Chapter 14 Friends

A/N: So.. you know what I said about a writing schedule? Fuck it. I'm bored. Here is chapter 14. :P

"I need you to tell me everything you know about what Will does." Rogers said as he sat across from Kassidy at his desk.

"I know that he has a job, and that is about it."

"You don't know what kind of job? Who he works for? He never mentioned anything?" Rogers asked.

"No. He kept it to himself. He doesn't like to talk about it." Kassidy said. "Why are you questioning me?" Kassidy asked.

"I'm just trying to figure out if this is a missing persons case or not." Rogers sighed. He knew it wasn't but Kassidy couldn't know that.

"Well. Detective, He's. MISSING. so. Yeah its a missing persons case." She replied.

"We don't know that. He leaves often. He could have just left again. You said it sounded like he said something about Danger when he spoke to you on the phone. Do you know anyone who would want to hurt him?" Rogers asked. Kassidy thought for a moment.

"When he was here.. last time. I woke up to him yelling at someone on his phone but I don't know who it was, I was half asleep and when he came back in he said he was just out for a smoke and then the next day he was gone." Kassidy said.

"Okay, what about you? Would anyone want to hurt you?"

Kassidy laughed.

"Well, there's Bobby, he owns the marketplace I steal from every now and then, Oh. and then.. Jim. I busted the window to his store. and you are a cop why am I telling you this?" Kassidy asked. Rogers pinched the bridge of his nose.

"This is serious Kass, If someone is trying to hurt Will, if they know that you and him have history they could come after you." He said.

"Aw you like me." She smiled.

"What?" He asked confused.

"Only people who like me call me Kass." Kassidy said.

"I tolerate you. Now focus!" He said and took her coffee away. "You've had entirely too much caffeine."

"Look, I don't know anything about the people Will works for. I don't think they'd be coming after me though. I'm.. not really that important." She said and shrugged.

"What makes you say that?" Rogers asked.

"I go around unnoticed often. So really, I think I'm good. I'm worried about Will." Kassidy said.

"I'm worried about You." Rogers said.

"Why?" Kassidy asked. Rogers sighed.

"Because Kassidy, I don't want you to get hurt, and if you mean something to Will, you mean something to whoever would want to hurt him."

"Do you know something you aren't telling me Detective?" Kassidy asked studying his expressions carefully.

"No. Kassidy, I don't." He said.

"Or you do, you just have a really good Poker face." Kassidy said.

"Cole.. you are giving me a migraine." He sighed.

"I'm good at that." Kassidy smiled.

"Look, Its late. Let me take you to Roni's. I do not want you out in the open until we figure this out."

"I'm fine Rogers." Kassidy said he was growing far to concerned with her well being for her taste. She stood up.

"I've got a place set up for me already."

"My car?" Rogers asked and crossed his arms.

"No."

"Then where? I'd like to know your whereabouts." Rogers said.

"Sorry, Detective. I don't give out that information. I don't like to be found." She smirked.

"Kassidy.." He sighed.

"I'm going to go. I will come by tomorrow and check on the case." She said and walked out of the office.

"Why don't you come stay with me?" He asked. Kassidy laughed.

"Uh. No." She said.

"Why not?" Rogers asked.

"Because, that sounds like a set up to a horrible sitcom..and No. I don't stay with people. I don't Stay, period." Kassidy said.

"It's supposed to start getting really cold this week."

"I've got it covered Detective. Don't worry about me." She smiled awkwardly and walked out of the station. He was persistent in trying to knock down those walls and if Kassidy didn't know any better she would have thought the Detective was catching feelings. She shook the thought out of her head and sighed looking over her shoulder at the station before walking on.

A couple weeks later.

Rogers woke up late that night, something had compelled him to wake up. He sat up in bed and looked out his window that was covered in frost. It was starting to snow. He glanced down and could see that he had left his car window down a little.

"Shit." He sighed and threw on a shirt and his sleep pants and walked out of his bedroom putting on his shoes, grabbing his keys and unlocking the door before stepping outside and instantly shivering he hurried to his car and opened the door to roll his window up noticing that Kassidy was curled up in his passengers seat sleeping, and shivering. She was in a pair of shorts and had her jacket draped over her. That was not going to work. He nudged her

"Kass." He whispered. she blinked her eyes open and bolted up.

"Hey its okay, its just me." Rogers said.

"I'm..sorry It started snowing and Roni's was closed." Kassidy said.

"Its okay, I'm not mad. Come on, its way to cold out here and you are in shorts. Come inside."

"No. It's okay." Kassidy said.

"It wasn't a request. You are not staying out here. Stop being stubborn and come inside."

"Detect-"

"Don't make me carry you. I will." He said. Kassidy sighed.

"Okay. Fine." She said and got out of the car. He rolled up his window and closed the car door locking it. Kassidy followed him inside. She looked around the small living room. It was homey.

"I have a spare bedroom, or you can sleep on the couch if that makes you more comfortable." Rogers said.

"I'll sleep on the couch." Kassidy said through chattering teeth.

"Honestly woman, Who wears shorts in this weather?" He asked

"I haven't gotten to wash my other clothes yet." Kassidy said.

"Well, give them here, I'll throw them in the wash now."

"No.. it's okay." Kassidy said. Rogers gave her a look and held his hand out. She sighed and handed him her backpack he was clearly not in the mood to argue. Rogers started her clothes in the washer and walked into his room for a moment and came back out with a long sleeve shirt and a pair of sweatpants.

"These are probably way too big for your tiny self, but it will be warmer than what you have. Bathroom is right there if you want to change. I'll get the couch ready." He said and handed her the clothes. Kassidy walked into his bathroom and peeled off her clothes She pulled on the gray sweat pants and pulled the draw string as tight as it would go to keep them up and rolled the pant legs up just a little since they were way too long, but that was because she was 5'2" wearing clothes that belonged to someone who had to be nearly 6 feet tall. She pulled the long sleeve shirt over her head and smirked at the Words "Seattle Police" that fell across her chest. She walked back out into the living room where Rogers was adjusting a pillow he turned around and scratched the spot behind his ear smiling at her.

"What?" She asked.

"I've never seen you in any color besides black" He laughed.

"Says the man who wears nothing but black." Kassidy said and raised an eyebrow. "And.. blue." She said looking at his blue plaid sleep pants. He smirked.

"Never thought I'd be roomates with a cop for the night." Kassidy laughed.

"Yeah? Well I never thought I'd let Kassidy Cole sleep on my couch. But there are first times for everything." He said.

"Yeah." Kassidy said and bit her lip. There was an awkward silence between the two of them.

"So.. sleep well." Rogers said and fidgeted with his hands nervously.

"Will do." Kassidy said and walked towards the couch as he was going to walk past her he bumped her shoulder and steadied her.

"Sorry." He said gripping her shoulders.

"Its..o..okay." Kassidy said feeling her heart race a little as their eyes met.

Okay heart, what the fuck? She thought

"Uh.. You can let go of me now." She said.

"Right." He said and let go of her shoulders. "Uh don't take my stuff?" He asked.

"Don't worry Detective, I don't steal from my friends." She said Rogers smiled and walked down the hall.

Friends. It's a start.
