Chapter 39
Chapter 39
After Recovery Girl smacked Katsuki out of the infirmary, she ran a few more tests on Izuku before deeming him alright for the time being. She then walked over to her desk, opened a drawer, and grabbed something that the greenette couldn't see.
"You must carry this with you at all times," she said, handing it to him. When he saw what it was, he furrowed his brows.
"An EpiPen? But I'm not allergic to anything, at least not that I know of," Izuku pointed out, confused.
"It's a quirk tranquilizer. It works the same way as the EpiPen, but this is for when your quirk gets out of control," Chiyo explained, motioning toward Aizawa. "He can't be with you everywhere you go, so you'll need to have someone be with you when he can't. Fortunately, we all know who's going to do that even without being told."
"Thank God," Aizawa groaned in relief making Izuku chuckle.
"Thanks, I'll make sure to keep it safe," he reassured before pocketing it. Recovery Girl continued explaining to him the proper way to use it, and making sure he listened to every single word she said. After checking him over one more time, she took a deep breath in and nodded once.
"You are okay to go. Take this day to catch up with school, and tomorrow you can be back to take your lessons. For obvious reasons, you shall not participate in any hero training. Only academics."
Izuku would be lying if he said he wasn't bummed out. He had been out of commission for a month, basically. So knowing that he still won't be able to use his quirk made him sad. Even so, his right arm still needed some healing since it was still in a cast, so even if his quirk was under control, he still wouldn't have been able to train.
"Get moving, problem child. I'll take you to the dorms. Your hot head should be getting out of class soon," Aizawa commented, making Izuku flush lightly. It felt weird hearing his teacher say 'your hothead' as if Katsuki was his. He might be his boyfriend, but in no way did he own him. Although the thought of it made him feel giddy inside.
God, I sound so possessive.
Shaking his thoughts away, he followed Aizawa's instructions and headed outside the infirmary. With each step he took he could feel the slight throbbing on his side, but thankfully it didn't hurt as much as it used to. The cast on his right arm made his arm feel itchy and sweaty, and he couldn't wait to take it off. Chiyo had told him that it would take at least three more days before she could remove it.
It was safe to say that he could not wait for that day to finally arrive.
The small journey to the dorms turned out quite uneventful. It was as though it was a regular school day and he wasn't in a very stressful situation. It made him feel nostalgic. Sure, it had only been a little over three weeks, but his life has been such a mess for so long. What had happened in such a short amount of time only made his life more disastrous.
It was at times like this that his mind wandered to dangerous places.
The dorm building came to view, and Izuku couldn't help the small smile that graced his features. He had missed the place and all of his classmates, even more so than he had thought. The building might have some dark memories, but it also had good ones.
"Your classmates should be getting here in a few minutes, once they're here I'll be going to get a good nap," Aizawa commented with a yawn once they entered Height Alliance. Izuku chuckled at that and nodded his head, looking at his teacher.
"I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused you," the greenette bowed.
"You've been a problem child from the beginning. I took responsibility ever since," Aizawa said. "There's is somehow that had been nagging me to see you."
Izuku furrowed his brows in question, tilting his head to the side. Who could have wanted to see him at that moment? He was sure that his classmates all visited him during his stay at the hospital.
"Izu-chan!!" A slightly high-pitched voice exclaimed, a small figure racing out of the kitchen.
"Eri-san?!" Izuku beamed, catching the little girl in his good arm when she pounced on him. The action caused him to wince, but he hid the expression to not worry the child.
"I've missed you so much! Dad-zawa wouldn't let me see you!" She pouted, eyes mastering their best puppy dog look. Izuku found it amusing how the little girl called the raven-haired male, even more so when said male grunted in response.
"Eri, I've told you many times not to call me that," Aizawa sighed.
"I missed you too!" Izuku smiled, completely ignoring Aizawa. "How have you been?"
"I learned how to count to twenty thanks to Dad-zawa!
"Eri—"
"That's awesome! Show me,"
"One, two, three..." Eri counted excitedly, lifting a finger with each number. When she reached eleven, however, she seemed conflicted.
"What's wrong?" Izuku asked, concerned.
"I only have ten fingers!" She whined with teary eyes. "It's hard to count to twenty without more fingers!"
Izuku laughed at the child's distress, making her pout. "How about when you reach ten, you start counting with your first finger again! Like this, look," he proceeded to grab her hands and ball them into fists again, lifting her pointer finger up. "Now you can start from eleven!"
The little girl gasped excitedly, resuming her counting until reaching twenty. "I did it!"
"You did!" Izuku cheered, the action causing pain to shoot from his side. An involuntary groan escaped his lips, making little Eri look at him worriedly.
"Come on Eri, he still needs to rest," Aizawa sighed, taking the girl from Izuku's arm and putting her down.
"I'm so sorry Izu-chan!" She apologized quickly, making Izuku chuckle and ruffle her hair gently.
"Don't worry, it's just a little pain. It'll go away soon," the greenette said to ease her worries. In all honesty, he really hoped it went away soon. But as the throbbing intensified, he knew that it wasn't going to happen just yet.
The doors to the dorm building opened and chatter filled the entry area. The three of them turned around to be greeted by the smiling faces of his classmates upon seeing the freckled boy. Gasps and cheers erupted among them as some of them charged forward, stopping in front of Izuku excitedly.
"Deku-kun!" Uraraka exclaimed, engulfing him in a big, but gentle hug.
"It's so good to have you back!" Mina said, ruffling his hair. "Our blasty boy was blastier than usual today."
"Who the fuck are you calling blasty boy, Racoon Eyes?!"
"Language! There is a child among us, Bakugo. Behave yourself!"
"I don't fucking care, four eyes!"
"Is blastier even a word?" Izuku wondered, completely ignoring his boyfriend and robotic friend.
"Oi! Don't ignore me!"
"I have no idea, but it is now," Mina chuckled, turning to pull Katsuki's ear with a scowl. "Don't make me melt off that mouth of yours, Blasty. Say one more bad word in front of the little angel, and I will go through with my word."
Katsuki glared at the pinkette, slapping her hand away and huffing. Eri and Izuku giggled, making the blond roll his eyes and Mina give a satisfactory grin. Aizawa grumbled something under his breath, before taking Eri's hand and making his way out of the building. The little girl waved enthusiastically at the group of students, earning equally excited waves back.
"Midobro! We've missed you, man!" Kirishima said with his big, toothy grin.
"Are you hungry? I can make some cold soba," Todoroki offered.
"I bet if I used my quirk I could listen to his stomach grumbling," Jiro joked, making the other's laugh.
As if on cue, Izuku's stomach started grumbling loudly. His cheeks tinted red from embarrassment, hugging his torso with his good arm while the others laughed.
"Guess I don't need to use my quirk after all," Jiro mused, chuckling.
"I make some really good cold soba," Todoroki offered again.
"Shut it, Icy Hot. I'm the one that's going to feed the nerd. None of you can cook as good as me," Katsuki smirked, crossing his arms in front of his chest arrogantly.
"Geez, Bakugo. Turn the superiority complex down a notch," Denki groaned.
"Ha! You're just jealous that I'm good at everything and you're not," Katsuki commented, being his usual prideful self.
Their classmates started groaning and rolling their eyes at the blond. Izuku snickered, ready to burst his egotistical bubble. "Kacchan, you can't swim."
Everyone stopped their whining to look at the greenette. Silence fell upon them, shock evidence on their faces as they then moved their gaze towards Katsuki. They all moved in synchronization, shifting their gazes between the two. Katsuki was frozen on the spot, shoulders tense and body rigid.
The silence became very unsettling, especially to Izuku.
Even more so when the blond that had his back against him slowly turned around to face him.
Uh oh...
"Oi Izuku, do you want to die?" Katsuki asked menacingly, his eyes glinting dangerously as he stared down at his boyfriend. Izuku's eyes widened as he cowered under Katsuki's glare, one word replaying urgently in his mind.
Run!
"Save yourself!" Kirishima shouted, activating his hardening quirk and wrapping his arms around Katsuki to hold him back. The blond lifted an arm and set off an explosion in Kirishima's face, and the greenette took the opportunity to dash away.
His side still throbbed, but that didn't stop him from running at full speed. He could faintly hear Iida scolding Katsuki for using his quirk and then yelling after him for running. A loud laugh left his lips as he felt the rush of adrenaline course through his veins. It had been a while since he felt such way. It was thrilling.
"Get back here!" He heard Katsuki shout as he ran up the stairs to his room. His almost-healed wound burned while he quickly unlocked the door, rushing inside and closing it shut behind him. His body tingled, goosebumps lining his skin and making the hairs in his arms stand. His heart pounded against his chest, and his body suddenly started feeling light.
Was he that excited?
"You can run, but you cannot hide~" Katsuki's voice sang through his bedroom door in a raspy way. Izuku's eyes widened as he turned to look at the door, but something felt weird. Why did he feel weird?
Izuku looked down at the floor, and a gasp left his mouth. He reached into his pocket in alarm as the doorknob rattled. Katsuki barged into the bedroom with a victorious smirk, but his brows furrowed when the greenette wasn't in sight.
"Oi nerd, where the fuck are you?!" He huffed, closing the door and looking towards the half-bathroom. The door was wide open, indicating that Izuku was not inside. His confusion grew as he whipped his head around in search of the greenette. Where the hell could he be?!
A rattling sound caught his attention, and he immediately looked at the ground where the noise came from. He stepped toward the object and picked it up, furrowed his brows when he saw what it was. An EpiPen?
"Are you fucking invisible or something? Stop hiding," Katsuki said, standing up and looking around once more.
"I-Im not hiding," he heard Izuku whisper, and his head shot upwards.
"What the fuck?!" Katsuki exclaimed in shock, staring wide-eyed at the floating boy. Izuku looked equally as shocked as the blond, arm and legs flailing around as if to stay upright.
"I-I don't know! The wound s-started kinda burning a-and then I felt light. When I looked down I was already floating!" Izuku rushed out, his breathing picking up in panic.
Katsuki's mind whirred with millions of questions, but only one answer seemed to be the most logical one.
"Izuku...what were the antidotes' second effects?" Katsuki asked as if trying to connect the dots.
"W-Well, it can cause seizures and my quirk will go haywire from time to time...why? Do you think it had anything to do with this?"
Katsuki's eyes widened in realization, finally making sense of the situation. "Izu...the antidote is meant to reverse the effects of the quirk-canceling bullet. But what if...not only it reverses it, but it makes your dormant quirks manifest faster than they should?! Holy shit, Izuku! It makes sense!"
"What?!" Izuku screeched in disbelief.
"Think about it! Your next quirk was supposed to be Float, but it wasn't supposed to show just yet. Gah! I don't know. We need to talk to Recovery Girl and fast," Katsuki rushed out. "Now how the fuck do we get you down here?"
Izuku was currently doing a somersault mid-air, trying to get back upright. "I-I don't know. I can try to go over my bed, and you could probably pull me down from there?"
"Okay, but how do we make you stop floating?" Katsuki pondered, moving already to climb Izuku's bed.
"The EpiPen! It's supposed to be a quirk tranquilizer, but when I tried to use it, it fell to the ground."
"So that's what it is," Katsuki mumbled under his breath, reaching down to grab the object and stand upright on the bed. "Okay, now push against the wall to float over to me."
Izuku nodded and did his best to align his feet against the wall, and once he did, he pushed himself towards his bed. He yelped when the motion caused him to make another somersault, but Katsuki managed to take hold of his leg and stop him. The blond pulled the greenette down, and Izuku held his arm firmly to steady himself.
"Try to stay calm and steady so that I can do this correctly," Katsuki said, positioning them down on the bed so he could take a hold of Izuku's thigh. The greenette took a deep breath in and Katsuki placed the orange tip on top of his right thigh after taking the safety cap off.
Without a warning, Katsuki jammed the needle into his thigh, causing him to yelp in surprise at the sudden sting. His body slumped down on the mattress after Katsuki retracted the EpiPen, and he let out a groan.
"I still hate needles," Izuku commented, making Katsuki chuckle.
"At least you didn't faint this time," Katsuki retorted, making Izuku hum.
"I think not being able to see the actual needle helps," Izuki said, suddenly feeling tired. Katsuki hummed, putting aside the EpiPen. "We should inform Aizawa and Recovery Girl."
"That we should," the blond said, a smirk forming on his lips. "But first..."
"Huh?" Izuku asked, tilting his head to look at Katsuki. His body tensed the moment they locked eyes, a malicious aura surrounding the blond. "K-Kacchan?"
His nervous state made Katsuki's smirk broaden, shifting his body to hover over the greenette. Izuku audibly gulped, gnawing on his bottom lip as he pressed his body further into the mattress. His heart rate picked up, goosebumps lining his arms at Katsuki's sudden proximity.
"You are so going to pay for what you fucking said earlier," Katsuki grumbled, getting closer to Izuku's face. The greenette flushed as he remembered what he had done earlier.
From the look Katsuki gave him, he didn't know if to be scared or excited.
