Neglected
The therapist came to visit Adrien and see how he was feeling. So far he doesn't look like he's having panic attacks but there was something on his face that doesn't seem like he's almost feeling better.
"So is there more you want to tell me?" The therapist asked.
"No one is gonna believe me, not even you," Adrien said.
"Okay, just put it more simply," The therapist said.
"I just....just can't help but feel extra protective of those I love, especially my girlfriend in danger. Recently it was because of my classmate who lies a lot. I've since then regretted telling my girlfriend that she should take the high road but I was wrong. Lila turned out to be more dangerous than I thought" Adrien explained how he should've known better than to let bad people like liars get away with it.
"And how specifically dangerous is she?" The therapist asked.
"As in influencing everyone to easily believe her without checking their facts. Like a witch has bewitched everyone" Adrien gave an example.
"I see. A pathological liar" The Therapist wrote it down.
"Yup. I never had a life outside when I was a kid like everyone my age. I guess I didn't learn that there are bad in some people who choose to be bad than good" Adrien said.
"But now you are adapting more outside the mansion. But yes, there are bad people much worse than akumas, Adrien" The therapist said.
"Yes, like terrorists" Adrien replied.
"And Monarch is a terrorist too. But as I can see now, something is happening in this mansion because of your father. Has he done something that made you feel upset?" Therapist asked.
"Yeah....but the question is can a parent hire a bad teenager to spy on me and separate my friends away from me?" Adrien asked.
"That would be considered illegal," The therapist said.
"So my father is indeed doing something cruel than being overprotective with what I do outside the mansion?" Adrien asked.
"Yes but as the powerful man he is, it's not easy to press charges," The Therapist said.
"My girlfriend once told me that sometimes doing what's right is better than doing the wrong reason for the right reason kind of deal," Adrien said.
"And what is your right reason?" Therapist asked.
"Fighting for my freedom than letting my father tell me what to do just because he tells me he's my father and what's best for me. My mother would have wanted me to continue living on and be free to build my own happiness" Adrien said.
The therapist wrote it down, "This is definitely emotional abuse your father is doing. If he keeps up with that, I will have to call for Child Protection service. I know you're afraid because he's the only family here in Paris but are there any relatives to support you?" The therapist asked.
"My aunt and cousin in London," Adrien said.
"Are they nice?" Therapist asked.
"My aunt is the twin sister of my late mother. My cousin...." Adrien did not want to go through the details of his betrayal and the Diamond Dance incident, "He's the opposite of me"
"I see" The therapist replied.
"They did want to permanently move to Paris to honor my mother but my father refused, sending them back to London. Man, it's like my frustration is believing that my father only wants perfection for himself" Adrien slumps on his bed.
"Hmm....I'm gonna need to talk to Nathalie about this. You keep on living your dream, Adrien. The dream you're building, that's your own vision of happiness. Whatever your father tells you to do is only his own vision of happiness instead of yours. Every happiness relies on one person" The therapist explained that the happiness Gabriel is doing is not the same happiness that Adrien wants.
"Thank you," Adrien said.
"If it gets worse, Child Protection Service will have to inform your relative to have you as child custody contract," Therapist said.
"Very well" Adrien nodded.
"And the judge court to decide too. I'll see you again. Just please don't let your father pressure you" The therapist knows that Gabriel is very hard to please because he doesn't make a nice impression towards anyone.
"You got it," Adrien said.
The therapist heads to Nathalie's room to inform her of the news, "Well, it turns out he's suffering from a lot of pressure" He said to her.
"He is because his father has never been the same since his wife went missing or presumed dead. I tried everything I could to help Gabriel move on but he always says that his wife will never get replaced. I promised Emilie to look after Adrien if anything happened to her" Nathalie said.
"And has Gabriel ever gotten out of the house and tried to take his mind off of things? Isolation in this mansion is very unhealthy for his mental state" Therapist said.
"Barely at all," Nathalie said.
"He can't live in the past forever. He's already missing out on his son's life. I've seen one single parent busy with work a lot and they miss out on playing with their children. Children grow up too fast and if a parent already thinks about playing with them, it will be too late until a child stops playing and moves on to growing up" The Therapist explained the consequences of a parent missing out on their child's life.
"Yes, he just needs to accept that Adrien won't be around him forever," Nathalie said.
"And that's what worries me, Miss Sancoeur," Therapist said, unaware that Gabriel was listening behind the door, "Your boss is missing out on his son's life. Every child needs their parents' attention. Parents have special years with their children when they're the ones that want them around. They make time then and there, not later. They get one chance as a parent. Adrien has minimum of years until he's finally an adult. He won't be a kid forever" The therapist said.
"Yes. Only six more years" Nathalie said.
Gabriel thinks this therapist is putting bad influence on his son but Nathalie is only saving Adrien from his isolation and neglect. So he snuck away.
"And this is what really worries me. Adrien said something about this girl who is a pathological liar. He believes that his father assigned her to spy on him. Is there something you know about this?" Therapist asked.
"I can't say but Gabriel thinks Adrien needs a real true friend that doesn't influence him but Adrien is very uncomfortable around her in modeling because of her pathological lies. Honestly, Gabriel just doesn't understand Adrien's interests, his personal space, his passion, everything" Nathalie said.
"Hmm....that would trigger an illegal crime. Adrien did mention that Lila was being assigned to spy on him. Tell me the truth" The Therapist wants the truth or he will inform the court.
"Very well then" Nathalie agreed to tell everything. Minus the secrets of Gabriel's past and his terrorism of akumatizing victims.
"Well, it's obvious that this is child abuse. If Gabriel doesn't get his act together, the court will have to place a relative to take child custody. One more strike and it's over" Therapist said.
"You got it," Nathalie said.
"So far Adrien said that you approve of him. That means you're protecting his happiness from his father's control" Therapist said.
"That's right," Nathalie said.
"Please do. He's still a kid you know. He may not be able to go against a parent but he is fighting for his freedom. Now I must go. I have another appointment with someone" The Therapist takes his leave.
"Thank you," Nathalie said.
On the way downstairs, he was startled by Gabriel's cold glare, "Can I help you?" Therapist asked.
"What did you tell her?" Gabriel asked.
"It was simply questions about her and your son. Honestly, from what I see, your son is feeling miserable and neglected by you. I'm a therapist and my job is to ensure your son gets better" Therapist said.
"Nonsense! My son is fine and you're putting more bad influence on him!" Gabriel accused.
"Watch your words, Mr. Agreste! You can do nothing about it!" The Therapist warned, "Your son is becoming miserable because of your lack of care! Pretty soon you will lose custody of him if you don't learn to be faithful to him or let him live his life as himself. Your behavior is cruel and unacceptable!" Therapist yelled at his cruel attitude that if he goes this far again, he would have to remove Adrien from his father and let someone else take care of him.
"How dare you?!" Gabriel got mad.
"No, how dare you try to get in your son's way when he's just a kid. This is called child abuse. You're ruining his happiness, his life, and his soul. I'm not a bad influence here, it's you. You are the one putting bad influence by controlling him too far" The Therapist takes his leave, unaware that this was just Gabriel's plan to get him upset so he can akumatize him.
"Don't even think about it!" Nathalie carefully comes down the steps, knowing what Gabriel is planning, "He warned me if you do one more strike of abuse, he will have the court take your son away and have someone else to take care of him"
"Nobody takes Adrien from me," Gabriel said.
"You're insane!" Nathalie shouted.
"I don't belong to a cruel father" Adrien was standing upstairs with a cold glare, "I hope the court decides whether you're a good or bad parent, Gabriel Agreste" Adrien refused to call him father anymore.
Gabriel was in shock that his son overheard everything he said.
"Tell me the truth! Are you really gonna go this far because I'm not a perfect son to you? Or do you like abusing me because it makes you happy?" Adrien accuses his father's actions, shaking his head in disbelief that this is not his father anymore.
Nathalie knew this would happen to Adrien and he's hurting inside that he lost his mother and now he already lost trust in his father, making him feel like he's emotionally an orphan.
"You're being overly dramatic, Adrien" Gabriel said.
"I'm being overly dramatic? Let's recap, you always see everyone as a bad influence towards me but unexpectedly you hire Lila Rossi without noticing she's a pathological liar and the master of deception. Another recap, every time I try to spend time with my friends, you always pull me out which makes me feel like I got embarrassed by my father who doesn't put complete trust in me because all you care about is your brand company instead of being a real good parent you're supposed to be. Do I look overly dramatic?" Adrien glared at his father, knowing how stubborn he was to not see the outcome.
"Of course not, son!" Gabriel replied.
"I really wish you weren't my father!" Adrien said coldly.
"Take that back!" Gabriel roared.
"No, I won't take it back. You can say you're my father all you want but technically I already lost my mother and now I lost my father too who abandoned me a long time ago!" Adrien shouted and went into his room to be by himself, sobbing in anger that he feels lost without a parent to care for him anymore.
"My poor Kitten," Plagg said in deep sadness.
"Why can't I ever have a supportive parent like everyone else? I hate being the wealthiest boy in the family" Adrien sobs.
"I wish I could do something," Plagg said.
"I need my princess. Cat Noir barely had time to visit. Plagg, claws out!" He transformed and jumped out the window. He rushed in tears to Marinette's apartment.
-
In her room, Marinette was lying on her loft bed thinking about Adrien. His behavior was like he was trying to fight for his freedom but his father would always force him to be obedient. She heard a tap on her trapdoor, noticing her kitty looking desperate for attention.
"Cat Noir? What's the matter?" She saw tears on his cheeks.
"I rather not talk about, princess. I just need comfort" He nuzzled in her neck for attention.
"The cataclysm trauma came back again?" Marinette played with his hair.
"No, just neglected issues I rather not say" Cat Noir purred in so much pain and sadness.
"Oh Kitty" Marinette hugs him.
"Meow" He meowed quietly and licked her neck affectionately.
"I'm here Noir, I'm here," She said smoothly.
"Puuuuuurrrrrrrr" He purred.
Marinette kissed his cheek to calm him, "My poor kitty"
"You're the kindest girl I know, Princess" Cat Noir said.
"You feel calm?" Marinette scratched his chin.
"Yeah, thanks to you," Cat Noir said.
"I was gonna have a glass of milk but I think you should have it. Cats drink milk" Marinette hands it to him.
"Thank you" Cat Noir accepted it and drank it.
"I also came by because your prince told me what happened. I had to be sure you were okay. I was a scaredy cat to think you would die. Monarch has gone way too far to try and erase victims born from their birth year as in skipping a year where no one was born in the year nor that year ever existed" Cat Noir said.
"But you and Ladybug outsmarted him, didn't you? I saw from my hiding place" Marinette said.
"I know but I would have no idea what I do if the Akuma did succeed in erasing everyone from my birth year. It would be like 2001 never existed" Cat Noir hugged her.
"And neither you would be around," Marinette said.
"I'm nothing without my only princess" Cat Noir slowly licks her neck affectionately.
Marinette moans a little from his licks, "Kitty, you know you're still my knight. A knight's job is not about protecting his princess but to ensure her future to be queen" Marinette said.
"Ah, yes. So your prince can be your King" Cat Noir said.
"Yeah. My parents may be king and queen of the bakery and they would love to see me marry my prince. You do love fairytale happy endings with your lady" Marinette chuckled.
"Yeah. Hopefully, someday my girlfriend will become my feline queen soon until my dad understands my own future instead of his. He already had his future with my mom before me, now it's my turn" Cat Noir licks her neck again.
"Yeah, I hope you'll succeed," Marinette said.
"I wish your king and queen had a pet cat like me. Every princess always has an animal sidekick" Cat Noir said.
"You're my animal sidekick," Marinette said.
"And adorable like a kitty" Cat Noir nudged her hand to be petted.
"Oh yes," Marinette petted him.
"I'm so lonely without a princess" Cat Noir nuzzled her hand.
"I understand Kitty," Marinette said and leaned in to kiss but hesitated due to being with Adrien.
"Thank you for cheering me up, my princess. Now I must go. I hate to be back as a house cat again but I'm still young like a kitten" Cat Noir said.
"You're welcome, Cat Noir," Marinette said before he left.
