"patient who came with cat 'haechan'?" a lady asked making mark raise his head instantly.
"hum... yeah?" he stood up nervously.
"follow me please." she said with a smile, getting out of the clinic.
this confused mark a bit, but he brushed the thought off. the clinic was pretty full for a week night. thankfully, haechan had been taken in charge instantly, but mark had seen people waiting way longer than him. some woman had came with her hamster before him, and she was still waiting when haechan had already been healed. well actually, mark hoped he had been healed.
mark furrowed his brows when the girl opened a door at the back of the clinic, not attached to the rest of the building. he entered with her and saw his cat sleeping in a cage, bandages around his tiny body.
"how is he?" mark asked nervously.
"he is okay. nothing too serious." the girl nodded. mark thought she seemed rather young to be a veterinarian. "he only had a deep cut on his stomach which i bandaged. you told me he cut himself with a glass?"
mark rubbed his nape. "yeah... you know, a burette? we use them in chemistry. but a huge one. i wasn't there. but he made it fall and he broke it." mark explained.
"that's why he also has cuts on his paws and head. but don't worry. your cat is fine." the girl reassured mark.
"thank you very much for healing him." mark bowed at the girl. "do i need to pay at the reception or here?" he asked, taking his wallet out and attempting to pull his credit card out, but the girl prevented him to do so.
"oh, no! you don't need to pay."
mark raised a brow. "i don't?"
"you don't. it was an accident."
"but... veterinarians are usually pretty expensive... how come you're asking me not to pay?"
the girl thought for a second. "let's say i'll always be here for haechan."
"you're strange." mark said.
"i don't want money. that's all. i just... want to help animals. i want them to be safe. as long as they're safe, i'm happy. and i don't need your money to be happy. so, you can keep it."
mark didn't seem convinced.
"my name is elizabeth." she said, pulling out from nowhere a black card on which was written 'ELIZABETH' in glittery letters.
mark picked the card and looked at it perplexed, searching for further information, but there were none.
"i really don't want you to pay."
mark put his wallet back in his pocket. "are you sure?"
"yes, i am." the girl nodded. "but, there's something else i want from you."
mark tensed.
"you'll have to take care of haechan. you'll need to change his bandages sometimes, and clean his bruises. oh, and don't forget to check if they cicatrize well." elizabeth listed, making mark sigh in relief.
"of course, i'll take care of him."
"great." she turned around, opening a fridge that mark hadn't even noticed to take out of it a bottle of milk. "the best drink for him to get better is milk. okay?"
mark's smiled disappeared. milk was his favourite drink. he didn't want to share his milk with this cat that had suddenly appeared in his life and stolen all the attention!
"he needs to drink a lot of milk."
mark reluctantly nodded.
"great, then, i might let you go with haechan. take care of him, and never forget that i'll always be there for him." she said, opening the cage and carefully carrying the cat to put it in mark's arms. she then put the creams, bandages and bottles of milk in a plastic bag that she handed to mark.
"thank you so much. i don't know what i would have done without you..." mark told truthfully.
the girl smiled. "it's nothing. take care of him for me."
mark nodded before smiling one last time and leaving towards his car.
"oh, and, mark!" elizabeth spoke again, making mark turn around. "when you'll need to change his bandages, you'll need space! remember, the bigger the body, the easier it is!"
mark smiled with brows furrowed, not even questioning the fact that the girl knew his name.
that girl was definitely crazy. but she had saved haechan, and she hadn't made mark pay, so maybe, she had been a crazy angel sent from the sky.
mark should be thankful to have met someone like her.

once mark reached his house, he carried the sleeping cat to its basket, being very careful not to hurt it.
to keep an eye on it, mark decided to put the basket inside the living room while he cleaned all the mess inside the kitchen, so that he could see if the cat woke up. mark put the basket with the sleeping cat against the couch, shutting the bright lights to let the animal rest, and then, he grabbed a broom and swept the glass pieces away.
after a few minutes, the floor of his kitchen was clean again, and, glancing at the cat, he decided to call his best friend to tell him the bad news.
renjun picked up his phone after two ringtones.
"hey mark, it's unusual for you to call." renjun laughed.
"yeah, sorry." mark rubbed his nape. "i have kinda bad news..."
renjun raised a brow before speaking a few words in chinese to someone next to him and then talking back to mark. "what is it? is it about haechan? are you okay?"
"it is about haechan." mark told. "he got injured tonight. he broke the chemistry burette mr kim had lent me for the project and he cut himself." mark explained.
"oh, god!"
"i brought him to the veterinarian, don't worry. she healed him well. he's fine now. she explained to me how to change his bandages and check-up if his wounds were cicatrizing."
renjun sighed in relief. "is he okay now?"
"i hope so. he is sleeping." mark said, eyes glued on the white hairball sleeping in its basket.
"thank you for taking care of him, mark." renjun smiled.
"it's normal. it's your cat after all."
"you know, it's yours as well, mark."
mark shrugged. "not really."
mark didn't really like animals, and cats were animals. the day renjun had brought haechan home wasn't the best day of his life. let's say haechan wasn't the most welcomed in mark's cocoon...
"anyway... i'll let him sleep in my room tonight exceptionally." mark said. "i know that's what you want. i accept to put aside my hate for those creatures for one night."
"you're the best mark!"
"i know." mark smiled. "see you soon junnie. love you."
"love you."
mark looked at the peaceful cat before carefully carrying the basket to his bedroom. what wouldn't he do for his best friend...?
