Chapter 33: A new challenge
I woke up with his kisses and caresses. He was my favorite clingy. I caressed his chest and buried my nose in his neck, delighting in his delicious skin aroma and, of course, the scent of a night of passion. We had made love slowly and passionately until the wee hours. I was still exhausted, but he seemed fresh. I didn't care. I wanted to satisfy him. I tried to memorize that delicious sensation of having him, his scent, the weight of his body, the taste of his skin. It was too special.
He pressed me against his body tightly, stealing my breath as I smiled happily at life.
"What a night..." he murmured. "I never thought it was like this..."
I laughed a little against his neck.
"And what did you think it was like?" I kissed his skin. "How did you think kids appeared?"
He chuckled and thought for a few seconds.
"I never really stopped to think about it... I just thought they appeared somehow. Maybe because of some kind of contact with your partner or something." He shrugged. "Homework and our society kept us distracted with other things in mind... you know..."
"Um... yeah, I guess."
I kissed his neck and moved up to his jawline. His beard was barely grown. I liked it. I ran the tip of my tongue over his ear, making him wince.
"If you continue like this, you know what you'll get," he muttered in a rather tempting low tone.
I chuckled again. It was starting to get late, and although the idea of continuing with him appealed to me, I had to get going. He gave me a soft kiss on the lips, making me leave my thoughts.
"I am comforted knowing I'll see you later," I whispered, "and I'll do whatever I want to you..."
He smiled, and I got out of bed reluctantly, having to leave him.

I turned on the shower and felt the water. It was already warm. I partially opened the door, and he turned to see me. He had picked up the pair of clothes we had thrown away last night. My eyes roamed him up and down, and he smiled, arching an eyebrow.
"Will you come for a moment?" I asked him, and immediately he came to me with a sweet smile. I took his hand and made him get in. "Take a shower with me again," I whispered as I pulled him and wrapped my arms around his neck to kiss him.
The water covered us both. I ran my hands over his skin as he did the same. Maybe I was acting like a hopeless romantic, but I didn't care. Nothing was more delicious than his fresh, smooth skin under the water. I felt heaven as he massaged my body with the soft soapy sponge, and my hands went up from his pectorals to his shoulders. I reveled in those marked muscles he had.
I closed my eyes while he was gently massaging my head with the shampoo. It was revitalizing, considering I felt exhausted and sore from having had one of the hottest nights of my life so far, counting the previous one. I clung to his narrow waist and pressed my body to his, laying my face on his chest with my eyes closed as he continued his relaxing massage.
"You're exhausted," he commented.
"No... well... a little bit," I replied, without abandoning my position.
He took my chin and leaned in to kiss me.
"Sorry. I'll let you sleep..."
I shook my head, pouting.
"I want to make love to you," I claimed in a slightly childish way.
He chuckled beautifully and hugged me tightly.
"We'll see," he replied sweetly. After a few seconds, he separated me from him, gently taking me by the shoulders. "Now to rinse yourself. You'll be late..."
"Oh yeah..."
We rinsed off quickly. I felt revitalized. We got out of the shower, and he wrapped my towel around me, making me smile again.
After dressing up faster than me, he pulled on the navy-blue shirt in one quick movement and stared at me intently as I fastened my bra. I smiled and rested the blouse on my shoulder to go closer. I started buttoning his shirt, smiling at the thought of the sweet wife image I had just given. He took the blouse and helped me put it on.
"We must be the corniest couple that can exist," I giggled.
"Corniest?" he asked amusedly, arching an eyebrow. "What's that?"
"We are very affectionate with each other... but I love it. I never thought I would behave like this."
He offered me another of his wide, dreamy smiles.
"I like that," he assured.
We repeated goodbye with a passionate kiss like every morning. I was never going to get tired of him or his refreshing way of being and showing me his love.
I went to the lab, and Marcus cut me off as I entered.
"Would you be so kind as to give me a sample of your EH's saliva?" he asked.
I raised my eyebrows in anger and amazement at the same time.
"But what are you saying?"
"I want to see its antiseptic and healing properties," he insisted. "Come on, please," he begged, making me sigh heavily.
"You can also ask him."
"Good, good," he lamented reluctantly. "I just wanted you to do it, lest he refuses or starts wanting to kill me for that."
I gave a little laugh and turned away from him to continue with what we had to do.
Around lunchtime, Julio came with a fearful face to tell us that a man was looking for Rosy and me. My blood ran cold. They had found us. I knew it. Now, what would we do? How fast they had been! I looked at Rosy and knew she was thinking the same thing as me by her expression. We left in the direction of the care room and walked slowly.
"What do you think they want?" Rosy asked with concern on her face.
"Maybe threaten us to say nothing or... I don't know."
There was also the possibility that they would take us out of here and lead us to silence for once. After all, they already knew well who we were and what we learned. I had not stopped to think about it, and now I felt panic begin to run through me.
Panic increased when I saw a man dressed in black and two men standing at his sides wearing helmets—typical of them. I was worried that those evolved men would detect the scent of the others in the training ground.
"Good morning, ladies," said the man when he saw us. We both nodded with a slight movement of the head. "Don't worry," he added. "I'm just here to deliver a message... it's from the government."
I was surprised. I noticed that the evolved guy was looking to the sides, and I felt a new drop in my blood pressure. Perhaps they had already detected Sirius's scent.
"What is it?" I mumbled, trying to hide my anguish.
The man took out a piece of paper and handed it to me. People and patients at the hospital passed by, looking at them curiously, especially the tall men in helmets, having no idea what they really were.
"The governor no longer needs you to investigate," he informed. I looked at the paper uncertainly as the man continued speaking, "So he orders you to retire and continue with your normal life, look for work elsewhere, and do not divulge anything about what you know."
"What?" Rosy said, almost exclaiming. "We don't even have anywhere to go; the Security guards destroyed our homes in the other city..."
"The government will make you a deposit," the man somewhat crudely replied. "He also ordered to warn you that if the matter continues or anything else comes to light on your part, you will be permanently silenced."
I swallowed hard. And now, what would we do? This couldn't stay that way. But again, I remembered what Marcus had said: we were nothing to the government and its evil things. It had all been my fault.
The man withdrew, and I saw one of the evolved men look to his side again. Sirius was in trouble too. No doubt that EH could talk about what he sniffed. They had him under control.
My friend looked at me with great concern, and Marcus came up to us.
"I told Max what happened just in case the man went over there now." He looked at us, concerned when he saw our faces. "What happened?"
I frowned and clenched my fists. They could take it out on me, but I had dragged Rosy into this myself, and now she was paying for it too. The worst thing was the possibility that they would kill us both. Anyway, nothing else needed to come to light since they could even eliminate us, causing an accident.
"Excuse me," I said in a weak voice.
I went to the back of the hospital to see through the windows. I had to make sure that everything was fine there in the field. Marcus and Rosy followed me as she explained what had happened.
I peeked in and saw Max's soldiers training like they usually did, and I felt a bit relieved. I immediately looked for my Sirius and soon spotted him. He was with Acrux, watching how the other two evolved fought.
I headed for the gate and out into the field, quickening my pace. Sirius turned to look at me when we were near the fence, and Max gave me a strange look, like a warning, so I stayed still. My eyes went to Sirius, but he didn't seem to have noticed. Maybe Max had not told them anything.
The four evolved men turned to look at the forest beyond the field, on the other side of the fence, and I got surprised to see that they immediately took off running. I looked out into the sparse forest and could see a deer. Oh, that was it. Sirius smoothly sped up and vaulted over the high fence, dropped in silence with a feline's grace, and ran towards the deer. The others followed him a few steps away, skipping over obstacles smoothly until they stayed still near the vegetation.
Wow, maybe they had not been as pent and deprived of the forest as I had thought. I smiled in relief. I loved seeing Sirius in hunting mode with that cold, fixed gaze on his target. He was to be feared, poor deer. They moved silently.
Max had run out of the field to come to us while the boys were distracted hunting. I could see how they were slowly dispersing, surrounding the deer. The animal raised its head and took off as well, fleeing for its life as the four predators launched after it.
"Hey!" Max exclaimed behind me, making me jump in shock.
"God! Don't scare me like that again. I'm not in the mood," I replied roughly.
"Calm down, I know," he said, raising his hands. "Marcus told me."
"We are in trouble..."
"Yes, but we'll fix it."
"No, you don't understand." My voice wanted to break. "The guy was with two coverts evolved men there. I'm sure one of them has noticed Sirius's presence. They can return... and also come here."
"Besides that, they want to kill us," Rosy added with some anguish.
Max sighed.
"I don't think so. That can be the last resort. Look..." he tried again to calm us down but was silent for a few seconds when he realized that the boys were already coming back. "I haven't told them anything yet, especially to your savage. I didn't want him to get into trouble."
I snorted. I already guessed, but it made sense. Sirius wouldn't have waited if he had found out what was happening at the hospital. I saw them approach. My young EH carried the deer on his back. I wondered if this was all going to end well and if, at some point, it would end.
So far, all we had done was get into more trouble, and I was now unemployed, pathetic. Although, honestly, they were just distracting us there. The one that worried me the most was Sirius. They would soon find him. I didn't want them to take him away.
He left the deer on the ground and approached me with a worried face. He must have noticed my expression. I didn't hold back and hugged him tightly, burying my face in his chest.
"What's going on?" he asked in a whisper as he stroked my hair. I shook my head quickly. I still wanted to feel the comfort and relief that his scent gave me. "What happened?" he asked again in an authoritative way, addressing those who were present.
"I'm afraid they're in trouble," Marcus muttered.
"They threatened us..." I finally answered against his chest.
He immediately tensed.
"Who?" he asked sternly in his voice. "The government?"
I turned my face to see Max and my two friends.
"Yes," Rosy replied before I could. "They came to see us. A guy in a suit with two evolved men with helmets..."
"What? Why didn't you warn me?" And by the look Marcus made, I was sure Sirius was glaring at him.
"I did," he excused, raising his hands and pleading innocence.
"Thank you, thank you," Max said, rolling his eyes, and Sirius glared at him too. "Listen," he tried to calm him down. "If I had told you, you would have gone to get in trouble, reveal your identity to people, and risk being killed right there."
"Don't talk nonsense," he replied, almost growling, "I could have finished them off."
"No," I interjected in a soft voice, looked up, and caressed his face. "People would also have run to warn security or the government itself."
"According to Marcus, you girls won't be able to stay in the hospital now," Max added. "So you'll stay here."
I turned to look at him.
"Huh?" Rosy exclaimed.
"No need," Marcus replied. "They can stay in the hospital."
"Forget about that," Max interrupted. "They will go back to look for them and Sirius as well. However, they would never suspect that they were here. They would expect them to go somewhere further afield."
Sirius didn't seem happy with what had happened. He sighed and accepted.
"Well... just for now. If necessary, I will talk to that governor and end all this. You can follow me if you want," he threatened.
I was distraught.
"What?" I clung to his shirt. "I won't let you do that."
He wrapped his hands around mine as he looked at me with concern.
"I will. They can't come to threaten you. Either they put aside their fearful attitude towards my society, or I will dedicate myself to divulging their things and disappearing them."
"No, no, no..." I gently shook my head in denial, fearful.
He was a bit saddened, and I noticed some anguish as well.
"It's the only way. How long will I have to stay hidden?" I knew it. He was getting tired of it. No please, do not get away from me. "They will not give up in their seek for a war. I cannot wait and less endure you being threatened as if they were the owners and lords of the planet." He contained the fury in his voice. "I don't allow them to come and threaten to take you from my side." He tightened his hands a little more on mine. "I don't allow it," he emphasized.
I didn't know this was going to infuriate him so much... No. I would be just as affected if it had been the other way around. And there was also Orion looking to kill him, and I could do nothing more than hide him here. I hugged him tightly. I didn't want him to be taken from me, either. That was my nightmare.
A female voice broke in. It was Tania. I had not seen her coming.
"There is only one extra room for Sirius when he decides to stay here," she said.
"Needless to say, they stay with me," he replied.
Rosy was glad.
"Thank you," she exclaimed excitedly and wrapped her arms around us.
Max rolled his eyes.
"Well, bring your things," he said as he left.
We had lunch there with them before going for our stuff. I realized the significant difference in the environment compared to the hospital. There was outrageous laughter, more food, and men making a fuss. The evolved blue-eyed brothers approached Sirius for a moment to show him something they had found on the cell phone and smiled. He was also impressed and commented on it.
I realized that he had integrated well into the place and into my world. He even conversed with some soldiers, who seemed used to seeing and talking to him. Maybe it was not so bad to stay here for a while.
Perhaps it was not so bad after all not having started the life I wanted with him, away from everything, because it was good to be surrounded by friends as well. I smiled for a moment, feeling better. He was sociable, more than me, and I loved to know more about him just by spending more time together.
"Sirius..." Max called him as he handed him a plate of food. "You already know..."
"I'll be back," he told me in a soft voice after sighing heavily.
After he left, I looked at Max for explanations.
"The girl," he said, responding to my gaze. "She doesn't admit that anyone but him to approach, so..." He shrugged.
My lips tightened. I guessed. Jealousy attacked me again for a few seconds, but I took a deep breath. Sirius was already mine. Besides, if I were captive in a place with only unknown evolved people, I would like to have someone familiar to me by my side. Still, I felt relaxed when I saw him come back and sit next to me.
***
I only set out to pack the basics for the night. We were nearby, after all, so a complete move was unnecessary. I wouldn't sleep in a place where my husband was not, although we wouldn't have privacy this time. Still, that didn't matter now. I was distraught over what he planned to do.
Max directed us to the room. We passed by where the evolved girl they had rescued was, and she stared at me for the fleeting moment it took me to cross through her door.
"We wanted to take her to her town today, but she refused, so we will insist tomorrow," Max commented.
"She says she's not feeling quite well yet," Sirius added.
We got to the empty room, and I tightened my lips a bit. Of course, there was only a desk and a narrow bed, and there was no space for another. Rosy glanced at me. I looked normal on my face and walked in. Sirius followed me to put the backpacks on the mattress and turned to look at me fondly.
"See you in a few hours," he murmured.
We spent the afternoon watching Max and Sirius planning something with Tania and the other evolved men.
In our room, he arrived somewhat exhausted and went into the shower. Rosy and I had already been there for a couple of hours, getting ready to sleep after trying to cheer each other up and playing a board game. No one had mentioned the fact that there was only one bed yet.
"Okay, let's speak," Rosy said, breaking the silence. "You are married. Everyone assumes you have sex even before you actually had it. Why don't you admit it and tell me what they are like in bed?" she added with fun.
I blushed and laughed.
"Well, since everyone knows, let's talk about you better. Maybe Acrux shows some interest in you, although I don't know if it's just friendship," I told her, making her smile widely.
"Do you think so?" she said excitedly.
"Yeah, but... keep in mind their rules. If you get involved with him, you'll have to explain how things work." I sighed. "Like, for example: if you kiss him or get more involved..." She smiled mischievously. "You should tell him that he's not the first one."
Her smile faded.
"Do you think that could affect him?"
I shrugged with some pity.
"I couldn't tell you. Every man is different, right?" I heard the shower turn off and lowered my voice until it was almost a whisper. "Sirius caught me by surprise when he asked me if I had kissed others, and I had to tell him, of course. That is not a question that is expected today, but they are EH. You can expect everything from them, seriously."
She bit her nails a bit.
"Huh," she exclaimed strangely and guiltily. "I should have played the nun and waited just like you."
"Oh wow!" I nodded in denial and smiled at her, trying to say everything would be fine. "You have done nothing wrong; you just have to know how to explain it. They have been raised differently."
Sirius came out of the shower bare-chested, tousled his damp hair a bit, and gave us a friendly smile. Jeez, I wanted to kiss him.
"I thought you were already sleeping."
We both glanced at each other.
"Uh... And you... Where will you sleep?" I asked.
He looked at me curiously as if I already knew the answer and my question had been out of place. Rosy jumped to her feet.
"Oh, don't worry, sleep together. I'll settle over there."
"Of course not..." he replied. "You both can use the bed. There's no problem."
Someone knocked on the door, surprising us. Sirius opened it; it was Acrux.
"Here you are, my death row inmates," he mocked in that deep voice characteristic of theirs and with a suggestive wry smile.
I tightened my lips as Sirius smiled with a frown. I had forgotten that dying was not a severe problem for them, as long as they didn't stain their honor or something. So, he had the liberty of joking.
"Max said this room was no bigger than the others, so I thought I could give my bed to someone," he continued as if nothing was wrong.
Tania appeared, peeking around Acrux's back. "The girls can sleep together, and Sirius can come with one of us," she suggested as if nothing were wrong.
But what?
Max showed up too. How many people were out there?
"Marien, if you like, come with me, so you guys have a bed each," he added.
Sirius suddenly growled at him taking a step forward, and the three of them backed away in fear. Rosy immediately walked over to where they were.
"Oh no, gentlemen. They are married, so they sleep together. I'll go with you," she suggested as she pushed them further.
My friend looked at me and winked before leaving. Sirius closed the door and sighed, closing his eyes.
