Colors
Earlier that afternoon, her parents pushed her outside before she got a chance to grab everything she needed. Having magical powers was one thing, but always being told to keep her glasses on was another. Usually, they're always quick to notice whether or not she has them on, but today they let it slide.
Amber was rushed out the door into a room full of people. The minute everyone's faces came into view, her sight changed. She started to see colors pulsing around each person's body. Some had red around them, others had green and then there were some with a clear view of white. Where did this come from? She never saw anything like this before.
Continuing to walk forward, she noticed the colors wouldn't disappear. In fact, they would get darker the closer she seemed to get to the person she was looking at. Eventually, her mother caught up to her. "How's it going, sweetie?"
"I'm not sure." She looked at her mother. "I'm seeing colors."
Her mother turned towards her daughter, finally realizing that the glasses she wore all her life were gone. She gasped. "Where's your glasses? You're supposed to keep those on!"
"I couldn't find them...and it was busy. What's wrong?"
"After seventeen years, you've finally noticed what we've been trying to hide."
"What do you mean?" Amber asked.
Her mother sighed. "Normally, even though we have powers, we can't see what powers other people have. But, you can."
Amber's eyebrows furrowed as she bit her lip. "Why is that so important?"
"Because...It will help you on your journey to defeat the one monster we've all been too afraid to go after."
