Maybelle 'Belle' Starr was born on February 5. Most of her family members called her May, her friends called her Belle. Her father, came from a well-to-do family, who cut him off after he moved out west and married his third wife, Eliza Hatfield, a distant relative to the Hatfields of the famous family feud. In order to survive, their family thrived by raising wheat, corn, hogs and horses. Belle loved tending to the horses, but she could go without the harvests. Thankfully she didn't have to invest too much time pulling weeds. Belle's father made sure she received a classical education and learned piano while graduating from Carthage Female Academy, a private institution that her father had helped to found. It was his way of raising a proper lady and to control her life. Little did he know, Belle had other plans.
