Wolf In Training
That next Saturday, Lils, Jinxy and I were sitting in the Commen Room, reading. We were all read 'Prince Caspian,' by C. S. Lewis.
"You'll be late for training!" Lils suddenly yelled at me, making me throw my book in the air. I scrambled o catch it. Once I did, I glared at her.
"You have your Woof training soon. Go change, and, don't forget your robe," Lils winked at me. I chuckled, put my book back in my bag and ran upstairs to change ( www.polyvore.com/cgi/set? id=106417409 ). I hopped down the stairs and waved to my friends before running to Dumbledore's office.
"Sherbert Lemon," I said, bouncing up and down. I waited as the Gargoyale slowly moved upwards. I got to the first step, when my excitement turned to anxiousness. What were we going to do? Will it hurt? I hope I don't get naked in front of Dumbledore again. I took every step carefully, as if the stairs would disappear if I went too quickly. Finally, I was at the top of the steps. I knocked on the door four times.
"Come in," Professor Dumbledore's calm voice said from the other side of the door. I pushed it open and walked inside. "Yes, Miss Longbottom?" Dumbledore smiled up at me.
"Today is Saturday, sir. You told me to come and see you," I blushed.
"Ah, yes! I did, didn't I?" He clapped his hands together.
"Yes, sir. You did," I agreed.
"Good. Now, to start off I want you to think of a memory that makes You mad. Not extremely mad, but slightly mad. Remember to have your coat with you," He pointed to the fluffy, red, coat on my arm. I nodded and shut my eyes.
"What do you mean gone, Momma?" 8-year-old me asked Mum. Tears were falling from my eyes. I looked to my brother, his reaction was the same way.
"Your father, left this morning. He just left. He didn't say where too or when," Momma had tear streaks down her cheeks.
"He left us?" I whispered, my voice hoarse. Momma nodded. I burst into tears.
"But...but...Da-dadda's don't leave their chi-children! We-we still nee-need him!" I cried. Frank hugged me. I could feel the tears from his eyes on my head as I sobbed into his shoulder. Ever since that day, Momma never really was the same. She used to be so happy, cheerful, and full of energy. She changed to sad, cranky, and always tired. I never forgave Dadda.
"Well done! Well done! Miss Longbottom!" Dumbledore praised. I opened my eyes, and the world was 6 inches smaller. I looked down at where my feet should have been, but I only saw a furry, red, paw. I barked and jumped around in circles.
"Albus! There's barking! Are you alright?" I looked towards the door. Running in came Professor McGonagall. Panting, I say down looked cheerfully up at her. She let out a yelp.
"There is a dog in your office, Professor," she whispered to Dumbledore. I growled, standing up.
"Now, now Serana. Minerva, this is Seran Longbottom. She is a Wolf," He explained to McGonagall.
"A Wolf! My! I haven't heard of such beings in centuries!" She exclaimed. I trotted over to her and licked her hand. She pulled away uncertaintly. I pouted and whined. McGonagall and Dumbledore chuckled. I barked again.
"Serana, think of a happy memory. She's a natural at it. This is only the second time she's ever turned," Dumbledore whispered to McGonagall. I closed my eyes again.
"Rani, this is Severus. Sev, this is Serana," Lily showed me her best friend, Severus Snape. His hair as messy and looked a little greasy, and his nose was a bit crooked, but I knew right then and there we'd be great friends.
When I reopened my eyes, everything was the right height. However, the feeling of fur still tingled on my skin. I was wrapped in the beautiful coat. I smiled at Professor Dumbledore and McGonagall.
"How do you do it?" She asked, looking at me wide eyed. I beamed at Professor Dumbledore, who gave me a 'Well go on' look. So I did. This time I thought about the first time I met the Slytherin Gang and how they were constantly teasing Lils, Sev, and I. MaGonagall looked more amazed than before.
The rest of the night was me changed back and forth between Wolf and human form, each time McGonagall applauded.
Once, as I changed back into a human, I fell over in exhaustion.
"My. You've been worked all too hard. Go back to the Commen Room for the last few minutes before Dinner," McGonagall looked to Dumbledore for approval. He nodded.
"Come again next Saturday, same time," he told me before the pair of them shooed me down the stairs.
As I walked back to the Commen Room, I was deciding wether I should be happy or angry. Thinking about all the times James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter were mean to Sev just angered me so much, I couldn't even describe it. Well, I guess me turning into a Wolf describes it pretty well. But all the good times I've had with Frank, Lils, Jinxy, and Sev just made me so happy! I couldn't decide, so I just decided to be, well, me.
"Rani! How'd it go?" Lils asked, setting down 'Prince Caspian'.
"Fine. I see you two are enjoying yourselves," I smirked at them.
"Shhh!! Peter's being awesome!" Jinxy whined.
"Somebody's got a crush," Lils teased.
"Nooo!! SHHH! His shoulder just got dislocated! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" She yelled. She jumped up and started running around, still reading.
"Has she been doing this all night?" I asked Lils.
"Mostly," Lils shrugged.
"Personally, I prefer Edmond," I told Lils, sitting on the arm of the couch. Jinxy stopped in her tracks.
"What?" She turned to me, a wicked expression on her face.
"I like Caspian," Lils said.
"NO!" Jinxy and I shouted.
"It's Not Laspian! Or Cily! It's Saspain! Or Cusan," I crossed my arms and huffed.
"I'm sorry. It's just my opinion! Well, technically, I prefer Kili..."
"Ha! If you want to go to Lord Of The Rings crushes..." I stopped myself when I heard footsteps on the stairs. I turned my head and I fell off the couch.
"Have either of you seen, River?" He asked Lils and Jinxy. Did he seriously (no pun intended. Ok, maybe it was) not notice me? I saw Lils and Jinxy glaring daggers at Sirius. If looks could kill, he'd be a goner.
"Even if we did, we wouldn't tell you," Lils snarled.
"Calm your self. I just wanted to know," he scoffed.
"Why? So you could rub Marlene in her face more?" Jinxy snapped.
"No-"
"Why don't I believe him?" Lils asked Jinxy, who shrugged. I resisted laughter as they turned back to their books. As the footsteps disappeared back upstairs, I popped my head up and looked around like a worried merekat.
"He's gone, don't worry," Jinxy sighed.
"Thanks guys. You are truly great friends," I rubbed both their heads before running upstairs to change into actual clothes again.
