Took You Long Enough
I couldn't believe my ears when Dorcas first told me. It was a marvel I thought would never happen, but it finally did.
After my one sleepless night, Dorcas, Emmeline, and I became better friends. I thought it would be nice to have friends outside of the few I had. We would walk together to classes, eat together at lunch and dinner, talk at night with Marlene and Jinxy. Emmeline was quiet, reserved, but very sweet. Drocas was the opposite. She was loud, rambunctious, and unpredictable. She was open about everything, and wasn't afraid to tell her opinions. The two were obviously the best of friends, and I could tell why.
Anyway, I was simply talking to Emmeline about our upcoming test in Potions, and how we both thought it ridiculous that we had a test in the first month of school. Dorcas came running up to us, a wide smile on her face, breathing heavuily, and flushed. She was rambling on and on about something or another, but I couldn't figure out what she was saying, and neither could Emmeline.
"Slow down, Cas, speak words," I told her. She nodded, her grin never leaving. She sucked in a deep breath.
"You will not believe what I just heard! Emme, Rani, I just heard from Elle, who heard from Mar, who heard from Sirius, who heard from Peter, who heard from Remus, who heard from a waiter at The Three Broomsticks, that James and Lily are on a date," she said in what seemed to be in all one breath. My eyes widened.
"What?" Emmeline's mouth had almost dropped down to the floor.
"I heard from Elle, who heard from Mar, who heard from-"
"No, no, Cas, what did you say about James and Lily?" I repeated. Dorcas frowned for a second, the opened her mouth.
"Elle said that Lily and James were at the Three Broomsticks," Drocas said, "On a date."
"Finally," Emmeline mumbled.
"But today isn't even a Hogsmeade trip, and Lily's going to miss some of her classes," I said. My brain was fuzzed. Lily, skipping classes, breaking rules, and going on a date with James Potter, all in one. That's something I've never heard of.
"Lily Evans, 'I said, my mouth slacking, "And James Potter, on a date?" Dorcas nodded enthusiastically.
"I know right!" She was grinning like a made woman.
"I need to find Sirius." I pushed myself away from my friends and made a bee-line for the Common Room. I muttered the password so quickly, the portrait was unsure at first what I had said. So I was forced to say it again. I hoped into the Common Room without closing the portrait, much to her distaste. She was yelling profusely as I marched into the Common Room.
No one was in the Common Room. Most people were in their classes (I knew Dorcas, Emmeline, and I had a free period. Most of our classes were the same), so I knew not to many people would be out and about.
"Sirius! Remus! Peter! Get down here!" I shouted. The boys walked downstairs, half giddy and half frightened. I stood with my lips pursed and my hands on my hips.
"What is it, Darling?" Sirius asked.
"Why is it that Dorcas knows my best friend is going on a date with your best friend before me?" I asked. Peter shuffled his feet behind Remus and Sirius.
"Well.." Sirius tried, but turned to Remus for help.
"You see, Serana..." Remus fumbled over his words.
"It's a...uh..." Sirius attempted again.
"It's a long story," Peter piped up. I nodded.
"Uh-huh. I've got enough time before my next class," I said. The boys stared at me.
"Okay, the truth is Lily didn't want you to know. She was still kinda pissed at you for the whole start of me thing and wanted this for payback," Sirius said quickly. I rolled my eyes.
"Sirius, don't lie to me," I said. Sirius groaned.
"Fine, we didn't want to tell you because we were too lazy, all right? We were talking about it and Marlene must have heard. We were on our way back to the Common Room and didn't want to make any more stops," he told me. Peter and Remus nodded behind him. I sighed.
"Alright, I believe you. Next time tell me if something big happens, aye?" Sirius chuckled.
"It's really cute how you do that 'aye' thing," he said, smiling. I rolled my eyes again and kissed his cheek.
"Well, you're always cute," I said. Peter gagged. Remus cringed.
"Get a room." Mock distaste was evident in his voice.
"Already have one," Sirius replied, not looking up from me. It was one of our favourite things to do now that we were together, making other people feel awkward was a great pass time.
"Ew, ew, I'm leaving," Peter said.
"No, you're not!" A very angry girl marched into the Common Room. Remus, Sirius, and I backed away from her as quickly as possible. She looked pissed as all get out and I did not want to get in the middle of her way.
"Fl...Florence! What are you doing here?" Peter asked, his voice meek and rather rat like.
"You were supposed to meet me in the library! I thought you were with another girl!" And suddenly, the girl in front of me, who was definatly not a gryffindor in her blue clad robes (she must of come through the portrait), burst into tears. Remus, Sirius, and I stared at both Peter and Florence with strange looks.
"It's alright, Florence, I would never cheat on you," Peter said, rubbing the girl's back. "Why don't we go to the library now?" Florence nodded. As he lead her away, he shot the three of us looks that could kill the devil, most likely warning us away from telling anyone.
"Poor bloke, got himself caught up with one of those girls," Sirius said.
"I think it's sweet," I said.
"Nah, I know girls like that. They're clingy and you can't get rid of 'em," Sirius said, aggravation clear in his voice.
"Oh Sirius!" I exclaimed dramatically, "You've dated other girls besides me? I'm so wounded! My heart can't take this! I love you so much! Don't ever leave me baby!" Sirius scoffed and rolled his eyes. Remus seemed to find it hilarious, so I continued. I pinched my cheeks, forcing tears to flood my eyes.
"I can't live without you, Sirius, don't leave me! I'll be better than her! I promise! Please, you can't leave me, baby!" I clung to his robes and pretended to cry, when, in fact, I was laughing. Remus laying on the couch laughing up at us.
"I love you Sirius, don't leave me!"
"Sirius? You're planning on breaking up with Serana?" The voice that spoke up was quiet, but full of anger. I let go of Sirius to find Lily standing at the entrance of the Common Room, James just behind her. I stifled a laugh.
"No, Lils. Sirius was complaining about clingy girls. I thought it'd be funny," I said, wiping away my playful tears.
"It wasn't funny," Sirius said, though he was smiling.
"Yes, actually, it was," Remus said from the couch. James walked over to the chair and flopped into it, a stupid grin on his face.
"So, how was your date?" I asked Lily, bounding over to her and linking my arm in hers. She went red almost immediately.
"How'd you know?" She mumbled.
"Oh, Lily dearest, I know everything," I said, putting my arm around her shoulders.
"It's true, she does," Sirius said. Lily rolled her eyes.
"You must tell me everything!"
The two of us walked around the campus, chatting away.
We decided to skip our next class just to talk. Detention was already in Lily's pathway, and I didn't care much for History of Magic.
"I was just walking to my next class when he came up to me, "She said, "He said if he could make me laugh, I had to go on a date with him. I knew he couldn't make me laugh, so he told me a joke. 'What's black and white and greasy all over.' He asked. I had no clue, so he answered his joke with 'Sirius reading the Daily Prophet and eating sausages.' It was so stupid I just couldn't not laugh! And I didn't know he meant the date would be right then, but the next thing I knew, we were in the Three Broomsticks drinking some tea. "
I nodded.
"That's one way to do it," I said. For some reason, this sent Lily into hysterics. I shook my head at her laughter, but continued to walk around with her.
We were stopped short by McGonagall. She looked slightly bemused .
"Detention, Ms Evans, Ms Longbtoom. There is no reason for you two to be out of class," she said, though she was obviously suppressing a smile. "Oh, and by the way, it took you and Potter long enough." McGonagall left with a wink. It was my turn to burst out laughing as Lily reddened.
