Too Young To Die

Third Person:
Charlotte was curled in a corner, tears staining her cheeks. So many questions swarmed in her mind. What had become of her grandmother? Where was she? Who'd taken here? What had happened to the amulet? One Of the people had taken it, and she didn't know where it was.
The amulet was a magical artifact that Emily's husband found. Because of this, Charlotte knew of magic, but didn't expect her friends to witches.
She heard the metal door rattle. She gasped and curled herself into a tighter ball.
"Get your slimy hands off my friend and brother you git!" Charlotte heard a female voice scream. She knew that voice.
"Serana?" She had whispered the name, lifting up her head.
Two people were thrown into the room. The first let out a girlish squeal, the second a grunt as he landed. Charlie crawled over to them.
The last person was tossed inside, throwing punches and kicking. Their kidnappers shut the door without a word.
Serana walked over to Lily.
"You alright?" She obviously hadn't seen Charlotte yet.
"Yeah, I'm okay." Lily stood, rubbing her arm.
"Me too," the male voice said. Charlotte knew that voice as well.
"Matthew?" She whispered. Her voice brought the attention to her.
"Charlie!" Serana shouted. She ran over to where she thought Charlotte was, for the room was pitch black. The two embraced.
"Char!" Matthew joined the hug.
"Charlotte." Lily joined in as well.
"What are you guys doing here?" Charlotte asked, pulling away.
"We came to rescue you. Didn't do too well, did we?" Serana joked. Charlotte forced a laugh.
Everyone fell silent.
"Do you know what's going on?" Lily asked.
"They wanted an artifact I had. It was magic," Charlie said, "I'm sorry I got you dragged into this."
Serana laughed.
"I'd always come for you, you know that." They became quiet again. The door rattled again. It didn't open fully, but light flooded in from a small hole in the bottom. A loaf of bread and four cups were pushed underneath.
Serana went over to it as the door flap shut. She split the loaf into three parts, and poured one of the cup's contents into the other three. She handed the three loaves and cups to her friends.
"You get your part?" Lily asked, taking her loaf.
"Yeah," Serana lied. She wasn't going to let her friends starve. She put the platter back on the floor.
The four sat in a circle on the floor.
"What do we know about who took us?" Serana asked.
"There are three men and a woman. The woman seems to be their leader, as we were put in here by the men," Lily said.
"They didn't speak, how do you know?" Charlotte asked.
"She has her ways, just trust her," Serana replied.
"That's it really."
"What do we do now?" Matthew asked.
"We sleep."
"Sleep? But-"
"Tomorrow we'll figure everything out. Just sleep."

"Serana, Serana wake up, please," Lily pleaded, shaking her friend. They had been in the room for a week and a half. Serana seemed to be getting weaker, for a reason Lily did not know. And now, she wouldn't wake up.
Charlotte pounded against the door.
"Please! One of us is sick, please, help her!" Charlotte screamed to no avail.
"Char." Matthew put his hand on her shoulder.
Serana slowly blinked her eyes open.
"Wha?" She groaned. Lily hugged her.
"I thought you were dead." Serana sat up, grabbing her head in her hands.
"How long was I asleep?"
"A few hours longer than the rest of us," Lily said. Serana sighed. She sat up and stretched.
"We need to get out of here," Serana said. Lily rolled her eyes.
"You just realized this?" Serana shoved her lightly. She stood, slightly wobbly.
She made her normal patting around the room, trying to find something off. Her head blared, her stomach queezy. She stumbled over. Her friends heard it.
"Rani!"
"I'm...I'm alright," she said, pushing herself up. As she slowly sat up, she saw a sliver of light. She frowned.
She brought her fingers up to the light. Her hands trembled. She pressed her fingers against the light, accidentally knocking some sort of rock away. She let out a gasp. There was a hole.
"Lily! Do you have paper?" She asked. Lily shook her head.
"I'm wearing a white shirt." Charlie had ripped part of her shirt off before anyone should protest. She handed it to Serana. She licked her finger and pressed it into the ash on the ground. on the piece of paper, she wrote 'Help Me.' and signed it 'SL.' She let out a high pitched whistle. She looked outside the hole. A few minutes later, Serana's barn owl came into view. It landed softly on the ground. Serana have the piece of cloth to the bird, who took it in its beak.
"Give this to Sirius Black." The bird flew off. Serana grinned as she watched it fly away. She turned to her friends.
"We're safe."
Seconds later, she fainted.

Serana woke up, Lily was sitting in front of her, looking absolutely serious. She was poking at her fingernails.
"How long have I been out?" Serana asked. Charlotte and Matthew were glowering at her from the wall.
"Why?" Lily asked. Serana scoffed, attempting to sit up.
"Why what?"
"Why have you been starving yourself?" Serana looked away.
"How'd you find out?"
"Like you said, I have my ways. You were out when they fed us. I split the bread into fours. The fours were much smaller that the portions you had given us. Why were you starving yourself?" She repeated. Too tired to argue and too tired to make up lies, Serana told the truth.
"The fourths are just enough food to keep us alive. The bread being split into thirds gave you guys that much more food. I know you're going to say 'we could have taken turns.' But I couldn't let my friends 'take turns' on who gets to eat which day. I made a decision as a leader, and it turned out okay," Serana said. She scored over to the wall, just so he could lean against something. Lily put her piece and Serana's piece at her feet.
"Well I'm making a decision, as a leader, to give you my food because you need it," she said. Serana tried to protest, but two more pieces of bread were laid at her feet. She looked up at Charlotte and Matthew.
"Why?" She croaked.
"You came for me. You saved my Grandmother," Charlotte said.
"Let's just say, if it weren't for you, I'd be a Death Eater. You saved me that pain," Matthew added.
"I don't understand," Serana said.
"You don't need to 'protect' us from starving. You've saved us from so many other things, I think we can stand a day without eating, for your sake." It was Lily who answered, "Eat."
"Answer me this, how long have I been out?" Serana asked, picking up a piece with a shaking hand. Lily glanced at Charlotte.
"It's nighttime. You've been out for 13 hours, I believe," Lily said. Serana sighed.
"Sirius hasn't come?" Lily shook her head. Serana bowed her head.
"I'm sorry I couldn't-"
"No, Rani, don't say you're sorry for anything," Lily said, sitting next to her friend. Charlotte sat on the other side of her friend, and Matthew next to Charlotte. Serana grabbed her friend's hands and laid her head on Lily's shoulders. Charlotte put her head on Matthew's. The four silently thought of everyone they would miss, everyone they won't ever get to say hello to again, everyone they can't say sorry to.
Tears rolled from the eyes of the teenagers. Many adults would say they were too young to be thinking of joining a secret society, or even dating. I say, as the children accepted their fate, that these students were too young to die.
