Y/N'S POV
The bell rang, signalling that school was done. Hastily fixing my stuff, I put my blazer in after I folded it. My sleeves were too long, so I folded them to my elbows and loosened my tight bow tie.
Staring at the letter in hand, I contemplated on giving this to the girl or just throwing it away. I mean, she must have gone home by now. I frowned as I kind of felt bad for the guy who counted on me to give this to her.
I exited the classroom and walked peacefully on the hallways, ignoring the stares of people.
They're irritating.
I went to the 3rd years' floor and strolled around to check every classroom. I shouldn't have wore this bandages, it makes me look weird I think. But then again, I should've not been clumsy in the first place.
"Um, are you a 3rd year?" A guy tapped me on the shoulder.
Slightly jumping, I blinked at him, "No."
He frowned, "Oh?"
"1st year," I said as I looked away and scanned the classrooms.
"Oh....what are you doing here then? Are you looking for someone?" He followed me.
Slightly annoyed, I refrain myself from snapping, "Yeah, someone named Shimizu Kiyoko."
"Oh! She already left her classroom. But she manages the boys volleyball team in the school gym, you'll most likely see her there," He chirped at me.
"Oh, thanks," I said blankly as I turned around to leave.
"No problem. By the way I'm-" I didn't wait for him to finish as I already dashed down the stairs, heading to the gym.
I frowned, I don't really trust boys. But I'm only going to Shimizu-san, it should be fine. I brushed my silver fringe away from my right eye so I could see clearer. Hesitantly looking at the gym doors, I touched the handles and opened them.
I got inside and turned around. I was a bit startled when I saw all of their gazes looking at me. Not minding them, I walked to Shimizu.
"Um, sorry for disturbing your practice. Someone told me to give this to you, although I didn't know why. That's all, thanks," I slightly bowed to her and turned to leave.
"Wait," She calls out.
"Hm?" I looked at her, confused.
She smiled gently, "Are you interested in becoming manager? You're the one my classmates have been talking about since the start of class. I'm assuming you still don't have a club since you just transferred, right? " She said quietly, only for me to hear.
I tilted my head in confusion, "I don't really know how that works-" My words cut off as a ball went zooming at my face.
"O-Oh shit-"
Remaining calm, I put out my hand just in time before the ball hit me on the face. The ball dropped, the sound of it echoing in the now quiet gym.
I looked back to Shimizu, "I'm not really familiar with that kind of thing, so I don't know if I'll get the hang of it. Maybe I'll just go clubless this year."
Rapidly shaking her head, she gave a small thumbs up, "It's fine, I'll teach you."
A frown grazed my lips as I think about her offer, it was kind of unfamiliar and I doubt I'd even do that great. I just laze round my whole life, this kind of thing sounded like a pain. It seemed like a waste of time. A boy few inches shorter than me bowed, "I'm sorry for almost hitting you with a volleyball! Ryuu spiked it really hard and really fast. His spike was too great, it's on a national level. Sure I could easily receive it, but I was too amazed at his top tier skills," He said with a weird face, boasting about his and the guy named Ryuu's skills.
"Stop trying to impress her, Nishinoya," Shimizu blankly told him.
He's about near 160 cm, so I didn't really have to crane my neck to look at him. As cocky and weird as he may sound, he still looked cute. I brought my hand and placed it on top of his head, softly patting it. He froze and some guy gasped.
"Nishinoya-san! I'm proud of you!" The guy who gasped shed a fake tear. Nishinoya released a single tear but maintained a calm face.
Shimizu turned to me with a slight frown, "If you keep doing that, he'll ask for more and it kind of gets annoying."
Removing my hand from his, I nodded apologetically to her. But Nishinoya hastily grabbed my hand and placed it on top of his head again. Shimizu face palmed.
"Simp," A blonde snickered at him along with a brown haired guy.
"Nishinoya-senpai, I still need my hand," I sweatdropped with a small smile. His eyes widened.
"S-Senpai...?" He stuttered.
"You've delivered the final blow," Shimizu sighed and shook her head. I cocked my head in confusion.
"Huh?"
"SHE CALLED ME SENPAI!" He furiously shouted in the gym. The midget looked at his back to a buzz cut guy, "Ryuu!! Did you hear that?! She called me senpai!" He continuously bragged while figurative tears stream down his face. He sniffled, "A pretty girl called me senpai...," He pouted and wiped his tears away.
I was confused, at this situation. He's able to react like that, just because I called him senpai? Isn't it normal..? He's a year higher than me, I saw a glimpse of his name on the board for those who were suspended and came back. Not knowing what will my actions cause, I took out a tissue from the pocket of my bag and handed him one. Shimizu seemed to sigh again.
He looked at me with glassy eyes and pouty lips, then at the tissue. He continued to look at me and to the tissue. He clenched his heart as he cried more.
What is he? A baby?
"Don't tell me you also need my hand to wipe your tears?" I raised a brow at him.
He smiled and brightened up, he was about to nod when the coach whistled. Nishinoya looked at him and apologized before waving at me. The team finally went back to practice, and I've never been that happy when their gazes were gone.
"So."
Shimizu wore a kind smile and looked at me expectantly. I frowned, I'll probably feel a little bad if I turned her down when she's excited like this. A sigh came out of my lips and I raked my hair with my fingers.
I pursed my lips, "Sure, I guess. I could try, but I can't promise I'll do as well as you."
She silently squealed and grabbed my hand, "Thank you! And I'll make sure you get better than me."
"I doubt it. By the way, what are you going to do with that love letter?" I crossed my arms as she frowned.
"I guess I'll just turn them down, like others. Things like these are not my priority, I'd rather spend my time with the team and help them," She smiled as she glnced at the team. Nishinoya and the other guy quickly looked away when their gazes met.
Simps.
I turned to her with a small smile, "Can I start tomorrow? It'd be too sudden if I participate now," I kindly asked and she furiously nodded.
"Of course, take your time. I'll handle your tracksuit and talk to the coaches about this. Thank you again," She bowed but I waved her off kindly. A smile erupted on her plump lips as she waved at me before I left the gym. I saluted and went outside.
What have I gotten myself into?
