Carrots and Potatoes

A bunny hopped along a rocky road,
Holding a basket of carrots in her arms.
She smiled upon her load,
As she quickly neared the farms.

"Elephant! Zebra! Lion!" Bunny called out,
Her friends saw her and waved to her.
They would scream and they would shout,
But to her it was as silent as a purr.

"What's wrong bunny?"
Lion roared.
"Is this a joke? It's not very funny."
Zebra was floored.

Finally, Bunny noticed her friends.
She waved to them and hopped over.
"I brought the carrots, I hope you like bends.
If not I'll take whatever's leftover."

"Forget the carrots! This is serious!"
Lion yelled and grabbed ahold of her.
"Is something wrong? You're being quite mysterious."
Bunny looked at Lion and his golden fur.

"We were yelling at you, yet you ignored us."
Elephant looked down,
He was saddened but didn't want to make a fuss,
So instead, he formed a frown.

Bunny looked at them,
But she only saw their mouths moving,
No sounds, no noise, not even a hum.
She held her head and started grooving.

"I can't hear! What's wrong with me?"
She gasped and began to do laps.
"Calm down Bunny, we'll ask Dr. Bee."
Zebra called, hoping he'd fill in the gaps.

Dr. Bee flew quickly,
He arrived in an instant,
He looked into her ear and knew the situation would be prickly.
He looked at the four and called upon his assistant.

"Have no fear,"
Dr. Bee spoke loudly and clear.

He reached into his pocket,
And pulled out a thing-a-ma-jig.
He zoomed to Bunny's ear, as fast as a rocket,
While holding the thing that was as big as a fig.

"Don't worry dear, this won't hurt a bit."
He flew to her ear and positioned the thing.
Gently, he placed into her ear, "What a perfect fit."
"It's all done." Dr. Bee flew back, "now try to sing."

Bunny was curious,
The thing was strange, but alas, she could hear.
It's a miracle! And not at all spurious.
Bunny hopped up and down as she let out a cheer.

"I can hear! I can hear!"
For everything was now clear.

"You had a slight hearing problem, that's all."
Dr. Bee explained to the young ones,
"It's like carrots and potatoes, like y'all.
They're both vegetables and they come in tons."

"Some have eyes and some have ears.
But they're all vegetables. They're all unique."
Dr. Bee smiled as he looked at his peers.
"So don't be sad, and know you're not a freak."

"You are you,
And you are special. One of a kind."
Bunny looked to her friends, "are they special too?"
"Of course they are, you'll never be defined by how you're outlined."

"As long as you remember, the great golden rule.
You'll be awesome and cool."

"You must treat others the way you wish to be treated."
Dr. Bee smiled and tipped his hat,
Before he left the group, knowing that his job had been completed.
With that, the bee was gone and the four friends began to chat.

"It's so cool how we're all unique!"
Bunny cheered,
"One of a kind, and not a freak."
Lion coughed, his throat he cleared.

Accepting their differences,
The four friends gathered,
To enjoy a tea party that lacked indifferences.
And all through the night they chittered and chattered.

For they loved each other,
Their flaws and all. Best friends together.

The end.
