Trigger Warning: Self Harm/Suicide Attempt.

She paced around, tangling her hands in her hair. She suddenly stopped at the mirror, glaring at herself. The next thing she knew, the mirror broke into shards.

She couldn't take it — she wanted it to stop. She wanted to be normal. But that wasn't possible — she was a freak, and everyone saw her that way.

She had heard a few girls talking about how this —to hurt herself. They were smart and pretty. Why not listen?

She hated how she looked. She hated how she acted. She hated everything about her.

She dragged the glass shard against her arm and let out a small hiss. Blood leaked out, coating her arm. She stared at her arm, mouth agape. She hated the smell. She hated the blood.

Only one person cared for her — Ms. Desjardin. And she was a teacher, it was her job to care for the students.

She glanced down at her arm now dripping with blood. This was awful. She hated that she liked this. She hated every single part of it. But it was distracting — it hurt so much it was distracting from her home and school life.

Everyone else hated her, including herself. She wanted it to stop — the name calling, the hate, the numb feeling, and the pain that surrounded her every day life.

Oh Lord, oh please make it stop.

"Do any of you ever stop to think that Carrie White has feelings?" The question buzzed around in their heads, leaving them confused and dizzy.

"What do you mean?" Chris couldn't help but feel like their teacher was overreacting. If this happened to them, they would only get a detention and not some sort of talk.

"Did you see her?" Ms. Desjardin spat. "You were so caught up in being the bitches you are you didn't seem to notice."

"..Notice what?" Sue finally spoke up. She was quiet almost the whole time. A look of guilt was written all over the girl's expression.

Ms. Desjardin forced a laugh. "Exactly."

The two girls shifted uncomfortably in their seats, looking around her office uneasily.

"She wasn't just bleeding there." She started, this seemingly confused the girls even more.

"What?" Chris furrowed her eyebrows together.

She didn't want to tell them this. But it was most likely the only way they would have at least some sympathy towards Carrie. "Bruises and cuts."

Sue suddenly looked like she was about to cry while Chris just looked shocked. "W-What?" She stuttered.

"The signs are so obvious if you would actually pay attention one in a while." Ms. Desjardin narrowed her eyes.

"She wears long sleeves," Chris yipped. "How would I have known?"

"Well that's one of them—" Ms. Desjardin started. "Remember when Carrie came to school with a big gash on her face?"

"...Oh." Chris looked down.

"I'm so sorry," Sue whispered. "I didn't — I—"

Ms. Desjardin stood up. "Don't apologize to me. Apologize to Carrie."

"How?" Chris muttered bitterly.

Ms. Desjardin only had to glare at Chris for her to shut her mouth. "That's up to you." She looked at the two of them, back and forth. "Now get out of my office."

The two looked at each other and stood up hesitantly. Chris was the first to walk out, with Sue following behind.

"I feel awful." Sue hugged herself while looking over at Chris. "I mean it was pretty obvious. We were just-"

"Look Sue." Chris sighed, "Calm down. You're making it a big deal."

"It is a big deal!" Sue yelped. "She self harmed most likely.. because of us. We're so mean.."

"There were bruises too, y'know." She shrugged, not seeming half as bothered as Sue. She only seemed concerned.

"You noticed?" Sue looked like she was going to burst into tears right there in that moment.

She couldn't possibly care that much, Chris thought, confused. "Look, Sue. I don't have as much sympathy as you-"

"We caused her to be sad — we caused her to self harm, how can you not feel bad about that?" Sue fiddled with her fingers.

"I'm more concerned than anything," Chris looked off to the side. "She's most likely fine. It wasn't much."

"But it was still something," Sue begged. "Why don't you even care for her?"

"It's hard to just.. suddenly like someone you've hated all your life." Chris bluntly said.

"Why do we even bully her?" Sue lightly asked. "I honestly forgot.."

"She's weird." Chris defended.

"And that's it?"

"She was praying at lunch as well-"

"That's just her religion! It's what she was taught!" Sue suddenly felt defensive over Carrie. It took something awful happening to Carrie for her to finally notice and care, and that made her feel awful.

Chris sighed then twirled a strand of her hair around her finger. "She's just weird. Okay?"

Sue shook her head. "She's nowhere near weird. She's misunderstood.. yeah."

Chris only tilted her head, confused on why Sue was suddenly so concerned. The cuts were probably from herself and the bruises from them. But they never physically hurt her, so she was left confused.

"What is it?"

"I don't think we've ever physically hurt her," Chris bit her lip. And that's when realization struck her. You could see it over her face, her eyes were wide and she looked completely shocked. "..Her mom." She was surprised she never thought of this before.

"What about her?" Sue tilted her head. "I'm so confused."

"Do you think her mom's abusive?"

Sue had the same looked Chris did. "Shit. Shit, shit, shit." She ran her fingers through her hair, now pacing back and forth. "Now I feel even worse — it was so obvious!"

"Me too." Chris murmured. "Never mind maybe we're just overthinking."

"Yeah." It sounded like she was trying to convince herself. "Maybe we are."

"Mhmmm.." Chris hummed then quickly thought of a way to change the subject. "I'll help, I guess."

"Wait really?" A smile slowly spread across her face. "You're not lying?"

"Yeah. I owe it to you and Carrie, I guess." Chris glanced at her nails for a moment. "Anyways, how could we make it up to her?"

"I'm honestly not sure." Sue bit her lip.

"You're the one who wanted to in the first place." Chris grumbled.

"I know, I'm sorry."

"It's fine." Chris glanced at her. "I was only teasing."

"Oh." Sue awkwardly put her hands behind her back. "Well uh — prom is coming up."

"So?"

"So maybe we could do something with that," Sue suggested.

"Who would want to go to prom with Carrie White?" She raised an eyebrow at Sue. "I don't know if that'd work."

"We could take her." Sue lightly said.

"No. We would get made fun of." Chris shook her head. "Do you think Tommy would be willing to?"

"Yeah, hopefully." Sue couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed, she liked the idea of taking Carrie to the prom. She liked the idea that they would make her happy. "If I beg him enough, most likely."

"Okay, good." And so was Chris. She did want to take Carrie deep down. She wouldn't admit it aloud, in fact she tried her best to deny it. But she couldn't.

Carrie looked at herself in the mirror. She actually looked pretty.

She didn't look dull. She didn't look sad. She looked like a normal, pretty girl who'd be friends with Chris or Sue.

Her hair was curled at the ends, she had put on make up for the first time and she loved it. It felt odd but it made her pretty — so it was worth it. She even put it on her bruises and cuts so she could wear the dress she made. She still looked like herself (which, she hated) but better!

She still couldn't believe Tommy asked her, of all people. It's just crazy. She's not pretty like those girls. Half of her knew it was a trick but the other half wanted to believe he actually wanted to go with her. But it was just so hard to believe. Everyone hated her — why wouldn't Tommy?

She was sort of happy. Last time she was happy was.. well she couldn't even remember.

A horn honking interrupted her thinking, and she peered through the curtains to see Tommy, and her nerves kicked in all over again, "I'll be home soon." She quietly said to her mom, then slowly walked out of the door.

Carrie was having fun. She'll admit. But when Tommy left to go to the restroom, she couldn't help but feel an awful feeling. She didn't know what it was but she didn't like it. She couldn't help but think things would all go back to normal after prom, everyone would hate her, along with Tommy.

It felt like there were rocks in her stomach — she felt alone. And she hated it. She glanced around the gym, unsure of what to do. She felt so awkward, like everyone was staring at her.

And Chris and Sue were.

She noticed throughout the whole prom they would glance over at her, she didn't like that. It made her uneasy.

She glanced down at her pretty flower bracelet, fiddling with it as a distraction. She liked it, it was pink. She liked pink. It was pretty. It was probably her favourite colour, even.

She started to get fidgety. Where was Tommy? Did he ditch her? How would she get home? Momma would be so mad.. and she would be right as well.

Carrie hugged herself and continued glancing around, her worry only eating at her more and more. And once she removed her hand, she could see a faint outline of a slash on her arm.

She almost jumped, quickly placing her hand over it. She looked around the room, thankful no one seemed to notice even though many people were staring at her.

And that's when she finally accepted it. Tommy had ditched her and everyone knew — she was surprised no one had laughed at her yet.

She stood up with a jolt, and decided on looking around, acting as if she didn't care.

She tilted her head upon finding a large staircase. Her curiosity got the best of her, and she decided on walking up.

She opened the door it lead to, and stepped outside. It was surprisingly cold, she shivered against the wind that blew her hair.

It was actually relaxing out here, she walked around the rooftop, just now realizing her hand was still over her gash. She removed it to see the makeup was completely gone. She let out a small sigh, then traced her finger over it.

It was ugly. And red. She didn't like it. But she deserved this. Why was she suddenly so focused on her scars? This was supposed to be a fun night. Well, it was, until she finally realized the truth — that it was a prank.

Carrie suddenly stopped, jumping back. She had almost fell of the edge. She held her hand up to her heart that seemed to be beating a million times faster.

She slowly looked over the edge. It was so far down, she could have died-..

Wait, what if she didn't notice and fell down?

Everyone would be happy. No one would even notice, now that she thought about it.

She really was nothing.

What's the point of existing when no one cares for you?

Carrie wasn't stupid. She knew no one liked her. Not even Ms. Collins. It's her job to care for students.. she would only be doing everyone a favour by dying.

The more Carrie thought on it, the more she wanted to fall down and see her dad. She wondered what her dad was like. Was he nice? Did he actually love her?

She looked down over the edge, a dizzy feeling took over her. She was going to do it — she was going to end her life.

For it would benefit everyone, including herself.

Sue furrowed her eyebrows then pointed at Carrie, "Where's she going?"

"To the rooftop, I assume." Chris shrugs, turning her attention back to her nails.

"Is she alright?" Her eyes were glazed over with concern. "Where's Tommy?"

"I dunno," Chris glanced over at her. "She probably just went up there since he left."

"But why? Why not somewhere else?"

Chris sighed then turned to face Sue fully. "Carrie wouldn't do that. Whatever you're thinking."

"But how can we be sure," she breathed, messing with the fabric of her dress. "She did harm herself, after all.."

Chris sighed, then gave in. "We can check on her if you're really that worried."

"But what if she really does want to.. you know." Sue bit her nails.

"Uhm.." Chris looks around the room to see Tommy, standing at his and Carrie's table with a confused look. She waved, hinting for him to come over to them.

"Where's Carrie?" He asked, still looking around once he made it to them.

"She walked to the rooftop," Sue quickly said. "Do you mind checking on her?"

"Sure. What's going on?"

"I just —" Sue looked over at Chris, obviously worried and scared. She hoped they weren't stalling too much. "I just have a feeling. Please, please, check on her?"

"Okay." Tommy nodded, and walked off to the rooftop.

"Now what?" Chris asked.

"Can we.. go outside?"

"Why?"

"What if Carrie is doing it —? Please, Chris. I'm so worried."

Chris hated this. She hated that she cared for Sue and now Carrie. But she eventually nodded, taking Sue's hand. "Alright."

Relief washed over Sue's expression, and she quickly made her way through the crowd, dragging Chris with her.

"Carrie?"

The girl yelped then jumped around to be met with Tommy. "H-hi."

"What're you doing up here?" He asked, slowly edging towards her.

She glanced down. She needs to do it soon. He'll just manipulate her. "I don't know." She quietly said, covering her arms to the best of her ability.

Tommy noticed this, but he didn't question anything. "Why don't you come back?"

Carrie shook her head.

"Why not?"

She only shook her head again, closing her eyes.

"Come on, Carrie."

Carrie shuffled her feet, the more she stood there the more she wanted to fall off.. "I'm not stupid," She finally said, barely lifting her head to look at Tommy.

"What?" He furrowed his eyebrows together.

"I'm not stupid." She repeated, this time louder.

"I know you're not, Carrie." Tommy held out his hand. "Come on, lets go back."

"I know you're tricking me." Carrie breathed, now fully lifting her head. "They're other girls — they're so much prettier than I am, so much more likeable.." she paused, "And you've never liked me before.. why would that change? And even if you did like me, how could your opinion change so quickly?"

"Carrie calm down," Tommy's voice wavered. "I do care for you."

"No you don't." Carrie stiffly said. "No one does."

"Well, I do-"

"NO ONE DOES!" She exclaimed, backing up. Her eyes brimmed with unshed tears, "No one cares, not even my mom."

"Carrie please." He begged.

"No one loves me —" The wind seemed to pick up. "No one, not you, not Ms. Collins.. no one." She sniffled, "But good job.."

"What do you mean?" Tommy shivered.

"Good job for making me believe someone actually loved me for a bit," Carrie murmured. "No ones ever tricked me that well."

She looked up at Tommy one last time, mouthing 'Goodbye.'..And that's when she fell.

Chris thought Carrie White's death would be something that everyone would praise or ignore.

But that wasn't the case — the more she thought on it the more awful it seemed. Carrie would die knowing no one cared. She heard their conversation. It was loud. And deep, deep down, she did care for her. Just in the slightest.

Her funeral would be the saddest thing ever. She could only picture everyone's reactions. And if hers was bad, everyone else's would be even worse..

And that was why, she couldn't let her die.

Chris would've stumbled and fallen over if Sue wasn't there to catch Carrie as well.

And at first, it was complete silence. Carrie's eyebrows were furrowed together and her eyes were shut tight, as if she was afraid to even open them and see who caught her.

"Carrie?" Sue quietly said. She was trying not to cry, Chris could tell. She looked so upset.

Carrie slowly opened her eyes. She didn't know what to do. Should she run away? Or what? She looked like she was about to break down. She was so close to actually doing it — to actually ending her life. But it was stopped, and now she'd have to deal with the teasing.

She continued staying completely still, the look of shock and sadness was the only remaining thing.

"Carrie, why?" Chris asked, breaking the awful silence.

Carrie opened her mouth to only let out a small whimper, she was trying her best not to breakdown in front of her own bullies.

"I'm so sorry.." Sue whispered. "Carrie you can cry. Let it out, please. It'll feel better."

Chris nodded, rubbing the shorter girls back.

And Carrie did as they said. She broke down in their arms, her body shook with endless sobs and muffled cries.

"I'm so sorry," Chris started. Sue and Chris both had their arms around Carrie — it was one big group hug. "I really am. Don't do that again."

"Yeah.. please. Please, oh please." Sue sniffled.

"Y—you're just saying that!" Carrie cried, shaking her head frantically. "W-why did you even s-stop me!?"

"Because we do care, Carrie!" Sue whimpered. "We wouldn't have saved you if we didn't!"

"Y-you just w-want to keep r-ruining my l-life," Carrie stuttered, pulling away from them. "Just leave me alone.."

"Carrie." Chris forcefully grabbed Carrie's wrists, causing the shorter girl to flinch and jump back. "..I'm sorry."

Carrie backed up against the school building, gently rubbing her wrists. "Its alright." She looked up at the top of the school. Oh how tempted she was to go back up there and try it again. "I'm sorry.."

"You don't have a reason to be sorry, Carrie." Sue slowly edged toward her, careful not to scare Carrie off.

"I'm just a waste of space," she looked down. "And d-don't even deny it. N-Norma said so and you both agreed."

"But opinions can change," Sue wrapped her arms around Carrie again causing her to jump and tense up. But she slowly relaxed. "And we really do care now."

"We won't ever mess with you again." Chris hummed, running her fingers through Carrie's hair. "Is there any way we could help you?"

Carrie nodded then quickly shook her head after. "Well maybe I guess, but it's embarrassing." She had her head against Sue's chest.

"We won't judge. We want to make it right." Sue gently spoke.

"O-okay," she whispered. "Please don't tell my mom about this. I don't want her to know."

"We won't." Chris soothed. "I promise."

"Me too." Sue hummed, giving Carrie a quick kiss on the head. "You're safe and loved now. Just don't kill yourself. Nobody wants that. I promise, and it's never the answer."

Carrie's eyes welled up with tears. She actually believed them. She continued crying though, she couldn't seem to be able to stop.. But she eventually did, and it was replaced by the numb feeling Carrie always dreaded.

Sue started to pull back but Carrie quickly wrapped her arms around her again. "Don't go... please."

Sue looked down at her then wrapped her arms around her. "How about you sleep over at mine, Carrie?"

Carrie sniffled then shrugged. "I-I don't know, I don't want to bother you."

"You won't. I invited you, after all."

Carrie ended up nodding finally, "Can Chris come too..?"

Sue glanced over at Chris with a small, playful smile. "Chris?"

"Of course." Chris was surprised at this, but smiled back, both of her hands finding theirs.

Carrie ended up telling Ms. Desjardin and a few others about her mom. Which, of course, they told the authorities. Carrie felt bad about it. She still cared for her mom and she always will.

But Chris and Sue were there. The whole time.

Carrie ended up living with Ms. Desjardin, she was like the mom she never had. She loved her. And she found herself slowly beginning to trust her as well.

It felt good to trust people, you knew someone was there for you and that they actually cared.

And every now and then, Chris and Sue would stay over and have these fun sleepovers. Carrie always looked forward to that.

..Especially when they all three started dating.

It was amazing. She loved them more than anything in the world. They would always cuddle with each other, and they all loved that.

Ms. Desjardin even accepted them!

They were practically Carrie's therapists. They were everything she wanted. And she would do anything for them.

They would always make sure Carrie was okay. They're so understanding..

"Carrie?" Sue waved her hand in front of her face.

"Oh, sorry." Carrie blushed, ridding herself from her thoughts.

"Are you alright?" Chris glanced over at her.

"Never been better." She smiled sweetly, leaning into Chris while Sue had her arm wrapped around her waist. "I can't thank you guys enough.. for everything."

"Carrie, as we said it's no problem." Chris lightly said. "We're so glad you're here.. and safe.. and ours."

"Mhmm, we love you for who you are." Sue planted a kiss on her cheek.

"I-I love you guys too.." Carrie whispered. "So, so much.."
