Moonlight. (Chris x Billy)
In which their relationship isn't toxic. Requested by aidanswifeee . I actually like how this turned out, so hopefully others will as well.
Also, I'm sorry for the lack of updates. I'm planning on focusing more on writing than messing around on here, so, that might help.
TW⚠️ - Slight mentions of an abusive parent.
Chris didn't deserve to get banned from prom, in her opinion. It's not her fault Carrie White doesn't know what her period is.
Technically they were helping?
Chris sighed under her breath, annoyed. It wasn't the best day, every single girl seemed to be staring and whispering at her. But this is what Carrie had to go through, right?
Whatever, it doesn't matter.
The day dragged on, Chris's attitude still the same even when the day ended, and she was leaning up against the wall, waiting for Billy to come and pick her up.
Her heart suddenly skipped a beat when she saw his red truck pull up in front of her. It was the first time she felt happy in the slightest all day.
She rid herself from her thoughts, and opened the door, "hi Billy," she got into the passengers seat.
"Hey hun," Billy glanced over at her. Almost automatically, he could tell something was wrong. She wasn't wearing that smug look of hers like she normally did, "you alright?"
"Yeah," Chris hummed, hesitantly meeting his gaze, "just upset, I guess, but it's nothing I can't handle."
Billy tilted his head, "c'mon. You can tell me. I'll do my best an' cheer you up."
A small smile played at her lips, but it quickly faded as she told Billy about her day.
"You got banned from prom?" Billy felt bad — and it wasn't even him who experienced it. He knew how much prom meant to the girl in front of him.
"Mhmm," Chris leaned her head against the window, "you probably think I'm overreacting."
"Nuh-uh. I knew how much prom meant to you," He hesitantly placed his hand over hers, "how about I make it up to you?"
She looked over him, her eyebrows furrowed together, "how?"
"Well uh — I'll think on that."
Chris smiled slightly. She loved Billy, and she wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. Including prom, "I love you, y'know."
He smiled back, "an' I love you too."
Moments like these were rare, but valued between the two. They rarely showed any sort of vulnerability, scared of what and how the other may think and react.
"Billy?"
"Hm?"
"Thank you."
"Huh? For?"
"For everything," Chris started, looking around for a moment to see if anyone was listening in on them. It hit her with embarrassed realization that no one could hear them through the car, "just — being there for me and — yeah."
Billy smiled faintly at her, "o' course, chucky. I hope you know you can talk to me, anytime."
Chris gave a playful roll of her eyes, "your speech was very heartwarming up until that nickname."
Billy smiled teasingly at her, "what d'you have against it?" He chuckled.
"It just- it sounds weird." She held back smile, her nose scrunching up while doing so. She was trying her best to be upset, but that obviously wasn't going well for her.
"Ya just can't stay mad at me," his grin never faltered, "can ya?"
Chris sighed through her nose, and gave a playful roll of her icy blue eyes, "mmmm, we'll see about that."
"Right," he started up the truck, "anyway- Chris. You mind if I take ya somewhere?"
Chris blinked a few times, her eyebrows furrowed together, "I mean — sure you can. -But why?"
Billy drove out of the school parking lot. He glanced over at her for a moment, "I said I cared for ya, didn' I?"
"I didn't think you'd.. actually do anything," Chris fiddled with her hands, not knowing how to react to this.
Billy noticed this, and reached over to intertwine their hands, "well, now you know that I would."
A silence followed after. No — not that awkward silence when tension hung thickly in the air. It was sweet, they were enjoying each other's company.. it was lovely.
No words were exchanged between the two on their way. Well, no.
Repeatedly, Chris would ask, "where are we going?" And Billy would reply with the same answer, "it's a surprise."
After about a while of this, the two finally arrived. The sun was setting by now. Pretty colours such as pink, orange, and purple danced in the distance, along with occasional stars littering across the sky.
"How did you know about this?" Chris exited the car, her gaze fixated on the view ahead of her.
"You don' remember?" Billy chuckled quietly, his gaze flickered between their surroundings, and to Chris herself.
Chris paused, then realization washed over her, "it's where we first met."
Billy grinned, a nod followed after, "mhmmm. — Why were you up 'ere, anyway?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Chris shuffled her feet, before answering, "my dad was being — well, himself. I came up here to get away from him, and I met you while doing so."
"Gosh, I'm real sorry 'bout that," Billy awkwardly ran his fingers through his hair, "I hate that he's so rude to ya. You deserve none of it."
"No, Billy, it's okay," Chris hummed, "I don't like that he.. does those things. But without it, I wouldn't have met you, and I'd never regret that."
Billy looked ahead of him, "I don' really know to respond to that," he sighed through his nose, "but I-I'm very glad to've met you as well."
"Thank you, really." Chris spoke, barely above a whisper.
"Mhmmmm."
Once again, a silence fell over them, the only noise being their easy breathing pattern, and their steady heart beat.
"You know," Chris broke the silence while looking over at her boyfriend, "this is way better than prom."
"You're serious?"
"Mhmmm," Chris grinned at his reaction. He seemed genuinely shocked, "I am. Prom would've been crowded anyways, we should come here again."
"I'd love to, hun." he grinned back at her.
Chris smiled easily at him, the sunset reflecting in her eyes, "we can throw our own prom."
But Billy didn't mind the beautiful view ahead, he had Chris, and that was enough for him, "we can, an' we will."
