"Mia !"
"Get up Mia!," called out Eva, pulling off the blanket under which Mia had comfortably curled herself into a ball.
It was really cold this morning. Cool breeze blew into their room through the open window. It was all foggy outside. Nothing was visible, not even the building right in front of theirs. It was all quiet and peaceful. It was like their room was floating among clouds in heaven.
"Mia, it's 7:15 am! I'm tired of waking you up every day like this. You need to be more disciplined!," she said, putting in all her strength to pull the blanket and overcome the resistance offered by her twin to not let go of her favorite blanket which kept her warm and cozy.
Eva wasn't the one who gave up easily. She kept trying again. Finally, Eva pulled off the blanket in one go, using all the strength she had, after trying for the third time!
But Mia did not move. She closed her eyes even more tightly and continued sleeping, in the same position. She slept as if not even an earthquake would disturb her sleep!
Eva didn't say anything now. She simply grabbed her water bottle which was kept on the side table, next to Mia's bed.
Instead of just sprinkling a few drops of water from the bottle, she emptied all its content right on Mia's face.
"STOP!", Mia screamed, putting her hands in front of her face in defense, her eyes still shut tightly. She sat up at once, water dripping from her hair and face. She shook like a little bird trying to dry herself. She was shivering. She hated being waked up like this.
"Evaaa!,"she groaned, really annoyed.
"Why do you always do this?!," she asked with a scowl on her face.
"Because nothing else works! I waste half an hour every morning waking you up, because of you I'm late for the school assembly every day! And I won't let this happen from today. I'm not waiting for you anymore.", Eva said.
Eva was all ready to leave for school. She was dressed in their school uniform, which was a white shirt, paired with a navy blue pant. Her hair was tied up in neat pony tail. She was wearing a navy blue tie with white stripes and her blazer on which the school logo was printed, below which was printed their school name and motto.
UNITED SCHOOL.
Building a knowledge society.
She had put up her HEAD GIRL badge below that.
"You just woke me up from an amazing dream! you know what, in my dream we...", Mia continued, not listening to her sister.
"Okay then. Go back into your amazing dream world then", interrupted Eva. She wore her school identity card and put on white ankle-length socks.
"Go to school in your dream. Submit your English assignment in your dream, all in your dreams. Do everything in your dreams Mia. I'm locking the door and leaving, right now", Eva said.
"We were in NEW YORK city!! Right in the middle of Times Square. The whole place was so bright and cheerful. Huge billboards and bright digital screens everywhere. It was very crowded and we were walking through the huge crowd. We walked into every shop out there and bought everything we possibly could.
But suddenly, it started raining cats and dogs, and that was You waking me up!", Mia continued ignoring whatever Eva said.
She wanted to tell Eva more about her exciting dream. She wished Eva could listen.
"Oh really? Times square!," she said showing fake excitement as she looked up at Eva while tying her shoelaces.
"Happy dreaming, my dear sister!", she said mockingly, as she picked up her bag and started walking towards the door.
Mia just stared at her in shock. What's wrong with Eva, she thought. Eva was Never like this.
Eva had already walked out, closing the door behind her.
"Eva! Evaa! wait! What's wrong with you!," Mia called out, after coming back to her senses.
Mia got down from her bed and ran towards the door. "Eva stop! You can't just lock me in like that!"
She heard the key turn. She reached the door and tried to open it. But she couldn't. It was locked. Eva had really locked the door and left. Mia heard her footsteps fading down the stairs.
Mia started banging on the door so that Eva would come back and open the door.
"Eva, stop! Open the door!", Mia shouted. She didn't hear footsteps anymore. Eva had gone.
"Anyone out there??", she cried out. She continued banging on the door, even more harder. She hoped someone listen and would open the door. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to be there to hear her.
After a few minutes of banging at the door and screaming, she stopped, having lost all hope.
She looked up at the wall clock and saw that the time was 7:35 am.
7:45 was their school prayer time. All the students would have already left the hostel to assemble in the school hall for the prayer.
Mia couldn't think of what to do next.
She would be punished for missing school for no reason. She wondered if Mrs. Gousten had already sent her parents a message about violating the hostel rules yesterday.
And what was Eva talking about the English assignment, she thought trying to recollect whatever Eva said.
Mrs. Laura Lee was the most short-tempered teacher in the entire school. She wasn't the one who forgives you and gives you a second chance.
Mia would be literally failed in English for not submitting her assignment!
Mia couldn't think of anything. She was just stuck in the room. Stuck with no way out. And Eva? How could she do such a thing to her own sister?
Mia turned back to the door and started banging it, "anybody out there?" she called out again, as she placed her head on the door, hopelessly. But there was no one to help her out.
She looked back at the clock. It was 8.15. "What should I do now?", she asked herself. She just felt so helpless. She leaned against the door.
Just in a few seconds, the lights went off. The room became completely dark. She just froze at the spot.
The only thing Mia was scared of in this world, was being locked in a room alone in the dark.
