chapter 2: The Perfect Storm of Carnage
"Uh... nothing," Lincoln said. "I think we should take this party inside." He held out his hand and a drop of rain landed in his palm.
The group gathered their things as more rain began to fall.
...
Mrs. Kernicky, an elderly resident of the Casagrande apartment building headed to the basement to do some laundry.
She noticed the window in the basement had been broken. She didn't think anything of it and turned her attention to the laundry machines.
Suddenly something came from behind and wrapped a red clawed hand around the old woman's mouth.
She panicked and felt a sharp pain in her back like a knife was being plunged into her flesh. She was thrown to the ground and looked up at her assailant in shock and horror. A slimy red tentacle covered her mouth, muffling her final screams.
...
Ronnie Anne and her friends gathered in the hallway on the top floor.
"Ugh, so what now?" Ronnie Anne said.
"We could hang out at my apartment." Lincoln suggested. "It's really nice of you guys to throw this party and welcome me to the city. But I kind of feel bad leaving my sisters out of this."
"Don't you have like, ten sisters?" Casey asked.
"Yeah well... 9 now." Lincoln's face suddenly grew sadder.
"I think I'm actually going to head home before this storm gets worse." Casey said.
"Oh, come on, we can have fun inside too." Sid said.
The rest of the group left heading to their respective homes.
Only Sid Ronnie Anne and Lincoln remained.
"Well at least the three of us can still have some fun." Lincoln said.
...
The Loud family was lucky enough to get an apartment that had five extra bedrooms so two siblings could sleep in each room.
Lincoln and his friends ran into Lori as they entered the Loud's apartment.
"Oh, hey little bro," Lori said. "This must be that Sid girl you mentioned."
"Wow Lincoln, you told your family about me?" Sid smiled.
"Well, I mentioned you." Lincoln said.
"Are you three having a little sleepover?" Lori asked. "Isn't that adorable. Feel free to hang out in my room."
"I thought you didn't like me in your room?" Lincoln said.
"I don't like you in my room at home." Lori clarified. "This is just a temporary living space, I don't care what you do with my room here. So long as you don't bother Leni. In fact she could probably use the company, I'm not going to be there tonight. Tonight I'm going to be sleeping with Bobby." Lori caught herself and started to blush "... I uh... I mean I am going to be sleeping in Bobby's room. We haven't seen each other in a while, and I want to catch up with him... Yes that is all he and I are going to do tonight. Just... don't let mom and Dad know you saw me, ok?"
"Uh... yeah sure thing Lori." Lincoln said.
Lori left the room.
"So, your sister and my brother are clearly going to be fucking each other's brains out tonight." Ronnie Anne pointed out.
Lincoln let out a giggle.
"So, what now?" Sid asked. "How about we watch that King of the Rings movie you've told us about."
"Great idea!" Lincoln said. "You guys stay here, I'll get the DVD from my room."
Lincoln left, leaving Ronnie Anne and Sid alone in the living room.
"So, what do you think is wrong with Lincoln?" Sid asked.
"Well, he went through a lot of trauma, and lost his sister." Ronnie Anne said. "You'd be acting weird too if you were in his shoes."
"I don't think his shoes would fit me." Sid said. "My feet are pretty small."
Ronnie Anne rolled her eyes. "It's weird, Lincoln says he doesn't want to talk about it, which is understandable. But the rest of is family simply says they don't remember. Almost like Lincoln is the only one who actually remembers what happened. But how can you forget what happened to your own sibling or daughter?"
"Grief will do that to you dudes." Luna said as she walked past, tuning her guitar.
"Do you remember what happened to Lucy?" Sid asked.
"Oh yeah I... I do." Luna's tone suddenly grew grim. "She... she killed herself."
Ronnie Anne and Sid gasped.
"And Lincoln, poor little guy." Luna said. "He's the one who found her body. Well, that's what they tell me anyway."
"That's what, who tells you?" Ronnie Anne asked.
Luna scratched her head. "I... I don't remember." Luna turned around and headed to her room, muttering something about a guy with an eyepatch.
"Well that just raised more questions than answers." Sid said.
...
The twins Lola and Lana sat in what would be there room for the next few days. The girls were fast asleep in their beds.
Suddenly Lola woke up with a yelp.
"Ugh Lana!" Lola growled. "Your stupid snake got into my bed!"
Lana turned to look at her twin. "Uh Lola, I left all my pets at back in Royal Woods for Sam to take care of. You must have been dreaming."
"I was not dreaming I felt something slithering in my bed." Lola said.
Lana become a little more alert. "Well, it definitely wasn't my snake. And if it wasn't a snake, then what could possibly be slithering in your bed?"
"Ah! I felt it again!" Lola said. She ripped off her covers and turned on the lamp on her nightstand.
Nothing, there was nothing under Lola's blankets but Lola.
"Uh, did you wet the bed?" Lana asked pointing to a trail of moisture at Lola's feet.
"Ugh, I do NOT wet the bed!" Lola protested. "Maybe it was slime from your slimy snake."
"Uh snakes don't have slime." Lana said. "They're reptiles, they have dry skin. That is definitely pee dude."
Lola placed a finger on the wet spot.
"HA! You touched it." Lana mocked.
Lola lifted her hand up and a clear slimy fluid dripped from her finger.
"That is NOT pee." Lola said. Then she noticed that the trail of slime continued off of her bed, along the floor and under Lana's bed.
Then the lamp went out.
"Dang it!" Lola said. "I knew I shouldn't have bought that cheap lamp from Flip."
Lola looked back to the bottom of Lana's bed, Lola gasped. Under Lana's bed was a flesh-colored hand with long claws at the end of each finger. The hand quickly ducked back under the bed.
"Lana!" Lola whispered, "There is a monster under your bed." Her eyes had grown wide, and her heart was beating faster and faster.
"What? no way." Lana said. "Y-you can't s-scare me Lola." Lana noticed the slime trail leading to her bed. And Lola was clearly terrified as she staired wide eyed at the bottom of Lola's bed. Seeing her sister so scared made Lana start to feel afraid.
Lola was stunned looking at the black void under her sister's bed waiting for some horrifying monster to come out and gobble them both.
"Wh-what do we do?" Lana asked.
Lola tried to say something, but she could not bring the words to her lips. She couldn't move, she couldn't speak. She could only stair and wait.
"Lola, I...I don't want to be eaten." Lana whispered.
A few moments past as the twins staired in a bone chilling silence.
For a moment Lola started to calm down, thinking that maybe she was just seeing things. That there really was nothing under that bed, after all it was dark. But then they could hear a deep breathing sound from under Lana's bed.
Lana stood up on her bed. "Lola!"
"D-don't move." Lola said. Lola looked to the door. It wasn't that far maybe she could make a run for it. But the monster would certainly come out and try to grab her. But maybe if it ate her, it would give Lana time to escape.
"Maybe I can distract it." Lola said. "Then you make a run for it."
"Then what happens to you?" Lana asked.
"It eats me." The words escaped Lola's mouth before she could even think about what she was saying.
"nnnoooooo." Lana said in a hushed voice, shaking her head. Lana opened her mouth to scream.
"Wait, don't scream." Lola said. "It... it might grab you if you do."
Lana clasped her hands over her mouth as tears ran down her face. "Can... can you see it?"
"No... but I can hear it." Lola said.
Then Lola's eyes grew wider, and her jaw dropped as the monster slowly peaked its head out from under Lana's bed.
...
Lincoln returned to the living room with a copy of King of the Rings.
"Hey buddy." Ronnie Anne said in a sympathetic tone. "Luna told us what happened to Lucy."
"She did?" Lincoln said.
"Yeah, that's really rough man." Sid said. "I am so sorry. I... I can't imagine what you're going through."
"What did she tell you exactly." Lincoln said, raising an eyebrow.
"That Lucy took her own life." Ronnie Anne said. "And that you um... found her."
"Um... yeah that's... that's exactly what happened." Lincoln said. "What you just said is exactly what happened. It was definitely a suicide, not a murder. No reason to investigate further."
"So, is that why you're getting all weird about meat and chocolate?" Sid asked.
"Uhhh, yeah." Lincoln said.
"But what does meat and chocolate have to do with..." Ronnie Anne started.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" The twins ran screaming into the living room.
"Whoa what's going on?" Lincoln said.
Immediately the rest of the family filled into the living room.
The twins both hugged Lincoln as hard as they could, tears flowing down their little faces.
The parents and the rest of the loud siblings gathered around all talking at once, asking what was going on, and if the twins were alright.
"Hey, take it easy for a moment." Ronnie Anne said quieting the family down.
"What's wrong?" Lincoln calmly asked once everyone quieted down.
"There's a m-m-m monster." The twins both stammered.
"It was under my bed." Lana sobbed.
"Uh, ok what did this monster look like?" Lincoln said in a calm voice with a warm smile. He, as well as everyone else assumed the twins were just letting their imaginations get the best of them, as 6-year-olds often do.
"It was this big mean looking thing." Lola said. "It had this big, twisted smile filled with long sharp teeth."
"And white eyes." Lana added. "And they didn't even look like eyes, they were like, flame shaped."
"Or like big white commas." Lola said.
"Commas?" Lincoln suddenly became very serious. "Listen guys, this is very important. Did he say anything to you?"
"Yeah." Lana said. "He said, he, he said that his name was Carnage."
"Wait, Carnage?" Lincoln tilted his head, becoming suddenly confused. "Who the Hell is Carnage?"
"Uh, the monster under my bed." Lana said.
"Uh, yeh, did you not hear a word we said?" Lola added.
"Ok, so this uh... Carnage, did he have black skin, like really dark black, like tar." Lincoln said.
"No he was red." Lana said.
"Like BLOOD!" Lola added.
"If only Lucy was still here." Lynn mumbled.
"Red?" Lincoln said.
"Uh, am I the only one who noticed that this is the second time Lincoln's brought up that black tar monster?" Sid whispered to Ronnie Anne.
"Well let's go see this so-called monster." Lincoln said getting to his feet.
"No! It's going to eat you!" Lola warned.
...
Lincoln entered the twin's room and turned on the light.
"Well, I don't see any monster." Lincoln said. "Now are you sure he said his name was Carnage? Not Venom."
"Venom?" Lola said. "Who's Venom?"
"And why does that name sound so familiar." Lana said.
"Uh, Venom is that junk that snakes have." Lynn said entering the room. "You know, to kill their prey with. Psh, everyone knows that."
"Yeah, it's the snake stuff." Lincoln said making his way to the bed.
"Don't look under there, Carnage will get you!" Lola said.
"I don't see any monster." Lincoln said looking under the bed. "You two must have scared him off. Even monsters know not to make Lola mad."
"Yeah, that's right." Lola perked up with a smile putting her hands on her hips. "No one messes with Lola Loud."
"Or Lana Loud." Lincoln said. "How many other 6-year-olds can hog tie an alligator."
"Just me." Lana said with pride.
"Dudes which one of you guy wet the bed?" Lynn said, pointing to the wet stain on Lola's bed.
"Lola." Lana laughed.
Lola scowled. "I didn't wet the bed, Lana. That's not even pee."
"EW!" Lynn shrieked and backed away from the bed.
"They're 6 Lynn." Lincoln said. "It's not that."
The twins looked at each other and shrugged.
Lincoln took a look at the trail of slime.
"So, something was here." Lincoln said.
Ronnie and Sid walked into the room.
"So did you find any monsters." Sid asked.
"We found slime." Lincoln said.
"Slime." Sid said.
"Maybe the twins saw a giant snail." Ronnie Anne joked.
"Or maybe Adelaide's frog got in here." Sid said. "Frogs are slimy."
"It wasn't a frog, and it wasn't a snail." Lola said.
"It was Carnage." Lana said.
"And he was really mean." Lola added, crossing her arms. "He called me names."
"He said Lola was a prissy little brat who wets herself." Lana said.
"Uh... He didn't say brat." Lola explained.
"Well, I don't really feel comfortable repeating the word he actually said." Lana admitted.
"Yikes." Sid said.
"Hey Stincoln, I found more of that slime stuff." Lynn pointed to the air vent which was covered in slime.
Lincoln walked over to the vent. He knelt down and looked into the darkness, somehow, he could feel something looking back at him.
"Carnage huh?" Lincoln whispered. "Are you the other guy? Well either way, Venom or Carnage, I know what hurts you, so leave my family alone."
