We waited, they waited, and then finally in amongst cattle, the Christ child was born.

The Father, at the invitation of the Son, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, sent Jesus the Son to live on earth, fully human and fully divine, to show us the way and himself to save us.

Vulnerable, naked into the world he came, showered with love and in great danger. He shares the fate of the refugee, growing up in a foreign land, and eventually returning to the backwoods to live as an adult in Nazareth, the back of beyond.

Right now, today, we have to wonder at the majesty and the infinite wisdom of this little child, who has to learn to walk and talk and think and agree and reject, as we do, and accept, and accept, as we may try to do.

Ours is a God who chooses to share our fragility. Who knows what it is to be human. Who is prepared to live and to die. That represents a lot of love.

Be amazed.

Feel the awe.

And smile, because he was a baby, a scrumptious little baby, the Son of God.
