CHAPTER NINE
Draco and Carina Malfoy were inside Hogwarts Express sitting in silence. Draco noting his sister's pursed lips and cold eyes filled with annoyance, knew that she was definitely not happy. He decided that it was for the best if they sat on a compartment by themselves. He didn't need anyone else to fuel her anger.
He guessed that their father was the reason of her grumpy state. At breakfast Carina would growl quietly as their father talked to them, going over their behavior and rules, and when she was allowed to speak her tone would send chills in his veins. She was upset as well as frustrated and that happens only when she can't figure something out.
"Cara?" called Draco in hesitation. Carina pulled her eyes away from the window, her blue eyes facing his grey ones "Is there something that you want to tell me?"
Carina shut back in her seat as she asked "Did you see father leaving with a black textbook yesterday?"
Draco stared at her confused "No, why?"
Carina sighed and frowned " I went back to get that book at night and it was gone."
Draco's eyes widened " Are you out of your mind?" he yelled "What if father had found you? Do you even understand what kind of trouble you almost put yourself in?"
Carina rolled her eyes and dismissed his worries "Calm down, Dray. I made sure everyone was asleep."
Draco scowled "Keep doing things like that, your Gryffindor is showing." he taunted.
Carina scoffed at him "Sorry dear, one hundred percent Slytherin here!"
Draco smirked egging his sister. "Well then brother, I guess someone doesn't want the Falmouth Falcons robes this year for Christmas accompanied with the player's autographs." said Carina.
Draco gaped at her " You're kidding? How did you do that?"
Carina smiled sweetly at her brother "I have my ways." she replied while she winked and laughed at his annoyed expression.
"Well, look at that! Carina Malfoy our resident ice-queen is laughing!" A male voice joked as he entered inside.
The twins' heads turned towards the voice, the familiar tall, dark-haired and bright grey eyes fourth year Hufflepuff known as Cedric Diggory smiled charmingly at them. Carina nodded in acknowledgment and Draco's eyebrows quirked up.
"Cedric." said politely Carina ignoring her brother's dumbfound expression.
Cedric grinned "First names already? Good, that means you are willing to become friends." he then turned to Draco extending his right hand "Cedric Diggory, you must Draco Malfoy." Draco nodded and returned his handshake. Cedric took a seat next to Draco and smiled at them.
After his conversation with Carina in the bookstore, Cedric began to wonder what it would feel like if the unapproachable Malfoy twins trusted him as did with each other. Everybody in Hufflepuff, and the other Houses, admired and some even envied the strong loyalty and compassion that the Malfoy twins held for each other. However, as he was thinking, he realized that Draco and Carina Malfoy were cautious with other people, they did not have any friends just followers and admirers.
He began to pity them, it was known that the Malfoy family were like royalties in the pureblood community and all the Slytherins, even the older ones seem like they wanted to win their favors. Cedric remembered watching them from afar and he could see that under those pureblood features they truly felt alone, as if they had no one but each other and sadly that was almost true. Blame his Hufflepuff heart, but he was determined to be their friend even though he is certain that he will get frowned at by his other friends in his House. He was determined to make them see the world in a different view from the ones that they were growing into.
"So what are yo talking about?" asked Cedric.
"Well, Draco here was about to begin rambling about Falmouth Falcons." Carina answered looking bored.
Cedric seemed surprised and turned at the younger boy who was silently glaring at his sister "You're also a Falcons fan?"
Draco stared at him shocked "Also? You like Falmouth Falcons? Aren't they a little rough for Hufflepuff?" asked kind of rudely Draco and immediately looked guiltily at the older boy who just smiled in returned.
"Good Quidditch is good Quidditch." he commented.
While the boys started to discuss about their favourite Quidditch team, Carina once again looked outside of the window and as she enjoyed the scenery she lost herself in her thoughts. She was absolutely sure that the black textbook was the diary that her brother told her about yet it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary. Although, she knew that her father kept only dark artifacts inside his office but she could not understand how could that thing help revive the so called Dark Lord.
As she gazed outside she noticed something flying close to the train and let me tell you, it was not a bird.
"Bloody hell!" she whispered as she sat up to see more clearly "What is that thing?"she asked out loud forcing the boys to stop talking and also stare out of the window.
"I believe that is called a car." answered Cedric as he stood between the twins.
"A car? What is a car?" asked Draco turning to Cedric.
"A muggle transportation." he relied before turning his eyes once again at the flying car "But it shouldn't be capable of flying. That's what airplanes are for." he pointed out.
Then Carina glanced at him in confusion "And what are earplans?"
Cedric chuckled "Air-planes. Once again a muggle transportation but via sky."
Draco studied him "How do you know these things?"
Cedric shrugged his shoulders "I have an uncle whose married to a muggleborn and I happen to take muggle studies. Believe me, an easy O."
Draco nodded as he turned to the window without any sort of remark which surprised Cedric, he took it as a good sing that the male Malfoy was starting to accept him.
"Is that Potter?" pointed Draco at the car.
And indeed it was Harry Potter holding the car's door handle, hoping not to fall. Carina felt her heart freeze in fear, she opened the window, pulled her wand and shouted hoping that it would hit it's mark "Wingardium Leviosa!" and Potter with a little help was back in the car.
Carina closed the window and scowled "That boy! Wherever he goes trouble follows him!" and she sat down once again. Draco and Cedric glanced at each other in bewilderment, they just shrugged and want back to their previous discussion choosing not to question the girl.
An hour later when they finally reached Hogwarts, the Malfoy twins and Cedric were walking towards the carriages. Draco and Carina Malfoy were not like Cedric imagined them to be, Draco even though he was a spoiled-rude brat he also very intelligent fellow and he obviously adored his sister that if anyone asked him to jump off the cliff for his sister he would do it without any second thought. He was just a misunderstood kid who only wanted to be accepted and Cedric knew that with the right approach he could see beyond his father's eyes. Carina was a stern girl that sometimes she reminded Cedric of McGonagall, she brilliant and behaved like she was much older than a twelve-year-old but he knew that she protects her own like a lion protects it's cub. God have mercy on the ones that could try to hurt her brother.
"Cedric," spoke Carina "I believe it would be the best if we meet our housemates to the carriages."
Cedric nodded in agreement and smiled "Of course, then we will meet tomorrow at the library?" he asked.
Draco nodded "As we planned." he replied.
As Cedric began to walk away he heard Draco calling him. He turned and watch amused as the second year boy hesitated and awkwardly rubbing his neck "You're alright for a not-Slytherin." and he left following his sister.
Cedric smiled slightly. He was growing on them as they were growing on him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carina was sitting quietly as she watched Pansy Parkinson trying and failing miserably to gain her brother's attention. She noticed Daphne Greengrass glancing every now and then towards Theodore Nott who was talking with Draco and Blaise Zabini who also gazed too much towards Carina.
Draco sneered and glared darkly at the boy "I advise you not to be growing any sort of crush towards my sister because you won't like what I'll do to you." he whispered urging Blaise's eyes away from the petite girl.
"Did you hear?" Pansy jumped in her seat but at once stopped when Carina narrowed her eyes at her. She gulped "Potter and Weasley were seen in that thing by muggles! They're going to get expelled!" she said excited.
Carina could never understand how is that girl always is the first to know about latest gossips. In fact, she usually is the one to spread rumors around the school, especially if it's about the Golden Trio and most importantly the Potter one in order to please Draco.
"Really? Expel Boy Wonder? Yeah right." Draco rolled his eyes.
"Expelled or not, he's surely going to get into trouble." Theo pointed out.
Carina wanted to roll her eyes. It's getting really old that in almost every single conversation his name pops out. It seems as if the Slytherins have nothing better to do that talk about Potter.
"By the way Carina, I love your hair." gushed Pansy and Carina just hummed.
"Why did you decide to cut it?" Blaise asked.
Carina's cold blue yes glanced at him before stating "Because I felt like it."
Once the carriage stopped, Draco was the first to get off then he extended his hand for his sister which she took to help her walk down off the carriage. They walked forward ignoring Parkinson who was eagerly waiting for Draco to also help her. As they were walking Carina's eyes caught the wild bushy hair of Granger who was alone. Carina told her brother to move ahead and she walked forward to reach beside Hermione.
"Malfoy!" said Hermione seeing the Slytherin badge on her robes.
"Granger." replied in a monotone voice Carina.
"What are you doing here?" asked Hermione who was happy that she wasn't alone again because of Harry and Ron's absence.
"Walking to school." answered Carina stating the obvious.
Hermione knew not to push the girl so she asked "Aren't you excited that Gilderoy Lockhart will be teaching us this year?"
Carina scowled and said "Yes because Hogwarts needs another incompetent fool to teach us. Merlin, he must be worse than Quirrell."
Hermione gasped outrageously "Incompetent? Have you not read his books?"
"Of course I have. They actually have some good information if we ignore his self esteem notes. Who cares what his favourite color is?" she scoffed.
"Again his adventures-" Hermione started before getting interrupted by Carina "He says he's done. Granger you're a smart girl don't fall with the others in the category."
Hermione huffed "So what kind of subjects will you be taking next year?"
Carina's right eyebrow quirked up as she glanced at the other girl in amusement "We haven't even started our second year and you're already thinking ahead for third?" she said making Hermione blush.
Carina softly chuckled and Hermione being close was the by one to hear her."I'll be taking Ancient Runes, Arithmancy and Care of Magical Creatures."
"Really? What about Muggle Studies or Divination?"
"Granger you do know that we are only allowed to take two or three subjects, right? Anyway, I don't believe that these subjects suit girls like us." she answered.
Hermione who seemed not to understand asked "Why not?"
Carina sighed "One, Divination is a useless subject that it has nothing to do with magic. The Professor is actually a fraud and true seers are really extinct, almost out of this earth. True seers prefer to disappear in order not to be used, so most of them behave like muggles. Let's not mention that the subject is only taken by the ones that want an easy O. Slytherins do not do things in the easy way, illegal, yes but not easy." she commented.
"Now Muggle Studies, Granger you're a muggleborn I'm sure that you could teach that class. However, Slytherins because of our upbringing will sooner choose to fight the giant squid than take this subject." Carina finished.
As they reached the huge doors of the Great Hall that Carina so much missed she heard Hermione question her "What about you? Would you take the subject?"
Carina stopped to look at her "Is it true that cars are means of transportation for muggles."
Hermione with a soft smile nodded "Yes, they take us from place to place, it can take about a five minute trip or even hours."
"Hours?" Carina wondered "What's the longest trip you've ever taken?"
Hermione paused to think "By car about six hours but at least we got to pizza."
"Pizza? What is pizza?" Carina asked.
"Pizza is a muggle food, it comes from Italy." Hermione replied.
"Is it tasty?"
"A little unhealthy but it's delicious." she said with a smile.
Carina nodded at her "People are saying that Potter and Weasley are going to get expelled. I'll see you later Granger."
Hermione shook her head amused. Carina Malfoy was curious about muggle stuff, who would have thought? Hermione cannot wait to tell Harry and Ron about her new found discovery their faces will be priceless. Then slowly Carina's last words registered in Hermione's mind.
"WHAT!" she shrieked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning Carina saw Harry Potter and Ron Weasley sitting in the Gryffindor table as she was walking towards the Slytherin table with Draco by her side. They sat as always opposite each other, they sat quietly eating and a little nervous since Marcus Flint just informed them that Quidditch try out were today.
"What's wrong with my twins?" asked a familiar face.
They both raised their head and smiled lightly gaining the attention of the Great Hall, even the teachers stared in shock seeing the older Hufflepuff talking with the Silver Duo.
"Cedric!" grinned Draco.
"Would you like to sit?" asked politely Carina making the Slytherins gape at her.
Cedric smiled amused when the younger boy glared at a chubby kid beside him to make room for him in order to seat and he did.
"So what's with the long faces?" he once again asked.
Draco glared around the Hall and spat "What are you all looking at?" and at once almost everyone turned away.
Cedric eyebrows shot up and said entertained "How come a mare second year has so much power over people?"
Draco smirked "The perks of being a Malfoy."
Cedric shook his head as he chuckled and stared at Carina "Are you going to answer me?"
Carina just shrugged as she replied "Today is Slytherin's Quidditch try outs."
Cedric stared open-mouthed at her "You play Quidditch? No offense, I already guessed that Draco plays but you Carina?"
"Cara isn't really into Quidditch as much as I am but she is a great player." Draco replied while ate a toast then passed the plate to Cedric to eat one.
"I do enjoy flying." she pointed.
"So what positions?" questioned Cedric while he took a bite.
"Draco for Beater and I for Seeker, pumpkin juice?" Carina offered and filled the boys goblets while they nodded.
Cedric laughed and ruffled Draco's hair who blushed at the sudden display of affection making Carina smile as she took a sip of goblet "Little Draco? A Beater?"
Draco growled " Hey! I happen to have a good aim!" and Cedric burst into laughter as Carina also let out a soft laugh.
Meanwhile a certain Gryffindor know as the Boy-Who-Lived was gaping towards the Slytherin table watching Carina laughing with the unkown boy. Harry Potter could not help but glare at the older Hufflepuff who was talking with the Malfoy twins as if they were old friends. He is absolutely sure that those three didn't even know each other the year before, so how in the name of Merlin did they meet and become close friends?
"Who is that?" Harry asked Hermione and Ron while pointing to the boy with the yellow-black robes among the greens.
Ron was too busy stuffing his face with food and Hermione was inspecting the schedule they were given by McGonagall. They just shrugged and continue doing what they were doing before. Harry then turned to the Weasley twins and repeated the question.
"That is Cedric Diggory, a fourth year Hufflepuff Seeker. He is alright but now that I see him with the Slytherin twins I'm not so sure." replied Fred.
At that moment, something large and grey fell into Hermione's milk jug, spraying the all with milk and feathers.
"Errol!" said Ron. The owl was unconscious with his legs in the air and a red envelope in his beak. Ron's eyes widened and he felt a rush of terror in his veins.
"Oh no!" Ron gasped.
"It's alright, he's still alive." said Hermione, prodding Errol gently with the tips of her fingers.
"It's not that it's that!" Ron was pointing at the red envelope.
"What's the matter?"asked Harry.
"Hey Weasley got himself a Howler!" yelled Seamus Finnigan gaining every single person in the Great Hall attention.
"Well, this is going to be funny." smirked cruelly Draco as Carina shook her head and Cedric smiled sympathetically at the Gryffindor table. A Howler, the most horrible thing in the world. This is going to be embarrassing.
"You better open it Ron" said timidly Neville "It'll be worse if you don't. My gran sent me one once and I ignored it and..." he gulped "It was horrible,"
Harry looked a their petrified faces then at the red envelope "What's a Howler?"
Seamus grinned "You'll find out."
The letter began to smoke at the corners.
"Do you think he'll ignore it?" wondered Cedric.
"That would be a dumb decision." answered Carina.
"Weasel is not exactly known to make right decisions is he?" mocked Draco.
"Open it." urged Neville "It'll be over in a few minutes."
Ron gulped as he stretched his hand towards the letter. In a second, a roar of anger filled the huge hall.
"STEALING THE CAR! I WOUND'T BE SURPRISED IF THEY'D EXPEL YOU! YOU WAIT TILL I GET HOLD OF YOU! I DON'T SUPPOSE YOU STOPPED TO THINK WHAT YOUR FATHER AND I WENT TROUGH WHEN WE SAW IT GONE!-"
Mrs. Weasleys yells made the plates and spoons rattle even on the other House's tables as her voice echoed off the stone walls. Carina was amazed that she could feel the Slytherin table shake above her.
"-LETTER FROM DUMBLEDORE LAST NIGHT I THOUGHT YOUR FATHER WOULD DIE OF SHAME! WE DIDN'T BRING YOU UP TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS! YOU AND HARRY COULD HAVE DIED!-"
The noise was making Carina's head throb with pain, she took a mental note to see Madam Pomfrey before classes begin.
"-ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED! YOUR FATHER'S IS FACING AN INQUIRY AT WORK AND IT'S ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT ! IF YOU PUT ANOTHER TOE OUT OF THE LINE WE'LL BRING YOU STRAIGHT BACK HOME." then the red envelope turned to the youngest Weasley and with a sweet voice it said "Congratulations for making Gryffindor Ginny dear we are so proud of you."
A ringing silence fell as everyone watched the letter burst into flames. The Slytherins began to laugh loudly, Draco was about to join then and even make a jeering comment but decided against it when he met Carina's narrowed eyes and Cedric's disapproving look.
"Cedric! Come on!" a Hufflepuff shouted as he stood up from the Hufflepuff table.
"Coming!" replied Cedric "So what time shall we meet in the library?" he asked the twins.
"How about seven? Try outs start at four so it'll be over by then." said Draco.
"Alright then, I'll see you later guys." waved Cedric.
"Bye." the twins waved back. When they sat up to make their way to their first class, the rest of the Slytherins were staring intensely at them but they wavered their gazes at the second Carina's glaring eyes met theirs.
"Do not say a word." she ordered.
"So what class do we have first?"asked Daphne.
"Transfiguration with Ravenclaw." replied Theo.
"Agh, Ravenclaws." thought Carina in distaste.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once the first class was over the second year Slytherins were walking towards the Defense Against Dark Arts. Carina was treading to have a lesson with that awful pig Lockhart. Draco was complaining since they shared this class with Gryffindors as well as Potions, the other boys were listening him while the girls, not Carina of course, were giggling over their D.A.D.A. Professor.
As they were across the courtyard they saw Potter and Co. with an unfamiliar Gryffindor boy holding a camera while he talked "- my dad's milkman, he couldn't believe it either. So I'm taking a loads of pictures to send them to him and it'd be really good if I had one of you! Maybe one of your friends could take it and I could stand next to you? And then, could you sign it?"
Carina cursed that boy inside her mind knowing her brother she could see what was to come. So she sighed and stood still quietly in the back of the group until it was time for her interference.
"Signed photos? Your giving signed photos Potter?" Draco's voice carried around the courtyard stopping right behind the unkown boy. Harry's eyes briefly met Carina's.
"Everyone line up!" Draco roared into the crowd "Harry Potter's giving out signed photos!"
"Shut up, Malfoy!" snapped Harry.
"You're just jealous!" piped up the camera kid. Carina put her hand on her face as she shook her head. Dumb, dumb boy. You shouldn't play with fire.
"Jealous?" sneered her brother. He did not need to shout anymore, most of the courtyard was listening "Of what? I don't want a foul scar right across my head, thanks. I don't think getting your head cut open makes you that special." he said making all the Slytherins but Carina snicker. Harry was glad that she didn't.
"Eat slugs Malfoy." said Ron angrily and Carina took out her want ready to charge him if he makes the idiotic choice to attack Draco when she just standing right here.
"Be careful Weasley." warned Draco "You don't want to start any trouble or your mummy will have to come and take you away from school." he put on a high-pitched and piercing voice "If you put another toe out of line!"
A group of fifth year Slytherins nearby laughed loudly. Carina saw that it was getting out of control so she started to take steps forward to reach her brother.
"Weasley would like a signed photo Potter" smirked Draco "It'll be-"
"Enough!" snapped Carina who now stood between Harry and Draco as her gaze was glaring to the grey orbs of her brother. Then her dark eyes went to the older Slytherins who at once stopped laughing and stood there watching the young girl.
"Don't you have a class to get into?" her tone harsh and her face expressionless made them slowly back away and leave, many others followed. Now it was only the second year Slytherins, the Golden Trio and the other boy."
"What's all this?" Lockhart's voice was heard as he himself was striding towards them. Carina closed her eyes and sighed in annoyance. Well, that's just great. Note o sarcasm.
"Harry Potter is giving out signed photos sir." said Draco quickly.
"Shouldn't have asked." replied Lockhart jovially. He flung his arm around Potter's shoulders"We meet again Harry!" he spoke while pinning him to his side a Carina grabbed roughly her brother, sliding them back and making their way to class.
"Did you see his face?" grinned Draco. Carina was not amused and Draco's grin was immediately dropped off his face, he choose to shut his mouth not to make things worse.
When they finally reached the classroom, Carina observed that the front seats were occupied by female students. She rolled her eyes and went to sit in the middle of the row. The Slytherins understanding that miss Malfoy was not in a good mood, they wisely decided to move away from her, even Draco.
Carina much to her irritation took all seven of Lockhart's books along with a potion book in fort of her to read while she was waiting for him to appear or even during the lesson.
After some minutes the Golden Trio and the rest of the Gryffindors arrived closely followed by Lockhart. When Harry looked around and realized that there was an open seat beside Carina, he sprint towards her not seeing the exchange between Hermione and Ron as they walked behind him.
"May I sit here?" Harry kindly asked ignoring her brother's glare from the other side. Carina raised her head for a moment from her book to glance at Harry's glinting emerald eyes and she turned away, nodding her head and gesturing him to sit. Hermione and Ron sat behind them grinning with a knowing look at Harry.
As Lockhart was waiting for the students to take heir seas, Harry spoke "Malfoy?"
"Potter." replied Carina as she read her book.
"Thank you for stopping your brother." he said sincerely gazing at her.
"I'm getting used to hear you thanking me for ever little thing I do." she commented as she read.
Harry started feel nervous "About those photos... I didn't offer to sign them or even take them." he talked quickly.
Carina let a chuckle and slightly smirked, still not raising her head from the book "Potter, you're a lot of things but an attention seeker is not one of them." she said and Harry felt his back of his neck getting red.
"The camera Colin was holding was a muggle one." stated Harry and Carina just hummed then he continued "Muggle photographs do not move."
Carina paused, she raised her head slowly her gaze meeting his and Harry felt himself not being able to breath. Her blue eyes had a curious glint in them that reminded Harry of the blue sky. He liked them as much as they were angry when her eyes would blaze of fury that would light them up as if they were on fire.
Carina leaned in and wondered "They do not?" Harry just nodded and as he was about to speak, Lockhart cleared his throat loudly and silence fell. Now, Harry wants to hex his hair off.
Lockhart reached forward, picked up Neville's copy of Travels with Trolls and held it up to show his own, winking portrait on the front.
"Me," he said pointing at and winking as well " Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five times winner of Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award. But I don't talk about that; I didn't get rid of the Banden Banshee by smiling at her!"
He waited for them to laugh, a few smiled weakly and Carina just wanted this class to be over.
"I see you've all bought a complete set of my books, well done1 I thought we'd start today with a little quiz. Nothing to worry about, just to check how well you've read them, how much you've taken in." he paused as he handed out the rest of the test papers, he returned to the front of the class and said "You have thirty minutes. Start now!"
Carina looked down at her paper and read;
1. What is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite colour?
2. What is Gilderoy Lockhart's secret ambition?
3. What, in you opinion, is Gilderoy Lockhart's greatest achievement to date?
On and on it went, over three sides of paper, right down to;
54. When is Gilderoy Lockhart's birthday, and what would his ideal gift
Half an hour later, as Carina was feeling as if she was getting stupider and stupider Lockhart collected the papers and rifted through them in front of the class.
"Tut, tut. Hardly any of you remembered that my favourite color is lilac. I say so in the Year with the Yeti and a few of you need to read Wandering with Werewolves more carefully. I clearly state in chapter twelve that my ideal gift would be harmony between all magic and non magic people! Though I wouldn't say no to a large bottle of Ogden's Old Firewhisky,"
He gave them another wink and Carina was staring to think about a spell that can make someone's eyes disappear without them knowing. Too bad that spell doesn't exist.
"...But Miss Hermione Granger and Carina Malfoy knew that my secret ambition is to rid of the world evil. Good girls! Full marks! Where are Hermione Granger and Carina Malfoy?"
Hermione raised her trembling hand as Carina did but with an indifferent expression.
"Excellent!' beamed Lockhart "Quite excellent! Take ten points for Gryffindor and Slytherin each!"
Harry leaned and whispered ''I didn't know you were a fan."
Carina scoffed "I'm not. I detest him but I've read his books, so blame my excellent memory." she murmured back.
Lockhart bent down behind his desk and lifted a large covered cage onto it.
"Now be warned! It is my job to arm you against the foulest creatures known to wizard kind. You may find yourselves facing your worst fears in this room. Know only that no harm can befall you whilst I am here! All I ask you is that you remain calm."
A dead silence then followed.
"I must ask you not to scream"said Lockhart loudly "It might provoke them."
As Carina stared at him bored he whipped of the cover.
"Yes." he said dramatically "Freshly caught Cornish pixies."
Carina heard someone snort of laughter that even Lockhart couldn't mistake it for a scream of terror. He is that much of an idiot... Wait...
"Yes?" he smiled at Seamus Finnigan.
"Well, they are not really that dangerous, are they?"
"Don't be so sure!" spoke Lockhart waggling a finger annoyingly at him "Devilish tricky little blighters they can be!"
The pixies were blue and about eight inches in height with pointed faces and shrill voices.
"Right the!" Lockhart yelled "Let's see what you make of the!" and he opened the cage. Everything went downhill.
The pixies shot out in every direction like rockets. Carina felt Harry pulling her down under the desk. Two of them seized Neville by the ears and lifted him into the air. They wretched the classroom. They grabbed ink bottles and sprayed the class, shredded books and threw them out of the window. There goes Carina's book. Half of the class was sheltering under the desks and Neville was swinging from the iron chandelier in he ceiling.
"Come on now! Round them up, round them up!" They're only pixies!" shouted Lockhart as he rolled his sleeves, took out his wand and yelled "Peskipiski Pesternomi!"
"Bloody hell! Idiotic man!" cursed Carina as she watched one of the pixies grabbing his wand and throwing it out of the window. The man gulped and dived under his own desk.
"Unbelievable." she grabbed her own wand and started to get up, Harry grabbed her hand and hissed "What are you doing?"
Carina gave him a deadpanned look and said "Trust me on this."
She got up, pointed her wand at the pixies and screamed "Immobulus!" and the pixies froze.
The bell rang and there was a mad rush towards the exit. Carina saw her brother running to her direction.
"Cara!" he sighed in relief as he noted that she was not hurt "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, not even a scratch, you?" she questioned him.
"I'm fine too." he responded then scowled at Potter who was right beside her "Let's get out of here." he said while grabbing her arm and pulling her away.
However, she stopped turned and stared at Harry "Now it's my turn to thank you. Thank you for trying to protect me." she said gently making Harry blush slightly then she turned to Hermione.
"Do you still believe that he is not incompetent?" and she walked away with her brother.
