**Three days later**

"So what did you want to talk about?" Caroline asked.

 "Well blondie, I think you know exactly what I want to talk about" Damon smirked. 

Damon had come to Caroline's apartment early this morning knocking and knocking on the door. Poor girl who she was having a peaceful sleep in the arms of Morpheus, needed to change within fifteen minutes and had breakfast with him.

"I have no idea" she sighed chewing her food in her mouth.

 "I have heard the Mikaelson was in town" he said getting finally Caroline's attention.

 "So?" she asked him. 

"It seems Elijah Mikaelson is still in love with Stefan's beloved Katherine" Damon said through gritted teeth.

She completely understood Damon, Stefan was his only brother and he didn't want him to be hurt especially not by a woman. Truth to be told, Caroline envied Damon and Stefan's relationship. She didn't have any brother.

Their bond was like streetlights along the road, they didn't make the distance any shorter but the lighted up the path and made the walk worthwhile. Their path may change as lives go along, but their bond as brothers will remain forever strong.

Honestly Caroline, didn't know what to say. She could not just say

  'you are absolutely right. He's still in love with Kat but the great part is that Katherine thinks she is still in love him'. 

She thought that better to keep her mouth shut rather than said something that she totally didn't mean.

Katherine was her girl's best friend and Damon and Stefan were her boy's best friends. She couldn't choose sides. She didn't want to hurt either of them.

"Stefan proposed Katherine yesterday" Damon said in a monotone voice making Caroline spilt her coffee on the floor

 "What?"

"Stefan proposed Kat yesterday" he repeated his question.

 The worst thing she feared had come. Stefan and Katherine had been together for 1 years. At first, she didn't think that they would last but when months went on like a flash, she was happy for both of them. As she quotes it

  'you guys are soulmates. Your love is so epic'.

But with the coming of the Mikaelson, everything in their lives had changed.

 "What was Katherine's answer?" Caroline asked in a low voice.

 "What would you think it was huh?" Damon said exasperating.

"She said Stefan I'm sorry but I don't know what to say. It's so sweet of you but I don't think am ready for a marriage. I love you but I just need time. Try to understand" he said imitating Katherine voice.

If that would have been in another situation Damon was imitating Kat voice, she would have burst of laughing.

"And the part which angered me the most was that she just ran away like a coward. If she still have feelings for Elijah, then she needed to tell my little brother that she wasn't in love with him anymore" Damon displeased.

"I'm really sorry Damon. I will try to talk with Katherine and solve this out" she said holding her hand showing that she cared.

 "There's no use" Damon removed his hand from hers. 

"What do you mean?" Caroline asked confused. 

"I think I'm going to visit Elijah Mikaelson" he smirked.

**At the Mikaelson's Mansion**

"Elijah, your father and I are going for a business trip and will come back within two or three days. Meanwhile I hoped that you take good care of your brothers and sister" Ester said fixing her hair.

"I promise you mother. There would be no issue during your absence" he said making Kol laughed.

"Ahh! The noble Elijah speaking" kol mocked.

 "Shut up Kol" Klaus said annoyingly and then his sister added her part

 "You don't see we are not interested into your stupid talks. Keep that mouth shut"

"You wound me, sister and me who thought that you like my mouth" Kol said pretending to be hurt.

After a few minutes, they were all sitting in the living room doing what they usually do. Elijah was reading, Kol was playing, Rebekah was texting someone probably her new boyfriend and Klaus was painting.

"I think it's not fair" Kol said loudly.

 "What's not fair?" Rebekah asked. 

"Nik has a new girl and so does Elijah but me I'm still single" Kol pouted.

 "Who might these girls be to have fallen under their charms" she raised an eyebrows.

"I think Nik is obsessed with Caroline and Elijah is madly in love with Katerina" Kol said drinking his whiskey directly from the bottle.

 "The Katerina" Rebekah didn't believe her eyes what Kol had just said.

 "The Katerina" he repeated amused watching how Elijah was tense at Katherine's name.

"And who might that Caroline be?" she asked curiously. 

"None of your business, bekah" Klaus said not removing his eyes form his sketchpad.

 "Wait a second....she's the girl from your paintings"

He didn't answer her question. They were all interrupted by a tumultuous sound coming from the entry. 

"What the hell was that?" Rebekah miffed.

 "John, do you mind checking whose knocking on our door like a crazy" Elijah ordered a servant.

 "Yes sir" he replied turning away.

"How can I help you" John asked when he had opened the door of the mansion.

 "Is Elijah here?" Damon asked in a pettish way.

 "He's with his family and I believe he doesn't want to be interru-"Damon cut him off by pushing his aside and stepping in the hall.

"Elijah Mikaelson, show me your face" he yelled.

 Damon was so mad at what Katherine did and the worst part it was all because of those Mikaelson. Damon had always lived with a moral since he was a child. 

'Success to me is being together as brothers and still looking out for each other'

"Damon Salvatore! Do what I owe this pleasure" Elijah said making his entry.

 "You know why I'm here" Damon said sarcastically.

 "Take a seat" Elijah said showing him the way to the living room where the rest of his family were.

"I think it's great time, you let Katherine go Elijah" Damon said making Kol chuckled and a smile spread on Klaus' face.

 "Stefan had proposed Katherine yesterday"

"What?" Elijah's eyes went wide but he quickly composed himself.

 "And she refused. Both you and I are here now why" Damon said annoyingly. 

"That's why I want you out of her life"

"Salvatore, you must know one thing us Mikaelson don't give up until what we want is ours. I'm sorry you came all the way here for nothing" Kol said amused by the whole situation.

"I'm really sorry Damon but if Katherine has still some feelings for me, I will make her mine certainly" Elijah said fixing his tie.

 Elijah heard the sinking thud as Damon's fist collided with his stomach. It felt like a bulwark dropped on him. The force of his blow knocked him back a few steps, his feet as dizzy as his mind. 

"What the hell?" Elijah said angrily.

**Meanwhile**

Caroline was running towards the Mikaelson's residence. She knew that Damon would do something reckless and that's why she needed to be there without losing any time further. But she alone couldn't stop Damon, she needed someone who would make Damon understand. So she called the only person she thought about.

"Caroline! Hi"

"Hi Stefan, Are you busy" Caroline asked. 

"Not at all. Is there anything I could do for you" Stefan asked.

 "It's Damon. He told me about well....you and Katherine" Caroline whispered.

 She didn't want to have this conversation with Stefan right now.

 "What did he do again?" Caroline heard Stefan letting out a breath.

"He kinda went to the Mikaelson" Caroline said quickly.

 "What?" he exclaimed and added

 "I'll be right there" and then he hung up. Caroline groaned 

"What did I do to deserve a day like that?"

A few minutes later, Stefan arrived and rushed to Caroline who was pacing right and left deciding whether she should enter or not.

 "Where is he?" Stefan asked.

 "Inside" that's all she said.

When both Stefan and Caroline entered, they heard shouting. Caroline heard 

"Oh shut up Mikaelson! You are all the same, trying to steal someone's girls"

"Damon" Stefan said quietly making all heads to turn at him.

 "One more Salvatore, when will this drama be finally over" Rebekah said with a sarcastic tone. 

"Stefan" Klaus said tired of watching that scene. 

"Stefan I'm sorry for what happened between you and Katerina. I know that you loved her very much but......" Elijah said.

"Oh shut up" Damon said grabbing Elijah's collar causing Klaus to step between his brother and the mad Salvatore.

 "Damon, I think it's enough. Let it be" Stefan said quietly. 

He was still processing everything, hurt could be seen in his eyes.

It hurts the worst when the person that made you feel so special yesterday, makes you feel so unwanted today....

"Let it be! You can't be seriously Stef" Damon said.

 "Damon, Stefan is right. I don't think we should interfere in his life. That's a matter which need to be solve between him and Katherine. Try to understand making a fight with Elijah won't help anything. You and I both know that" Caroline said making her appearance. She noticed Klaus' gaze on her but she ignored the electric shocks it gave her.

"Blondie you can't be serious too" Damon said throwing his hands in the air.

 "Brother, one of the most beautiful and weirdest thing that happens in life is to fall in love with a person you didn't even notice at the first time you met them. I have known what's like to be in love Damon and I'm grateful for that. You can't predict with whom your destiny lies. Brother" Stefan said hiding the tears forming in his eyes.

The Mikaelson felt sorry for him especially Rebekah. She knew what's like to be rejected.

 "I think I need to go" Stefan said before Caroline had the opportunity to speak.

"Caroline! I'm sorry" Elijah said feeling guilty. 

"It's ok. I understand" she replied in a still way.

 It is so cruel, when the one you love with all your heart, knows what you hunger for but still chooses to starve you. Caroline knew who to blame in all this..........it was Katherine. Even though she didn't realize what was going to happen at first, at least she should have told Stefan about her feeling for Elijah.

One of the cruelest things a person can do is to awaken someone's love without the intention of truly loving them.

"Such a dull day" Rebekah exclaimed.

 Caroline snapped out of her thoughts realizing that she was still at the Mikaelson's manor. 

"I'm sorry for all this mainly for Damon's behavior. I...I think am just to head back" Caroline said suddenly feeling extremely nervous.

"Its OK love, let me accompany you to the door" Klaus proposed putting his hand on her lower back leading them to the door.

 "Are you sure everything is going to be alright, Caroline" Klaus asked concerned.

"I don't know seriously. All this is too much to take. I don't know which one to support Klaus" Caroline said honestly. 

She didn't care whether his siblings were listening. She was just lost and unable to make a good choice.

"I'm not an expert on those kind of things, love but the only thing I can tell you is no matter what happen always support the truth, the thing you find right" 

he advised her stroking her cheeks. He loved doing that.

"Thank you. It means a lot to me" Caroline uttered sincerely.

 "Your welcome, Caroline" Klaus smiled at her heading outside.

She didn't know what to do, go and talk with Damon or comfort Stefan. She had no idea. She was feeling drowsy with all that happened a few hours ago. She opted to go back to her apartment. When she arrived, she was confound to saw Katherine in tears.

 "I'm a horrible person aren't I" Katherine whispered.

Caroline opened her door for her to step in where she cried and cried.

 "I know I was a total bitch with Stefan. He suddenly proposed to me and I was scared" Katherine sobbed.

"Do you love Stefan?" Caroline asked. 

"Yes" Katherine replied. 

"Are you still in love with him" she then asked.

 "No"
