#32: Brotherhood
"We're here." Ryuuga said as he walked out of the elevator. Looking at the left, all he saw was the hallway connecting to more hallways. Looking at the right, it was the same.
"It's a maze." Abbacchio said, looking at the map on the wall. "A very long one at that. It looks like one of those mazes where scientists placed rats into to see how much time they'd take in finding the exit."
"Only difference is that we don't win cheese when we find what we want." Joe sighed. "I should have brought a snack or something... I hope they have some vending machines in here."
"We came here to fight, not to compare ourselves to mice and cheese." Homura huffed, slamming her fists on top of Joe and Abbacchio's heads. "So what's our plan?" She asked, also looking at the map.
"In all honesty, it's all pretty mathematical." Ryuuga said, joining the trio in looking at the map.
"Math? Aight, I dip, see ya." Joe joked.
"Well, think about it. The Arcana has eleven members, three of which aren't fighting and one that we can't fight right away. That leaves us with seven fighters separated in two floors." Ryuuga explained.
"In another words, there's no way we can tell which floor has the lesser number of fighters, right?" Abbacchio asked.
"Pretty much." Ryuuga nodded. "If we were to assume, then it would be the fourth floor, since two of it's fighters are tag fighting."
"Or it could all be bullshit coming out of that kid's mouth." Homura grunted. "Let's be honest, no one here would be surprised if Mayuri was lying. He didn't exactly show proof of freely handing out info. Last time he gave us something to work with, we had to humiliate him at an airport."
"I'm sorry, which part of humiliate him at an airport are we talking about? The time he died to a big bird or the time he got thrown into a van?" Joe laughed.
"Stop trying to be funny." Homura replied, grinding Joe's head with her fist.
"Well, that's also true. But on the other hand, since only three fighting rooms are being used on the other floor, we can also assume it's the same for this one. If you want me to stretch things even more, with this being the higher floor, you can go and say that the big numbers are here, like The Empress, The Emperor or the Moon. Either way, it's safe to assume that at least one of us will most likely find an empty room with an elevator to Gin."
Abbacchio nodded. "I see. Well, there's no point in dwelling on doubt. Me and Joe will head to the left, you two head to the right."
"Right. Good luck, you two." Ryuuga replied.
(Opening)
"Right. Good luck, you two." Ryuuga replied.
"Same with you two. Let's get going, Waluigi. Know when you're getting into Smash?" Joe asked as he and Abbacchio started running down the left side of the hallway.
"On second thought, I miss it when you were quiet while having a mental civil war." Abbacchio smirked.
"Come on dude, don't do me like that." Joe replied, smirking aswell as he ran next to Abbacchio. "What would be of me without Abbacchibro?" He asked.
"I've been called weirder things." Abbacchio replied. Putting a stop to his running when the two reached the end of the current hallway, where their path split into two different ones, Abbacchio looked down on Joe. "Do me a favour." He said.
"What could an upcoming manga writer such as yourself want from me?" Joe asked, in the most sarcastic tone he could.
"If you come across the empty fighting room, or any other room for that matter, turned away and keep looking. Go search for your brother, go make things better." Abbacchio said. Thoug initially his eyes showed seriousness, they soon became much calmer. "One day of self-loathing Joe is enough, alright?"
"Man..." Joe muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. Letting out a sigh, he looked back at Abbacchio with a thumbs up. "It really took just two or so months to gain bro status, didn't it?"
Abbacchio looked away, chuckling to himself. "Now, now. Don't toot your own horn that much." He looked back at Joe, extending to him his left fist. "There are times for serious Abbacchio, and there are times for Abbacchibro."
"Eh, never really took you for the overly wholesome guy. This are overwhelming news." Joe bumped Abbacchio's fist. "But you're a wise guy, so yeah. I'll find Alan. It's about time I took responsibility."
Sharing a final glare and grin, the two yelled. "See you on the other side!" With that said, the two began running into different paths.
"How pitiful, you must have become some type of masochist while in Japan." Alan said with a large grin on his face.
The fighting room belonging to Alan was by far the most extravagant, even more than Mayuri's room, which was filled with rows of shelves with rare cards and trophies. Similar to an actual throne room, Alan's fighting room had a large throne, standing right across the door of the room, on top of a three step stone pedestal, with a section of the floor painted red like a carpet going from the door up to the throne. The walls were filled with frames, either containing paintings or medieval items, such as shields and swords, all that turned the fighting room into an actual throne room of medieval times. Alan sat on the throne, watching Joe go through the maze of the sixth floor using his phone, which was connected with the cameras on the floor.
"Yes, keep running, mouse. Keep running towards your end goal." Alan muttered, his grin growing larger with each word he spoke. "Complete the maze and prove you're not some brainless animal, that'll be some accomplishment for someone like you!" 'Get here to be destroyed, nothing would bring me greater joy in the world!'
While running through the maze of hallways that was the sixth floor, all Joe could do was look back at his life and how it all lead to Alan joining the Arcana, how he was the obvious reason, something he been in denial for more time than he wanted to.
'I started having the idea of coming to Japan around september, after seeing Ryuuga fighting on nationals.' Joe said in his mind as he looked around. 'But Alan was never on my side when it came to it. He always played it of like I was joking, and we even fought over and over again because he said the joke had stopped being funny and I should stop saying it. No matter how many times I said I was serious, he just brushed it off. No matter how much I tried, he never accepted I was leaving.'
"I've said it. I'm leaving. I won't get anything done with my life if I stay stuck here. You should start thinking about what to do with your life too. In no time, you'll be done with high school." Joe said as he closed his suitcase.
"What? You can't actually be serious! I know you talked about leaving and whatnot, but I never imagined you would actually go on with it!" Alan exclaimed.
"You know I was never joking about it. Now is the ideal moment to leave. I'm sorry bro, but you can't try to change my mind. I've made up my decision." Joe replied, walking past Alan and leaving the room with his suitcase in hand.
"Don't leave! You can't!" Alan exclaimed as he looked back.
"Goodbye, little brother."
"Please, don't leave! Please!" Alan fell to his knees, slamming his fists on the floor. "I beg you, don't leave! Don't... Don't leave..."
"I'm starting to get bored of waiting." Alan said, letting out a sigh. On his phone, he opened an app that connected him to the illumination system of the sixth floor. Turning off some lights and turning on some other, he crafted a path that lead straight to his fighting room. "I know you're dumb, but even coackroaches know how to follow lights."
At the same time Alan created a path for his brother, Joe encountered himself at a point where the path split into two, a lightless one and one where the lights were still on. Looking at the illuminated path, Joe looked at the ceiling of the hallway.
"If it were anyone else, then this would be you trying to throw us off. But I know you, Alan, and I know that you're dying to beat me. Thank you for the path that will lead me to saving you!" Joe exclaimed as he began running through the illuminated path.
"You? Save me?" Alan grit his teeth, throwing away his tablet. "You insolent piece of human shit! Don't get your head too far up your ass, you waste!"
By the time Joe arrived at the dead end that lead to Alan's fighting room, most of the rest of the group was yet to find something. By that time, Emon and Masato had already started their fights, but as for the rest, everyone else was still seeking a member of the Arcana.
'You lead me straight to you, Alan. For more that I'd like to think that it was because you wanted me to help you, I know that's not the case, so all I can keep doing is being an ignorant fool, like you say I am.' Joe thought. Taking one last deep breath, he entered the fighting room.
"My, oh my, you actually took the right path." Alan mused, looking down on his older brother from his throne. Resting his face on his right fist, he smugged. "I didn't thought you actually had it in you, even though animals can see the difference between light and dark. A surprise to be sure, but like any person who sees an animal doing the right thing, I'm overjoyed."
"Spare me the crap, Alan!" Joe exclaimed. "You know why I'm here, so just drop it!"
"Oh? My, oh my, you're finally speaking for yourself instead of having that friend of yours do the talking for you!" Alan began laughing in happiness. "And that also means that you can finally fight on your own. Good, I've been waiting for this moment ever since your first left home. What was that you said while running? Saving me? Wouldn't you like to think that?" He asked in a sarcastic tone as he got up from his throne, revealing a small remote on his right hand. Upon clicking one of the buttons, a fighting table began rising from the floor, right on the middle of the room. "If anyone's going to need saving, I can assure you that it's you, that it'll always be you."
"You can say whatever you want, but I'll still fight to save you! It's like you said, I'm an ignorant fool!" Joe replied, taking out his deck case. "And I'm proud of being an ignorant fool! I'm the ignorant fool who'll save his annoying little brother!"
"My, oh my, you really stuck your head up your ass that much." Alan sighed as he began walking down the stairs of the altar where his throne was, taking out his own deck. "When I look back at it, I went easy on your bothersome friend. But now that I'm finally fighting the bothersome pest that is legally my sibling, I can finally have a fight I can enjoy." He said, placing down his deck.
On the other hand, Joe slammed his deck onto his deck zone. "Don't call Abbacchio bothersome, you don't know him that well!"
"My, oh my, you're standing up for someone who ssn't yourself, I'm surprised." Alan mused. "But you're right, I don't know him enough to call him bothersome. However, I know him enough to know that he's a loser who is perfectly fine throwing away what little honour he has left for a waste such as yourself."
"That only means that I got a kickass friend, someone who, like you, I was too quick to judge. The deter-"
"-mination? Are you seriously going to make a determination speech? I thought you couldn't go lower on my list but you keep surprising me, my, oh my, Joe! You truly are the dictionary definition of an utter dumbass!"
"Yes, I am!" Joe proudly exclaimed, even making Alan flinch for a brief moment. "I'm the world's ultimate dumbass, but the world's ultimate dumbass' determination is one he didn't build up on his own, it's one that was supported by someone great! And it's that determiantion that is going to make me win!"
"You? Win...? My, oh fucking my, you really are continuously getting your head deeper and deeper into your own dirty ass..." Alan spoke, looking up at Joe with a twitching eyebrow. "I congratulate you for finally getting a reaction off me, you've honestly pissed me off."
"Good. That's a start. Stand up, my avatar! The white star shining through the cosmos, Neon Messiah! (6000)" Joe's vanguarc circle expanded in white.
"That deck, the deck you only play because the artwork of one card fancies you. Stand up, superior vangard! Barcgal! (6000)" Alan's vanguard circle expanded in light blue.
"Stand and draw. I ride Destiny Dealer! (8000) With his skill, I look at the top card of my deck and call it to the back as a locked card, and then with Neon Messiah's skill, I draw a card. Turn end. Unlock, Destiny Dealer! (8000)"

"Stand and draw." Alan hummed as he looked through his cards. "I'll ride this one. Laurel Knight, Sicilus. (8000) First I'll use Barcgal's skill to draw and obtain a Quick Shield Ticket. Then, I'll use Sicilus' skill to check the top five cards of my deck and add Messianic Lord Blaster from among them to my hand. The rest is shuffled back. Then, I discard my Quick Shield. Now Sicilus attacks. Since I don't have any face up cards in my damage zone, add 5k. (8000>>13000)"

"Stand and draw! White wings that guard all that lives, bring forth the white genesis! The darkness of the universe is put to rest by the awakening of the white star! I ride the vanguard, Harmonics Messiah! (13000)" Joe's vanguard circle exploded in white.
Alan simply waved the cards in his hand. "The unit seen as the god of good on the world of the game, in the hands of someone as pitiful as you. It's truly ironic."
"It really is." Joe nodded. "Imaginary Gift, Force II! I put it on the vanguard. (13000>>13000/2) I also call Sunset Edge, Duskblade! "Stand and draw. Right about now, let's have some fun, shall we?" Alan smirked with plain eyes. "God is dead, fallen from the altar these lower scum spent an eternity building! A new god rises! Ride! Messianic Lord Blaster! (13000)" Alan's vanguard circle exploded in dark blue. "Imaginary Gift, Force I. I put it on the left. Lucious' skill, I put him into the soul and draw one card, then superior call Blaster Dagger from my hand. (8000) I call Blaster Blade (10000>>20000) and Blaster Javelin. (8000) Yeah, that seems enough for now. What would be the fun in just ending it here, right? Boosted by Blaster Dagger, Messianic Lord Blaster attacks. (13000>>21000) God Impulse! Since you were there, I don't have to explain you what's at stake, do I?" Alan asked, smirking.
"You don't have to break a sweat. Cosmo Wreath, complete guard."
"This proves animals can really be taught a thing or two. What was that saying again? Oh yeah. Monkey see, monkey do. Twin drive. (Clearness Angel) No trigger. And the second. (Blaster Dark) Aw man, no trigger. My, oh my, what's this? You don't have ny face up damage? But you drove check Harmonics Messiah, and if you don't have at least a counterblast, you can't do anything useful. Oh lord, what a sad conclusion we arrived at." Alan smiled, letting out a sigh. Then, he rested his two standing rear-guards. "Boosted by Javelin, Blade attacks the rear. And since my vanguard has Blaster in the name, Javelin gains 2k. (20000>>28000>>30000) What will you, Banjoe?"
"Remarkable Burst Monk retires." Joe declared, putting his card on the drop zone.
"And again, animals can be taught. I end my turn there. Please, do something worthwhile, would you? In no time, I'll fall asleep." Alan said, letting out a fake yawn.

"Don't get too over yourself, Alan! This game isn't over yet!"
"It sure feels like it. My, I remember saying you had pissed me off, but now you're the one who looks angry, My, oh my, I would have never said anything if I knew it would lead to this." Alan said, in a mockery-filled tone.
"You don't really get it, do you? I don't care what you say, and in the end, I'm happy that you said it! You're my brother afterall! The fact that you're talking to me after I did you wrong, nothing else brings me such joy!" Joe exclaimed.
"Oh? I see." Using his cards, Alan covered the bottom half of his face, in a similar manner to Hinata using her fan, and behind his cards, Alan grit his teeth. "So that's what you call a poor attempt at mocking me?"
"Alan... Stand and draw! I ride it once again, the awakening white star! Harmonics Messiah! (13000) Imaginary Gift, Force II! I put it on the left front row circle. I also call Black Star of Increase, Balerother! (8000) And then, Blast Monk of the Thundering Foot! (10000>>10000/2) Calderon Wing's skill, I soulblast and lock him to countercharge. Balerother's skill, add 5k. (8000>>13000) Boosted by Duskblade, Harmonics Messiah attacks the vanguard! With his skill, I put down a card as a locked card! And then, Balerother's skill activates again! (13000>>18000) (13000>>21000/2) White Star Collapse!"

"Twin drive! (Destiny Dealer) (Axino Dragon - Critical) A trigger. I put it all on Blast Monk! (10000>>20000/3) Now, Harmonics Messiah's skill! I counterblast and discard a card to unlock all my locked cards! Unlocked, Calderon Wing (7000) and Starhulk, Letaluk! (10000)"
Alan's eyes suddenly widened. 'That card, that freaking card, that disgusting worthless card... You only have it because of Messianic's skill... I lost to it once, I won't lose to it again!' Gaining back his composure, Alan simply smirked again. "My, oh my, a card that counters Messianic Lord Blaster's skill? Never thought you were the one to make good choices."
"When it comes to me, each good choice I make has a setback. Example one, I use Letaluk because of Messianic's skill, but I don't use Lady Battler who could give me more locked cards. And example two, I left to Japan, and left behind my brother without a second thought."
"Do you really believe that trope is going to work? You really think that saying that you feel bad is going to make me cry and suddenly forgive, make me be excited for this game and go 'Give me your best shot, big brother!'? My, my, now that's what a call a solid attempt at mocking me."
"I was super sure it wouldn't, my brother isn't the type of guy to fall over for the mushy things. For each card unlocked, I draw one." Joe said, drawing two cards. "Then my front row gets 15k! (20000>>35000) (10000>>25000) Boosted by Balerother, Letaluk attacks Blaster Blade! (25000>>43000)"
"He retires."
"Boosted by Calderon Wing, Blast Monk attacks the vanguard! (35000>>42000/3)"

"Go ahead and either punch me or push me away. I'm fine with anything you do, little brother. If you want to stay in the Arcana, then go for it! You got my max support, and I'll always be proud of you!"
"How dare you... Leave? You just left without ever looking back, without a care in the world... Was I not a good enough brother?! I looked up to you and you just turned on your back on all of us, shithead! All I wanted was my brother back..."
"I know, it was a really dick move on my part. Instead of just sitting down and explain I was being serious, I just shrugged off all the times you said I was joking. I'm just happy that the path I took lead me back you, little bro." Joe said, letting go from his brother.
"Did you..." Alan grit his teeth and looked the other way. "Did you at least do something useful in Japan?"
"Oh man, do I have the stories to tell you. Do you wanna know about how I beated a grown rich man in card games or how I'm dating a masochist who was previously into our cousin Ryuuga?"
"W-what...?"
"Holy shit, is that a throne? Get your phone, I want a phot of me sitted on it!" Joe exclaimed, running past Alan and sitting himself on the throne. "I am big king Joe, time to go on a crusade!"
"Joe, you crapload! This was never what I meant with wanting my brother back, you dumbnut!"
"Yeah, yeah, just take a photo already, I have to send it to the masochist who will become the aunt of your kids whenever you score with one of the twins downstairs."
"I-i don't think of any of them like that!" Alan exclaimed.
"Sure, sure, I'm sure you'd fall head over heels with the pink haired one. What was her name again? Oh yeah, Iris! Alan and Iris, sitting under a tree, k-i-s-s-i-"
"JOE, I'M GOING TO KILL YOU, YOU SHITHEAD!" Alan yelled, charging towards the throne.
"Oh shit-" Joe began running around the room, with Alan closely following behind. "I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY!"
"OH YOU'LL BE SORRY! SORRY FOR BRINGING A MASOCHIST INTO THE FAMILY!"
"WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO? IT'S NOT MY FAULT MOM ONLY WANTS ME TO DATE THE SUPER POLITE GIRLS!" Joe yelled back.
"YOU'RE CURSED, YOU'RE CURSED WTH HAVING TERRIBLE TASTE IN WOMEN! THE BEST ARE THE POLITE AND PURE ONES!"
"HA I KNEW IT, YOU ARE INTO THE PINK HAIRED ONE!"
"SHUT UP!"
As Joe laughed at and alongside his brother, he looked at the walls. 'Thank you for giving me the push I needed to be here, Abbacchio! Good luck on your fight!'
