Chapter Seven

Aiden liked the atmosphere of the premiere. There were hundreds of people, all screaming with joy and excitement. The people around Aiden, however, weren't so happy. They were all desperately trying to get the best photos at the best angles of the people who were walking down the red carpet. Aiden stood between masses of people, his arm resting on one of the stands for the black velvet rope that separated the journalists and photographers from the celebrities.

The sound of excited screams mixed with the unique sound of the camera flashes was loud in Aiden's ears. So much so that he found it hard to hear the celebrities being interviewed near him. There were people constantly moving through the red carpet. He tried to take as many photos as he could. He was lucky to be standing so close to the carpet.

Next to him was a reporter whose camera man was holding a camera so large that he wondered if his back was sore. Aiden heard distinct screams of the word Pierce. He looked around until he saw them. Pierce Fletcher was close by, walking down the carpet with his arm around his wife. Pierce was wearing a suit that looked more expensive than anything Aiden ever dreamed to own, with a bright blue tie. His wife's dress was the same colour as the tie, with elegant beading covering the gown from her shoulders all the way down to the floor. The most noticeable thing about her dress, however, was the huge bump that she was cradling with one of her hands.

"Pierce! Pierce!" the people around him screamed. Aiden felt like he wanted to cover his ears to escape the sound, however he was busy taking photos.

The couple slowly made their way further down the carpet. They stopped a few times to talk to reporters. Aiden couldn't keep the smile from his face as they stopped almost in front of him. They started talking to the journalist next to him. Aiden felt so star struck. He had seen Pierce Fletcher in so many movies and to see him in real life was so exciting. Aiden snapped photos of them both. Pierce's jet black hair was slicked back, making his blue eyes look even brighter. He was taller than Aiden had thought he would be. His wife, however, was almost as tall as him, something else Aiden hadn't expected. She was however, a model, and those women were known to be tall. She had shoulder length dark hair that was curled loosely. Her skin was light, making her dress stand out even more on her body. Eden's high cheek bones and huge lips made her look like she had just stepped out of a high fashion magazine. Aiden wasn't surprised the two of them were married, they were both very attractive.

"You're glowing!" the reporter told Eden.

Eden unconsciously looked down at her huge belly. "Thank-you, I feel like a beached whale, but thank-you!" she replied with a small laugh.

Pierce smiled over at his wife. "I think you look stunning," Pierce told her.

The reporter suddenly got a huge smile on her face. "You two are so sweet," she cooed at them. "What can you tell me about this new movie?"

Pierce pulled his arm back from his wife's shoulders and delved into conversation with the reporter. Eden took a few steps towards Aiden, her gaze pointed downwards.

"Are you okay?" Aiden asked over the sound of the crowd behind him.

Eden looked up. She had a little smile on her face. "My feet are killing me," she admitted. Her British accent was strong. "I don't think I've ever been this uncomfortable in heels."

Aiden smiled at her. "Oh no. Well, you do look stunning tonight."

"Thank-you." Eden pushed a few curls behind her ear. "Do you think anyone would notice if I took my shoes off?"

Aiden looked down at her long dress, the fabric almost touching the floor. "Honestly, probably not."

Eden laughed. "What am I thinking? I'll be a laughing stock if I carry my own heels down the red carpet!"

Aiden laughed with her. He liked Eden. She wasn't the stuck up, materialistic woman that Aiden had assumed most models to be. She was nice, with kind eyes and an adorable laugh. Aiden looked over at Pierce, who still hadn't noticed that his wife wasn't even standing next to him anymore. Aiden looked back at Eden, who was looking down at the rest of the long carpet, with her hand rubbing her belly.

Aiden looked around them. A few other celebrities had arrived and everyone around them had their attention on the celebrities or on Pierce. No one seemed to be watching Eden. Aiden lent forwards, the top half of his body over the velvet rope. "Kick them to me."

Eden's eyes widened. "What?"

"Kick me your shoes and I'll meet you down the other end of the carpet, right where the entrance is. There will be no press inside and you can just carry them to your seat?"

Eden pulled back and laughed. She very quickly nodded and kicked her shoes off at him at the same time. Aiden pushed them with his feet so that they were out of the way.

Eden laughed loudly with a huge smile on her face. "The sad part is, I feel like you've just saved my life!"

"For saving my life, can I take a photo of you?" Aiden asked.

Eden bit at her lip. "I don't think any photographer has ever asked me for a photo, they always just take them."

Aiden shrugged. "I'm nice, I guess." He didn't tell her that he had just been taking photos of her and Pierce before, but that didn't seem to matter. It didn't feel right to just go from chatting to someone to snapping their photo when they didn't expect it.

Eden smiled at him. "Yes. Yes you are." She took a step back and smiled at his camera, her hands cradling her baby bump. Once he took a few photos of her, Eden walked back over to her husband. He had just finished his chat with the reporter and he took her hand almost instantly and they continued on their walk down the carpet. Aiden noticed how happy Eden looked as she walked. Her dress was touching the floor, and you couldn't even notice that she wasn't wearing shoes.

Aiden picked up the shoes and practically ran towards where the red carpet ended. He had to weave around the countless photographers and journalists who were all trying to get close to the carpet. He sighed when he finally made it to the end. There was a security guard standing close to the door. "Where are you headed?" the guard asked him. The man was tall and was looking down at Aiden intimidatingly.

"I just have Eden Fletcher's shoes," he replied. "I just want to stand here and wait for her, I won't go inside."

The security guard looked a bit confused but nodded anyway.

Aiden watched as Eden and Pierce got closer and closer to the front door. Soon enough they were passing him. He quickly handed her the shoes as she walked through the door. "You're a lifesaver," Eden whispered to him as she took the shoes. Aiden laughed at the fact that Pierce didn't even seem to notice the exchange.

Aiden felt proud and happy as he walked back to his spot on the carpet. It felt nice to be kind. He took photos for another half an hour, and then everyone started packing up. He made a beeline for the train before the hundreds of people around him tried to make it to the train too.

Aiden found a seat on the crowded carriage. He was squished between a man on his phone, speaking loudly, and two girls who were laughing about something. He pulled his camera up from around his neck and started going through the photos. He had taken some good photos that he was sure Brian would be happy with. He flicked through them, quite pleased with his work.

He looked out the window of the train but most of what he saw was just darkness. He felt his phone buzz in his pocket. I'm at the station, the text said. Chase had dropped him off at the station a few hours ago and was there to pick him up. Aiden messaged back, I'm a few minutes away. Aiden watched the darkness outside the window for a few minutes until the train was at his stop. He left the train and found Chase easily, leaning against his car with his phone to his ear. When Chase saw him, he said something into the phone and then waved Aiden over.

"Who was that?" Aiden asked.

"Mary," Chase replied. He looked Aiden up and down. "I was going to ask you if you wanted to go to dinner, but in that, you probably don't."

Aiden looked down at his suit and black tie. His shoes were shiny under the large parking lot lights above them. "Nah, unless you want to take me somewhere fancy so I'll fit in?"

Chase looked down at the workout gear and sneakers he was wearing and shook his head. "Let's just go home, I'm sure we can cook something up."

Aiden nodded. Chase motioned for him to get in the car. Aiden opened the passenger seat door and got in, carefully holding up his camera to keep it safe. His camera felt heavier than normal, he had been carrying it around for hours and his arms were sore now.

"How was the premiere?" Chase asked. He backed the car out of the parking space. "Did you meet any famous people?"

"It was great, actually. I took a bunch of really nice photos and I actually spoke to Eden Fletcher."

"Who?" Chase asked.

"The model who is married to Pierce Fletcher," Aiden explained.

"You spoke to her!?" Chase asked. "She's like the most beautiful woman in the world."

"She was so nice too," Aiden told him.

"What about Pierce?" Chase asked. His voice held excitement. "You have the coolest job!"

Aiden shrugged. "I didn't speak to him. He seemed nice though. He looked like he really loved his wife."

"Naw, that's nice," Chase said. "Shame though that you didn't get to talk to him. We've seen most of his movies!"

Aiden nodded. "There's always next time."

"Oh," Chase said suddenly, like he had just remembered something. "I noticed that some of those photos are gone from the living room. What happened?"

Aiden smiled back at him. "I sold them."

"You sold them?" Chase asked. He sounded so happy. Aiden loved how much his friend cared for him. "That's incredible!"

Aiden shrugged. "It's only twenty photos."

"Twenty is still a lot of photos for a few days!"

Aiden smiled. "It was all actually in one transaction."

Chase looked confused. "Someone bought that many photos? That must have been expensive."

"In the description for the purchase they wrote that it was for a new hotel opening up in the city. They wanted to use them in the rooms, I guess."

Chase's grin was huge when he faced Aiden for a few moments. "I'm so proud of you." Chase went back to looking at the road.

Aiden couldn't keep the smile off his face. "Thank-you. I'm so happy about it."

"You won't have to worry about not making the rent for a while, hey?"

"Yeah, this is a real weight off my shoulders."

Chase looked over at Aiden as they stopped at a red light. "Can I ask you about something? I know you're happy at the moment and we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

"What?" Aiden asked. He had a feeling that he knew what Chase was about to say.

"What happened the other night, with Oliver?" he asked.

Aiden knew it. "A lot happened," he muttered.

"You didn't say anything when I got home the next morning. I assumed everything was fine but I haven't seen Oliver or even heard you say his name in over a week." Chase looked concerned as he drove. "Aiden, what did he do?"

Aiden bit at his lip. "He didn't do anything, we just had a fight."

"You two were getting along so well at dinner. What did you fight about?"

Aiden remembered the hurt and anger he felt as Oliver walked out of the room. "It started after dinner. We went to get ice-cream. My dad and Kai were there."

Chase gasped. "You saw your dad? What did he say?"

Aiden sighed. "He didn't see me. I ran out of there before he could. Kai didn't see me either."

"I don't blame you for being angry with him still. He punched you. You should still be mad with him," Chase told him. There was anger in his voice.

"It wasn't anger. It was fear. I don't want to face him. I don't know what he thinks of me now."

Chase nodded slowly. "Was it hard, seeing Kai? I know you were really close with him, back then."

Aiden nodded. He didn't want to talk about it. "Anyway, I was already emotional and we got back to the apartment and things were going well until he asked me about money. He wanted to loan me money so I wouldn't have to work for Brian."

Chase sighed. "You turned it down and he got offended?"

"Pretty much," Aiden affirmed. "I just don't want that kind of relationship."

"You know that he only offered because he cares about you," Chase said. "I know you only see it from your perspective, but he wouldn't have offered you the money to try and own you or make you rely on him."

Aiden bit at his lip. "I know that. I do, but he didn't listen to me when I tried to tell him I didn't want it."

Chase parked the car at the side of the building. He undid his seatbelt and turned towards Aiden. "You are a proud person who doesn't like people controlling you. Your dad used money to control you, he always told you that you could never afford to live out of home and that you'd always have to rely on him. Oliver, however, has lived a different life to you. He might not see money as control. He probably thought he was really helping you."

Aiden sighed. "You're probably right. I need to talk to him."

Chase nodded. "You should. He's a good guy. From what I saw the other night, he brings out the best in you. Don't let one argument about money ruin you both."

Aiden messaged Oliver as they walked into the building. I'm sorry about the other night. Can we talk?

Oliver replied a few minutes later. Come to my apartment tomorrow morning. I'll send you the address. I'm sorry too.

Aiden smiled down at his phone as he read the message. Oliver was inviting him to his apartment, something that he had never done before. He felt like even though they just had a fight, that Oliver was still opening up to him and Aiden was glad. He wanted to know more about Oliver, to be a bigger part in his life, and this was a great step. Aiden hoped that their relationship would only come out stronger once they got over this argument.
