Chapter 6
You take your dagger back, wipe the blade with your shirt and put it back in its sheath. Hoping, the spider Arachne, was dead you let your guard down, just a bit, though. You cover the cut on your neck with your hand as the kitten hoped off the other side. It started to meow in a certain direction.
"Are there monsters coming?" You asked it quietly. The animal started to walk.
"You know the way out of here?" You asked getting up. The kitten suddenly flickered. It was quick, but you saw. It's gray image flickered to a skeletal figure. As if it were an X-ray scan. Where did Nico get the kitten? You started to follow the kitten.
.
.
.
After a while your walking became staggering. Pain started to come back, blisters accompanying. You tried to stand, but after walking in tartarus you felt pain. You fell on your knees, unwillingly. Your palms soon coated in black sand. You couldn't take it, you shut your eyes and fell.
The cool sand brought you relief, until it started to dig into your cheek and what was exposed of your body. You opened your eyes once more, the sand wasn't sand. They were pieces of broken glass. Closing your eyes for one last time, you felt the kitten softly paw at your nose, trying to keep you awake.
.
.
.
In your dream you were standing in an unknown area. The ground rumbled and hands- no claws shot up from the ground. They grabbed your legs. The touch burned. You tried to run, but they were holding you in place. You screamed, but no one was around.
"My daughter." The voice of your mother rang in your ears, echoing. You saw your mother. Her blue eyes, now, a blood shade of red. Her teeth fangs and her hands claws. her image was ghastly, but clear enough.
"Remember when you abandoned me?" She hissed.
"A-abandoned."
"Yes. You left me to die."
"That's not true!" You shouted.
"Then, why did you leave me?"
"Y-you told me to." You whispered, looking down.
"I died. It was all your fault."
She flicked her wrist and the scene changed.
Now you were back at home. A creature stood in front of your mother. It growled as your mother started to attack. She was good but not good enough. The fight went on for a while until the creature spoke, "your daughter's already dead."
Your mother's eyes widen as she came to a stop, "she c-can't b-"
The creature used the back of its paw to hit her, making her fly back onto the cave wall. She let out a small cry in pain as her back hit the wall.
"A Hellhound was sent after her. It caught up." Tears started to gather in your mother's blue eyes.
"T-that's not tr-"
The monster slammed it's massive, pointy teeth down on your mother's neck. Blood soon spilled around. You screamed at the top of your lungs, you tried to move but it was no use. It was making you furious. The monster ripped away. Your headless mother laid limply on the ground. Blood was everywhere. You felt useless, you looked down at your hands. A red liquid(blood) started to craw all over your body. The scene became red and black, while your mother's body decayed into the ground. You screamed and the scene changed, now, you stood in a large room, it was pure white. You felt warm blood slowly crawl down your arm, dripping.
Drip. . . Drop. . .
The sound echoed in the emptiness. Your eyes were wide with fear. You ran up to a wall, you could see your reflection. The wall reflected your image like polished marble. Blood dripped from your face and tears streamed down your cheeks. You couldn't scream, you couldn't make any sound besides small cries. You couldn't speak, your voice was useless. Your body trembled. Your mother's death kept playing in your head, non-stop.
"why, (y/n)?" Your mother's voice pleaded. You crumbled to the ground.
"Just end it all, now." She whipered in your head.
'Just end it. . .end it all.'
"Please stay. . ."
Nico's voice was stuck in your head.
Nico's voice calmed you down. Your breathing was ragged and out of pace. You clutched your head, trying to comprehend everything.
Stay
Or
End it all.
. . .Torn between the two. . .
The blood was no longer warm, it was cold. Drenched in it, you began to shiver, curling up into a ball.
.
.
.
Your eyes shot open, you were still laying on the glass pieces. You struggled up. You looked down at yourself. There was no signs of ever being drenched in your mother's blood. You wiped your cheek, your hand had glass chips embedded all the palm. As well as your cheek. You winced as you ran your fingers down your face.
.
.
.
You consider taking more ambrosia, but, you may need it even more later on. You took in a deep breath, it was painful to your throat. The air in tartarus was awful. Each breath kept getting harder to breathe. You leaned on a dark red boulder and looked through your backpack. The flower's condition kept getting worse. You grab your only water bottle and take a big gulp of it. You felt better. Putting it away, you heard a screech. It sounded like it was far, but you were still cautious.
'Nico said he dreamt about tartarus. Was it that I fell, or was it that he did?' You questioned.
You followed the sound of the cat's meow. The kitten's, waiting, image flickered again. For a brief moment, you wondered if it was tartarus and if you were flickering. But no, you weren't. "Why do you flicker?" You asked it, not expecting an answer. Another screech rang. You turned and scanned the gray sky. Some creature with leathery wings dove towards you. You take out your dagger and throw it. You successfully land the shot. Half of the blade was in creatures neck. The creature dissappeared and your dagger fell back down, digging itself perfectly in the ground.
You immediately scream as a pain grew in your head. It felt as if someone had impaled your head. You fall down and clutch your head. "What the hell?" You scream. 'Why does my head hurt like this?!'
You, then, remember when you killed the Hellhound; you stabbed it in the head. You heard more screeches, you felt things biting at your flesh and claws tearing at it. Many. You scream at the pain, your vision unable to see clearly. You couldn't identify the monsters! You try to get away but you can't move. Then realization washed over you, so you stop fighting it. You were going to die, anyway. Everything in that goddamned place was trying to kill you.
"Nico." You remember whispering his name before blacking out.
.
.
.
You open your eyes. Were you still alive? You slowly bring your hands to your sight, they were covered in bleeding bites and slashed. They were eating you, but they were gone now. Unable to get up, you reached your hand outwards and began dragging yourself foward. You could see the remains of your backpack scattered and torn to shreds. Struggling to reach the blue rose, you remembered the soul. You could see the shreds of your backpack going down the slope. You couldn't see the bracelet anywhere.
You clutched the roses stem. It had somehow grown thorns that shouldn't have been there, but that didn't stop you from clutching it, making your knuckles white and your hand bleed, more.
"Where. . .is the. . .bracel-let?" You croaked. You force yourself up but your legs couldn't hold for long, you end up stumbling down the slope. You desperately try to find something to stop you but your fingers just end up being scraped raw.
You had never let go of the rose though.
Deep growls made the ground rumble. From the corner of your eye you could see a wolf like creature bare it's fangs. You couldn't describe the monster any farther, it was. . .just too. . .
One monster after another. . .
With a howl, it lunges at you.
You use your arm to block yourself. You don't know know what came over you but you suddenly felt different. Full of power. Your mind reflects to when you were battling Percy, how you don't know what happened. When your vision went black. It happened again. But there was a difference, this time, you could hear everything at the moment. You were highly aware of your surroundings. You couldn't see anything but you still knew where they stood and when they were going to attack. You didn't have a weapon, you also didn't know what was going through your mind.
.
.
You regained your sight. You crumbled back to the ground, you noticed you were in circled by golden dust.
You could only see within three feet distance. You decided to ignore that, you thought it was just a sign effect of your lack of energy. Though, you kept recalling the surge of power you felt when battling the monsters.
New blood spread on your stomach. A wound had been made on your gut, the large gash was bleeding horribly.
You couldn't move. The deep wound on your gut sent pain throughout your body. Cuts and scrapes burned. Your body was in so much pain.
You started to close your eyes, wanting it to go away.
"(Y/n)!" Nico's voice yelled.
He held you in his arms. Tears falling from his eyes. He had many injuries and his backpack was gone. How many monsters had attacked him? What was he going through alone?
"(Y/n), your. . .eyes! Why does this happen to them?"
"Nico. . ." You managed to croak.
"Dammit, (Y/n)! Don't die!" He removed his jacket and cover the wound on your gut, trying to stop the bleeding.
"Nico. . ." You wanted to say more but couldn't.
A tear left your eye.
He hugged you, burying his face in your neck. You couldn't hug him back, but you tried. It caused you so much pain to move your arms, you were barley able to wrapped you arms around his neck. He kept crying, wetting your neck, making your cuts burn. You remembered when he told you not to cry because of him because it hurt him more. Now you understood. It hurt your heart to see him cry because of you. It hurt more than any wound you could ever have. It made the wound on your gut feel like nothing. "Please. Don't. . .cry."
He looked into your eyes, "(Y/n). . ." His face was smudged with your blood.
He put a hand on the side of your face, cupping it. His hand was coated in your blood and a small mixture of his own. He gently pressed his cold lips against yours. He kissed you, making your cracked lips sting a little.
"Don't die. I need you." He cradled your head on his chest keeping it in place with his hand, "you're going to be fine. Please." He whispered. You felt a few tears drop on your head. "What happened to you?" The temperature suddenly drop. Although it was cold, you felt warm inside.
You were happy Nico was okay.
"Y-you need ambrosia." He dug in his pocket.
You denied it, "you need. . .it more. . .than I do."
"Just take it, (y/n)." He insisted.
You slightly shivered in the cold and took the piece. But instead of eating it you put it in his mouth.
"You. . .take. . .it." You croak.
After he gulped it down he hugged you tighter, "you are. . .such an idiot." You don't know why. . .but a small smile tugs at your lips. Nico leans in and steals another kiss.
"You needed the ambrosia more than I did, yet you gave it to me. . ."
"I'm fi-" you cough a little blood.
"What happen to you? What attacked you, what bit you, what cut you? Tell me."
"I . . .don't. . .know." You try to tell him.
The temperature only got colder.
"This is my fault! I shouldn't have left you alone."
Nico had a pained look and he faced away.
"It's not. . .your. . .fault." You wiped the blood of his cheek.
He slipped the bracelet on your wrist.
"Y-you. . .found. . ."
"If not, all of this would have been in vain-" Nico suddenly put you down and jumped in front of you. He was too far for you to see him clearly, but you heard him shout and you knew something had gone terribly wrong. You felt something warm splatter on you, something red.
Blood.
"Nico!" You shouted. You could see him now, he stumble next to you. Something attacked him! He had an object going into his stomach. You screamed as you saw him close his eyes and not open them again.
Everything faded after that.
.
.
.
You couldn't see, you couldn't hear.
.
.
.
You were stumbling as you dragged him out. You finally collapsed. . .you felt the tears spill out of your eyes. You screamed as you hugged him, "Nico!"
You cried and couldn't stop. The wound bled too much.
"Why did you put your life on the line for me. You are such an idiot. . ." You let your tears rain as you hugged him, and finally dropped the rose.
the rose disappeared. It broke into a million grains and left with the wind.
