Evening's Return
Once the movie finished, she left the theater and found the Lincoln Town Car still parked out front. Lowell was sitting inside and waiting. Going up to the car, she knocked on the passenger's window to get his attention. He looked over before he pressed the unlock button in the car. She stepped into the car and saw him put a newspaper on the back seat. Well, at least he had something to do while she was watching a movie.
When she had asked him what he was reading, he just pointed with his right thumb to the newspaper on the backseat. Afterwards, he started the car and drove back to the house. Granted, (f/n) was slightly irritated by his response. Of course, she should've figured that he would reply in such a way, since none of the house staff and workers seemed to like to talk to her very much. Regardless, she reached back and grabbed the newspaper with her right hand. With the newspaper in her possession, she started to look through the articles and read some of them to pass the time.
Upon arriving at the house, she left the newspaper in the car and thanked Lowell for the ride. He merely gave her a curt nod and drove into the garage after she closed the passenger door. With the car and him gone, (f/n) looked over the exterior of the house and let out a long sigh. She wondered if she should've stayed out longer and enjoyed her time alone more. Part of her told her that she should've. The other section argued that she had spent the proper amount of time out.
In the end she accepted the decision that she made. She knew that the movie would've been more enjoyable had Edgar been there with her. It was just strange to think that for quite some time she wanted that time to herself, where she could go into town with no one else. Now, she was satisfied and didn't desire it anymore. (F/n) wanted Edgar's company; she didn't desire to discard it for a period of time.
She was done with that line of thinking. From now on she would appreciate more the time that she spent with Edgar. Besides, he had even admitted that he cherished her greatly. Even if he teased and irritated her, she still understood that behind it all he deeply cared for her.
So, with her mind made up, she entered the house and closed the doors behind her. She didn't know where Edgar was, but she felt like she should at least find him. Thus, she decided to head to his workshop. When she didn't find him in there, she closed the workshop and saw one of the maids walking by. (F/n) went over to her and asked where Edgar could be found. When she was told that he was in the living room, she asked where that particular room was.
With the directions now in her mind, she went a few doors down to the right of the workshop door. Opening the door, she peeked inside and saw no one inside. Confused, she stepped into the room further and closed the door behind her quietly.
Walls were painted a rich maroon, and walnut crown molding went around the perimeter of the ceiling. Opposite the door, black paned French doors opened up onto the back courtyard of the house. Currently, the doors were closed, but the maroon curtains weren't shut. Decorating the walls of the room were paintings of chess scenes. To add to the chess theme, there was a chess table placed to the left of the door. Polished walnut chairs, which had black cushions, matched the elegant game table. As for the other furniture items, they consisted of the black leather couch and two black leather arm chairs. There was one armchair on each side of the couch. Across from the couch, a large television rested on the wall.
Additionally, there was a maroon plush blanket on the couch. From her position in the doorway, she wouldn't have been able to see the blanket, so it was a good thing that she took another step into the room. This was because the blanket seemed to have a form under it. Perhaps, Edgar had fallen asleep. Such a possibility seemed likely, since the television was still turned on. A small smile touched her lips, as she noticed what channel was on. An animated mystery show was playing, and it was most likely directed at a child audience. Of course, she still watched such shows herself when she lived back at her apartment. In fact she loved this particular show; she had enjoyed it ever since she was kid.
Walking over to the suspicious blanket carefully, she kneeled in front of the couch. She lifted up her hands and extended them out. (F/n) proceeded to pull the blanket back. Upon doing so, she dropped the blanket and covered her mouth with her hands. Right now, she couldn't laugh. Still, she had never seen Edgar this way before.
Drool, in a thin trail, was coming out of the left corner of his mouth. His dark brown locks were rather disheveled, while the left side of his face was pressed into a plush maroon pillow. As for the rest of him, he was curled up into a ball and hugged the blanket close. With everything in consideration, he looked absolutely adorable.
Deciding not to wake him, she grabbed the remote, which on the couch's left arm, and turned off the television. After she put the remote back where it was, she stood up and went to close the curtains in the room. Once she had accomplished that task, she went to exit the room, so that Edgar could sleep. She did want to take a picture of him, however. Granted, she resisted this urge; since she would not desire Edgar taking pictures of her while she slept.
While she was walking over to the door, she heard Edgar mumbling out her name. Stopping, she looked over to the couch and went back to it. She leaned over the back and glanced down at the male. He was still sleeping, and he had cuddled more into the sheets. After she let out a few quiet laughs, she pushed herself off the couch and went to leave once again. This time, however, Edgar had grabbed her right wrist with his right hand. He was now sitting up on the couch and was looking tiredly at her. A yawn escaped his lips, as he pushed some strands of his hair behind his left shoulder with his left hand.
"When did you get back?" he asked, blinking some sleep out of his visible eye.
"Just several minutes ago," she answered, trying to hide the heat that was tickling her cheeks. How he managed to look so attractive whenever he woke up was something that she would never understand. "You weren't in your workshop, so I asked one of the maids where you were. When I came in, I found you asleep on the couch. Sorry if I woke you."
"It's quite alright, but why is there a tiny smirk on your lips? It also seems like you want to laugh, but you're also attempting to hide that faint blush of yours. Did I do something in my sleep?" he inquired, pulling on her wrist a little bit more.
"Well, I now know that I'm not the only one who says another's name in their sleep," she responded, her smirk turning into a small grin. She saw a look of embarrassment cross his right eye, and he didn't respond to her comment. This didn't last for long, however, since a grin started to tug at his lips.
"Is that so? Is that why you were blushing? Or, do you find my appearance, just after I've woken up, to be that attractive?" he questioned before he noted that her cheeks darkened in color a little bit after he asked the third question. "So, that is the reason. Good to know. If you want to see me like this often, all you have to do is share my room with me, (f/n)."
Now, she really felt the heat rise to her cheeks. She tugged her wrist away from him, but he gripped it again. He proceeded to pull her over the back of the couch and onto his lap. Soon, she found herself pressed up against him, as he hugged her to him.
"Do you wish to know why I said your name in my sleep, (f/n)?"
Peering up at him, she noticed that there was a gentle smile on his lips. She wondered what he was up to, but she couldn't think too long on the matter, since she found herself being turned over. Her back was now against his chest, while the back of her head rested against his left shoulder. His left arm snaked around her waist, and he placed his right fingers under her chin.
Not a moment later, he glided his right thumb over her lips. "It's because I missed you so much. Letting you go into town on your own wasn't an easy thing for me to do. So, I'm glad to see you back safe and sound. I do wish to know what you did, though. Would you mind telling me?" he asked, as he moved his right hand away from her face and wrapped his right arm around her waist.
"I don't mind," she voiced before disclosing to him her trip to the movies. She told him the plot of the movie, and that it was okay but not fantastic. Of course, she didn't state that part of the reason for her low rating was because she was there alone. When she finished telling him about the film, she waited for his response, but he only ended up nodding.
Afterwards, he snuggled his face into the back of her right shoulder. "Do you wish that I was there with you?" he muttered, but she could still hear him.
In reply to this, she could only stutter on her words. Of course, she already knew her answer, but she didn't want him to know. Still, knowing him, he would figure out her answer very easily.
"Hmm, I suppose that I should feel honored, then. To know that you wanted me beside you when you had requested to be away from me is quite pleasing to the ears. It seems that you fully accept my presence now," he uttered, as he mentally chuckled. Now, he knew that she would be ready for the second surprise.
