Day's Diner
"The problem is that your employee was insulting my companion. Now, if that isn't an urgent matter, then you must not value customer service. Is that the case with this store?" Edgar asked, his countenance remaining relaxed, yet his tone was challenging.
Offended, the manager responded, "Of course, we value our customers. Every service knows to value them, since business wouldn't exist without them. Still, my employees would never commit such an act. They know better."
Sighing Edgar, pulled his phone out of his right pants' pocket and began to search through it. (F/n) wondered what he was up to, but after a few more taps, a recording began to play. It provided evidence that the cashier woman had said She doesn't deserve such luxury. He played no more lines than that one. Just when had Edgar started recording on his phone? Well, she did see him reach into his pocket and look at his phone, while he was threatening the cashier woman earlier. She didn't think anything of it at the time, though.
"Now, just by saying that statement, your employee implied that my companion isn't deserving of my gifts and that she is. She implied that she is greater than my companion, and she is demeaning my companion. To me that's quite an insult directed at my companion. So, do what you will with your employee, but I would like her to apologize. Adding to this, I would like someone else to stand at the register when I purchase that dress over there," he demanded in a neutral tone, while pointing over to the expensive article of clothing.
The manager just stood there, looking quite stunned. (F/n) found herself wanting to inch away from the scene with each passing second. She didn't care for the cash register woman's comments, but she didn't want this sort of confrontation. At the moment, however, it seemed like the manager was debating between defending her employee and accepting Edgar's demands.
"Yes, of course. Juliana go to the register in the men's department and send Isabel over here. First apologize to this young lady here," the manager complied, as she now awkwardly stood by. After she gave (f/n) an apology, she walked off and her manager soon followed.
When both of them were gone, (f/n) turned to Edgar and asked, "Was that really necessary? It really wasn't that big of a deal."
Facing her, he responded, "Of course, it was. I'll not have someone insulting you. They have no right to, and I won't stand for it. Now, go change into that dress that you like. I'll find some shoes for you."
He never gave her a chance to reply, since he walked off immediately after. Combing her right fingers through her hair, she let out a sigh before going over to the pricey dress. Reluctantly, she took it off the rack and headed over to the dressing room. Once in the dressing room, she examined the article of clothing again.
A white cotton bodice was covered with grey-blue lace and miniature pink flowers. Cap sleeves, covered in the pink flowers, went over the shoulders. At the waist was a pale blue bow with a Swarovski crystal flower in the middle. From the waist, the fabric became the color of the bow and formed a peplum design. The small flowers covered the top of the peplum design. Underneath this design at the waist, the bottom of the dress flared out and went just above the knees, as the grey-blue lace continued on this part of the dress. Around the hem of the dress, pink and white flowers wrapped themselves around it and extended upwards, while a bronze hued fabric took the role of the flowers' leaves.
Undoing the buttons on the back of the dress, (f/n) slipped on the dress after taking off the one that she was currently wearing. Now, there was one problem, she couldn't do all of the buttons back up. Annoyed at this, she just held the dress in the back. Before she stepped out, she saw shoes slide under the curtain of the dressing room. They were simple gloss pale blue two-inch heels. After she put them on, she held the back of the dress together with her right hand again and stepped out from behind the curtain.
"Well, what do you think, Edgar?"
Noting that she was holding the dress back with her right hand, he walked over to her before moving to behind her. She went to step away from him, but he grabbed her right hand and proceeded to remove it from the dress. Once he did so, he started to button up the dress for her.
Luckily, he couldn't see the slight tint of pink that was on her cheeks. So, when he finished buttoning up the dress for her, she mentally sighed in relief before she peered over her left shoulder to look at him. He took a few steps back and signaled her to turn around for him. After she did so, a smile pulled at his lips when he looked her over.
This dress was perfect for her. The pale hues of the dress complimented the vibrant color of her hair and eyes. It highlighted her elegance exceptionally and didn't try to take away her beauty. She wore the dress as though it was made specifically for her. Not being able to help himself, he walked up to her and intertwined his fingers with hers. "You look absolutely divine. Truly, you chose the ideal dress for you."
Her cheeks flushed with color, as she glanced down at her feet but eventually landed on their hands. His hands felt warm and comforting against hers, and she loved the contact. Peering back up at him, she met his softened gaze that seemed to adore her. She couldn't hold his gaze for long, since it made her quite bashful. "Thank you," she managed to mumble out. "Are you sure that you want to pay this much for this dress, though?"
"Of course, I'm sure, (f/n). I would be furious with myself if I didn't buy this for you. It compliments you in every way possible."
"Can't I at least help pay for it?" she asked, remembering the exorbitant price.
"No," he answered, pulling away from her and indicating for her to go change.
"Fine," she muttered, heading back into the dressing room. She closed the curtain and changed back into the other dress. When she was finished, she stepped out from the dressing room and took the new dress and pair of shoes with her. Afterwards, she followed Edgar back to the cash register to see a new woman standing there.
Once everything was paid for, the two of them left the store, and (f/n) wondered what Edgar had planned next. She had enough new outfits, and she didn't want him to buy anymore. So, she was thankful when they walked past other clothing stores. Instead, they headed towards a small restaurant that looked more like a classic themed diner.
Edgar held the door open for her, and she thanked him. Stepping into the small building, she found it to be quite vibrant with respect to colors. Turquoise, royal blue and ocean blue covered the walls in an alternating striped pattern. Turquoise bar stools, with royal blue cushions, sat along the windows, which were opposite the front counter. Underneath the windows were two shelves, filled with various sodas. Above the shelves were the counters where the customers ate at. On the ceiling, lampshade lights hung and alternated between the colors of ocean blue, green, orange and yellow.
Going up to the counter, they both ordered their food before taking a seat. Since both of them had ordered a soda, they were allowed to pick any from the shelves by their seats. (F/n) grabbed a blueberry one and popped it open before she placed the lid on the counter by her seat. Edgar picked out a melon flavored one and set the cap on the counter as well.
"I wouldn't have expected you to pick a place like this for lunch," she commented, taking another glance around the small diner.
"Well, I do like to eat a hamburger every now and then. Besides, this place has the best hamburgers in town. It also has almost any soda flavor that you can think of."
"Don't you think it's a bad idea to eat a hamburger in these clothes? I mean I really don't want to ruin this dress."
"Just be careful," he replied, after taking a sip of his soda.
Rolling her eyes at that answer, she spun around on her seat and looked outside the windows. She hadn't realized how late it was, but on the town's main clock, she saw that it was four in the afternoon. (F/n) set her soda on the counter before she rested her chin in the palms of her hands, while her elbows were on the counter. "So, are you going to tell me the cover of the book? It's almost the end of the day."
Now facing the windows himself, Edgar responded, "I did say at the end of the day, and it isn't that time yet. Then again, you surprised me with how you looked in that dress, so I suppose that I could tell you a bit earlier than expected. Still, I thought that you didn't want me to spoil you?" he remarked before drinking some more of his soda.
"This is different. It won't cost you money to tell me," she answered, as he set down his soda once more. Afterwards, he chuckled a bit and turned to face her.
