Shikamarus pov

I tapped my fingers as I waited for neji to arrive. I decided to make more of an effort to avoid the poor boy getting lonely. But all this waiting around making me anxious. It's going to be a drag if he stands me up.

"Where you waiting long" I looked up and saw neji in a white silk blouse and brown trousers. His hair had for the first time since I met him had been washed and brushed. It hung past his shoulders, perfectly framing his face. I was stunned by his beauty.

"Is something wrong" he tilted his head in confusion.

"Oh no it's fine" I said quickly "please sit"

He nodded and sat opposite me. We sat in silence for a moment until our food arrived.

"Wow I've never seen such delicious food" his eyes lit up.

"It's not just for looking you know. You can eat it too" I smiled in amusement.

"Right" he nodded before digging in "you know the one who picked out my outfit was my cousin"

Really? Hinata's your cousin?" I guess that shouldn't be surprising. They both have the same last name.

He nodded "it was nice seeing her again"

"You know she has a boyfriend here"

"A boyfriend? Who is he!" He demanded.

"You're quite protective of your cousin" I chuckled in amusement. Naruto should probably watch himself!

"Of course I am. She's my younger cousin" he sighed "this is pretty fancy. Are all your meals like this" he inspected the table in interest.

"No but it's our first meal together so I thought I'd go all out" I said as I lit a candle.

"How sweet of you" he smirked.

"Is that sarcasm I detect" I leaned forward.

"You wound me good sir" he gave a mock gasp "I'll have you know that I'm a Piller of honesty"

"Is that so?" I smirked as I leaned forward.

"Of course. Just ask my-" but he didn't get to finish that thought. I grabbed his chin and captured his lips. As soon as I pulled away I realised what a mistake I'd made.

"I need to go" I muttered before running away.
