Capture the Moment

"Are you daydreaming?" Ms. Hartwing spoke out, snapping Anastasia from her thoughts and back to the piano before her.

"No ma'am," Anastasia muttered with her brown cheeks warming up.

Snickering was heard behind her, it was no one other than Elliot. Eventually, Ms. Hartwing moved on to another student. Anastasia shot back a glare at Elliot, who shook her head with a smile, her chestnut hair was tied up in a ponytail with an ocean colored scrunchie and moved with her head.

"Never daydream in front of your instructor," Elliot fake coughed.

"Whatever, at least I'm working. I just have to practice," Anastasia huffed turning her head away from Elliot, but soon her eyes would be back on her.

"Ms. Hartwing should really get with the times, I could be making my music and playing it on my iPad right now," Elliot muttered as her pencil tip chipped.

"I prefer paper and the real thing over a tablet," Anastasia whispered as Ms. Hartwing glanced her way.

"That's because you're old fashioned, I blame your age though." Elliot bit back a cheeky smile, her cheeks reddening but not as much as Anastasia's.

"I am not and I am only a few months older!" Anastasia retorted with a huff while people got up to leave, Ms. Hartwing had already dismissed the class.

"You are too," Elliot countered closing her notebook and placed it in her black leather bag before getting up, swinging the bag over her shoulder.

Anastasia started to scramble for her items to put away when she noticed the class was nearly empty. Elliot was already almost out the door when Anastasia had everything put away.

"I can't believe you were just going to leave me!" Anastasia gasped now by Elliot's side, heading to the exit doors.

"I would have been leaving you if I didn't wait for you by the door," Elliot argued with a smirk before pushing one of the doors open, the cold briefly nipped their skin.

"Anyway, when does your party start?" Anastasia clutched her hand-knit sweater, closing it up around herself.

Elliot halted, "You aren't coming, are you? I told you it was going to be horrendous."

"But it's for your birthday, and I've never really been to a friend's birthday party before." Anastasia insisted while tugging Elliot along.

"And my birthday party would give you the wrong impression, please don't come." Elliot groaned tugging herself away from Anastasia.

But Anastasia did not say a word, she just went on to another topic. And when tomorrow came Anastasia would be at Elliot's party.

Anastasia fidgeted at a red wooden piano, no dust, unlike most pianos she played on. This was her first performance.

Elliot wore a white suit today, Anastasia could hear Elliot's grandparents complain about it next to her. Anastasia shook her head, she needed to focus. She inhaled deeply before exhaling and rolled her shoulders, before touching the keys and sang gently.

"She keeps me waaarm, she keeps me waaarm."

Elliot glowed.
