Darkness

I know I said I'm doing these in order, but this one has been on my mind all week. I promise that I'm going to try to be better with updating this book!

Thanks to TheOncerGamer who requested this one! When Rumplestiltskin returns to Storybrooke, Emma gets angry and her magic goes out of control again... Drama ensues... read on!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Emma found out that Rumplestiltskin had returned to Storybrooke, it was like something inside of her snapped.
The past six weeks, she had been happy for the first time in her life. She didn't intend on letting some pathetic -if extremely powerful- impish, murderous man destroy what she finally had: family.
The moment she found out, she started looking.
It didn't take her long to find him. She suspected he was looking for Killian, to try to get his revenge. Emma didn't intend on letting him.
In her rage though, she was unaware of the magic sparking to life in her hands.
*******
Rumplestiltskin's first thought upon returning to Storybrooke was revenge.
He was going to destroy the pirate, along with his girlfriend. They'd both ruined his life and he intended on ending their's.
The last thing he expected was for the saviour to end his.
*******
When David called Killian to warm him of the crocodile's return, his first concern was Emma.
Her reaction.
Killian knew his Swan would take action once she learned of Rumplestiltskin's return to the town, and he knew she'd do it alone.
That's when he noticed the Dark One dagger that Belle had entrusted him with was missing.
*******
All it took was one quick, fatal blast of magic.
Emma was unaware that she'd sent his dagger flying toward him.
Before she could stop it, though, the damage was done.
*******
The saviour was angry.
Very angry, and very powerful.
Rumple had died before.
He knew what dying felt like.
When his dagger came flying toward him, fuelled by Emma's magic and pierced his chest, he recognized the familiar feeling.
Death.
But at the same time, light, as the dark spirit exited his body.
In his last seconds, he was overwhelmed with guilt of what he'd become.
Guilt, because it was his fault that Emma Swan was now crying out in horror as she became the Dark One.
Guilt, because he'd never be able to properly apologize to Belle.
Guilt, for ruining Killian Jones' life, and now ruining Killian's true love's life.
Guilt.
"I'm sorry," were Rumplestiltskin's last words, directed at the woman on her knees, now in front of him before he welcomed this darkness.
The good kind.
Death.
Finally.
*******
Killian left his room, panic taking over.
Every possible, awful thing that could happen playing in his mind.
He had reason to worry.
His heart felt heavy, suddenly. It felt darker. Something had just happened... Something bad.
*******
Emma picked up the dagger from the dead man's chest.
The man who she'd just killed.
The word Emma was now clearly engraved on the knife.
Emma Swan was now the Dark One.
She ran.
She couldn't hurt anyone if she left. If she went to New York, she wouldn't have magic, because she was no longer the saviour. She was no longer the pure-hearted, good-spirited Emma Swan.
She was an evil entity.
Sure, she'd miss her parents and her brother. She miss Henry so much.
And she didn't dare thing about leaving Killian.
But it was for the best.
She got to her parents' loft without being noticed.
Her parents were out with Neal until late that night.
She thought Killian was helping Belle at the library.
Henry was at school.
She could pack, and leave unnoticed.
She could do it.
*******
He found the body behind Gold's shop.
He'd clearly been stabbed.
Killian quickly pieced together what had happened.
He was filled with dread as he ran to the only place Emma would have gone.
*******
When the knock at the front door came, Emma was momentarily terrified, but she didn't have the energy to move.
She knew who it was.
Maybe he'd offer her some comfort.
Maybe he'd be so appalled at what she'd done that he'd leave her.
Whatever happened, she didn't care anymore.
"Emma!?!" His voice was desperate, she could tell he was scared.
Great.
*******
He found her sitting on her bed, legs crossed, dagger on her lap, eyes wide and fearful.
Cautiously, he held out his hand.
"Swan-"
Emma's eyes shot up to look at him.
She looked angry.
"I can't... My brain is telling me to hurt you- I don't want to. Killian, this wasn't supposed to happen-"
Killian took a chance by crossing the room and scooping Emma into his arms. He loved her so much, and he wasn't going to let this dark spirit destroy her like it had Rumplestiltskin.
The moment he touched her, she melted into him.
She started sobbing uncontrollably.
*******
Emma didn't know how Killian could stand to be near her right now, but he stayed for hours as she cried into his chest.
At some point, he got up and called her parents.
He came back though.
He always came back.
"I love you, Emma. No matter what. We will get through this, I promise you. I'm staying right by your side the whole time. You'll win, just like you always do," he said softly, into her hair.
"How can I win? You saw what happened to- to..." She couldn't even say the name. The shame was too much.
Everything was too much.
*******
"Rumplestiltskin was a coward, even before the dagger. You, though? You are a strong, brave, brilliant, heroic, beautiful woman. If there's anyone that can overcome this, it's you," he said, completely sure that this was never going to stop his amazing Swan.
"This," Killian picked up the dagger, "May be your lifeline now, but nothing else changes. You're still Emma. You'll always be my Swan. My beautiful, intelligent, kind Emma."
"I love you so much," Emma said. It was the first time she'd ever said that, Killian realized.
"Come on. Your parents told me they want to talk to you," Killian said.
To Emma's surprise, she was welcomed with hugs and "everything is going to be okay"s.
Even Belle hugged her and assured her.
With time, things started getting better.
Emma managed to completely resist the darkness.
She'd never be the same, and she'd never always be in control, but considering what had happened when Rumplestiltskin was the dark one, she started to feel she was doing alright.
*******
After some time, Emma was doing amazingly well.
Everyone, especially Killian, was so proud of her.
Of course, at times, Emma has trouble, having to overcome the darkness, but she was doing so well.
She was beginning to discover her new powers.
As time went on, Emma hardly ever had to fight it.
She was slowly getting rid of the dark spirit.
The dagger was never a concern. Hidden under a secret floorboard in the Jolly Roger, that Elsa had made sure to return once she captured Blackbeard in Arendelle, the only people aware of its location were Emma and Killian.
It took years, but seeing Emma, happy, carefree and so loving with their two beautiful children, Killian knew that being the Dark One was but an obstacle for Emma.
*******
Emma would always regret the day her anger got the best of her and her life changed forever, but in most ways, that day made her stronger.
Looking back on it now, it was just an occasional inconvenience.
It brought joy too, though. Like the time that, as a wedding present for Killian, she made him immortal, like her. And the promise of doing the same for their children if they so choose.
Liam and Lily were perfect, and the satisfaction Emma got from being their mother was worth so much.
It seemed a happy ending was in the cards for the saviour after all.
Even if it included being the darkest and lightest person in existence all at once.
Then again, Emma's life had and would, never be normal anyway.
The End.
