~Hallelujah~

The Day finally dawned, cold and windy. A light fog swirled through the street below me as I gathered my hair into a high ponytail.

I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, and it showed.

My eyes were swollen from crying and had dark bags under them from lack of sleep. My face was pale and over all I looked like death. I sighed heavily and put on some concealer and blush.

It was five am in Paris which meant it would be six am in London. Cindy would be up in an hour to get ready for work. Which left me to my own devices for an hour. I walked over to the bed and pulled out my suitcase from underneath it. I rifled through and found what I was looking for.

I wasn't really sure why I had brought it with me. It's presence seemed to suck the very air out of the room. I stared at the small white box and blinked back tears. It would do me some good to get rid of it. And i needed some more practical clothes.

Without thinking I opened the box.

The diamond winked up at me.

I slammed the box shut again.

No point wishing for things that could no longer be. Jason was a jerk, and I deserve better.

I shoved the ring box into my purse and braced myself to head out into the chilly Parisian air.

The first thing on my agenda was to go to a pawn shop. I made my way over to Pierre's shop and asked for directions.

"Pierre where is the nearest pawn shop?"

"Is madame having monetary troubles?" He asked pulling me aside and lowering his voice. His brown eyes shone with concern.

"Oh! No nothing like that. You see there is something that I wish to rid myself of." I blushed.

"Oh?"

"Bad memories..." I replied showing him the box discreetly.

"I understand." He replied, his eyes widening.

"Thank you." I smiled.

Soon I stood in the front of an immaculate powder blue storefront titled. 'Giry's Pawn Shop'

I walked in, the bell on the door ringing cheerily to announce my presence.

"Hello?!" I called into the quiet shop.

"Ah, Hello madame. how may I help you?" The massive man asked, with his heavy french accent.

"I need to pawn this." I replied pulling the ring box out of my purse.

"Ouch. What did the poor fool do?" He asked bluntly.

"How do you know he's a fool?" I chuckled.

"Well for one madame, you're the lady selling his ring. He must have done something stupid." The man replied with a charming smile.

"Oh very." I agreed, laughing despite myself. The man crouched down to get tools to examine my ring.

I took the moment to look him over. The man was so tall and broad shouldered that he barely fit in the tiny shop. He had neat blonde hair, twinkling green eyes, and a ready smile.

"It is real yes?" He asked, startling me out of my reverie.

"What? Oh the ring?" I stammered.

"Oui." he replied.

"Yes the ring is real." I replied.

He took his time examining it, and them cast his gaze on me.

"And you, are you real?" He smirked.

"I beg your pardon?" I gasped.

"I simply wish to know if you are a figment of my imagination." He replied, his green eyes gleaming.

I laughed. "I assure you I am not."

"Good." He replied, holding my eye contact for just a second too long.

He gave me the money and I was free. After asking for directions to a clothing store that would sell something more suitable to the weather. I bid him good day and walked out into the fog again.

Right, that was super awkward... I chuckled to myself.

I got to the shop and bought some jeans a black tee shirt and some trainers. I also picked up a hoodie with the intention of buying a chick flick and some ice-cream later.

So I went back to the hotel and changed into my new set of clothes. Then, taking my camera and such. Went back out into the cold.

I made my way to the forest that the Phantom had lead me through... It felt as though something was calling me to the opera house. Soon the building loomed ahead of me, and I started to wonder if this was the best Idea. I stared at the cream colored bricks and sighed.

'If there is no Ghost. Then I have gone insane. The only way to prove my sanity to myself is to capture a picture of the Ghost.' I whispered to myself.

I -despite what my brain is telling me- walk up to the ornate door.

"I just want some answers." I admit to myself.

I raise my hand to knock but before I even touch the door it swings open. An involuntary shiver makes its way down my spine as I cross the threshold of the opera house. The door shuts immediately behind me and I listen.

An eerie wind blows through the rafters and makes a ghostly sound. I close my eyes and try to force myself not to panic. But the things that I read last night are no help to me as I recall what one blogger said.

'If you ever make the mistake of entering the condemned old opera house. Get out of there quickly. It takes no genius to see that the omen of death has found a home there. Get out while you can.'

The darkness threatens to overtake me and I almost lose my nerve when.

*Ring ring*

I fumble with my phone and manage to hit the talk button.

"H-Hello?" I gasp.

"Alex! It's me Jason!!"

"..." Oh no.

"I've been trying to call you-"

"Yeah? well stop trying!" I shout.

"What?" He asks stupidly.

"You heard me." I reply firmly.

"Why?"

"Why- Why?! You do realize just how audacious that is right?!" I reply, having a difficult time keeping calm.

"Alex I don't under-"

"You know exactly why!!!" I shout.

"Alex I made a mistake!" He yells.

"Damn right you made a mistake!" I was nearly screeching now.

"Well I don't know what you want me to do Alexandra!! I can't take it back!"

"No...you can't." I whisper.

"But I can make it up to you. Please, just let me try."

"Jason-"

"Alex I love you."

"If you did Gabby never would have turned your head." I reply, my throat clogged with tears.

"Alex I love you really I do, If You'll still have me I still want to marry you!"

"No. Jason, no." I reply firmly.

"ALRIGHT FINE THEN! give me back my ring!" He yells.

"What?!"

"Your engagement ring. Give it back." He demands.

"I can't." I reply.

"Why?"

"I pawned it."

"Then go and get it back! I need that ring."

"Why?"

"It's for Gabby now."

I gasped.

"Alex- Alexandra are you there?"

I hung up the phone and threw it at the marble staircase.

"Arrrrrrrgh." I screamed.

My scream echoed through the opera house and my tears fell freely. I let out a sob and stormed up the stairs into the theater of the opera.

The door banged off the wall as I marched toward the stage. At this point I really had no Idea what I was going to do when I got there.

I made my way to the orchestra pit before fully breaking down.

I clambered down into the pit and took a seat at the piano.

After crying for a bit. I did something that I hadn't done, since my mother died of Cancer.

I numbly held my hands over the piano keys.

I pressed down the keys and was surprised to hear not discordant notes but a perfectly tuned chords.

And then I opened my mouth and sang.

'I've heard there was a secret chord that David played, and it pleased the Lord. But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this the fourth the fifth the minor fall , the major lift.

The baffled king composing Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof.
You saw her bathing on the roof.
Her beauty, and the moonlight overthrew you.
She tied you to a kitchen chair.
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair.
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did—well, really—what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah..."

I had let my tears fall freely and I sighed. Wiping them away with my sleeve.

Applause filled the room startling me.

"Bravo!" The Phantom cheered from his seat in box five.
