Chapter 5: Amelia the Lawyer
No one questioned why nine little girls were getting on one of the fastest planes to London. The people were too busy in their everyday lives to really care about the little girls getting on a plane. They had tickets, nothing pulled up showing they caused trouble, so they were allowed on the plane.
The capitals sat in first class and watched as the plane took off into the air. Most of them were looking around on the plane since it was much more advanced than any aviation vehicle in their time. It had massage chairs, big screen televisions that let you watch whatever movie you wanted, small instant ovens that cooked any type of meal you wanted, it was amazing! The only one not awake was Naomi, who was sleeping with a blanket covering her body and a pillow underneath her head.
"I wonder why Naomi is so tired," Rose wondered as she looked across the isle to see her Japanese friend sleeping.
Katrina, who was sitting right next to her, shrugged her shoulders. She wasn't really sure what Naomi had done but she did know that she was tired and had obviously done something very strenuous in order to be as tired as she was. But it also looked like something was on her mind. What was it though? Maybe they'd find out in London.
**********
The plane ride to London was only a few hours, which was really surprising, but at the same time not so surprising. As the girls got off the plane and walked into London airport, they saw it was a bit less crowded than it was in the modern era. It was to be expected because the train system was unbelievably fast.
The girls walked out of the airport and saw that it was raining. They all got a complementary umbrella and then walked out onto the streets. "Some things never change," Amelia pointed out with a smile. This comforted her as the group made their way down the street, seeing floating cars still driving down the wrong side of the street, Big Ben a bit futuristic, and the London Eye with an even longer line than Amelia thought imaginable.
The girls soon saw what they were looking for; Amelia's home. Parked in the driveway was a polished blue Jaguar E-Type. Amelia marveled at the vehicle, always wanting to have a car like that when she got older. "Amazing," Amelia said as she looked at the car.
The others raised confused eyebrows but then shrugged their shoulders. They then went up to the door. Amelia rang the doorbell and waited for someone to open the door. It took a few seconds but someone finally opened the door; it was a young girl around the group's age with emerald green eyes and brown hair tied up in a ponytail. She was in a purple and blue dress with a pair of small earrings in her ears. "Hello," she greeted with a small smile. "I'm Eloise, Eloise Vargas. Are you here to see my Mother? She's on an important call with a client of hers."
"Um, yes we are actually," Amelia spoke. "It's very important that we talk to her."
"Well you can come in and wait." Eloise held the door open for the girls and allowed them inside. She then called for her Mother; "Mummy, you have some girls here who wants to see you."
The girls stood at the stairs as someone started walking down them. It looked to be an older version of Amelia with blonde hair in bobby pins, green eyes framed behind a pair of glasses, and a phone pressed to her ear as she talked to the person on the other end. "No, no, no, I told you that in order for me to take your case I need you to give me all the evidence you have available...well then maybe I shouldn't take the case then!" she argued. "Hold on I'm getting another call." She pushes a button on her phone. "Hello? Amelia Vargas here?...Oh yes Mrs. Burming I have the case ready for court...Yes I will see you Monday morning..." The British woman had yet to notice the girls. She was too focused on her phone calls to notice the eight girls standing next to Eloise.
"She seems busy," Amanda pointed out.
"Mummy is a lawyer after all so she's always busy," Eloise said.
"She's a lawyer?!" Amelia was in shock. A lawyer was a dream job of hers. To know that she was going to be doing her dream job was an amazing thought for her. Amelia felt like she was dreaming.
Eloise raised an eyebrow as she looked at Amelia. "Is she all right?" Eloise asked.
"To be honest, we do not know," Natie answered truthfully.
After another few minutes on the phone, Ms. Vargas hung up and placed her phone in her pocket. "There, all done," Ms. Vargas sighed as she dusted herself off. She hated getting flustered but she had to stand her ground when it came to her clients. "Now then, what did you need Eloise?"
"Mummy, these girls wanted to talk to you about something very important."
Ms. Vargas looked at the group and blinked in confusion. Then she got a better look and put two and two together. She crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot. "So why did you girls want to see me?"
"We just needed to talk to you ma'am," Emma softly replied.
"Is that so?" The young woman looked at the group and noticed the one that Amelia was missing. Where did she go? She then glanced over to the door that led to the magic room.
************
Amelia made her way down the steps of the magic room, finding that it was the same even after a hundred years. She made her way to the bottom and searched for her magic book. She was hoping that with the others distracting her older self upstairs she could find the correct spell she need to get them all home. "Come on, come on, where is it?" Amelia mumbled as she went through the bookcase. Then she remembered her secret spot where she put the book; right behind the bookshelf. She grabbed it and smiled. "Found it."
That's when somebody coughed. Amelia looked up to see her older self standing right above her. "Hello there, Amelia," she greeted with a frown. "Really? You tried to trick yourself?"
Amelia nervously chuckled.
