Chapter 29
When the news spread like wildfire, the CAPES academy was a chaos. The faculty immediately looked for a solution to what was going on, especially when Summit City was looking for Lockey. Now, the government was searching for him and they would try their best to keep Lockey out of trouble—the real Lockey.
Sir Gregory quickly went to their headmaster's office to let them know about what was happening. While Simon and Malcolm together with Klein looked for a way to help Lockey out of the time he was in.
In their room, they started to think what are some ways to help him. Later on, Aurea came in to join them. She asked their plans, but the boys couldn't utter a single word about it. They watched the news again and how they captured that Lockey was the one who caused some trouble in the city.
"It could really be him," Aurea said. "I heard some say that they found him left the building and after that, he couldn't be seen. He probably went to Summit City."
"But the thing is, that wasn't Lockey," Simon clarified to Aurea. "It looked like him, but we have evidence that that person wasn't Lockey. Someone was trying to be him and we don't know how it is happening."
"Can we really help him? Even save him from it?" Klein asked.
"What do you think?" Simon questioned him. Hindi naman nakasagot si Klein sa tanong nito. "If you could cheat influencing death by covering your hands with some gloves—"
"This isn't just some gloves," Klein corrected him.
"Yeah, I was saying, if you were able to do that then it's possible for us to find some ways to help Lockey. We just don't have that kind of ability. Aurea could fly, she was light as a feather. Malcolm, you were the God when it comes to technology. Klein's touch was deadly while I could transport to known places."
"I just want to show you something," Klein said. "I've never shown it to anyone before because they would be scared and that's just a fact."
Klein laughed it off and started taking his gloves off. Napaatras pa si Aurea habang hinawakan naman ni Simon si Malcolm sa balikat niya para kung atakihin man sila ni Klein ay maisasama niya ito sa pag-transport at makalayo sa kanya. The fear inside their chests falter when they saw his fingertips. Aurea gasped as she noticed while the boys couldn't believe it.
He put his hands up showing them what was happening to it. There were black dots on his fingertips seemingly like he played with some paints and couldn't wash it off.
"These black dots weren't here before," Klein started. "They started showing up when I put my gloves on. These gloves were created by my father. He thought it would protect me from harming innocent lives because all the things that have a life I touched die. It made my life easier, but people were still scared to come close to me. Even to touch me. I only remove these gloves when I'm alone. Lockey hasn't seen it yet because I don't want him to be uncomfortable in our room. Those dots appeared and kept growing while I protected people from getting harmed, but the casualty that I am slowly dying. . . Oh, I didn't know why did I tell you guys about it. I'm sorry."
"We're sorry to hear that, Klein. . ." Aurea said, so concerned about his condition.
"Yeah. . . Can't do anything about it, so I just have to live with it until I can. . ." Klein said, putting his gloves on. "So, if you guys think that we can save Lockey then count me in."
"We love that, Klein," Malcolm said. "You know what, since I can access some secret files that were logged on any device, I'll help you find something that can help you prevent those black dots from growing. "
"Thanks, Malcolm. I appreciate that. . ." Klein smiled.
"Wait! I have an idea!" Aurea announced and got closer to the boys. Seemingly she was so hyped up that her idea might be a good solution for what was happening.
"And what is that, Aurea? Tell us," Simon said.
"This is about your ability," Aurea said to Simon. "You can transport to places in just a second. If you wish you go there, you'll get there in a snap. Have you been to another country just by looking at the pictures online or from any catalogs?"
Simon nodded his head. "I did. . . But it was exhausting for me. It took too much of my energy, but yeah, I can do that. Why do you ask?"
"Klein, you've still got the picture, right?" Aurea asked him.
Klein shook his head. "Oh, no. Sir Gregory took it with him."
"Oh, shit," she hissed. "Scrapped the idea."
"What was it, Aurea?" Simon questioned. "You didn't even tell anything to us."
"Well, Simon, as you can transport to other places and as you said, you can go to another country just by looking at their picture then maybe you could do the same thing to the picture where Lockey was in!"
Napailing naman si Simon. "Yup, let's scrapped that idea. I can transport to a place in the present time, but I cannot transport to the past. That was just impossible for me to do."
"But why don't you try it?" Malcolm asked. "I mean, there's nothing you could lose, but try. . ."
"If I would try it, we don't have the picture with us."
"There were a few photos in the basement that came from the same year. It wasn't the same photo, but it could still help. What do you think?"
"Okay, so what's the secret basement now?" Aurea asked.
"Then let's just do it!" Malcolm said. "Aurea, you'll know it when you get there."
Even though Aurea was confused about what they were talking about, she went along with them. They had to make sure that no one would see them and so when everything was set to go, they were able to get to the secret basement without anyone noticing them. Aurea couldn't believe what she saw and that there was so much stuff around she hadn't seen before, especially the things that were dated back then.
"Here it is!" Klein said as he rummaged through some old albums and found a photo that was dated the same year they found the image with Lockey in it. "Try it!"
Simon took the photo from Klein and analyzed the photo. Soon he let them know that he needed to focus so he could draw more energy within. He sat down and closed his eyes imagining the place he needed to be at.
Malcolm, Klein, and Aurea were all wishing it would work, but it took Simon a few minutes, but nothing happened. He tried again for another ten minutes, but he wasn't going anywhere.
"Do you think you still have your ability or now you just have some defects?" Malcolm asked.
Napangisi naman si Simon. "I just know where my ability lies and— and he wasn't able to continue his words when they found him vanished in front of their eyes.
"It didn't work. . . It brought me back outside because it was the same place where it stood now. So, I guess, transporting back in time wasn't just my ability."
Napabitaw naman ng buntonghininga si Aurea. "Well, we tried. At least, we tried. Now, we'll find another way."
"What else we could do?" Klein asked. "I don't want to be negative about it."
Later on, they heard a loud noise within the building.
"What was happening?" Klein asked.
"They are locking down the building," Malcolm said. "Let's go back out there. We need to know what's happening now."
When they all went back up and the hallways could find no one in, they knew something weird was happening. They all decided to go to the headmaster's office where they found Sir Gregory and the other faculty member holding a person who was kneeling on the ground. When the person lifted their head up, they found it was Lockey.
The Lockey in disguise.
The next thing they knew, even though the strong adults tried to hold him off, he was still able to get away from them. The kids were about to run for their lives when this disguised Lockey was about to attack them, but before he could, a wormhole appeared out of nowhere and quickly vanished after a second.
"He wouldn't be able to get away," the headmaster said. "He was trapped here even though he ran through that wormhole. He can't get away with us. Lockey's father made sure of it because he knew this day will come. . ."
With that information coming from the headmaster, they knew they were about to face more than a city that was in so much rage against people like them and an enemy who could run fast like Lockey and his father.
And who would it be? They don't know. . . No one knew.
