Chapter 16

As soon as the three of them had gone back to the room, all were left dumbfounded at the event of possibly being the worst night of their life. Ikinabigla niya iyon.

"What the fuck that just happened?"

"Why they were going to arrest Lockey?" takang tanong ni Malcolm. "This just doesn't make sense to me. Saka paano nila nalaman na nasa restaurant sa mga oras na 'yon si Lockey at ang tita niya? Something is not right..."

"And it's not right not to tell this to Sir Gregory," Simon noted. "He would be fuming if he found out that this happened. We should tell him. What do you think, Lock?"

"Huh? Ano ulit 'yon?"

"Should we tell this to Sir Gregory? Kasi kung hindi natin sasabihin, he'll know it eitherway. We should come clean at baka mas alam niya pa kung anong gagawin."

"I would agree to it, but we would let you think about it, Lock." "We don't know what happened. I, too, was shocked..."

"Yeah... I was just more worried about my aunt," Lockey said. "They could've detained them and questioned them just to know where am I now. They don't know that. They don't have any idea where am I, but for the fact that Sir Gregory just told her I'll be studying elsewhere... I hope they won't do anything to her."

"She got Gage, though," Simon said. "Sure he'll protect her right?"

Lockey raised his head looking questionably at his friend. He shook his head before he could answer him. "I don't know about that, Sime. I don't even trust that guy. He just came into our lives."

"Well, what are we gonna do now?" Malcolm asked. "I'm sure we don't want to make Sir Gregory's night bad. We already had one so..."

"Maybe we could just talk to him tomorrow," Lockey said. "And we don't have to keep this from him. In fact, he was the one who told us to go there so it wasn't our fault."

"You're right," Simon agreed, nodding his head. "Come on, let's get this thing done in the morning. We'll just let it go for the night..."

Lockey took a deep breath and let it go. Once he got a hold of himself, he excused himself to go back to his room. As he left their room and walked down the hallway to his room, Lockey was wondering if they were right about it. His hands were inside his pocket while his head was being flown into a sea of thoughts.

When he reached his room, he didn't even bother knocking on the door and got right inside. He wasn't sure if Klein was inside and might've already been on a sleep fest. He went straight into his bed and sat on it. He let out a deep breath once again.

If I killed my dad at such a young age, how I don't have any memories of doing it? Am I being framed? I know I didn't do such things. My hands are clean. I didn't kill my own father.

"Earth to Lockey." He snapped out of thoughts when he heard and saw Klein trying to grab his attention. "You're weird tonight."

"Oh, I'm sorry..." he apologized and Klein smirked and got back reading a book on his bed.

Lockey stood up, grabbed fresh clothes from his closet, and changed into comfortable nightwear. He laid down on the bed and put his hands above his stomach while staring at the ceiling. For the past few minutes, he was in the position until Klein peeped his head above him. He was startled when he noticed him.

"Hey, I'm sorry... was I bothering you?" he apologetically asked.

Klein shook his head as he turned back into his bed. "No. But, you kind of, with you being silent. That should be me and not you. You're so weird tonight, Lockey."

"Yeah... something just happened..." I said. "And I don't want to be a burden to you. You don't have to know it, too."

"I'm all ears," he said. Lockey was a little surprised. "At dinner earlier, I heard you went to visit your auntie. Is that it?"

Lockey nodded. "Yeah... just something happened there. It's not a big deal."

"Well, for others, it is a big deal when you get a chance to visit your relatives. Believe me, tomorrow morning at breakfast, expect a lot of people to come to you to ask how the visit must have been. We all want to visit our family... we just can't—or some don't have a family anymore."

Lockey pursed his lips together and nodded. "I'll prepare myself then. Thanks for the heads up... and hey, this is the first time we've had a full conversation and heard you speak more than a few words."

Klein's smile turned into a smirk. "Well, I gotta know my roommate eventually... so..."

Lockey chuckled. "Fair enough..."

"Good night, Lockey."

"Good night, Klein..."

Lockey turned himself and faced the wall on his left side. What happened was a lot for him. Knowing that he's now a known fugitive in the city he grew up was terrifying. He cannot go back there unless he can make them believe that he didn't do anything to his father's death, but until then, Lockey's safety is within the walls of the CAPES Academy.

The next morning, Lockey woke up feeling like it wasn't the best one. He was still worried about his aunt. He wasn't sure what they did to them right after they left the restaurant. They probably be interrogating her and getting answers to questions she has no idea about. His aunt knew his parents had unimaginable abilities and that didn't pass to their only son which is Lockey. Knowing he wouldn't have those abilities like his parents was something he accepted a long time ago, but the fact that this academy believed him—possibly there could be more.

As he got up from bed, he noticed that Klein was not in bed. It was already left tidied up. He wondered if he could be at breakfast right now. He grabbed his phone and it was already past eight in the morning. He stood up and changed his clothes.

As usual, the morning should set as a normal routine for him in the academy—have breakfast, go to classes, have lunch, afternoon training, and dinner then go to sleep and repeat the next day. But today, Lockey had to break that routine. Rather than going straight to the dining hall, he turned right into the hallway heading towards Sir Gregory's office.

When he reached the office and stood outside the door, he took a deep breath before he could raise his hand and knock on the door. As he was about to make his presence known, the door unlocked and opened in front of him appearing well-dressed Sir Gregory. He noticed he trimmed his beard and seemed to smoothen his skin fairly without his scruffy beard.

"Oh, Lockey! Good morning," he greeted.

"Good morning, sir," Lockey greeted. "Can I talk to you?"

"Sure," he said, opening the door behind him. "Come in and seat on the chair."

Sir Gregory walked behind his desk and sat on his chair while Lockey was finding himself trying to be comfortable on the chair. He couldn't even look straight into the eyes of his professor because he knew that whatever news he was about to tell wasn't gonna be good.

"Have you gone to the dining and had your breakfast?" he questioned and Lockey shook his head. "Alright, how can I help you, you man? How was the visit with your aunt last night?"

Lockey shifted his eyes to him made a quick eye contact and turned it away. He let out a deep breath before he could speak.

"I haven't had breakfast, I just wanted to talk to you first," Lockey started. "And yeah, I did meet my aunt last night... I'm happy I've got to see her and talk to her, but..."

"But what, Lockey?"

"While we're at dinner, some group of people, I'm not sure if they are from the government, but they are trying to arrest me... something just happened that made the place shut down and the three of us were able to escape. My aunt and Gage were left in that place so I don't have any idea what happened after we left."

Sir Gregory fixed his posture and put his elbow on the desk trying to think what to say to Lockey. He doesn't want to show him he is concerned about it because it would what Lockey's feeling worse.

"Why were they arresting you for, Lockey?"

"For my father's death—murder, which I didn't do," Lockey explained.

"Of course, they wouldn't listen to you." "They wanted to get rid of all of the abomination and so they are trying to put your father's death unto you. This is just their way to clean their hands from the dirty crimes they do."

"What should I do and how can I help my aunt?"

"I don't want you to do anything for now, Lockey. We'll handle it. The adults will. For now, follow your schedule and I'll give you an update once I hear news from your aunt. I promise it'll be a good one, alright?"

"Okay..." he said and let out a defeated sigh.

"Go on and join the rest at the dining hall. I will call you as soon as I get an update."

"Thanks, sir..." Lockey stood and turned towards the door. He was about to leave when Sir Gregory called him once again. "Yes, sir?"

"Just a question, I'm sorry... what came up the moment you were able to escape from them?"

"Oh... the electricity in the restaurant sparked the whole building blacked out... that's all that happened. Simon was able to get us out of there before they could catch us all."

"Alright... thanks, Lockey. I'm glad you're safe."

Lockey pursed his lips and reached for the doorknob opening the door for himself to step out of the room. He walked down the hall towards the dining hall and found his friends at the usual table they were in. He saw many students look at him as Klein said last night, many would look at him for going out of the CAPES and going back to the Summit City where it is impossible for people like them to get out.

While left inside his office, Sir Gregory quickly made a phone call to his boss' secretary asking if he had a chance to meet him today. He was given time to meet his boss to escalate the situation.

What came up could be dangerous not just for Lockey, but for the academy. The government in Summit City has its way of winning itself against the abomination and so they had to come up with a plan to stop them from coming, especially since Lockey's ability started to awaken and it could be disruptive once it became full-blown.

And they need to look out for it—all of the CAPES.
