Chapter Thirty 

holy shit blackbeard? 

3rd person pov 

when they got there, they got off the plane. canyon held popes hand as they looked around, ward stayed on the plane and they got into a car which drove them out to the city. when they got out, they walked around looking for a man named jose but they couldn't find anyone. john b and sarah separated from cleo, pope and canyon but it didn't matter. they turned and saw a car coming towards them 

"they don't look friendly" cleo said and canyon nodded 

"go, run" pope stated and he grabbed canyons hand as they ran as fast as they could. they ran to the bus and saw jj with kiara. 

"we gotta go, we gotta run" cleo told them 

"already? we just got here" kiara complained 

"its the rest of our lives carrera, we should get used to it" canyon told her and kiara nodded as she got off the bus. 

"whats happening?" she asked 

"singhs men are right behind us, they're after us, we have to think of a plan" pope said and canyon nodded as she looked around but she didn't see anything. 

"okay, why don't we just hijack the bus?" jj said 

"the bus? jj come on, no way" canyon told him and they heard the cars as they ran and hid in the fruit stands. canyon stayed with pope as she held his hand and looked around. 

"welcome to south America" cleo said and canyon nodded. soon enough they got up and they began to walk to where jj was leading them, they found barracuda mike and he led them to a rafter 

"go anything to protect yourself?" he asked 

"uh no kinda working on that part" jj stated 

"no, he means no" canyon spoke up 

"here" he handed the bag to jj 

"whats this?" jj asked 

"machetes, you'll need em, I'm adding cost of this rig to what you already owe me, don't expect to see it again anyways. look, I asked around the landing , your buds did leave this morning but I was able to get directions to el tesero. pretty loose, only jose knows the real way but gets you in the right zipcode , maybe " mike said and canyon laughed softly as pope smiled at her laugh, even in the hardest situations she would still laugh and she would still find a way to make everyone smile. 

"thanks" pope said 

"don't thank me , start praying. and jj you owe me dude, ten times. good luck" he said and they got on the rig as they began to trek down the river. over night, they hid the boat and fell asleep until the next morning when a boat shot by and canyon sighed. 

"jj you were right, that's singh and his men but they're not looking for us" cleo said 

"yeah, they're moving real quick, they're looking for john b and sarah. they're going know where they're headed, we gotta go, they're gonna need us" jj said and he started it up again as they went after singh and his men. canyon held popes hand as they stayed close behind them. 

"okay guys, I think this is el tesero. the trailhead to the mountain is supposed to start here" kie stated 

"oh shit, that's one of singhs guys , what are we going to do? i mean we gotta get past him somehow" jj said and pope shared a look with canyon. 

"leave that up to us" she told them and she grabbed the fireworks as they went and hid before they shot them off and watched them

"is he buying it?" pope asked as they threw the fireworks at them and then they were being shot at.  soon enough they watched the men go away and canyon laughed. 

"think we're getting better at this" pope said to jj and canyon shook her head 

"hey , hey. ain't no time for celebrating. we didn't do nothing yet" cleo said 

"that's fair" kiara and canyon stated a the same time as they began to walk away and go on the path. canyon and pope walked ahead of jj, cleo and kiara as they waited for them to catch up 

"pope, hey, we couldn't find anything, you guys find something?" he called up the couple and canyon smiled 

"path leads this way, we just need to follow it" she called and they nodded  as they kept walking and when they got there, they saw ward with sarah, john b and big john. canyon held popes hand as jj handed her a machete and he handed one to kiara too, the three of them held them as they watched the scene in front of them 

"is this ride or die?" jj asked as he made eye contact with canyon 

"always, p4l" she said and the others said it afterwards as they pulled out their machetes and ran over to them. 

"drop it ward, don't do it" canyon yelled and the rest was a muddle of words 

"come on , you're out numbered ward" jj said 

"what are you going to do? shot us all?" pope asked 

"sure as hell wont shoot me" canyon whispered and then big john spoke up 

"if youre going to shoot anyone, shoot me" he exclaimed but john b stepped forward only to have sarah push him back and move herself in front of the gun 

"stop, enough, youre not gonna kill all of us. i know you wont, I know you, you forget that I know you" sarah said to him and canyon sighed as sarah took the gun and gave it to john b 

"I couldn't do it" 

"yeah, well I can" a man shouted and he aimed the gun at them 

"toss it" he yelled 

"take it easy bud, your boss is dead, you have no reason to do this"big john stated 

"I can think of a few reasons, toss it" he said and john b tossed the gun 

"thought you'd end up with the gold eh, alright, nobody move. my mate back there is dead because of you. you go first" he said to sarah and he pulled the trigger but ward ran in front of it and pushed the guy off of the cliff with him 

"holy shit" canyon said and she walked to the edge with everyone as they looked down at wards dead body and sarah cried. canyon held her hand as sarah squeezed it and put her head in her shoulder as canyon let her cry 

they turned to be big john and saw him bloody and out of breathe, they quickly got him up and led him back to the boat that brought them there. canyon held his hand as he looked at her and she smiled at him 

"youre a good kid canyon, thank you for taking care of my boy" he said and she nodded. 

"of course" she exclaimed and she looked at john b as big john took his last breathe and they buried him. soon after that they went home but what would they find? 

-18 MONTHS LATER -

canyon sat next to pope  as they listened to the man at the podium in front of them.

"an expedition of one man, john routledge, and a group of teenagers who are with us today. locals, who grew up here and who succeeded where centuries of conquistadors, explorers and admirals failed. today, we come together to celebrate these teens. friends from both sides of the island who came together to solve this 500 year old mystery. lets hear it for 'em" he said and everyone cheered for them.

molly and jackson cheered loudly for them making jj lean forward and laugh with canyon after a while, they all got up and walked away, jj was talking and they all listened. sarah and john b separated and canyon walked with kiara, jj, pope and cleo. 

"can we help you?" pope asked the man as he held canyons hand as she ran her hand up and down his arm 

"yes. i wanted to tell you all its remarkable what you all did, the royal merchant, el dorado, denmark tanny, impressive resume. i was wondering if you would all be so kind as to look at an item of mine" he said 

"oh yeah, what type of item is that?" cleo asked him. 

"its a manuscript, i would investigate it myself but I'm too long in the tooth, i need partners and you all were the first on my list" he said 

"may i?" pope asked 

"i was hoping you would" he said and he handed it to pope as canyon leaned over his shoulder and looked at it with him. her chin rested on his shoulder as she looked back up at the man. 

"who was the captain?" jj asked 

"edward teach, blackbeard" he said 

"holy shit blackbeard?" canyon said and she made eye contact with everyone as they all thought the same thing 

this was only the beginning
