just take care of my girl

3rd Person POV

the next day in class, canyon sat there taking the test in silence.the door opened and a man walked in asking for pope. canyons eyebrows rose but she didnt say anything as she looked at jj and then kiara. pope got out of his seat and he walked out of the classroom with a man. she was confused but she continued to finish the test in silence and peace.

after class, they left and they walked to the library together. canyon walked quietly and quickly next to them almost like she was trying to not bring any attention to herself but she wasn't , she didn't want any attention. she wanted to be in class doing her work and ignoring everything that made her head hurt

"what is this a game of tag?" jj asked and canyon shrugged, he had finally taken the time to look at the girl and he saw the bags plaguing her face, he saw that her eyes didnt have the same shine and he saw that she lost the pep in her step that she usually had. he didn't notice all of this before but now he could see it.

this was weighing the girl down and making her tired. he didn't know what to do, she was always helping everyone, who helped her? thats what he worried about, what if this became too much for her and she bailed out? called it quits, decided that everything was hurting her head and making her tired.

"seriously pope, you are driving me insane" kiara stated and canyon ran a hand through her hair, now jj felt like he had to watch every single one of her movements and make sure that nothing happened. he couldnt let anything happen to the girl, he couldn't handle it if he lost her.

"okay, so that guy was from the scholarship committee, take a look at this, read it" pope said and he handed jj the letter

"out loud" kiara exclaimed

"i can't read cursive" jj told them and canyon nodded

"yeah that seems about right" canyon stated and jj looked at her. she didn't mean for it to come out in a rude way and yet it did , she didn't know what was going on in her brain but she didn't like it.

"dear.mr heyward, i am reaching out because i have material evidence that can exonerate john b. routledge. it is of vital importance that you come and meet me in person at my offices at 27 king street, charleston at 8:00 pm sharp tonight. please come alone, regards c.limbrey " kiara read off to them and canyon sighed as she ran a hand through her hair.

"charleston?" jj asked

"i know its like an eight hour drive plus the ferry, how are we going to get there tonight?" pope asked and canyon shrugged

"me and kiara have a free period" canyon stated

"material evidence? what does that even mean material evidence?" jj asked and canyon smacked her forehead

"it means he can clear john b" kiara exclaimed

"oh shit, then we're going to charleston" jj said

"i gotta tell my mom, look if we get it this time, we are not giving it to shoupe" kiara said

"well no shit , hes an asshole" canyon stated and they all looked at her shocked, sure she had said bad things about the cops but she had never gone that far. pope looked at the laptop and told them something as they all sighed.

"okay well we need to get home and talk to our parents, let's go" canyon said and she grabbed her bag. jj and pope went home quickly and got their stuff before kiara and canyon went to kies. they got out and walked inside, there sat molly and jackson with anna and mike.

"hey mom" canyon said and molly got up as she walked over and she hugged the girl softly, canyon hugged her back and she led them away so kiara could talk to mike and anna.

"whats wrong sweetheart?" molly asked once they were alone with jackson.

"someone sent pope a letter saying that they have evidence that john b is innocent but the only way we can get the evidence is if we go to charleston and meet this person, i know it sounds dangerous and i know that we shouldnt go but please. i need to do this for john b" she said and molly shared a look with jackson.

"you text us and tell us that you're safe, we know that this means alot to you and that you need to this. just please be safe for us honey" jackson said and she nodded as she leaned forward and she hugged them both. they walked out to see anna and mike talking to kiara

"so are they letting you go?" kiara asked and canyon nodded

"yeah" she told her and kiara scoffed as she looked at anna and mike again. canyon felt like maybe that was the wrong thing to say at the moment.

"god why can't you be more like molly and jackson? they let her be a pogue" kiara stated and canyon sighed as she turned to her parents

"walk me to the car?" she asked them and they both nodded as they led her to the car and they saw jj and pope sitting there.

"mrs. moon, its nice to see you again" jj said and he got out as he hugged the women and she hugged him back

"its nice to see you too jj, canyon told why you guys are leaving, just take care of my girl" molly said and jj nodded as canyon got in the car. molly and jackson walked away as they all turned to watch the trio. kiara got in the truck and they left the house, canyon waved at her parents from the back window.

they were able to get on the ferry and pope got out of the car with kiara and jj but canyon stayed in the truck and they all looked at her. they didn't know what to do but let her stay in the car. once they got off the ferry, they began to drive to charleston. canyon put her headphones in as she leaned her head on the window and didn't listen to them talking. she watched the truck begin to smoke and they all got out of the truck as they looked at it.

"plan b? we could public transportation, we could hitchhike, we could ride bikes" kiara said and canyon shook her head. they called a tow truck and were able to bring it to the station, canyon didn't hear kiara or jj in the back, she didn't hear them talking about pope or her.

once the truck was fixed, they were back on their journey and they were prepared for anything, or maybe not. who knew?
