Chapter Ten
this was where it either began or it ended.

3rd Person POV

and this was it. this was where it either began or it ended. they had gone back to the wreck and fell asleep there. pope was avoiding kiara , canyon didn't know why. she watched pope and jj talk to each other and then kiara sat up and spoke

"we might as well help john b" pope said and he grabbed the keys as he left and canyon watched.

"you be careful okay?" kiara spoke and pope walked out as Kiara followed

"look I'm sorry that i told you the truth, I'm trying to talk to you" Kiara stated as pope rode off and canyon made eye contact with JJ, just then a helicopter flew above them and he grabbed her hand. they held each other close and hard as they watched in fear. they walked back inside and began to pack things up as canyon stayed out on the dock.

"hey cowgirl, you coming?" she heard and she turned to see JJ with Kiara as she held a basket and they both stared at her. canyon had a sad look in her eyes but she was hiding it the best way she could and that was good enough

"yeah," she said and she got up and walked to the car with Kiara and JJ. she saw the way kiara was looking at her but she didn't pay any attention to it. she knew that Kiara hadn't moved on and even though she did move on, Kiara didn't and that's okay.

"where have you been?" anna asked as she stood in front of them and canyon saw molly with her

"Mom" she said and she ran forward and hugged her. molly held her tightly and hugged her back, she pulled back and looked her daughter over.

"are you okay?" she asked and canyon sighed and nodded

"I'm okay, i know that i should have called. I'm sorry i didn't. i will be okay" she said and molly kissed her forehead and held her close.

"you be safe, i will be at home waiting for you" she exclaimed and she let canyon go. canyon nodded as she climbed into the car and then she looked at kiara and JJ. she heard anna talking to kiara

"mom, john b needs me" she said and she closed the door as she drove off and canyon grabbed onto jjs hand. he grabbed hers and they held each others and squeezed. she knew what he was thinking and she didn't want him to go back to that spot. she didn't want him to remember his father. she didn't want his mind to send him back to there.

they got to jjs house and kiara parked

"home sweet home" jj said and canyon squeezed

"do you want us to come? cause we'll come" kiara exclaimed and jj shook his head

"no, thisll only take a second" he said and he walked to the door. canyon and kiara waited for him and then when he walked out, canyon sat back and looked at them

"how'd it go?" kiara asked and he held up the keys. they began to drive to the location that jj gave them.

"it'll be fine with the phantom. she'll get out of here quick" jj stated and then the cop cars drove by and they hid

"they're still looking its a good sign" kiara said and they continued to drive. they got to shed and jj opened the door as they walked in and looked at the boat

"there she be. hey, girl. a 1983 formula 402 SR1. the phantom, the first boat to make the run to the Bermuda in under 16 hours kie. forty years old! forty and still the fastest thing that kildares ever seen" jj said with a smile on his face.

"its kind of a junker, wouldn't you agree sunshine?" kiara asked as she turned to canyon who shook her head

"no, shes kind of beautiful" she exclaimed and jj smiled happily at her

"thank you cowgirl, she can hear you kie. lets just put it this way. you would not be smoking weed right now if she never existed, okay?" he said and then they heard a bike but when the person walked in, canyon instinctively grabbed jjs arm.

"hey there. whats going on? jj? how you guys doing?" rafe asked and then they heard a whistle

"well,well. see, don't think i forgot about me and you on the side of the road. especially you pretty girl" barry said as he looked at canyon but jj blocked his view.

"I'm here because i want my motherfuckin money" he said and he hit jj as canyon went to leap forward but rafe grabbed canyon and pulled her back

"CANYON" kiara yelled but rafe wouldn't let her go.

"its not you or jj or kiara we want , its john b where is he canyon? i know that you know" he said and canyon balled up her fist as she punched him in the face

"I DON'T FUCKING KNOW" she yelled and that's when rafe put his hand on her throat and choked her.

"you murdered peterkin, you murderer" kiara said and he tightened his grip on canyons throat as she cried out.

"LET ME GO" she yelled and then pope came up with a bar and he hit rafe

"don't touch her" pope yelled and he began to his rafe making them get the upperhand.

"pope that's good, stop, pope" kiara yelled and canyon grabbed his arm as he looked at her and let rafe go. rafe fell to the ground and pope looked at him

"stay off the cut" pope said and they walked to the car together. they got in and they drove to where they needed to put the phantom. canyon sat on the ground as she listened to them speak but she stared at the ground. she could only see rafes bloodied face and pope beating him on repeat

"canyon" she heard someone call and she looked up to see john b standing there looking at her.

"john b" she said and she jumped up as she hugged him and he hugged her back. he held her closely and they held each other. they all watched the two of them, she let him go as john b talked to them. he climbed onto the boat and then he turned to them

"I'm sorry for basically throwing us off a cliff with this whole treasure hunt thing" john b stated

"hey, john b. we were bound to run off a cliff at some point, right? at least we did together, though. pogue style" jj said as he wrapped his arm around canyon

"get out of here" kiara said

"tell sarah i said goodbye okay? and canyon, thank you for being you even when it hurt" he said and he got on as he left. canyon cried into popes shoulder as she watched him go. jj and kiara stood with each other as jj stared at pope and kiara stared at canyon, the two of them couldn't have the one they wanted and that hurt them.

out of nowhere, there was the cops and they all sighed.

"fuck" canyon said and she put her hands up. she listened to shoupe yell at them and she sighed.

"he's gone, god damn it. where the hell is he? jj, yeah i see you're living up to your name. this isn't a fucking game" shoupe yelled at them but canyon scoffed as she sighed. they got put in the car and lead to the tents. they listened, canyon grabbed popes hand and they waited.

out of nowhere, in walked the cops and they all looked at each other as they stood up

"did you find them?" pope asked

"no" he told them

"so they got away?" kiara asked

"we lost them, I'm sorry" shoupe stated and canyon felt the world come crashing down

"you lost them? what do you mean you lost them? like they're gone? what are you talking about?" pope asked

"they took an open boat out into a tropical depression , pope" he said

"they're dead?" kiara asked

"we don't know" he spoke and that's when jj spoke up

"you drove them straight through the storm man. are you kidding me? come here" jj spoke and he went at shoupe.

"pope pope just stop please stop" kiara said and that's when molly and jackson walked in with kiaras parents. they walked over and hugged canyon and then they brought jj in with them as he cried too. she ran her hand over his back and held him close as she let him cry with her. molly kissed her forehead as jackson kissed jjs and they cried together.

she was hurting, more then she ever had but what would happen when she found out that they were alive?

what would she do?

she didn't know but she knew that she was sad and she was hurting.

canyon lost them. they were gone.

she had lost them

my poor poor girl is going to be so sad in season 2 and its going to hurt me so much.

and that's the ending of season 1. i know that canyon and pope arent together but i actually wanted to do a slow burn for once and it only felt right to do it with pope and no one else.
