Chapter Four
my flower girl, the world will only hurt you, but you have them

3rd Person POV

she didn't know what was happening outside of them being a regular group. She had no idea, and no one would tell her. they believed that if they kept it from her, she would stay the same sunshine girl who thought the world was perfect. Nothing would go wrong. she didn't know anything. she knew that she missed her family and she knew that, so when she went home that night. she walked in and sat down on the couch with molly.

"what's wrong, my love?" molly asked, and canyon looked up at her mom. she sighed and leaned her head on her mom's shoulder.

"I feel like the group is keeping something from me, and I don't like it. We're changing; everything is changing. Mom, tells me something, please," she said, and molly sighed as she kissed the girl's forehead.

"oh, my flower girl, the world will only hurt you, but you have them," molly stated, and canyon nodded as she cuddled further into her mother and held her close. The pair stayed there for the rest of the night as canyon fell asleep on her, and molly let her. she allowed the girl to sleep as long as she needed to.

The following day, she woke up, and molly was gone with the car. She noticed that jackson was too, but there sat pancakes on the counter as well as a glass of apple juice and canyon smiled. she ate quickly, and then she walked out into the field.

"blue, stardust!" she called out, and the duo of the cow and the horse came running over to her, and she smiled as she petted them both with a smile. They were hers; clearly, molly and jackson took care of the others.

She got them food and water, brought it over to them, and then sat between them as they sat with her. Blue laid his head on her lap, and she smiled. she fed them as she began to paint again. Canyon soon realized it was the sunset of the first night she and pope hung out together. She blushed as she continued to paint it and heard a noise. She lifted her head as blue did too.

"hey there, flower girl," she heard, and she smiled at pope and the others as they all came walking over and sat with her.

"hey," she said, and pope put his hand out as he petted blue, and blue nudged his hand. Stardust huffed, and Kiara lifted her hand as she patted her too. JJ  watched the three of them as they all sat with the animals and played with them.

"so what up?" she asked, and they looked at her.

"Nothing, we just missed our sunshine girl," Kiara said, and she ruffled the hair on canyons head as canyon smiled at her. she knew that they were hiding things, but she made them feel better, and she wanted to help them feel better.

"so later tonight we are going to something , and yes miss moon i am forcing you to come" Kiara stated and Canyon smiled

"i don't think you have to force me to do anything" she told her and kiara smiled at the girl. they stayed there in the field for a little while until it was about 6;00 pm and they had to head to figure eight. they got chairs as they drove to figure out and kiara led them

"so glad that they're still doing this. keep calm, carry on. back to obx life. arent you guys happy that i made you come?" kiara asked as she set the chairs down with jj, pope and canyon

"ecstatic" pope said and canyon nudged the boy softly as he sighed and then jj spoke up

"i don't know i think my couch was more comfortable" he said and they sat down as kiara got up and walked away. she came back with two pepsis and an orange fanta for canyon. canyon smiled gratefully at the girl

"just saw rafe and he said and i quote, tell your boy that we know what he did. what is that?" kiara asked as she shared a look with canyon who shrugged in the same confusion that kiara was in.

"don't ask me, i haven't seen you since this morning" she told them and then they watched as jj and pope talked to each other for a second.

"I'm sorry, JJ. please tell me that you did not bring a gun here. JJ, there are kids" kiara stated and canyon snapped her head to jj

"gun? okay seriously you guys have been keeping secrets from me and i don't like it. truth now" she exclaimed and the three of them shared a look

"sunshine, i promise we will tell you later" kiara exclaimed

"and for some reason, i don't believe you" she spoke and she turned her head to the screen as she began to ignore them and what they were saying. she stared at the screen and then she felt pope grab her hand and rub his thumb over the back of her hand but she didn't care to even show him that she noticed.

she didn't care or at least she had to act like she didn't. she thought she was apart of the group but now she felt like an outsider and she didn't like it. she then heard jj and pope talking before they got up and canyon looked with kiara

"hey, where are you going?" canyon asked

"we gotta wring it out" jj stated

"what are you gonna hold it for each other?" kiara asked and canyon laughed softly under her breathe as they walked away and she watched. kiara watched the moon girl stare and she smiled.

then all of a sudden, kiara got up and she grabbed the bag. canyon looked at the girl in confusion as she stared

"kie, whats going on?" she asked and kiara made eye contact

"stay here moonie, don't get involved" she stated and she ran off. canyon watched in fear but she waited. she felt like she couldn't do anything, they wouldn't tell her anything and she knew that they wouldn't. she knew that they were hiding something. out of nowhere, the screen got lit on fire and she watched in fear as she stood up and saw kiara with jj and pope standing behind the screen

"GUYS" she yelled and she ran to them as they went home that night. she didn't know what was happening and then again in the morning, when she got to the cut and she looked around, she saw shoupe with pope in handcuffs

"canyon" kiara spoke and canyon looked at the girl in annoyance

"I'm done with the lies and secrets kiara, whats going on?" canyon questioned in confusion and kiara sighed

"can i please please tell you after this?" kiara spoke

"i doubt you will but sure ara. hide for longer" she stated and then they turned back to the group as jj spoke up

"IT WASN'T HIM. it was me. he tried to talk me out of it but i was mad because he had just been beaten up. i was so sick of those assholes from figure out that i lost my shit. i cant let you take the blame for something i did. you've got too much to lose" he said and he shot a short look to canyon

"jj, what are you doing?" pope asked

"I'm tellin the truth. for once in my goddamn life, I'm gonna tell the truth. i took his old mans boat too. he's a good kid. you know where I'm from. this was all me " jj stated

"that's the whole truth?" shoupe asked pope

"whole truth swear to god" jj exclaimed

"I know what you think damn it. I'm asking pope here" shoupe stated

"yeah, that about covers it" pope spoke and shoupe put the cuffs on jj as he got in the car.

"j, come to my house after" canyon called and he nodded. the pair had shared a look, she knew what his dad did to him but she didn't tell anyone. not until he was ready, it was his secret not hers.

they drove off and canyon looked at pope who threw his hat on the ground and he stormed off. canyon watched as she stared and then she looked at kiara

"the truth, now" she spoke and she grabbed aras arm as they began to walk away and kiara began to talk

"it began the day you weren't there. we dropped you off at your house" kiara began and she told the whole thing to canyon. she listened to the story and she sighed.

"sunshine? are you okay?" kiara asked

"i. i don't know ara. i need time" she said and she walked away from the girl. she didn't know where she was going or what she was doing but she knew she couldn't be there anymore. who was she? who were the pogues and what did the group truly mean?

she was hurt and they hid it. they hid the biggest things about the group and what the gold meant for them.

Canyon was sunshine but now there was rain and thunder.

a little look into canyons life: she does have a good home life with molly, jackson, blue, and stardust. she cares about everyone and everything. she knows how to take care of people, and she knows that she can help, which is why they want to protect her from the whole thing and keep her safe from it all.
