Chapter 1

Lenora's pov

'' Come on Lenny. We're gonna miss it'' yells Korbin.

''I know, I know'' I yell back at him. ''I'm flying as fast as I can''

We swoop through the sky. We are heading to my scouting spot. Tonight is supposed to be a special sunset and Korbin didn't want to miss it. I however was much less enthusiastic. I have seen so many sunsets I didn't know what would be so special about this one, but since he is my boyfriend he just had to come along... I just want to get my job done.

I reach my scouting tree first and sit down. We still have about ten minutes until the sun starts setting. Miss it my ass I think. Korbin flies in next to me his black wings folding behind him. He has the dumbest grin on his face. I smile a little too well as long as he is happy. I start dozing off before my shift starts, my head resting on his shoulder.

'' Lenny, hey Lenny'' I hear whispering in my ear but all I do is groan, my eyes remaining closed. ''LENNY WAKE UP!'' I feel a rough shove on my shoulder. My eyes snap open and immediately are filled with amazing colors scarlet, blues, purples, golds. It was incredible. I rub my eyes and notice the person beside me. Korbin's smile has gotten even bigger. I grin and squeeze his hand.

''Thanks Kori. this truly is lovely'' he looks at me. Then looks back at the sky. He stands up brushing off his pants.

''I got to go. You need to work. And i need sleep'' he gives me one last dazzling smile and leaps from the branch, and after a moment or two swoops away into the ever growing darkness. I smile one last time then focus on the work ahead. My eyes cutting through the shadows, watching for the always present poachers on the ground below.
