Chapter five (Lenora's POV)
It's about an hour or so until i spot any sort of movement. It isn't much, just a slight rustling and scuffing of leaves, but its enough. My eyes shoot towards the noise as my hands automatically pull my bow off my back and draw back the string. I squint my eyes, and my vision sharpens I see a shadowy figure crouching in the brush.
I cock my head in confusion. The figure doesn't seem to be sneaking around, in fact they seem to be hiding. Its head is snapping back and forth as if looking for something that may have been chasing it. I see hair whip back and forth and realize that the figure is a girl. I lower my bow, and look around for what could have caused the girl to come all the way to the sky forest.
I jump down, using my wings to start floating slowly down towards the girl shadowed form. it is about two hundred or so feet below my branch. The girl slowly raises her eyes to me as i start dropping faster. my wings make no noise but a faint rustling of feathers.
I land on the ground with a slight thump, but after that my feet make no more noise. the girl pulls herself back towards the tree she was crouching by. She is looking at me with frightened eyes. i look closer at her and see her antlers. Deer? no, elk. i think to myself. but whats an elk doing all the way out here?
i crouch down and realize that the girl cant be much younger than me, maybe a year or so. She looks so much smaller when she is cowering. "Are you lost?" i ask her. She nods and i reach my hand out to her to help her up. She takes it and as she stands she glances again out to the forest.
I glance the same way she does. out of the corner of my eye i see a fast moving shadow. I grab the girl and launch myself into the air. once we are a high enough distance away from the ground i set her down on one of the large branches of my scouting tree. i fly back down without another word, hoping she is smart enough to stay away from the edge.
It's time to hunt
