Matt don't stare at his ass
Will POV
It took us half an hour to get Mellissa to stop crying, and I'm not exaggerating.
Apparently she hates it when we're, "fighting like two male dogs trying to mark the same territory", it was, "so damn stressful I almost peed my pants".
She said this while hugging us, smearing snot on our shirts. I was used to her wild episodes, but Matt curled his lip in disgust when she wasn't looking. The only way to calm her down was to tell her that the golf estate probably had alcohol in it, to that she responded, "you think", she sniffed, "so?" It was like telling a child you'd get them a toy, just to stop them from crying. I nodded, pretending to be sympathetic. I suddenly had a realisation that my best friend was an alcoholic.
But before she could drink herself silly, we had to check if there were any Cannibals on the premises.
"Okay, we'll split up to cover more ground", I told them. Mellissa nodded with red eyes but Matt's face contorted in reluctance. I started wondering if showing him affection was going to make him more overprotective.
We climbed over the tall iron fence and went our sperate ways, Matt's eyes always seemed to flick toward me until I was out of sight. I found two Cannibals standing in a pond. I was weary while approaching them with the knowledge that they could bolt toward me at any moment, but I had to draw them out of the pond because the water would slow me down. I flicked my baseball bat and the metal emitted a sharp ding. Their heads snapped in my direction and they started running toward me. I side-stepped the first one and tripped her while using the momentum to bash my bat into the face of the second one. His head snapped backward and he dropped to the ground like a bag of rocks. The female, who's name tag read "Shana", tried to stand up but I didn't give her an opportunity, when she got to her knees, I slammed my bat against the side of her head and she fell to the side. Blood started trickling down her ear.
"Sorry Shana, but it was you or me." I twirled my bat in the pond to get rid of the blood on it. The last thing I need is blood splattering onto my face in mid-strike.
I continued forward but heard footsteps quickly making their way toward me, I spun around and saw a female Cannibal sprinting toward me with her arms swaying at her sides. I wound back my arms and side-stepped her at the last moment, using her speed to my advantage, and slammed my bat into her face. I heard a crunching sound, I definitely broke her nose, and a snap - telling me that I effectively broke her neck. I didn't find anymore Cannibals in my sector of the premises. I started making my way to the awkward building in the center of the grounds. Once again I heard footsteps behind me, I braced my arms and turned around to see Matt running toward me. I sighed in relief.
Matt walked beside me, shoulder to shoulder. I felt like he was joined at the hip to me. When I subtly tried to move to the side to give myself some modicum of personal space, he moved with me. Showing him affection made him more clingly.
In the distance I saw Mellissa walking toward us, with a smug smile plastered across her face and blood dripping from her sword.
We made our way to the building that stood in the middle of the estate. The first thing I checked for were broken windows. When I found some on the ground floor, I felt slighty assured that the Cannibals from this building were, well used to be, outside. Just to be sure I tapped my bat against the cobblestone path leading to the front door. When no one came outside, Matt opened the front door.
Like I said, this building was trying too hard to be fancy. It had fake plants in the corners of, nearly, every room. The floors were a polished marble and there were knockoff paintings of the British royal family. There were elaborate stairways on opposite ends of the room, leading to the second floor. The patio was ahead of us with obnoxiously massive glass doors that lead to the backyard.
We decided to split up and check the building, yet again, Matt made a sour face at the suggestion, but complied nonetheless.
I chose to check the entire bottom floor - much to Matt's protest - while Matt and Mellissa checked the right and left side of the top floor respectively.
True to my observations, there were no Cannibals on the ground floor. I did, however, find a basement. I didn't like the odds of going in there alone, so I decided to wait for the others to return. I returned to the stairwell and waited patiently.
Mellissa returned first, "This place reeks of fancy", she was clearly uncomfortable.
"Has anyone checked the kitchen?", Matt asked, coming around the corner.
"About that, there's a basement but I didn't want to go in alone. There could be Cannibals in there and I thought you'd have the advantage with a long-ranged weapon", I looked at Matt.
He nodded and I led them to the basement. I was going to tell him to open the door at the count of three but he just yanked it open with a brave face.
"You know he wants to get in your pants, right?", Mellissa whispered.
Matt must've heard her because he had light pink dusted on his tan cheeks before he went in the room. He found, what looked like, an old light switch. The kind that you have to pull for the light to turn on. The room was pitch dark.
I tapped my bat against the concrete walls of the basement, a ding echoed through the basement. When nothing charged at us I made my way over to the light switch that Matt was playing with.
"What is this thing? It must be some kind of rope, maybe there's a secret passage", he said seriously. Mellissa and I just shook our heads in sympathy.
I pulled the string and the room was illuminated. Matt jumped a little in shock, looking around in wonder.
I snorted but said nothing. I looked around the room, compared to the rest of the house, this room was severly under-decorated. The walls were gray from the concrete - no wallpaper or paint - and so was the floor. There were six doors to the right of the room and that was it.
I went to open the first door and saw that these were bedrooms. The room only contained a single bed, pushed into the right corner of the room. Mellissa started sniffling.
"Oh no", I muttered.
She came up beside me, tears silently flowing down her cheeks, her hand on her heart, "Is that a bed? Like a real, actual bed?"
Matt came up beside me so I was jammed in the small doorway between them, he scowled, "Looks like prison-grade stuff."
Mellissa's head snapped in his direction, "You've obviously been sheltered if you can't appreciate this", she hissed at him.
"It's not like I'm going to sleep any better with you sounding like a dying buffalo every night", he hissed back.
Mellissa rolled her eyes, "So I snore a bit, what's the big deal?"
Matt's lip curled in distaste.
I didn't want this to turn into an arguement like the cellphone story, "Well there are plenty of rooms, so at least we get to pick our own. Let's go check what the kitchen has", I made my way up the stairs.
"Matt, don't stare at his ass like that, you're making me uncomfortable", Mellissa scolded. My cheeks started flaming and I cleared my throat, climbing faster.
"I-I wasn't... It's just...there was", Matt tried to defend himself.
"Oh that makes sense", Mellissa mocked him.
