Oikawa sat in his wheelchair, staring out the window at the fallen cherry blossom leaves. During summer, everyone would stare up at the beautiful flowers but come autumn when they would fall and everyone seemed to forget about them and trample over them like they didn't even exist. Oikawa chuckled lowly at the ironic sight before a cold hand touches his left shoulder. He turns to see the same doctor from earlier, his name was... Iwaizumi?

"Oikawa-san," Iwaizumi said softly looking down at the helpless patient, "would you want to go into the gardens with me for a while?"

Oikawa's eyes widened slightly, not expecting a question like that. Nobody ever cared for what Oikawa wants. It was always what he needs: Oikawa needs this pill, Oikawa needs that surgery, Oikawa doesn't need any visitors today . . .

"I can see on your records that you've been inside this hospital for two years straight," Iwaizumi says sympathetically, "you must be lacking vitamin D!"

And there it was . . . It was always for health reasons! Was Oikawa that unbearable to be around? Even the nurses wouldn't sit around and chat with him for long!

Oikawa just shrugged a little and Iwaizumi grabbed the wheelchairs slippery handles with clammy hands. Iwaizumi then strides out of the room with Oikawa wheeled in front of him.

The two reach the gardens and Iwaizumi wheeled Oikawa along the stoney path towards a classic Japanese style gazebo, surrounded by bleeding heart flowers. Oikawa leaned his elbow on the arm rest of his chair and laid his chin on his head in a bored manor. Iwaizumi on the other hand was rather content. He was told that he had some free time and he could spend it with any patient. He wasn't even sure why himself, but he picked to spend his time with Oikawa. What drew Iwaizumi to him? Who knows? Maybe it was the fact that they both were a similar age or-

"So why am I out here?" Oikawa questioned, interrupting Iwaizumi's train of thought, looking unimpressed.

Iwaizumi parked the wheelchair and sat on the stool across from him inside the gazebo. Hajime then runs his fingers through the spikes in his hair in an attempt to tame them and sighed, "I wanted to spend some time with you, I guess. Get to know you... I heard you don't get visitors that much."

Oikawa looked away and sighed, "yeah..." He peaked up and spotted Hajime's name tag and asked, "can I call you 'Iwa-chan'?"

Iwaizumi couldn't help but smirk a little, "sure, why not?" A small smile landed on Tooru's lips and he finally made eye contact with Iwaizumi. Finally, Iwaizumi was getting somewhere! "So em... Why don't you tell me a little about yourself?"

Oikawa scoffed, "what's there to tell? I'm a crippled guy who's future is completely wrecked. And, oh yeah! He's gonna lose his hair too so nobody is going to want to see him or be with him!"

Iwaizumi cringed a little. How could he be so inconsiderate? "Sorry..." He uttered, "well... Did you have any interests before... Your battle..." He was careful to pick his words.

Oikawa looked down at his bare legs. Goose bumps had started to form all over his body, the hospital gowns really didn't give you any heat, "I guess I liked volleyball . . ."

"Ah, I enjoy playing that in my spare time . . ." Iwaizumi stared at the boy with a soft, warming grin, "anything else?"

"Eh... Space?" Oikawa scratched the back of his head, "I don't particularly enjoy talking about myself, Iwa-chan. Why don't you tell me about you?"

Iwaizumi laughed, "My life practically revolves around my work and training at the gym! But I enjoy making agedashi tofu! Do you have a favourite food?"

"It was milk bread," Oikawa sighed, "but the hospital doesn't make it anymore . . ."

The two chatted for around two hours, Oikawa became more open about himself and his feelings and Iwaizumi became more understanding and empathetic toward him, when suddenly the nurse Yachi stumbled through the door.

"Eh . . . Em! Doctor- I mean consultant Hajime! I've to tell you your shift is over now! Shall I take Oikawa back for you?" She nervously stumbled but remained smiling.

"That's all right, Yachi-san," Hajime turned to Tooru, "I'll take him back."

On the way back through the hospital, a few nurses and doctors stared at the scene in front of them. Not meaning too, Oikawa overheard one of the nurses saying, "I've never seen Iwaizumi smile!"

Oikawa bit his lip and stared at his bare legs again, 'why is he smiling? Is it because of me? No, no, of course not!'

Around half an hour later, Oikawa was laying on his bed reading 'The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas' and quietly humming to some unknown song. A small knock was heard from his door (Oikawa's family was rich enough to afford a private room) and Oikawa's head perked up, "enter~!" Hajime slowly opened the door and smiled at the other boy. He walked forward, his hands suspiciously hiding behind his back. "What do you have there, Iwa-chan?" Oikawa asked excitedly and Iwaizumi revealed a few packets of milk bread.

Oikawa's eyes sparkled and his face lit up, "ah, thank you, Iwa-chan!"

"Enjoy, Trashykawa," Iwaizumi snickered before leaving.
