Chapter Fifteen -Tomorrow's Yesterdays-

Sans stood in the fogged-up restroom, thoughts zooming through his mind, something inside his soul felt so conflicted. He had just lost someone close to him an irreplaceable friendship and a possible relationship. He closed his eyes and sighed heavily it's been a full week, he should be over this, but he can't stop the endless thoughts that enter his head. Maybe he should just lay this hope he has down to rest. Outer isn't coming back, their relationship won't fix magically, it's not just some story. He took in a deep shaky breath. He has others he doesn't need to fix himself on Outer. He doesn't need someone who can't hold his hand through this, he doesn't need someone who will weigh him down throughout this.

He gripped onto the small sink counter and opened his eyes. He was met with his pitiful reflection in the foggy mirror, his eyes widened at the sight of tears that had built up. He loosened his grasp on the poor bathroom counter and reached up wiping the fog from the glass. His face more visible in the water streaked glass. He looked awful, bags under his eyes from the lack of sleep, large tired eye lights, and the years the testing and stress has taken off his life etched into his bones. He could only look away from his reflection, maybe he was the coward, asking for someone to walk him to his death hand in hand.

No one needed to do that with him, he won't ask someone to lay down with him and watch him die. He couldn't do that so why should someone half to do that for him, he stepped away from the counter and grabbed a large black shirt, the band name 'BIRD SKULLS' written in large bold letters across the chest. He looked down at the shirt and how it seemed to fall to his knees, well that's to be expected seeing as how Feather is one of the taller Sans' next to G, or rather Gaster Sans and a few others. He grabbed some shorts and slipped those on as well replacing the towel he wore.

He opened the door and walked out, he was met with the same child that had, left the day he fell asleep at the hospital with Feather. He smiled softly; they were sat on his bed playing with another box of band-aids. But this time instead of wearing the straight jacket he had seen him in, he wore something cuter. He was in black tights with sneakers, baby blue overalls with a bright orange undershirt, the cute part of the outfit was the fact he was wearing a sleeveless sweater-like top, almost like a poncho but shorter. It was bright yellow with the faded white design of a cat drawn onto the shirt. A black beanie with a cat pin stapled into the side rested on his skull. His arms were covered in band-aids and so were his cheeks. He looked almost like a dancing rainbow with all those different colored band-aids.

The child looked up hearing the door open, a large smile grew on his once concentrated face. "Mister!" He squealed and bounced on the hospital bed in pure excitement his eyes sparkling with wonder. Sans giggled at this and walked over to him sitting on the end of the bed across from him.

"Just call me Classic." He hummed in a soft but slightly scratchy voice, the child brightened at t this and shifted in their spot.

"Call me Asy! Asy!" Asy squealed and raised the box princess band-aids in the air, he started to scratch at his arms out of excitement, little notches started to form in the bone from the scratching. Asy blinked in confusion as Sans gently grabbed his hands and pulled them away from his arms.

"Careful Asy, don't hurt yourself." He whispered and patted his skull as he let go of his hands, Asy only smiled at him and grabbed at the box of band-aids he dropped on the bed as soon as he started scratching.

"Where is Mister Birdy?" He asked looking around in confusion his bouncing on the bed stopped as he slapped another band-aid on his arm. Sans' smile widened and giggled softly, he looked around the room, in the past week Feather had brought a few things, along with Blue, Red, Paps, Medic, and Ink's family to make the place feel more roomie. It wasn't fully decorated but it looked so much better. He loved the flowers that sat on the bedside table from Blue and Red, the colorfully patched blanket that was made by Ink and PJ. The dark blue pillow made out of Error's strings, The nice new slippers since he lost his in the mess of his room that Medic got him, and finally the picture book Paps brought him to look through when he was bored, and Feather, he brought him all kinds of music to listen to on a small MP3 player and different kinds of books to read. The books lived in the drawer of the bedside table with the picture book, he looked back at Asy and hummed.

"I believe he's at work right now, but he should come by at some point later today." He hummed trying to guess the time of day. He had really slept through most of the day as the new meds they've been giving him made him tired.

"Okay!" Asy giggled and pulled out another Band-Aid, he pealed the wrapping away and stuck the band-aid to Sans' cheek. "Boop." Asy stuck his tongue out after he spoke the simple word, he grinned with his tongue still out. Sans could only smile brighter at this, he may feel awful and look the part, but this child's kindness and sweetness in just putting him in a better mood. He grabbed a band-aid from the box and stuck it to the bridge of Asy's nose after pealing the wrapping away. Asy broke into a fit of giggles. And that one band-aid Classic placed started a whole new war,

The band-aid war.

----

Feather walked down the hall, it was lunch break and Ink had let him try out the portal highway first. It was confusing at first, but he managed to get the hang of it. Ink thanked him on his way through the portal and seemed to set himself back on working. Feather was now making his way to Sans room'. He held two bags of food, in one hand and a cup holder of two drinks and a smaller cup of something. He brought the second drink in case the kiddo was there today.

He looked around the busy halls, people walk around and chatting, hospital room doors were open, and people inside seemed lively as ever. Children sat in the break between the light blue painted hallway walls. It was filled with toys and stuff, a small slide sat in the middle of the room, and a large colorful carpet decorated the floor. Two large bookshelves sat against the walls of the room filled to the brim with books. Human and monster children alike ran around playing and talking. Parents sat on the benches that were pushed into the back of the room, nurses and other staff were sat not too far away from the room watching the children in case of any emergency.

Feather chuckled softly and shook his head at the sound of the children's cheers and laughter. Everything seemed rather happy today, no gloom or anything just a good day, he couldn't help but smile at this as he walked to his desired destination. He was normally dressed for the cold as flying can get pretty cold, but this time he was just dressed in some baggy jeans, sneakers, and a black sweater, his normal goggles and black gloves on as usual.

He stopped at the door of Sans' room; the blinds were closed blocking any view from the large window. But the door stood wide open, he could already hear laughs and giggles, he smiled and slowly entered the room. He snorted and bit back a loud laugh as he saw the two skeletons on the bed.

The two skeletons were covered in band-aids from head to toe, Sans had Asy caught in a hug and placing band-aids on his skull, making it look like he had whiskers. He had never seen so many empty boxes of band-aids in his life, and he honestly had no idea where they came from or how they got so many. But when he looked at Sans it was getting harder to hold back his laughs, Sans' cheeks were covered in band-aids and a few sat on his skull in random places, a few band-aids even looked like an eyebrow arching over his right eye socket. Both their arms were covered in band-aids, the colors all clashed with each other which didn't help the mess they had made of each other.

Feather couldn't hold back his laughter any longer as he broke into a deep hearty laugh, he walked over to the two skeletons who had stopped their antics to see who had laughed. Feather set the two bags of food down on the bed and pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat down. Sans looked at Feather with a bright smile and Asy giggled and waved.

"Hey, Mister Birdy!" Asy cheered and laid on Sans' lap, Feather handed him a small cup, filled with a strawberry smoothie he had made earlier. Asy squealed a thank you and started to drink the smoothie happily.

"'Nah problem kid'a." He chuckled and handed Sans a bag of food and a cup of coffee, iced coffee. Sans smiled softly and held the coffee, he looked up at Feather and took a sip of his coffee.

"So, Feather." He hummed catching the tallers attention, his smile only widened, "How did you know I liked iced coffee." Feather snorted at the sass he was getting over a cup of coffee; he rolled his eyes which made Sans laugh.

"'Ya tired rambl'ns when 'ya just go on 'bout one 'thang." He chuckled as Sans took a long sip of coffee a gentle look surprise on his face. He pulled the cup away from his mouth,

"You pay attention to those?" He asked with a questioning grin on his face, Feather just nodded and took a sip of his own coffee, he closed his eyes listening to Asy's giggles, he only opened one of his eyes when he heard Sans huff.

"Asy, you have ice cream all over your face," Sans muttered and grabbed a napkin out of his bag of food. He cleaned Asy's face-off, who looked confused but didn't seem to mind too much, Sans booped his nose, leaving a bit of ice cream on his nose. Asy giggled and shook his face and patted at his nose. Feather smiled at the two, he never really noticed this before, but Sans really can be like a mom at times. The way he takes care of everyone and shows and unadulterated affection for everyone it really adds to the safe feeling around him. He hummed softly and drank some more of his coffee. He just makes everything so peaceful, guess that's what he likes about him so much. "Thank you for bringing lunch Feather." Sans' voice pulled him away from his thoughts, he looked at Sans and smiled a small blue-tinted blush sprinkling his cheeks.

"'Course lass." He hummed and set his coffee down on the bedside table and hummed, he leaned back into the chair. He smiled as Sans started to eat and chat quietly with Asy who slurped down the rest of his smoothie.

---

The time seemed to fly and before he knew it, he was in his hospital room all alone again, to fill the time he actually took Ink's advice on writing or drawing. He let his heart flow through his pen as he wrote. Each word, he sighed as he finished his work, a small pome written out messily on the thin, once blank paper. He clipped the pen into the clipboard he had been using and set it on the bedside table. He just wishes time would move faster, he hates being alone in this room, it just makes everything feel that much more crushing. His arm thankfully healed from the fracture, but the tiny scar that was left still bothered him. Silly he knows, but his arm would've never been broken and needed healing if he didn't fall and just got Papyrus.

He sighed heavily, thank goodness for magic or his poor arm would still hurt, just like the rest of his bones when he's off his Morphine drip. He hummed softly Paps sadly couldn't come today as work would be running late into the night. Feather might just go home, Asy has to stay in his room at night since that one night he found him on the floor. And he can't count on Outer coming.

He leaned into his bed and looked at the ceiling, the blank white ceiling did nothing to help ease his racing mind. He closed his eyes and started talking to himself, voicing his thoughts,

"I just want a nice, easy life. What's wrong with that?" He mumbled and scratched at the IV taped to his hand. The sun was just setting as the evening came upon them, the sunset here was always so pretty. It's why he wanted to move here one day if he could, he just loved everything about the city. He could feel the sun kissing his bones gently warming them along with the blanket he had sloppily tossed over himself. "I want to turn back the clock to before all of this...before this whole mess even started. Maybe...maybe if I just something different." He muttered and shook his head and sighed once again. He slowly opened his eyes and rolled onto his side. He jolted at the sound of a voice echoing from the open hospital door. He looked at the door,

Feather stood at the door, a soft smile on his face, "Really? I wouldn't trade 'meh time of 'da past fer anything in 'da whole world." His accent wasn't as thick, but it was still there, Sans looked away from Feather as he walked over to him.

"Nothing is THAT important." He mumbled, he saw nothing that was so important in his past that he couldn't just let go, it all hurt to think about anyways.

"Is 'da so? Are 'ya sure 'bout 'dat? Would 'ya trade 'dis fer something else? Change 'da past and 'ya change everything lass." He spoke softly his voice smooth and soothing as he spoke, he rubbed Sans' arm. "You can't be left a-lone fer two seconds can 'ya?" He chuckled and shook his head, Sans sat up and looked up at Feather.

"Sorry," Sans whispered and looked away from Feather again, he stared at the floor in shame, he glanced at Feather as he chuckled.

"'Dats not a bad thing lass. 'S normal, 'wit stress like 'dis." He hummed and grabbed Sans' hand gently. "Falla me." He hummed and grabbed the IV Stand lifting it up and placing it next to me. Sans slowly stood up in confusion, Feather held onto his hand as he led him out of the hospital room. Once out of the room he stretched out his wings and let one wing hover over Sans.

"Where are we going?" He mumbled and looked around the dimly light halls, Feather just grinned and lead Sans down the halls. Holding the IV stand up all the while as he traveled. He pushed open to large double doors, the outside of the hospital, but still hospital grounds, it was lit with fairy lights, a table filled with food laid in the middle of it all, people were dancing around the field to the sound of music. Sans' eyes widened as he looked around at everyone, dancing and having fun. He looked up at Feather who lead him to the crowd, Medic was standing before it all a large smile on his face.

"Feather! There you are, I see you retrieved Classic!" He grinned, "Welcome to the party!" He presented proudly and giggled softly, "We put it together for all the patients stuck in their hospital rooms all day. So, go have fun!" Medic ushered and gently pushed Feather and Sans into the crowd way too excited to keep the party going.

"This is...amazing," Sans muttered and looked around at the beautiful lights entranced in everything he came across. His bad mood melting away with the light of the party. Feather could only smile and guide Sans around. After a few moments of wandering around Feather hummed along to one of the songs playing. He looked at the crowd of people dancing.

Feather looked down at Sans who was just looking around in excitement, Sans looked up at Feather a bright smile on his face. Feather chuckled softly and pulled away from Sans folding his wings again. He bowed being careful about the IV stand still in hand. "Care fer a dance?" Feather asked grinning as Sans snorted and took the hand Feather stretched out in front of him.

"Why of course!" He only busted into giggles as Feather spun him around and pulled Sans to the dancing area. Setting the IV stand down carefully next to them Sans couldn't help but laugh as Feather tried to figure out how to dance by watching the others around him. Sans rolled his eyes, "Follow my lead." he hummed and guided Feather, still just as clumsy as the other but slightly better. They both laughed at each other as they tried not to fall or step on the other's feet or bump the IV stand.

They looked around at the sound of a squeal, a child bolting up to them, Asy. He bounced around and held a rabbit plush in his hands. "Hey!" He squealed and hugged Sans' waist being too small to reach any higher.

"Hey Asy," Sans greeted softly and patted his head, he stepped back from Feather, Asy giggled and looked up at Feather, "Hello Mister Birdy!"

Feather snorted at the name he's been given and shook his head, "Hello, Asy." He hummed and ruffled his skull. "Want 'ta dance?" Feather grinned as Sans snorted, Asy nodded and held up his hands. Feather chuckled and took ahold on his tiny hands, "Up we go!" He hummed and lifted Asy slightly setting him on his feet. Sans moved his IV stand out of the way and watched the two spin around as Asy cheered.

Gosh if Sans had a phone, he would take a picture right about now, he smiled fondly at the two and jolted at the sound of a snap. He looked next to him to see Medic standing next to him with a polaroid in hand, the photo printed out and Medic took it shaking it a few times before handing it to Sans. "Have fun!" Medic cheered and waved as he walked away, taking more pictures and giving them to people. Sans giggled and looked at the picture, the moment frozen in time, oh how he loved it.

A yip escaped his mouth as Feather grabbed his hand and pulled him back over catching the IV stand as it was dragged over. He grabbed Sans' hand again as he set the IV stand down. Asy was standing on one shoe holding Feathers other hand.

"Dance with us!" Asy giggled and grabbed Sans' free hand tugging him over, Sans snorted and sighed as he followed Feather's clumsy lead.

"What am I going to do with you dorks?" Sans muttered and shook his head,

"Well, 'ya could dance 'wit us." Feather hummed and spun Sans around,

"And love us! Lots of love!" Asy cheered and burst into giggles as he was spun around as well. Sans smiled at the two and nodded, he kissed Asy's forehead and then Feather's cheek.

"Alright, if that's what you want, I'll do just that."

---

The paper on the bedside table sat their peacefully, the room was undisturbed as the party outside didn't seem to reach the now empty room. A starry skeleton slowly entered the room. He looked around and gripped the door frame gritting his teeth, he took a deep breath and walked into the room. He glanced at the paper and picked up the clipboard. Reading the paper,

'Tomorrows Yesterdays:

As I walk down this lane of memories

I can only wish I hadn't spoken yesterday

That I had kept my mouth shut

But it only seems that "I Do's" and unkept promises spill from my lips

It makes me wish that I could take away Yesterday's Tomorrows

And all future days

Leaving me in black and peace

Where my words will remain quite

I wish I had not done what I wanted to yesterday

But I had let my head follow my heart

Instead of my heart following my head

And now my back is weighted with the regrets of Tomorrows yesterdays

So, I will close my eyes and lay down in defeat

Sealing my lips shut because of my mistakes

I try to fade but my body stays

Why does Tomorrow still come and yesterday still seem to be there

The memory of days seem to scare me

And the regrets of time break my heart

Hoping to fade to gray but my body still stays

One day I will lock my heart in stone

Never to be seen behind those walls

A flood of hurt and emotions, I will fade

It is better not to feel Yesterday's Tomorrows then Tomorrows yesterdays

I wish not to choke on the blood that builds

So, I will fade into the silence

And wait to be healed

I wish to sleep and never awake

With spoken mistakes that everyone says they make

But mine only seem to break me down

While I try to build myself up like a tower of cards

I fall.'

Outer could feel tears well in his already tired eyes as he finished the pome echoing the last part, "I fall." he muttered and shook his head, "Oh, Classic....what have I done...why do I always seem to say what hurts the most." He whispered and set the clipboard down, he grabbed the pen from under the clip and scribbled out messy words on the bottom of the page.

He slowly set the pen down and back away from the bedside table, the room looked so much better from when he last saw it. "I always end up doing the same thing don't I?" He muttered and walked away, shaking his head. Leaving the room once again he disappeared into the hospital halls.

'But mine only seem to break me down

While I try to build myself up like a tower of cards

I fall---

Into the arms of a friend,

I will be here when morning comes,

My words a silly mistake of fear.

I will always still care.

Even if it means you dying in my arms

I will hold you close.

I will listen to all your favorite songs as you pass and leave me here.

And when the room is quite late at night and our song comes on,

I will stand with my arms out

And start to dance with your ghost.

My love,

I wish I was brave enough to love you.'
