Chapter Eleven -Job and Kisses-
Last night had been quite the emotional rollercoaster with him and Papyrus but things were better for now. They had at least worked some things out now and the tension wasn't so bad anymore. After that, Papyrus had asked if he knew what jobs he was looking for, Sans managed to get Blues help in getting a job at the cafe they had visited. Tomorrow would be the interview, which was Blues almost instant response. He also got a few texts from Outer and they ended up chatting for a while.
After an hour of texting back and forth Outer and Sans agreed to meet up at the local park in Sans' AU on Thursday, today was Tuesday and tomorrow would be Wednesday. Hopefully, all went well, and he and Outer didn't have to cancel on their plans like what had happened many times before. Sans quickly went to bed after taking some medicine, excited for the new day to start. Who knows maybe his luck would start to change with his new job and things would go his way for once.
---
Sans stood in front of the mirror in Blue's room looking himself up and down trying to assess his new outfit. He could see Blue beaming behind him in the mirror as Sans flattened out his sweater a small smile on his face. He did like the little planet patch that sat on the soft colored, light green sweater. The skirt paired nicely with the sweater and didn't pop out too much or draw too much attention to him just the way he liked it. The skirt was a light gray with a plaid design to it and a black waistband that hugged his waist comfortably. Blue had given him a pretty cute outfit, to say the least, and the added stockings and boots made everything even cuter, he had black stockings that tucked under his skirt perfectly. His light grey boots had two grey buckles on it for design and added to his height only slightly. Sans did a small twirl his smile widening, he loved it and it was the kind of outfit he needed for the Cafe he was going to. He spun around to look at Blue, his movements slightly sluggish with his aching joints but he managed.
"I love it! I think this outfit will definitely help me get the job!" Sans clapped his hands together in excitement and gave Blue the biggest smile he could muster. Blue seemed to light up at this as he quickly threw his arms around Sans and hugged him. Sans winced slightly at the increased pressure on his bones, Blue slowly pulled away looking excited as ever.
"I'm so happy you like it! I picked it out with Grillby's Cafe's theme in mind! I even had Grillby help me pick out the outfit and made sure it matched your style perfectly! I even talked to Grillby for you, there's no way you can fail this!" Blue bounced in excitement, the largest smile on his face, his baggy baby blue sweater bunched up in his little gloved hands, and his black denim jeans had the cuffs folded neatly as to show off his baby blue tennis shoes. Blue looked adorable, to say the least, it was also a huge comfort to know he had a friend there for him if he needed it. Sans giggled softly and nodded confidently, giving Blue a quick high five they both left the room ready to go to the Cafe!
Sans stopped at the front door and waited for Red and Blue to say their goodbyes, he smiled at the couple as they gave each other a quick kiss and muttered sweet words to one another before they parted. Blue opened the front door and waved to Red as him and Sans left for their busy day. Blue grabbed Sans' hand and led him to the cafe once again, skipping as he walked along the busy sidewalk street. The quiet buzz of chatter rang out peacefully, slowly drowning in the sound of cars rushing by, zooming down the street to their destinations or the next stoplight. The smell of street food filled the air, small food carts stood proudly on the sides of the sidewalk, young monster and humans trying to spark interest in others to check their food out.
It was the early morning the sun just now rising from its slumber, casting a beautiful pink and blue hue over the city. Store signs and city lights flashing all their respective colors, it was a picture-perfect scene, shame he didn't have a camera on him. Blue weaved through the busy sidewalk with easy dragging Sans behind him as he walked, the cute and cozy Cafe soon coming into view. It sat on a street corner, the building really seemed to just fit with all the other bright colored stores, but at the same time popped out with its peaceful and cute aesthetic.
Blue quickly ushered through the archway of flowers and white painted wood into the Cafe before him. Sans didn't even have a second to prepare what he was going to say, Blue dragged him all the way straight to the counter where Grillby stood a large smile on his face. Sans huffed slightly, the ache in his bones growing from all that fast-paced walking, or rather being dragged and trying to keep up.
"Classic! Hello! Welcome! Nice to finally meet you! I've heard so much about you from Blue! I would say meet me in the back for your interview, BUT! I've taken some time and decided with as much as Blue told me, why bother! You're hired! We're happy to have you on the team! Make yourself at home and get to know your coworkers! And don't worry, Blue told me ALL about your condition! We're more than happy to help you and compensate for your troubles!" Swap Grillby spoke almost to fast for Sans to keep up as he aggressively shook his hand. Sans could only nod and slowly pull his hand away as Sway Grillby let go, Sway Grillby seems a bit too long of a name, Sans thought for a moment as to what he could call his new boss.
He looked at him with a smile and thanked him as he thought, the fire elements glasses catching his eye. Perfect! He'll call him Swirl! It fits his eccentric personality perfectly and he doesn't think Swirl would mind the nickname all the much either.
"Thank you so much, sir! I'll do my best; I really appreciate this." Sans spoke softly keeping his excitement to a professional level. Swirl just laughed and tugged Sans behind the counter, opening a little gate that acted as a counter at some points to let Sans in. Blue following close behind and shutting the small gate behind them.
"Don't bother with that sir stuff! Call me whatever you like, this place is all about being close and like family! We're happy to have you here! See, we're really hurting for employees now and someone like you is JUST who we need to spice up the atmosphere!" Swirl announced proudly while he patted Sans' shoulder. Sans nodded a small laugh escaping him, he was surprised by Swirl's generosity. Swirl then dismissed himself to allow Sans to get to know the other employees. Blue started to giggle as soon as Swirl left back to his post at the cash register.
"See! I told you! I just knew you would get the job; I just knew it!" Blue hugged Sans but more gently this time, his excitement sending off this peacefully happy aura as he bounced around. Sans hummed in excited agreement and hugged Blue back.
"I couldn't have done it without you Blue! After all, you're the one that set all of this up for me, you're a lifesaver, thank you so much!" Sans hugged Blue a little tighter and gave him a big smile as thanks. Blue just waved it off as nothing and quickly pushed Sans off to meet his coworkers so he could rush off to work. Sans waved Blue goodbye as he left in a hurry as to not be late for work, not that he ever was, he just made it a strict policy to never be late. Sans sighed and looked around, it was surprisingly clean back here for a coffee shop, he would expect more coffee stains or toppings to be laying around the place. Sans the small area looking at all the different coffee machines, blenders, pints of milk, and toppings.
He picked up a few bottles reading them briefly before setting them down and moving on to the next. Hearing footsteps enter the small kitchen area Sans looked up to see a much taller skeleton, large jet-black wings folded neatly on his back, large goggles sitting just above his eyes. The skeleton blinked looking at Sans in surprise, he quickly cleared his throat and adjusted his dark grey jacket. Sans gave him a small smile and a wave, this cracked a smile onto the bird-like skeletons face as he waved back, he tugged at his dark blue sweater and adjusted his baggy jeans.
"So, are you working here, or did you happen to just get lost looking for personal?" The tall skeleton joked, his voice was deep and rough but seemed to flow smoothly enough when he talked. Sans laughed quietly and set the bottle he was holding down, he watched as the skeleton tossed his jacket onto a coat rack and grabbed a large apron tying it around his waist. The apron was a pretty bright blue with the shop's logo printed onto and a huge pocket on the front to hold what looked like a table and some straws.
"I work here now actually, I was just hired today, my name's Classic, I don't believe we've met before." Sans hummed softly and stuck his hand out for the feathery skeleton to shake, a boney hand quickly grasped his if a firm but soft grasp and shook Sans hand before pulling away.
"Name's Feather, nice 'ta meet 'ya, it's nice 'ta finally seem some new faces around 'ere." Feather seemed to melt into a lazy tone as he relaxed, he leaned on an empty preparing counter and shoved his hands into his pockets.
"Yeah, I'm excited, to say the least, it's been a while since I've worked 'n all. This is will be a good chance for me, I'm looking forward to it." Sans hummed to himself a small smile decorating his face. Feather nodded and looked back at the shop entrance as the bell rung softly signaling someone had entered the cozy little coffee shop.
"Welp looks like we got some business, grab 'yer self an apron and I'll show 'ya the ropes." Feather gestured to the aprons lines up on hooks in the indented walls, Sans grabbed one without a name tag. He quickly grabbed a sharpie and a name tag from the small metal holder screwed to the soft pink and white tiled wall. He quickly wrote his name down and stuck it to the chest of the apron. Throwing the apron on quickly he tied around his waist and joined Feather at the counter as a tall human, with dark skin walked up to the counter. His glasses slightly falling down his nose as he walked up to the counter. He smiled at Sans and Feather and stopped in front of them.
"Hi, can I have a Brandy Hopper, with light cream and whipped cream?" He asked in a soft and sweet tone, it was easy to tell he was still a teenager, still learning his way around the world. He also seemed to be a usual customer as he knew exactly what he wanted as soon as he walked in. Feather gave him a firm nod and pulled out a small tablet showing Sans how to use it as he typed in the drink order.
"Hot or cold?" Feather asked softly looking up from the tablet to meet the dark gentlemen's brown piercing eyes. The kid seemed thoughtful for a moment, as he glanced at the menu for just a moment.
"Hot!" He chirped a bright smile on his face, Feather nodded and typed that into the tablet and sent the order straight to the to Swirl who seemed to make all the hot drinks in the establishment.
"Your order will be ready in just a moment sir, can I have a name to write down, also what size cup would you like?" Feather seemed to be very soft and gentle while talking with the nervous teen who promptly told Feather his name and what size cup he'd like. Feather noted it down on the cup and had the gentlemen sit himself down while he waited for his drink to be made. Sans looked over at Swirl as hopped around the kitchen making the drink and then heating it up with his own magic. A cute little coffee so it seemed with a touch of magic, that had to taste amazing. He did get a cold coffee last time he was here, but he thinks an ice monster cooled it because while he drank it he felt a small surge of cool magic rush through him while he drank his coffee.
Swirl skipped over to Sans and Feather placing the finished pitcher of coffee on the counter. Sans thanked him and picked up the heated pitcher before Feather could get to it, he gently poured the coffee into the cup as added the ordered toppings, making a cute little design with them. Feather snorted softly at Sans' little coffee illustration and gently patted his back, Sans giggled to himself and snapped the lid onto the cup poking a straw through the hole in the lid.
He called the boy's name out and held the drink out for him as the kid quickly retrieved his drink, upon seeing the illustration made in the coffee the teenager lit up and thanked Sans and Feather for the coolest cup of coffee. Sans couldn't help but smile and nod in appreciation waiting excitedly for the next customer. Not to soon after that thought a tall kid walked in with piercing blue eyes, he walked behind the counter and grabbed an apron off the rack with the name 'Cody' written in curly letters on the name tag. Cody glanced at Sans then at Feather in confusion, he tilted his head and waved at the two.
"Hey, I assume you're gonna be the newbie here then? Nice to meet you...Sans, I'm Cody!" Cody greeted happily and shook Sans' hand happily, having to pause mid-sentence to read Sans' name tag. "Oh, and before you freak out, I use magic, yeah, the monsters kinda sparked magic up all over the world when they were set free. I just so happened to be so lucky as to get magic. I'm the one that makes all the cold drinks around here as I can use ice magic!" Cody did jazz hands laughing slightly at his big announcement, his ice-blue eyes lighting up in excitement. Sans smiled brightly at Cody,
"Really? That's so cool, never heard of a human receiving ice magic before!" Sans spoke in excitement as he looked at the kid in wonder. Cody smiled sheepishly and thanked Sans, scratching the back of his neck. After that the day went on, as usual, taking orders and making drinks, while Sans made little designs in the coffee and called out names. Sans had made a habit of asking people what the liked before drawing it into the coffee, it seemed to brighten everyone's day as they received a cool little personalized drink.
The day soon ended, and it seemed far too soon in Sans' opinion, but none the less, his aching bones screamed for some relaxation time. He waved his coworker's goodbye and met Blue in front of the shop, both ranting about their days at work while Blue led Sans to his home. Later after some talking, they reached the blue-clad skeleton's house where he portal-ed Sans home for the day.
---
Sans sat on a bench in the park of his and Outers agreed to meet up spot. He tapped his fingers on his legs while he waited for the starry skeleton. Sans checked the time for the fifth time, maybe he was just really early, was it bad to be this early? Sans fidgeted nervously with the sleeves of his little coat, it wasn't his normal, go to blue jacket. It was a pretty coat that fell down to his knees, it was a denim blue. A cute marron undershirt with it, and a floral skirt with a bow that hugged the skirt to his waist. His stockings fell around his white and black laced sneakers lazily.
He sighed his bones starting to ache again, he could feel his drowsiness crashing down on him. He shook his head lightly brushing off the feeling best he could, he came out here to have fun! He was so sucked into his thoughts he didn't hear the loud footsteps walking towards him, he yelped softly when someone tapped his shoulder. Ripped out of his thoughts he looked up at the person that tapped his shoulder startled. He sighed in relief seeing it was just Outer, just more fixed up and dressed up.
"You scared me!" Sans giggled and smiled at Outer as he sat next to him, Outer wore his same star themed jacket, but had a black sweater underneath, with some jeans and sneakers. He sported a large smile and a small purple blush.
"Sorry about that, I tried saying your name but you seemed out of this world." Outer joked his smile shifting into a sly smirk at his pun. Sans laughed and shook his head rolling his eyes as he glanced up at the sky for a moment, his eyes slowly drifting back to Outer.
"Can't hear you, I'm Neptune-ing you out." Sans retorted and smiled softly at the sound of Outer's laughing, then telling him that was clever in a soft voice between laughs. Sans giggled and nodded, he blinked when Outer suddenly pushed himself off the bench.
"Well, let's go for a walk, are you up to it?" Outer asked softly and reached his hand out for Sans to take. Sans sighed and nodded gently grabbing Outer's hand allowing the other to help him up. Outer pulled Sans up but stumbled back as Sans yelped coming off the bench much easier than he thought he would. He blinked in surprise grabbing Sans' arms gently stabilizing him, he looked Sans over. The other felt much lighter than he remembers, he sighed heavily and pushed it to the back of his mind. He won't ruin the mood by reminding Sans of how sick he is. "Woops sorry about that buddy, to much strength there." Outer chuckled and patted Sans' shoulder.
"It's fine, s' fine, where are we going?" Sans questioned looking around the bustling park, children running around giggling while parents and friends chatted. Dogs running around and playing with their owners or couples on their first or more date. Sans smiled and took everything in this place was just so beautiful. He never thought the surface would be this pretty, in all his years he had dreamed it would be pretty but not breathtaking. Sans smiled softly and glanced at Outer catching the other staring. Before Sans could say anything Outer quickly looked away a soft purple blush tinting his cheeks.
"N-Not anywhere special! Just for a small walk around the park while we catch up!" Outer suddenly sputtered and started walking. He shoved his hands into his pockets as he lead the way down the cobblestone path. Sans just smiled and followed Outer, he walked with a small limp, the leg that had a small lump on his seemed to ache the more he walked. Sans shrugged it off again ignoring how bad his leg really hurt as he followed Outer. "What have you been up to?" Outer asked softly looking behind him for a moment, to look at Sans.
"Well, Blue recently got me a job at this cafe, Feather works there, despite what people may think he's actually really nice! Oh! And I've been cleaning a lot recently, cooking as well and I just have to say I'm not half bad." Sans stated proudly grinning at Outer who chuckled in response.
"Sounds like fun, you'll have to cook for me sometime." Outer hummed and tilted his head up towards the sky as he walked. Sans nodded even if Outer wasn't looking at him he knows Outer got the message.
"What about you?" Sans asked softly clasping his hands behind his back as he walked, looking up at Outer who hummed in thought.
"Well, I wish I could say my life has been as exciting as yours but unfortunately I cannot." He chuckled and sighed, "I've just been doing work, and the same old stuff. This is the only out of the 'norm' thing I've done so far." Outer put air quotes around norm moving, he glanced at Sans with a warm smile. Sans just smiled back a soft blush decorating his cheeks as they walked and talked about how things have been going.
---
Sans' limp got worse over time now starting to slow him down, the ache becoming unignorable, he quickly spotted a bench. He glanced at Outer who seemed lost in the clouds he thanked Asgore for that. "Hey, Outer mind if we take a small break?" Sans' voice was more strained than he meant it to be, but it wasn't too noticeable. Outer glanced at him than at the bench the skeleton quickly nodded and walked to the bench. Sans quickly sat on the bench taking any pressure off his legs just letting himself rest for now.
Outer looked at him worriedly for a moment but brushed it off yet again. He didn't want Sans to be sick like this, it was hard to accept and seeing him go from fine to ill just made his soul ache. Sans just hummed to himself trying to ignore the ache in his joints as he pressed into the back of the bench. Outer held back a heavy sigh and looked away from Sans watching people walk by chatting about different things.
It was so peaceful here, no one would've guessed how sick Sans actually was seeing how well he blended into the peaceful aura. Outer leaned into the bench and looked over at Sans watching the smaller. He was so cute the was he kicked his feet back and forth watching others walk by with a smile on his face. He seemed so happy now and Outer couldn't be more proud of Sans and how far he's come in life. He had to give props to the lazy skeleton he's really come far and is really making the most out of things. Outer heaved in a breath and relaxed a little, just seeing Sans so happy made his soul ache a little less.
---
The sun started to tuck itself behind the horizon getting ready for bed so the moon could shine bright. The sky was a beautiful mix of pink and orange, lighting up the clouds perfectly and sending a soft, warm glow over the park. Sans basked in the lighting of the sun twirling around slowly, his joints still aching, causing his moments to slow. Outer chuckled and watched as Sans took in a deep breath letting out a dreamy sigh just standing in the light of the sunset. It was cute how Sans seemed to have a deep appreciation of everything the world had to offer.
Outer moved to stand next to Sans, looking at his phone he huffed as he finally got a text back from Ink. Outer would be picked by whenever he was ready and Sans was dropped off at his house safe and sound. Ink and his overprotective motherly side, Outer shook his head softly and smiled.
"Ready to go Classic?" Outer asked softly pushing his phone into his pocket, Sans looked over at him and nodded.
"Yeah, let's get going Pappy probably has dinner ready now anyway." Sans hummed and started walking to the exit of the park. Outer trailing behind him, thankfully the park exit wasn't too far away and Sans' -well more so Papyrus' car- sitting in the parking lot for the park. Outer grabbed the keys from Sans and got into the driver's side. Sans quickly hopped into the front passenger's seat, Outer rolled the convertible top down, turning the radio up as he started to back out his parking spot. Sans smiled as Outer pulled out into a small street, the wind was soothing, not to warm and not too cold just right. The music was a nice touch to the quiet sound of the road as Outer sang along tapping out the beat on the steering wheel.
Soon Outer pulled out onto the freeway, the park wasn't too far away he just wanted to spend as much time with Sans as possible. He glanced over at said skeleton a wide smile spread across his face. As soon as it got to the bridge leading to Mount Ebott, Sans sat up straighter raising his hands slowly, letting the wind whip at his face. The light from the sunset had died down in a dim glow, the bridges fairy lights were lit up, blinking softly in no particular pattern. The dark starry sky mixed with the last dwindling lights of the sunset.
Making the scene picture perfect. If only he could take a picture right now, he would've taken a million by now, Sans was just breathtaking in the soft glow of the fairy lights on the bridge and dim glow of the sunset. The smile on his face was so heartwarming, his beauty unable to be described by words.
Outer felt heat rising to his cheeks as he kept glancing at Sans, the skeleton quickly caught his gaze and giggled smiling brightly at Outer. "Beautiful isn't?" Sans questioned loudly over the sound of the radio and gently lashing wind. Outer could only nod his blush getting worse, and his words stuck in his throat. He felt his soul thump just from the way Sans smiled at him and the sound of his laugh. Oh, how he loved this quirky little skeleton sitting so happily next to him, yelling the words out to his favorite song playing on the radio.
---
Outer slowly pulled into the drive of Sans' house, he turned the car off and got out, circling over to the passenger side. He opened Sans' door helping Sans get out of the car, Sans just smiled at him and quietly thanked him. Outer nodded and guided Sans up to his front door, dropping his car keys into his hands.
"This was fun, I really appreciate it Outer. Let's hang out sometime soon, okay?" Sans spoke softly, Outer nodded again, his soul thumping faster as Sans leaned up to his cheek pressing his mouth to his cheek in a soft kiss. Sans pulled away from his cheek his face lit up in a soft blue blush. Outer's face was quickly consumed by his famous purple blush as what had just happened sunk in.
"Yeah! Let's h-hang out again!" Outer sputtered again embarrassed, his hand slowly rising to his cheek, grazing the spot Sans had kissed. Outer jumped as Sans started to laugh so suddenly, his blush getting worse the longer he laughed. Outer's embarrassment grew as he watched the skeleton he loved so much crack up at his embarrassment. "What are you laughing at?!" Outer whined glaring softly at Sans who wiped invisible tears from his eyes.
"Sorry, sorry! You were just so cute I couldn't help it!" Sans giggled finally calming down, a large smile resting on his face, Outer huffed once more and rolled his eyes crossing his arms.
"Right, well, I have to go now Giggle. Goodbye." Outer mumbled, Sans couldn't help but giggle at the nickname Outer gave him, the giggle suiting well to the nickname. Outer just shook his head with a small smile and kissed Sans' cheek. "Goodbye." Outer whispered softly before walking away to get picked up by Ink.
Sans' face felt as though it was on fire, he cupped the cheek Outer kissed, holding in a squeal as he quickly walked inside, sputtering a goodbye to Outer. Sans gently closed the door behind him and let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding all this time. He smiled softly and shook his head,
"Silly skeleton."
