It was awhile after the shopping trip. Tubbo rambled on about foods and snacks and drinks that Ranboo would probably like, and the taller was kind of surprised when he actually did. Well, he was surprised. Until he remembered he and Tubbo have discussed what they like to eat and such.
Now, they were hanging out in Tubbo's house, scheming about what they should do next.
"Calm down, Tubbo." Tommy snickered at the boy who couldn't stop fidgeting. "We'll be here for a month, we don't need to tire ourselves out all at once."
"A month? Oh, right. From April to May, right?" Tubbo turned his gaze to Ranboo, who nodded with a smile. "Ohhh. Okay."
"Hey, I know what we can do!" Tommy smirked, earning curious glances from the other two boys. "There's a park not too far from here, right, Toob?"
"TOOB! GET READY, BITCHES, WE'RE GOING TO THE PARK!" Tubbo didn't even give Ranboo a chance to accept (Though, he would've said yes, anyways), running to go change into a shorter-sleeved shirt.
Ranboo, only wearing a jacket with a short sleeved shirt underneath, stayed still. He'd tie it around his waist if it was that hot outside, which it wasnt. It was warm, but that simply hid a thick layer of cold.
Dreams can be funny, Ranboo thought to himself as the group walked out the door, Tommy and Tubbo chattering to each other about something. Maybe vlog ideas? Ranboo wasn't paying attention. He was trying to remember the nightmare.
Ranboo had always taken particular interest in dreams, studying what certain aspects of them meant. Usually dreams somehow related to memories in any way, but this one only held visuals of Tubbo's house. But why the monster? Did it represent something? Anxiety, that he wasnt going to make good use of his time with Tubbo? That he was boring and horrible? Maybe.
"Ranboo, earth to Ranbitch, hellooooo." Tommy snickered, waving a hand infront of Ranboo's face. The older flinched, expression becoming more level. How long had they been in the park?
"You went really moony-eyed, you okay, big guy?" Tubbo asked, a hint of genuine concern in his voice. Ranboo hummed, but he didnt seem sure.
"Clearly he's thinking about women." Tommy teased, snickering. Ranboo flinched again, shaking his head when they both burst out in laughter.
"What? No! No, no, I'm not thinking about anyone!" Ranboo couldn't help but smile at the stupid joke. Of course it was Tommy who immediately went to the thought of Ranboo having a crush. He didn't mean it, though.
"Mmmhmm. Okay, well, I have an idea for what we can do. Follow me." Tubbo pointed his phone in a specific direction, a map evident on the screen. A map for what?
"I swear, Tubbo, if you're going to make us illegally dig up something, I will punt you." Ranboo threatened, and Tommy snickered.
"You can't punt me!" Tubbo laughed in response, "I'm much too big for that, big man. You may be tall, but I still weigh some!"
When the boy turned around, walking backwards, Ranboo made a motion as if he was going to actually try and kick the boy, who flinched away immediately with a yelp. Tommy and Ranboo burst into laughter again, and Tubbo pouted.
"Sure, whatever you say, kid." Ranboo smirked, observing the scenery around him. This area was actually really clean, despite what he had heard about city areas having alot of problems.
He lost himself in random thoughts again, only snapping back into reality when something crept behind a tree. Doing a double take, he confirmed that yes, something was following them. Something, yes, not someone. He could tell by the jutting edges and the snake-like tail, aswell as the bright white eyes, similar to the previous monsters, piercing the group.
It let the light onto itself for a moment, and he could take in its form a little better. It was armored, the 'shell' spiking up. It was almost like a spider, multiple sets of eyes and legs and many prickly hairs all over it. The eyes were small, similar to the previous monster. Its tiny pupils locked with Ranboo's normal-sized ones, both paralyzed and staring at each other.
"Ranboo?" Tubbo asked, waving a hand infront of the man's face until he blinked, snapping out of the chance. "You've been acting strange since you got here, are you okay?"
"I, uh, I'm fine, yeah. Don't worry about me," Ranboo flashed a smile to the boy, reassuring him that he was okay. The monster snapped out of the trance aswell, moving its gaze to Tubbo, probably wondering if he could see it, too. When Tubbo didn't even glance at the monster, it turned its glare to Ranboo again. The boy pretended not to notice, wincing and shrugging, continuing to walk with the others down the path.
"Ooooh, look at these!" Tubbo kneeled beside a bush, admiring some kind of star-shaped petals on a bright green bush. It almost reminded him of in old Disney cartoons, where you could tell when things were going to move, because they weren't shaded, or had thinner lines. It was like that; it stood out, like a predator waiting to strike, claws out.
Ranboo was hesitant, listening half-heartedly as Tubbo rambled on about a plant he'd never heard of. A Starstruck Symphony? What an odd name for a plant. It had to mean something, though, because plants aren't named without reason. Starstruck, he could see, because the leaves were shaped like stars. Symphony? Maybe some kind of meaning that isnt yet covered.
Tubbo poked at the bush, gently taking a leaf in his hand and pointing out the spiraling veins to Tommy. Tommy watched in awe, taking in all of the information Tubbo was leaving. Ranboo felt uneasy, but listened.
"The thing about this plant, is it only grows and blooms in the dark! So, typically at night. Instead of soaking up sunlight to photosynthesize, it soaks up moonlight and starlight- Yeah, moonlight is reflected sunlight, but for some reason it refuses normal sunlight. It also glows in the dark, these star flowers it has. See these buds? Those are the flowers, only blooming in the night."
Ranboo couldn't help the interest spiking in him, not realizing the monster from before had disappeared. He listened to Tubbo list numerous facts about the plant; How long they typically lived (800 years!), what weather they were weakened by (Summer, due to the less moonlight), what kind of plant they were compatible with (Strawberry, blueberry, and pear plants, surprisingly), and many other facts.
He wasn't paying attention to anything around him.
One moment, Tubbo was infront of him, smiling, explaining the plant to him and Tommy.
The next, a long, slender arm had reached through the bush, digging long claws into Tubbo's back, almost severing his arm, dragging the shrieking boy into the bush. Blood sprayed the ground, both Tommy and Ranboo yelling out in fear.
"HELP! NO, PLEA- GSSSSSSHNNNNG-!" Blood bubbled out of Tubbo's mouth, the creature's thumb piercing his throat. Tommy stood, frozen in shock, as Tubbo got dragged into the bush.
Ranboo on the other hand was frantically screeching Tubbo's name, on his knees and trying to do anything he could to get Tubbo back.
"TOBY NO! HOLD ON- TOBY!" Ranboo cried, but Tubbo was gone. Ranboo stood up, backing away abruptly, falling on his back again, scrambling backwards. Tommy was paralyzed, blue eyes wide with fear.
An eerie silence settled over the clearing, just as the sun began to set.
Stars dotted the sky, gleaming white with anger and rage.
Ranboo didn't want to fall asleep tonight.
