(S.1) Chapt.20 | Middle Part - Spy Chase

"So just tell us if there is anything unusual happening" Ryder's eyes flicked somewhere else. He wasn't entirely sure if allowing Chase to use his spy gears when his gears are still in its early stage where glitches and malfunctions have a high chance of occurring in abnormal intervals is safe. Such small flaws and accidents could lead one to another that could cause a larger problem in the picture. So the boy was basically having second thoughts about what he said. "I'll do it" Chase suddenly spoke up, shortly interrupting Ryder's train of thought. The boy's brown orbs blinked for the shock he took "N-no. I think it's better if you stand by actually" he breathed out, still jittery from the possible consequences that flashes before his eyes. The said flashes of possible scenarios were quite traumatizing as he found himself mourning for Chase, maybe even for Skye if his said plan had one little flaw in it, and had not noticed the tiniest detail in the crime scene. Who knows what'll happen to all of them.

Chase placed a paw on his shoe and had looked at him. There was no fear in it. Nothing was found above the surface of his emotion but bravery and determination. He may not look much of it right now, but somehow, Ryder sensed something deep within that German Shepherd. The pup did not say anything. It just simply looked into the eyes of the boy with no such thing as threat or intimidation in its eyes. Perhaps he was telling the thick-long story he had gone through ever since Skye's disappearance by allowing him look into his eyes as everything seeps out. Who knew one look could tell the whole story?

Shaking his head to snap himself out of the gaze he was enthralled a moment ago, he declared it was far too risky for Chase to go on. Disbelief upon hearing this, Chase protested for Skye's safety "Ryder. You must send me. We have no choice left. You can't just leave Rocky and Zuma searching alone in Barkingburg, and same goes for Rubble who's back in Adventure Bay. Multiple missions laid out is the most efficient way to increase the chance of finding Skye immediately." The boy sat back down to contemplate on the statement the pup had told him. He's been considering that, but the worst to come as well. They may have gone through the same situation with Chase being kept hold as hostage, but they've found him easily as he was kept in Barkingburg's palace. Unfortunately for them, Sweetie got smarter in the nick of time, and she had thought of it thoroughly that if she wants to succeed in her plan. She would have to keep Skye somewhere else that they wouldn't have expected. And there are many possibilities.

Sweetie could have easily placed Skye in such an easy location and left them on a wild goose chase. She could be simply anywhere, and that's what makes everything scarier. Ryder sighed in defeat and stood up "Okay. You'll go. But do you really know how to fly Skye's copter?" He questions. He had suggested so, as flying would be easier to locate her, and using the Air Patroller alone for search isn't part of the plan, but to stay in Barkingburg and be the eye in the territorial atmosphere of the kingdom, and it would be best if it stays there in case said vehicles or tools will be launched right here and there in Barkingburg and in case of any injuries from the pups, Marshall can take action immediately, and wasting time is not an option at the very moment, efficiency is.  Cold sweat began to drip on his face, realizing he doesn't, not much at least "Kind of. . ." He half told the truth, but if he were to chicken out, he's sure Ryder won't let him, and they're both wasting time, he knows that. The boy raises his brows at his response, and again, his heart thumps loudly after finally finding out his poor pup has no experience in flying. If that was the case, it could lead to a lot of mishaps, like the copter acting jerky. "Don't fear! I've learnt a thing or two with Skye back then."

"Skye!" Chase called out to her. His eyes searched for the Cockapoo, he was here for the breakfast she promised that she will take with him. Sadly, she was nowhere to be seen. The Alsatian thought to where she could have been, she couldn't have gone that far, right? Of course not. Last time he checked, when she wants to go somewhere, she'll be asking mostly for his help in navigating such places, considering she's still slightly unfamiliar with Adventure Bay itself.

Once his eyes landed on to his friends who are still training for their future missions, everyone seems to be in their assigned place or side of the yard. Marshall usually nearby the tree where there usually is a ladder that leans on the tree and a hose nearby a cardboard fire; Rocky by Marshall's right rear (in Chase's point of view) where he's in the sunshine with his toolbox and with different types of materials from paper to plastic, to metals and so much more; Zuma was nearby Rocky's area, and had an inflatable pool by him and had diving gears messily laid on the floor; and the next one was Skye's, which was located at the back of the lookout tower. She wasn't there, nor her copter, and her figure wasn't in his side of the training area neither. So where is she?

"Chase! Up here!" She called out, and found her flying slightly higher above them with her copter. He looked at her in awe as she smoothly descends Earth-ground to dock her copter safely. Once she had landed the aerial vehicle on the side of her training area, she hopped off it and went to Chase "That was awesome Skye! You just started training. . . What? Just a week and you're getting the hang of it!" The Cockapoo giggled at his awe full response "Thanks Chase, but it's just the beginning, really. Next thing I'm training for are dealing with weather conditions and driving the copter with some cool tricks. Y'know, when it's needed" they then started to burst into laughters, and they had no idea why they did. There was nothing funny at their sight at the moment nor something in the sentence. But somehow, laughing right now felt so right. Wonders.

Once their laughters died down along with the soft-paced wind, Chase breathed out "Man, wish I can fly like you" Skye's ears perked up a little at his response and looked at him. His eyes were looking skywards and had been admiring the clouds that passes by them slowly; the sun's still out and gave them a warm light throughout their activity. But Skye sees differently as the morning star's rays hit his rich brown fur. Maybe it was the rays that make him somehow. . . Somebody aside from him, but within that, there's still familiarity within. Crazy right? She questions herself if she has gone crazy that Chase somehow became a greater piece once he was put on a natural spotlight.

She shook the thought off, knowing that maybe Chase just had a natural beauty, that it's so natural, even the nature itself could blend with him unbeknownst and become in hindsight, better. "Maybe I could teach you a few" Chase looked at her flabbergasted, still recovering from the impact from her sudden suggestion "M-me? Where'd you get that crazy thought from?" He laughed nervously. He wasn't quite ready for that sudden offer. Sure he likes flying above everyone else and take in the beautiful sights that pass by him, but the thought of making a mistake in maneuvering the air vehicle creeps a negative feeling through his brain. He wasn't going to risk his life just to see such beautiful sights if the only way was to ride a copter. He likes it better when someone takes the steer for him and maneuver the copter. Not the other way around, or just simply him alone.

The Cockapoo had noticed the change of aura within him. His eyes had a hollow stare, and fear seeps right out of him immediately. "If it makes you happy, I can drive the copter for you" she blurts out, placing a paw on him. Slightly flinching to her touch, he met her cherry blossom eyes looking at him, patiently awaiting for his response. There was a sense of peace in her eyes, and there wasn't a threatening impel within her eyes. Like she understood him very well with mouths closed. All ever there was to tell was all in the eyes. "Okay then. I'd like that idea." he gave in, smiling warmly at her, as the Cockapoo's tail wagged in delight.

"Okay then. . . If you insist. Just please. Be careful. I don't want another pup gone. I can't bare that anytime soon" he halfheartedly joked. A pained smiled just simply spread across Chase's face, he knew going on a mission will hurt his beloved owner, but he knew for one instance that if they don't do anything. Nothing will be done. Honestly, not much dogs have the courage to fly up high in the air, and Skye's one of them. In his modest opinion. Skye is irreplaceable. She's one of a kind. Every time he watches her fly her copter, there's a look in her eyes that tells her. . . She belongs behind those control panels. She's meant to be flying, like what she's doing. It became her passion and she grew to love her profession. He's never seen anyone like that ever before. Or maybe its because he's fallen for her that makes her glow in his perspective. Whatever makes him so drawn to her. He'll find her for the PAW Patrol, and for the sake of her safety and joy.

Ryder called Rocky, and his camera appeared on the screen with his expression highly focused on his surroundings with his radar scanner out of his pup-pack, scanning the surrounding. "Rocky, where'd you keep Chase's Spy gear?" he questions, Rocky refused to look at the camera, not for stubbornness, but for the sake he's driving and scanning at the same time "Uh. . . I think I've left it at the look-out. In your garage. . . I think. . . Why?" his facial expression changed into an interested one, curious as to why Ryder had suddenly brought that up. "Chase will use it to search for Skye. It's an updated one than his Mission PAW and standard pup-pack." the boy explains, Rocky nods at this, but had his eyes widened once realization hits him "What?! But it's not yet ready! Well. . . Kind of. Because it hasn't still been tested. And I'm not sure what it may cause" the mongrel has its brows creased as he finally looked at the camera.

"It's fine. I can handle it" Chase interrupted. He's getting panicky that everything felt like an hour had passed by them and no progress has been made. Everyone's still in stage one, which is searching for Skye, and the worst part is, not one have found any traces of her. The grey mongrel shook his head furiously "No no no! That's a baaad idea!" he protested "Chase, we love you for that confidence, but right now, using that pup-pack is dangerous. Ryder. Doesn't he have anything on his Mission PAW pack?" Chase nodded sideways as he answers for Ryder. "I only have that pad launcher on my motor bike. You haven't updated it lately"

Rocky gritted his teeth as he was in deep focus and right now, Chase is threatening to use the unsafe pup-pack he will soon have right now. "Chase, please don't do this" the mongrel pleaded, the German Shepherd looked at the boy and shrugged, knowing Ryder had the same thoughts "Trust me Rocky, I have to help"

The grey mongrel had finally found his one and only position. The position that made him feel comfort, that it feels like home, he wants to marry it. Right before he was about to sleep and drift off to dreamland like the other pups and humans. He heard someone say "You're gonna catch a cold" flabbergasted and curious to whom said that, Rocky opened his door quietly to see for himself who spoke. He found Chase talking to Skye, and he is completely clueless to what they are arguing about, because, that's what it seems like. But not the aggressive type though.

"Chase please--" then he saw Chase coming towards his pup-house, at the sight of this, Rocky left a smaller gap to nobody would see that he's been eavesdropping on their conversation. When Skye was about to sleep, Chase had placed a blanket over her, upon seeing this, his eyes widened and his tail wagged happily at this. He was very pleased that Chase was being an absolute gentleman, err, gentlepup. After hearing a thank you from the Cockapoo, Chase left her alone their with the skies. Rocky was about to do the same thong like Skye, sleep. When he found Chase coming back to her and had slept beside her. "Dorks" Rocky said to himself, shaking his head in disbelief "How are they not a thing right now?"

"Okay fine. It's in Ryder's garage. I left it there. Please promise me you'll tale care of yourself? Becauseiswearskyeandchasemusthappen" Rocky spoke the last bit in a mutter and speedy manner, as if he was told off and now he is upset. "What was that?" Chase asked, looking back to the mongrel who is still on call and still visible to the screen. Surprisingly, Marshall and Ryder had picked up what Rocky's speedy mutter contains, and they started to snicker. "Nothing! Just go!" Rocky yelled, as the German Shepherd nodded and went to the changing area and had his glider-pack and suit on to dash across Barkingburg to Adventure Bay to pick up his new pup-pack that holds as his second profession. Just for Skye. "Ryder, I found something. I'll be back with you, I'll investigate this quickly" Rocky declared, as that ended their call.

"Rubble?" Chase called him through his pup-tag as he was saw Adventure Bay looming in the distance, the silhouette of the City slowly largen as he kept drawing closer to it. Below, he saw Cap'n Turbot on his boat, readying himself for another sail out further from the bay to most likely meet Wally and have another grand time. Upon his call, his pup-tag lit up and heard Rubble's voice "Chase? What's up?" He questions "Have you spot anything Skye-related? Or at least Sweetie's traces?" His pup-tag's beam disappeared once more as he approaches to the look-out to land himself safely and find that new pack. "Negative" his tag coruscate once more to indicate Rubble still speaking, then its glow disappeared once more when Rubble's line went flat dead. Sighing at this "Are you sure?" He spoke once more, as he attempts to open Ryder's garage door. The only thing he heard were his own grunts in attempt to make a budge of the shut garage door; the line to Rubble was dead silent. He waited and waited and hadn't much worried about this but the new pup-pack "Adventure Bay seems to be free from Sweetie, because there really is no trace of that Sweetie anywhere"

Groaning at the stubborn garage door, and at the fact that Sweetie is still undetected along with Skye, frustrates and worries him at the same time. Running to the proper entrance to the look-out tower, Chase wanted to assure that Sweetie wasn't fooling poor Rubble "Have you checked the CCTVs?" as he bursts into the proper entrance and had took the elevator to access Ryder's fireman's pole "I have, and me and the Mayor found no evidences of Sweetie, nor her vehicle, nor Skye" by the time the English Bulldog stopped speaking, Chase had reached the top of the look-out tower "Are you really sure?" he asks again, feeling queasy at the thought of not doubling checking. Right now, he could already admit that paranoia has crept into his mind unknowingly without his acknowledgement until now. He earned a groan from Rubble on the other end of the line "If you don't trust me, why don't you check Paw Patrol's CCTV there on the Air Patroller, Romeo" hearing those lines from Rubble, the German Shepherd could feel the English Bulldog's eyes rolling at him already. But the urge to look one more time kept buzzing into his mind, so before he slid down to the pole, he checked the footages on the screen where Ryder answers calls and launch plans that'll be discussed to them further on. The screen slowly descends down and Chase intently looks at it. Once it halted to a stop, he began to press buttons to survey the previous footages of what was recorded earlier.

Pressing the rewind button, it took him back to the time he, Skye and Ryder climbing aboard to their Air Patroller, off to Barkingburg of course. He fast forwards to thirty minutes and nothing has happened yet; he zoomed out of the current camera and viewed every camera in a grid to check all cameras simultaneously. Fast forward to another ten, there was no chaos happening neither; adding another five minutes to the time slot, Sweetie nor Skye were seen across Adventure Bay skies nor land. The citizens seems to be at peace. Getting frustrated at yet another failed attempt to find Skye or Sweetie at the current minute-slot, he added another ten and just found Rubble's arrival in Adventure Bay from Barkingburg. Sighing in defeat that Rubble was right, he decided to finally fetch his new pup-pack.

Sliding down to the fireman's pole that Ryder usually uses during missions, he landed at a dimly-light place. He searched around for the switch, and felt blind for awhile, not until he found the light switch, he made a beeline for Ryder's cabinet. Pulling the handle made out of rich metal, he searched for his color, which would be a blue hue, the usual color. The first cabinet were full of fabrics rolled neatly; the second above that were full of tools for fixing anything mechanic-related; the third one seems to be lighter than the others, but he pulled it open anyway. To his delight, it was the pup-pack that he's been finding. Grabbing it, he slipped on the suit (which took quite awhile) and the pup pack on his back. Once it was securely wrapped around his waist, he called Rocky through his pup-tag to get information about this new pup-pack, to what it does and how to activate the tools.

"Ch-chase?" The Mongrel spoke, slightly confused and surprised "You got the pack?" He question, Chase agreed to his statement and affirmed he indeed have the pup-pack "Great, now just come back here and I'll tell you all about it here, we actually need your new thing" and with that, the glow on his pup-tag disappeared and left an afterglow in the room. Sighing, he grabbed his glider pack with his mouth, and with patience and skill, he turned off the light switch with paw, realizing that his suit glows in the dark with the green lines that dances around his suit, he smiled to himself and searched for a way out.

Finally out of Ryder's garage, he took a quick switch for his glider pack. Barking to command it to work, his glider pack suddenly blasted an unexpected force that sent him flying out of the look-out immediately. "The pup-pack!" Exclaiming at the realization hitting him, he made a dash back to the look-out to fetch his new pup-pack, because if he didn't, what was the use anyway of him returning here? His eyes were locked onto the pup-pack he left earlier, and he was determined to snatch it with his strong jaws, activating Eagle-eyes on, he increased his speed and as he dashes down, he successfully have his pup-pack in his mouth; cheering silently in his mind, he flew back to Barkingburg where he is being needed, hoping they found something.

The surroundings were slowly transitioning from one scene to another, pushing each other as if wanting attention, but Chase doesn't have time to admire the beauty, not right now at least. He wants to admire what the world may offer to him once Skye is saved, and they'll be paw-in-paw watching the clouds and days go by, hoping by at that time, she belongs to him for him to make her the most happiest pup the world has ever seen. As he continues his journey back, larger buildings came to view, and that same crime scene had welcomed him. The palace. It was the last place she was seen after all. But as he slowly approaches the castle, he thought. . . How did he not see them escape? How did he not hear Skye? She would've screamed for help, wouldn't she?

Many questions raced through his head, and he was eager to answer all these. "Chase" his pup-tag lit up, distracting his train of thought "Are you here in Barkingburg?" It was Ryder, questioning if he was anywhere nearby the said place "Yef Fyderf Sir" he replies, struggling to talk with the pup-pack that is being held by his mouth. "I fwill jusf dwop off my owthew fack" as Chase takes a steer towards the Air Patroller that hovers above the kingdom. Upon this, Robo-Dog saw him and had dropped the hatch to allow him to have a safer landing "Thanks Robo-Dog" he thanked, finally dropping the new pup-pack to the floor as he starts de-attaching the pup-pack's straps that wraps around his waist securely, and once it was free, he returned the glider pack to its proper place and had buckled in his new one. "Okay, let's try this baby out" his eyes scanned around to think of how to get down, when another call reached him "Chase?" The pup-tag coruscate once more "I'm going down now. . . Where are you guys?"

"By the east tower, come quick" Chase nodded to no one "Wait! Wait! Which command will be helpful to put me Earth-ground?" The German Shepherd asks, then Rocky's voice came into field "You can bark for your zipline. Two suction cups will fly out of your pack, and that could lead you down. Just aim your target and you'll slide to it" with a short thank-you, his pup-tag went off again. Sighing, he took a deep-breath "Okay. . . Bark, aim, slide. . ." He recounted the things mentally he would do, "Okay. . ." His auburn eyes opened in the midst of the bright late afternoon, the surrounding was still scorching hot and would just start to loose its heat later five. Gathering all his thoughts in one pile, he was ready.

"Rarf! Zipline!" Upon command, his zipline launcher appeared on his back and aimed it to the East Tower, as his two suction cups were in place, he zipped down to where he was being called. "Woohoo!!" He yelled in excitement, allowing the thrill of adrenaline rush through him, this was a new kind of experience to him and he loved that kind of it. As his excitement yells died down along with the wind, he trained his eyes onto the tower, he was nearing he declared himself. But then, he suddenly felt something weird tugging him down, he looked back and found the suction cup on the other end lost its grip as the airbus constantly moves away from Chase. Instead of sliding to the tower, he's falling before reaching the tower.
