(S.1) Chapt.18 - Skye's Suspicion
It was yet again. Another day in Adventure Bay. But then, there's this thought that's ringing in her head. She's supposed to be remembering something. But what?
She knew that last night, she promised herself to re-live something. "Must've been tired enough to forget it. . . " She sighed, hoping it'll come to her soon enough. Because she has this feeling that it's important. Hopefully not a life threatening situation.
Her pup friends started to bark gleefully upon her wake. Although she could see they were laughing. Zuma and Rocky on the other end of the rope; Marshall and Rubble on the other end. Seeming they were in a tug-of-war. While Chase. . .
He wasn't there? It was obviously surprising to see his presence not there. "Chase likes playing tug-of-war. . . " She trailed off, then went out of her pup house to fetch herself some food, which she found that her bowl was already filled with kibble.
Obviously Ryder did that.
So she dug into the food, to satisfy the war within her growling stomach. All she could hear were the four growling playfully, and her eating her kibble in a such pleasing way.
What she hadn't realized. Was someone was behind her. As the Cockapoo ate her breakfast peacefully, someone patted her head lightly.
This made her eyes widen and swiftly shot up to see who this was. Chase. She assumed he was playing tricks on her. "Gotcha! " He declared happily.
Skye laughed at his adorableness to how he got her good. Well, sorta. "Good morning sleepy head!" Chase beamed at her. She noticed the way he wagged his tail happily. This couldn't be helped by Skye to do as what he does as well.
"Morning Chase" The magenta-eyed Cockapoo greeted back, with a warm smile that is compared to the rising sun. "What brings your here?" She asks, but silence answered her.
But only to see the German Shepherd push his bowl beside hers. Her head tilted into confusion. Wondering what he meant. She looked over to his food bowl to see it full!
"I. . . Want to eat breakfast with you!" He churped like a little happy chick in mid summer. The Cockapoo's heart immediately melted into a puddle upon hearing him speak.
Or perhaps her heart did a backflip of excitement and happiness. Or whatever it is. It feels like her heart's been dancing a waltz, that can't keep herself in a tranquil state.
Skye's face froze into something Chase couldn't read. "Uh. . . I mean. It's okay if you don't want. I honestly wouldn't mind" Chase said, starting to push his bowl away.
Skye do something!
This is an opportunity to spend time with him!
Chap chap! Reboot to reality!!
"CHASE, WAIT--" She yelled all of a sudden. Making Chase flinch at her loud, clear voice. Chase looked back at her to see a eyes-closed Cockapoo.
"Y-you can stay. I was. . . Just deep in thought" She admitted. "Are you sure? I can give you more time. . ?"
"Positive."
This had assured Chase that he could stay with her for breakfast "Thank you! Thank you Skye!" Chase jumped and had hugged her. It took for a very moment for Chase to realize what he had done.
He leapt away from her. Both pups' cheeks burned aflame. They were thanking they weren't humans, that their fur had covered the blush they wore at this very moment.
"S-so. Shall we eat? " Chase offered, for being a gentlepup he is. Skye swallowed the huge lump on her throat, before she grinned shyly and nodded.
And with that said. They ate their breakfast in peace, while the other pups played happily. As Slye ate her kibble. She brought herself to re-live last night.
"Okay pups, let's go home now" Ryder declared. As the pack raced to the PAW Patroller, which later transported them back the to Air Patroller.
As Ryder navigated through the thick night clouds, the pups were still buzzing with excitement. They were sharing their experiences about the mission. "Oh! And the way I crashed into the wall! And I went VROOOOM~ PFSH!" Rubble said, as he mixed some actions with it. Which he also added sound effects, which made his story more interesting.
Every pup laughed as Rubble the story-teller was sharing his. But as Chase had opened his very alive, amber eyes. It fell onto Skye, who swayed due to the velocity of the Air Patroller.
She seems she's trying to fight her weariness and mingle along the other energetic pups. But her mind demanded that it needs rest. Sadly, her eyes refuses to.
This resulted her head to the side, and re-fixing it to some position that's not awkward. Chase sighed at the sight he's seeing "She's going to hurt her neck"
The tall German Shepherd walked over to Rubble and asked him kindly to switch places with him. Which Rubble gladly accepted it, after Rubble got off, it was Chase who sat on Rubble's spot.
His eyes were locked on to the sleepy Cockapoo. He gently pulled her head using the underneath part of his mouth. After this was done, Skye seemed to give in and had refuses to re-fixing herself. The fluffy fur of Chase was lullaby that sets Skye immediately to slumber. A small smile appeared on her delicate face, before she snuggled in deeper on his warm brown coat.
Every pup that sat there looked at him. Knowing that there is something up. Chase asked "What?" Raising his eyebrow. Zuma, who was near him, replies "Why don't you admit it to her already?" The Chocolate Lab asks, only for his smirk to grow bigger and wider.
"I-i. . ." This was the first time they see Chase so vulnerable. Where he couldn't refrain himself from. Stuttering. "I'm trying to. But fate must've been playing tricks on me. 'Cause whenever I attempt to, we will be disturbed" He admitted.
Zuma patted his back lightly "Don't worry Chase. Everything happens for a reason" . The German Shepherd smiled back at him.
He was so grateful to have amazing friends like Zuma. After the tragic past he had gone through. He feels like this is the fall in action of his story, where everything is about to close and he'll get his happy ending.
But what he doesn't know. It was still rising.
Skye huffed out to realize she had fallen asleep on the majority of their trip back to Adventure Bay. "Well that wasn't helpful" She sighed, clearly disappointed. "W-wait. . . " She whispered through nothing but air.
The Air Patroller had landed safely on land, and the gears slowly were put to a stop. The pups all hopped off the aerial vehicle. The only ones who were left were Rocky, Chase and Skye. "Rocky, can you push Skye to my back? " He whispered.
With no hesitation, Rocky nodded and went tot he opposite side of the couch. The grey mongrel slowly pushed the Cockapoo to the German Shepherd, which transported her back to her own pup house.
Chase didn't mind, since it just takes a little walk back to his own starting from Skye's. As she lays the sleeping beauty comfortably on her pup house, an involuntary grin found its way to him.
Only to be disrupted by a pat, which he slightly jumped at "You're telling her soon, right?" Marshall asks, looking over to the sleeping Skye.
"I'll try tomorrow. . . "
Skye finally remembered the half of the events that happened last night. Chase brought her to the pup-house, and she attempted to eavesdrop at Chase and Marshall's conversation.
Unfortunately for her, everything she heard was a slur. At that moment she was deep I thought, she muttered everything she recounted inside her thoughts.
Chase is undoubtedly a good listener. So even her low whispers were heard. "He. . . Brought me to my pup house" She muttered, staring into her meal emotionlessly. As if it were a portal that took her somewhere far away from Adventure Bay itself.
He nudged her waist, which successfully brought her back to reality. "Y-you. . . " Chase just nodded immediately. Not allowing her to answer, as he already heard what she was thinking about earlier anyway.
"You wanna know why?" He asked, drawing closer to her. Skye's heart began to drum loudly, that she, herself could hear it's rhythm. It was fast. Not that she was scared of him.
But full of curiosity. His face was stern, and so does his eyes, his lips were pursed into a thin line. Somehow she felt an electricity engulfing them all of a sudden. She's not entirely sure if she likes this feeling or not.
Upon Chase's question, Skye nodded helplessly. Her expression still. She wanted to explore his face. There stood a tall pup in front of her.
On his face, a tan fur lives within him, as a dark brown coat enwraps the other part of his body. The auburn eyes crackle lively within the window of his soul, that just completed the picture.
Enough to bring Skye skip a beat.
As her cherry-blossom eyes we're locked upon the auburn eyes, his face begins to soften. The thin line shifted into a smile that sent Skye smittently inside.
Chase let out a small laugh, that somehow, made Skye blush immediately. "It's because I--"
"Chase! Skye! Wanna play pup-frisbee?" Rubble yelled, as the sky blue frisbee landed beside Chase's hind leg. The German Shepherd had turned his body and face away from Skye to look at the very still frisbee, the had just landed.
An up setting electricity that came from Chase, was surprisingly felt by Skye. Which gave her the urge to check on him. As she was about to touch his shoulder (if he even has any).
"Come, let's play" He simply replies, as if Rubble hadn't just disrupted them as they converse in tranquil. Skye was slightly bummed that she wouldn't get to know the other half of it. It was the second time he attempted to talk to her. Possibly important.
But they were so unfortunate, that somehow, everything's would crumble upon their conversation. Like a dialogue script that was torn into pieces, where you could read it all over again, but nothing's attached to it.
As if the invisible authors above had burnt the next line to crisp, and set a new scenario for them to ride on. It was aw fully unfortunate. But she just couldn't decline anyone.
Her heart was too nice to do it. And besides, she likes at good game of pup-frisbee. "Are you sure?" Skye began, reassuring to go further "If it would take a while, I wouldn't mind, really"
Chase just simply nodded sideways "Positive, and I'm sure the duration of it would take a while" He says, smiling that is oh so warm.
Skye smiled back to him. But suddenly, she's mistaken Chase's smile for. . . Sweetie's. . ?
"Oh thank you quite PAW Patrol for rescuing my crown and my pooch, Sweetie" The Princess thanked them and Ryder. "It was no problem Princess!" Ryder replied humbly, as he turned his attention to his six pups.
"Okay pups, let's go home now" Ryder declared. As the pack raced to the PAW Patroller. As Skye looked back to the elegant castle, for one more time.
She found Sweetie smilingly smittently at someone. Her magenta orbs followed her gaze, which landed later onto Chase. She took note of this and told herself to think this more of this soon.
Then her tiny feet had brought her to THE PAW Patroller. She was ready to sleep. But once they've switched vehicles into the Air Patroller, the pups still chatted lively. And she wouldnt want to fall asleep on someone. Like Rubble.
"S-skye" Chase asked, as she found Skye's face. Her face drained out color, and she looked like she've seen a ghost that he couldn't.
Soon, Skye stumbled back to her pup house "SKYE!" He yelled, clearly concerned about her. He kept thinking of the possibilities she could be thinking about right now. He placed his guess that it would most likely be her hurtful past with Olivia.
Chase poked Skye's cheek, which took moments before she rebooted back, she looked like she was quite. . . Disappointed. But what?
"Skye. . .? What where you thinking?" Asked Chase, not bothering to tell her grab her crap up and play already. "N-nothing. It's just--"
"Chase!" Ryder called. Chase knew what Ryder meant by this. It's time for his duty. "So. . . Want me to talk to you while I guard on the other side?" He offered.
But Skye declined. Sadly Sweetie was there, and she wouldn't want her to hear him and her converse and make the Princess' pooch to be their topic.
His face broke into disappointment, but had respect for her privacy, so he nodded and went to Ryder. But before he was very far away from her "Just tell me if anything's up. I'm always here" He smiled once more. And with that, he left.
After he had disappeared, Skye burried her face to her pillow and let out a muffled groan.
"Why do I feel jealous. . ?"
