Chapter 3
Sybil looked more into Sully's situation, going over paperwork and trying to find any and anything worthy of helping with the case. She had looked up once Stephen and Olivia had walked into her office. Sybil only knew that Cyrus had wanted her help, but she didn't know why.
"You're going?" Stephen asked Olivia, who side-eyed Sybil.
" I'm going... More like Me and Sybil are going." Olivia answered making Sybil look at her.
"Wait what?! Go where?" Sybil asked standing up.
"To Camp David," Stephen stated.
"No." Sybil flat out said as she and Olivia eyed each other.
Olivia knew that Sybil did not want to be near the white house or him. Sybil had grown out of the mindset of being with him. Sybil knew she couldn't have him since he became the Governor after that the president.
"You have to," Olivia responded.
"Why do I?" Sybil asked.
"We won't be gone long." Olivia ignored her cousin.
"You're going to Camp David to meet with the President, why?" Stephen asked.
"Yes, cousin why?" Sybil asked folding her arms. Abby also walked in, trying to find Olivia as she listened to her and Stephen's conversation.
"Meeting at the White House is too official. The press is there." Olivia stated as Sybil scoffed.
" He wants you to take your old job back, doesn't he? He's wooing you." Abby said making both cousins look at her. Sybil lifted an eyebrow.
"Sybil don't make that face." Olivia pointed out before Sybil rolled her eyes and sat down in her desk chair.
" He's not wooing me. We're friends." Olivia told them.
"You and I are friends. He's the leader of the free world. Your life makes me feel unsuccessful." Stephen says.
"Just because he's the president doesn't mean anything. Power is often heavy no matter who the person is." Sybil scoffed as Olivia gave her a look. Her look trying to get her to shut up.
Abby and Stephen looked between the two before looking at each other. Abby wanted to question it but decided not to.
" Stay on Sully. Text me if anything happens. We'll be back soon." Olivia said. Sybil wants to beat her up like they used to do when they were teens. She stood up walking around her desk, sitting on the edge of it.
" Hey, um ... should I do it?" Stephen asked now changing the subject.
" Yes," Sybil said already knowing what he was asking but was happy not to talk about him anymore.
" I'm talking about asking Georgia to marry me," Stephen stated.
"Yes." Olivia and Sybil agreed.
"You should." Sybil smiled at Stephen who nodded at her.
" Because I was thinking I'd buy the ring today, but now with Sully ..." Stephen's voice cut out the end. His problem still lingered in the air.
"Stephen, do you want me to talk you into it or out of it?" Olivia questioned him.
" Into it. Out of it. No. Into it." Stephen couldn't choose. So many obstacles he felt that were stopping him from marrying her. He didn't know if it was the universe stopping him or something else.
"Normal lives that's the dream. You love her. She loves you. Normal people get married." Olivia comforted him.
" You and Sybil won't even date." Stephen flat-out says.
"I date." Sybil's hand made contact with her chest as she feigned a gasp.
"You have casual sex there's a difference." Stephen states and Abby looks at her friend with that 'He got you there' look.
"I do not." Sybil gasped.
"Name three boyfriends that you dated," Harrison said walking into the room.
"Well, there was Jason-never mind. There was also August- never mind." Sybil made a face as she saw Olivia's eyes get big.
"What?! Sybil." Olivia yelled.
"It was a very drunk night okay. He was boo okay." Sybil stated as Abby tried not to laugh at Sybil's baby pout.
"We'll talk about this later." Olivia seethed.
"Well, you made your point," Sybil told Stephen crossing her arms.
"I'm not normal." Olivia looked at Stephen as they heard footsteps walking into the room.
"Huck finally managed to hack Paige's e-mail. I've been reading them and I think I found something. Paige sent an email to a friend, Ariel Masse. On the night of the murder, they were supposed to attend an embassy party together." Quinn stated.
"So why didn't she go?" Harrison said to Quinn as Olivia and Sybil got ready to leave.
"I, I don't know." Quinn stammers as they leave before Harrison turns towards her.
"Don't ever say "I don't know." Olivia doesn't believe in "I don't know." She asks you why, you better have an answer. Abby!" Harrison points out before calling Abby's name.
Time Skip:
Sybil and Olivia waited in the president's office. Sybil looked around looking over anything and anywhere that reminded her of the places they had way too much fun in.
"He'll be right with you." An aide announces before Cyrus walks in himself.
"Cyrus." Sybil nods at him.
"Sybil." Cyrus did the same.
"Hi," Olivia says to Cyrus, who sits down.
" Hello," Cyrus said back to her.
" How are you?" Olivia asked him. Sybil stared at the man who looked like the world rested on his shoulders.
"Better. You're here. He'll be out in a moment." Cyrus responds.
"And why are we here?" Sybil asked as now Olivia remembered that she didn't tell her poor cousin why. Cyrus looked at Olivia as he saw the realization on Olivia's face.
" First lady came. She knows about this?" Olivia ignores her cousin.
"It's not like during the election, Liv. The isolation of the White House bonded them. Their marriage is stronger than ever." Cyrus told her as Sybil sat down on the other loveseat with her suit jacket moved to not crease it. Her Burgandy coffin-shaped manicured nails sat on her knee as she crossed her legs. The conversation was cut short by the first lady herself coming in.
"Liv. Sybil honey." Millie greets Olivia with a hug and Sybil with a bigger one. Millie missed the girls so much. Sybil liked being around Millie Grant so much that it hurt to hurt her.
"Mellie." They greeted.
"You never call. You never write." Mellie rubs Sybil's arms after pulling back from her.
"We've been busy. Mel but we missed you a lot." Sybil sweetly says making Mellie smile at her nickname.
"Well, you're a little busy. How are the kids?" Olivia contradicted her comment smiling at Mellie.
"Jerry's adjusting to White House life pretty well. But Karen misses her friends and hates the Secret Service. How are you? Are you two dating anybody? Because there are these guys at council's office, I think you'd hit it off with." Mellie states.
"We're good. Thank you." Olivia smiles at Millie before the man himself walks in.
Fitz almost had to do a double-take. His girl was here. She was here, her pretty brown almost black eyes peered at him with a soft look before it turned to anger back to normal, but the fire stayed. The suit she wore fitted her just right, and her body grew more than it had the years before.
"Livvie. Sybil." Fitz says with a friendly smile.
"President Grant." Sybil nods in his direction as Mellie rubs her arms again before dismissing herself.
"Mr. President." Olivia's professional facade came back.
They walk to the back of the white house with Fitz and Cyrus. Cyrus was too blind to see the looks Sybil gave Fitz and Fitz gave her, but Olivia didn't she caught all of it.
"It's good to see you two. I know you've got your hands full with the Sully St. James thing. I can't thank you enough for taking this on." Fitz says.
"Her name is Amanda Tanner. She's 27. I've got rumors she might be talking." Cyrus handed Olivia her file as she and Sybil looked through it.
"About what?" Sybil asked.
"You don't know?" Fitz questioned her.
"No. What happened?" Sybil questioned again.
"Amanda Tanner is the woman who says she slept with the president." Cyrus cuts in.
"Did he?" Sybil questioned as even though she was talking to Cyrus, she was indirectly talking to Fitz too.
"No. I didn't " Fitz cuts in.
"You sure? Because we also have things to do, and we can't just drop things every time the white castle is burning." Sybil calmly stated.
"I didn't."
"He didn't"
Fitz and Cyrus said at the same time.
Olivia stared at her cousin who she was sure was seething right now.
"And you can't fire her." Olivia cuts in changing the subject back to the task at hand.
"Not without a nightmare on our hands. Look, as yet, she hasn't gone to the press. It'd like to put a stop to it before she does." Cyrus says to get his mind off the pain in the neck. The one thing he knows about Sybil is that she isn't afraid to talk back to him or Fitz no matter how far they climb.
"It's not right. Makes me look like a dirty old man." Fitz joked as Sybil tried not to laugh almost snorting. Fitz smiled at his accomplishment to make his love laugh or kind of laugh.
"I have to ask. Mellie deserves more than this." Olivia said knowing both Fitz and Sybil would catch the double meaning.
'Sybil deserves more than this' She meant, and Fitz stared at her as he pulled the words from his tongue.
"No. I never, I would never. No. You've known me a long time, longer than most. You know I did not fall for some young girl. You know there's only one person I love." Fitz told her. His void of emotion is his standing. He loves Sybil and Sybil only.
"Mellie and Fitz are happy together, Liv. He'd have no reason to cheat." Cyrus cut back in. Sybil almost wanted to laugh in his face.
"I'll handle it. Consider it handled." Olivia states as Sybil and her nod to each other.
"You should come back to the White House. We need you on our side. Maybe this time Sybil can join the team."Fitz told them.
"Still no." Sybil cuts in as she walks past them, letting Olivia finish the talk. She was still angry at her, at Fitz, at herself for still loving him.
"I like working for myself. But I've never left your side." Olivia said as Cyrus was happy about the ending results.
" The band is back together." Cyrus cheered as he hugged them both.
