I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing right next to my ear. Groaning, I looked at what it said and noticed that it was a FaceTime request from Mia. I pressed my thumb on the Accept button and waited for it to connect.
"Jay! You need to tell me what to wear. I don't know where we're going and I need to dress appropriately." Mia started right as the phones connected.
"Just wear jeans and a t-shirt. Honestly Mia, you look good in anything and the place we're going to is nothing special," I laughed.
"Okay, I'll see you in a few. Bye."
"Bye, M."
I walked over to my closet and picked out a grey shirt and a pair of jeans. Throwing them onto my bed I shut the closet doors and put on some new boxers before pulling on the jeans and shirt. Afterwards I walked out of my room, heading towards the closed bathroom door.
I tried opening it only to find the door locked.
"I'm on the potty!" The voice of my six year old sister called out from behind the door.
"Okay," I laughed, going out into the living room to wait. A few seconds later the door opened and Olivia came bouncing out of the bathroom in her Minnie Mouse outfit.
I swear she was absolutely obsessed with Disney. It was probably our own faults for her being obsessed though considering we only lived about an hour away from the parks. We had always gone almost every weekend when she was younger.
"Hey, Liv. Did you wash your hands?" I asked.
"Yep!" She answered before skipping into her room. I made my way into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me.
. . .
Once I was finished getting ready I exited the bathroom and grabbed my phone from my room, sending Mia a quick text.
Hey M, I'll be over in 5 minutes. Don't bother eating anything; we're stopping to get Panera on the way.
Pressing send, I turned off my phone and shoved it into my pocket. I grabbed the keys to my car and yelled a goodbye to my parents before walking out the door.
I hopped into the drivers seat and put the key into the ignition, starting the car. I buckled my seatbelt and reversed down the driveway.
Making a left, I pulled onto Mia's street and went down a few houses before pulling into her driveway. I turned off my car and walked up the sidewalk leading to the front door. I knocked, waiting for someone to open it.
"Hi Jason," Mr. Smith smiled at me after he opened the door.
"Hey Mr. Smith, I'm here to get Mia."
"She's up in her room, you remember the way?" He asked, opening the door wider to allow me to step into the house.
"Yeah," I said and thanked him before heading upstairs. I reached her door and knocked, waiting for permission to enter.
"One minute!" I heard her voice say faintly from behind the door. "Okay, come in."
I entered her room before running and belly flopping onto her bed. I turned over, moving up to where the pillows were and stretched myself out.
"Jason! Your shoes are getting my bed dirty," Mia complained, trying to push me off.
"M, c'mon. You know you're not stronger than me." I laughed, watching her try to push me off.
"Just get off, Jay. I literally washed my sheets yesterday. You're getting your boy germs all over them."
"My what? My boy germs?" I asked, laughing. I got off her bed and grabbed her, throwing her over my shoulder. "Would you like to try again?"
"Jay!" She shouted, laughing. "Put me down!"
"No, I'm good," I joked. "I really like this view."
"Jason, I swear if you don't put me down right now!"
"You'll what? Hit me?" I asked, scoffing.
"Nope! I'll call for Bella."
At that I immediately stiffened. I did not want to deal with her older sister this early in the morning.
"Alright, alright. I surrender." I said, putting her down and holding up my hands. Mia smiled and grabbed her phone from her nightstand where it sat charging.
"Okay, I'm ready."
I took a moment to see what she was wearing. She had on a black crop top with a white compass on it and denim shorts along with her white Keds.
"Good, I'm starving."
I grabbed her hand and pulled her downstairs. After saying goodbye to her parents we exited the house and got into my car. I started the engine, pulling out of her driveway once we were both situated.
"To Panera!" She cried out happily, doing the Superman pose. I laughed at her silliness and pulled onto the road. Mia connected her phone to the Bluetooth in my car and played her Shawn Mendes playlist which consisted of the songs from his album Handwritten (at least, that's what she told me).
. . .
I pulled into a parking space right in front of the Panera Bread entrance. Mia and I exited the car and walked inside. Surprisingly it wasn't as busy as it usually was that early on a Saturday morning. We walked right up to the counter to order and I motioned to Mia that she could order first.
"I'd like a blueberry bagel, please," Mia said politely.
"Cream cheese?" The lady behind the counter asked.
"Yes please."
"And to drink?"
"A hot coffee," She answered before stepping aside so I could order.
"I'd like the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel," I said.
"And to drink?" The lady asked.
"A hot coffee."
She rung up the order. "Your total adds up to $10.00, even."
I took out a ten dollar bill and handed it to her. She then gave my the cups for our coffees and I handed them to Mia, letting her make those while I waited for the food.
After thanking the lady who gave me the tray of food, I walked over to where Mia was sitting and gave her the plate with her bagel. She spread the cream cheese onto it while I took a sip of my coffee.
We finished our food in a little over ten minutes. After throwing away the remains, I grabbed my coffee and headed out to the car with Mia following behind me.
"You better get comfortable, we have about an hour drive ahead of us." I told her before pulling out onto the highway.
