"Not all twins walk side by side, sometimes one has wings to fly."
Dear Maddie, I miss you so much. It's been five years and I still can't get you out of my head. How am I supposed to keep living like this? How can I do this without you? We used to do everything together. Hell, we used to bathe together! Remember when we pranked Mom and Dad by putting chili in their food! Ha, we got grounded for a week but it was totally worth it. Oh, the good old days.
I really need someone to talk to right now. Nora and I have been getting messages from an unknown number. We think it's a stalker. Truth be told, I'm terrified. I could really use your advice right now. You were always the wise one in the family. I really hope you come back to me. I beg you, Maddie. Please return to me. Please fulfil my wish. I will always love you, Mads.
Tears started flowing from my eyes as I wrote the second entry in my diary. Was writing even helping me? I was a complete emotional wreck at the time and the first day of school was about to start in about an hour.
I need to freshen up.
I did not want to look like a fool in front of everyone. I stripped out from my clothes and took a nice long shower, hoping my pain and worries would go away.
After about an hour of singing in the shower, I realised that I had thirty minutes left until school would start. I quickly pulled on a black flannel shirt paired with some denim skinny jeans. I added a light touch of makeup - not too much. I went to grab my backpack, putting my books and supplies inside and then put on my shoes. After doing all of that, I went downstairs to see my mom and dad sitting peacefully while eating breakfast.
I was still honestly shocked about how well they handled Maddie's death, their way of coping was going to work and putting in extra hours to make more money. I guess they just wanted to be distracted, everyone had their own way of dealing with death.
As soon as my mom heard the pitter-patter of my footsteps on the kitchen floor she yanked me into a tight hug, like she had not seen me in ages. I swear moms had super hearing senses.
"Hey sweetie, good morning! Are you excited for your first day of school? Aww, my baby girl is growing up." She cooed while pinching my cheeks like I was a two-year-old.
If Maddie was here she would make faces at me and laugh.
Oh, I really miss you.
"I can't believe I will finally be done with school." I said, trying to sound enthusiastic as I took a cup from the shelf and poured some orange juice into it.
"Alright, I'm gonna go prep the car, you get ready we're leaving in five minutes." My mom said as she put her shoes on and went to the garage.
After gulping down the last sip of my orange juice, I slipped on my shoes and hurried out to the car. Mom was already waiting with her seatbelt strapped in and the radio blaring. She was humming along with the music clearly enjoying her time without a care in the world.
I shook my head in disapproval even though a smile was creeping up on my face.
That was my mom, a kid at heart but an adult in reality.
After about ten minutes we reached school and I bid my mom farewell, kissing her on the cheek as I left the car. I walked into the intimidating school building with a courageous sigh.
Blixard high school, the school of the riches and bitches. Everyone in this school thought that they were superior to everyone else because of their money, fame and glorious parents. None of these material things mattered to me as long as someone had a kind and pure personality, I would be ready to accept their friendship.
As I skipped towards my locker I spotted my only three friends standing near it without a care in the world as they laughed and made conversation.
"Hey, guys." I said happily, my mood changing rapidly whenever I was in the presence of my friends.
"Ayy, Ken! How you doing? Enjoyed your holiday?" Alec said as he hugged me.
Alec was one of the hottest guys in the school, along with Jake. He had gorgeous sea green eyes and a muscular body, with a jawline which was perfectly sculpted. He was the man of every girl's dreams.
"If you count watching The Vampire Diaries as having fun then, yes! I did have fun!" I said while laughing.
"Ugh, you're so lame. Pfft, The Vampire Diaries." Alec said teasingly.
"Hey! There is nothing wrong with watching TVD!" Nora piped in as she playfully slapped Alec's hand.
"Ouchie, now I have a bruise. I hate you. I'm gonna go tell my mama." Alec said while pouting trying to look like a baby, which earned him a laugh from all of us.
"Try to act like a man Alec. We gotta impress the babes this year." Jake said while winking at a girl who was passing by. The girl immediately blushed and walked away.
Nora and I started giggling silently knowing all too well that Jake was just playing her for his ego.
The shrill bell sound started ringing, cutting off our giggles. Everyone in the crowded hallway hastily put their hands over their ears to shield themselves from the possible ear damage, muttering incomprehensible words which indicated how annoyed it made them. I had to admit, it was annoyingly painful.
"Okay, guys. See you at lunch, bye!" I said as I closed my locker and made my way to my next class, "Oh and Jake, don't cause any trouble on the first day of school. I think the teachers need a break." I added while stifling a laugh as he frowned.
'He really does like being the bad boy', I thought to myself.
As I entered class, I noticed that half of the class was full. I opted to sit on the free spot beside the window which gave me the perfect view of the school garden.
Once our teacher came in she started saying the usual stuff every teacher says on the first day of school before starting her lesson until she was cut off by a huge bang coming from the door.
"Yes, come in." Mrs. Melanie said angrily, clearly annoyed that someone interrupted her class.
As soon the door opened, the best looking boy I had ever laid my eyes on entered my vision. He had shimmering sea blue eyes with protruding muscles that threatened to rip out of his tight white t-shirt. He had an aura of danger and mystery around him which seemed to attract every girl in the room.
I mean who doesn't love bad boys?
As his mysterious eyes scanned the room looking for a seat, I silently prayed he would not sit in the empty seat beside me. I really did not want any more trouble or drama than I already had.
Besides I was preoccupied with hunting down my sister's killer and whoever was sending those anonymous messages. I knew I could count on my luck to once again completely abandon me as I saw the notorious bad boy lower himself into the seat next to me.
"Hey, I am Ace." He said from beside me.
I had to admit his voice was attractive. Scratch that, everything about him was attractive.
"I'm Kendall." I said trying to keep a straight face. Ace simply nodded and continued on with the lesson.
Pretty chill guy, I like that.
His attractiveness was utterly distracting me from the lesson. But I knew one thing; bad boy's brought trouble.
Trouble and drama were the two things I absolutely wanted to avoid during senior year.
