Thirty Nine // Kentucky.

"Jen, I don't understand why you need so many clothes." Josh groans as he tries to close the suit case.

"Because I'm going away for a week and a half. I don't know what I'm going to want to wear or what we'll be doing."

He grumbles something lowly to himself. "Well come here and sit on this." He says.

Happily, I bound onto the case and look at his face of concentration. "Hey there cutie." I smile and take his face in my hands. He looks away from me and continues to shut the case.

"Come on Jen, I'm packing your shit the least you can do is sit still."

"Fine babe." I move my hands and sulk.

He finally zips it shut. "Done." He says backing up. "Three suit cases worth of shit." He shakes his head. "Lets load the car."

"I can't carry these!" I cry.

"Your gonna have to once you get to Kentucky." He smirks picking up two. I grab the remaining one. I lug it down the stairs and groan every step of the way. "See, wasn't that hard." He smiles as he kisses my lips and loads them into the car.

"We have to pick Sarah up at noon." I say. "So we should leave in about an hour got it Hutch?"

"Hutch." He laughs to himself. I walk to the door. "Can we go upstairs then?"

"I could spare a few minuets." I smirk and kiss his neck. He shudders under me and scoops me up gracefully. He carries me upstairs onto the bed and lies me down gently.

His eyes roam my body slowly as he takes it all in. He leans down to press his lips lovingly to mine.

No, this isn't just sex. It's love.

Passionate and slow. Caring and caressing. Like a developing hug that covers your entire being.

This is how it should be.

"The showers on, come on we got like twenty minuets babe!" Josh calls to me from the bathroom.

"Coming." I grumble literally rolling onto the floor and standing with a grunt. The bathroom door opens and he looks at me. "Joshua I'm coming!"

"Okay okay, I'm getting in."

"Be there in a second." I hear him get into the shower, and I make my way in there. I strip of my clothes and my ring and then pull open the door. "No funny business." I warn. "Or I will end you."

"Gotcha." He smiles and kisses me.

People think showing together is sexy and hot, but in reality it's very uncomfortable. Not enough space to do what you want, and only one of you can always stay warm under the water.

We finish our shower and rush into the car. "Five minuets to spare. Want a coffee?"

I nod. "Yeah we can get Sarah one too."

"Yeah." He smiles and pulls into the Starbucks drive-thru. "What do you want?" He asks.

"I can order. I don't want anything."

He nods and pulls up. I lean over his lap a little. "Hi, I'll have a peppermint mocha latte and a double shot espresso over ice with half a shot of cream." I say.

We pull away. "Double shot?" He raises an eyebrow. "Damn what you planning on doing?"

"Nothing but the mornings events really tired me out."

"Then I'm doing something right." He smiles, everything is silent for a long moment as we wait for our drinks. A young girl hands them to us and we begin to drive away. "You know what I just realized?" He asks lacing our fingers together.

"What's that?"

"We don't have sex." He blurts.

"Are you complaining?" I ask.

"No. Don't you see? We've built this wonderful thing off personality and trust and honesty. Like we don't need sex to be happy. I find that kind of amazing."

I smile at him, I never would have thought of that myself. "I love you Josh."

"I love you too." He smiles proudly at me. "This weeks gonna be hell."

"Agreed." I nod.

We pull up to Sarah's house and he honks the horn. I rush to the front door and pound on it. "Who's ready for a fun ass vacation with Jennifer Lawrence!" I shout pounding on the door.

She opens it already laughing and holding her phone up. "I'm on the phone with my mom!" She exclaims giggling.

"Hi mom!" I smile.

"Holy shit Sarah! You weren't lying!"

"Of course not mom! I'm really friends with her!" She gushes.

"Where's your shit? I'll load it." I say looking around.

"So you are as they say you are." Her mom smiles.

"What's that?"

"Loud and not caring about appearance."

"Pretty much." I laugh. "Aha!" I find her stuff in the kitchen. "I'll load this."

She nods and walks into another room.

"Josh!" I call out the door and drag the cases to the door. "Help me."

"Only because I won't get to see you for like almost two weeks." I smile up at him and kiss him quickly before turning back to her living room.

I look at pictures on her fire place mantel. Family portraits.

Off to the right, a picture of a small young boy, a tall candle sets next to his picture. A tiny statue of Jesus with his palms pressed together as he looks upwards sets to the left.

"Jen." Her voice breaks me from my concentration making my jump.

"Oh, sorry. Yes, you ready."

"You saw Brantley." She smiles softly.

"Who is he?" I ask.

"He loved to paint. Granted he never could actually paint, but he would put his hands in it and scribble across the paper. Wanna see?" She asks in a small voice. I barely nod. She opens a small chest at her feet. "Look." She says handing them up to me.

Random scribbles of bright colors dance across the page.

"He loved our dog." She says putting the paintings away. "He was a lab. His name was Molo. But Brantley called him Mol."

"Brantley was your brother?" I ask softly.

"He was my son." Her voice is a whisper.

"You had a son?"

"I have a son. He's still my child even though he's gone."

"You have a son." I correct myself.

"Yes. He died in a car accident along with my father. He insisted on picking him up from day care that day, I guess he fell asleep or something and they went right off a bridge." She looks at her feet hugging herself.

A tear falls. I rush to wrap my arms around her. "You aren't alone. I'm here."

"It's just hard to say it out loud." She tells me. "Hard to admit they're actually gone."

"I know." I nod. I hold her for a few more seconds. "Okay, we're gonna have a good vacation. Look at me." She slowly does. "Smile." She barely does and I smile back. I wipe her tears. "Ok, lets go, don't wanna be late for our flight."

We walk outside. "God damn it!" I cry loudly looking at Josh.

"What?" He asks.

"I forgot my fucking laptop. I need that."

"Come on, we can make it back in time." He nods.

We speed home, grab the laptop, and rush to the airport.

Once we get there, he helps us unload our stuff and get us checked in. All we have to carry now is carry on. Sarah sits down and I wrap my arms around him.

"I'm gonna miss you." I mumble into his chest.

"Imma miss you too sweetheart. But you can call me whenever you want, or FaceTime me."

"Okay."

"I'd prefer if you'd FaceTime me for the house visit."

"Okay." I nod.

"Hey look at me." He requests. I do, and he shakes his head. "Don't cry baby. Your gonna have a great time with your friend and your family and the horses. It'll all be fun and you won't even think about me."

"I always think about you." I pout putting my head back on his chest.

"Don't pout baby. It'll all be okay. And your gonna have fun."

"If you say so."

"Flight 451 to Kentucky boarding first class now."

I look at him sadly. He kisses me for a long time not caring that we're in public. "I love you baby girl." He says softly kissing me again.

"I love you too."

I go to walk away, but rush back and kiss him again causing him to laugh.

"You've got to go baby." He smiles.

"Okay. I love you."

"Love you too."

I look at Sarah. "Come on, first class here we come." I force a smile.

"First class? Really!" She exclaims.

"Yes." I nod. "Now come on!"

The woman checks out tickets and motions for us to continue down the hall.

I take one last look at Josh, who smiles and blows me a kiss. Love you he mouths to me. I say it back.

The Sarah grabs my hand and pulls me down the hall.
