Chapter 26

"....So let me get this straight.... You got up in the middle of the night to get some water.... then you tripped over the hems of your robes and fell directly onto your throat and now you can't talk.... That's what happened?" Jiang Cheng and the others sceptically said.

TaiFeng nodded furiously, clutching a piece of paper with her explanation on it.

"... That's unusually clumsy of you." Wei Ying remarked, while Wangji stared dubiously at her.

"How come nobody heard you fall?"
Zixuan questioned.

TaiFeng simply threw her arms up in an unsure gesture like the famous *Guess I'll Die* meme.

She went and wrote on the paper.

'You guys are prepared for tomorrow?'

"Don't worry, we all know what to do." MianMian assured her.

TaiFeng then gave a sharp look to Wei Ying and crossed her arms.

"I know, I know, I swear on your mothers grave that I won't do anything reckless and/or stupid or you and Jiang Cheng will break my legs." Wei Ying scoffed.

"I'll keep him in check." Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes.

'Let's do this.'

Right on que, Wen Chao sat down in his tacky throne along with Wen Xu in the corner, going completely unnoticed by everyone, except TaiFeng.

This time he didn't take his eyes off her, and was watching her every move like a hawk.

Much to her annoyance. Although she just ignored him to the best of her abilities.

She simply focused on channelling  spiritual energy to her throat in an attempt to make her vocal chords heal faster.

It already had healed a bit since this morning, so she was saving her voice only for when she needed it.

"Look at you all. Pathetic dogs, scrounging about uselessly." Wen Chao sneered.

'Are you talking about yourself?'

"I trust you all memorized the Quintessence of the Wen Sect. Who wants to recite it first?"

Everyone was silent.

"Looks like I'll have to call someone out."

"Young Master Jin." He called out.

"I cannot." He replied.

"Hah, you couldn't even memorize them."

"Fine then, Second Young Master Lan."

"I cannot." He stoicly replied.

After nervously chuckling a bit ,Wei Ying stepped up.

"I'll do it, I'll do it."

Wen Ying enthusiastically walked forward and started stretching.

'Wei Ying, your reciting rules, not leading morning zumba class.' TaiFeng inwardly sighed.

"Wen Wuxian! Are you going to recite them or not?!" Wen Chao yelled.

"I'm about to, I'm about to." He said clearing his throat, pacing up and down.

"Thao shall not make loud noises. Thau shall not sneer. Thao shall not draw weapons indoors." He paused to look at Wen Chao.

"Thao shall not sit improperly."

By now everyone had figured out what he was up to, and was trying to contain their laughter.

"Wei Wuxian! How dare you recite Lan Sect rules in Qishan?!" Wen Chao spat.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realise. Wait, let me try again." He said cheekily.

"Forget it! Wei Wuxian, I hope you and everyone else enjoy cleaning up dung. "He smugly replied.

"...Dung?" Wei Wuxian said while everybody internally and externally sighed.

"Er-jie." Wei Wuxian pleaded while TaiFeng had her back turned to him.

"Yuzhao Long. FeiHong Long. Sect Leader Qian. Qian TaiFeng... Qian Hong!"

TaiFeng turned around with a mean look in her eyes and and a cloth over her nose.

"You had one job. Just the one." She hoarsly whispered, before once again turning her back.

"Aiya, I said I was sorry! Lan Zhan, you know I didn't mean to get us all dung duty right? I really didn't think this would happen."

Lan Zhan simply nodded.
"Mn, I know. Wei Ying meant no harm."

"Aiya, at least you forgive me." He said, sticking to him like lasangna.

"So why won't my dear Er-jie stop being mean?"

"Gee I don't know. Maybe because you swore on her mother's grave that you wouldn't do anything reckless and stupid?" Jiang Cheng scoffed, shovelling up more dung with Zixuan and Xichen.

"He's got you there, Wei-xiong." Huaisang said, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

"I wouldn't even be suprised if Madam Qian's grave got struck by lightning because of your reckless behaviour!"Jiang Cheng yelled

"No offence, Er-jie."

"None taken. I might have to recheck it after this. Ey, Wei Ying, help me with these."
She said, gesturing to some buckets.

"Ah, sure thing. Lan Zhan, can you get the other one please."

"Mn." He said, lifting up two of the heaviest ones.

"Wah, my hero! Lan Zhan, be sure to protect this frail man in the future." Wei Ying teased.

"Wei Ying's not weak." He replied, a slightest smile on his face.

"You really think so?" He said shyly, his face a light shade of pink.

"Oh look, we're madly in love and not sleep deprived. Get screwed, the both of you."TaiFeng sarcastically retorted, pushing past them.

"Young Master Wei, do spare a thought for all us singletons." Xichen chuckled, although he was crying inside.

"Are you all slacking off on your duties like the lazy dogs you are?" Wen Chao hissed, appearing from behind a corner with some disciples.

'Where did he even come from?'

"Acctually, I was just wondering why the dung smelled so familiar." Wei Wuxian cockily proclaimed, crossing his arms in defiance.

"Isn't that smell coming from you?"

"Wei Wuxian, you dare!?" Wen Chao said, seizing a whip and wrapping around Wei Ying's torso. The other disciples following suit.

"Wei Ying!" Wangji shouted, his calm demeanour momentarily cracking under the situation.

Soon everyone was running out from the stables to see what the commotion was about.

"What's going on?!" Zixuan yelled, running towards the scene with the others.

"Wei-xiong! Wangji-xiong!" Huaisang yelled.

"Wangji, Wuxian, are you okay!?" Xichen worriedly questioned, assessing the scene.

Ignoring them all, Wen Chao lifted his hand to strike Wei Ying with the whip.

Before Wen Chao could harm Wei Ying, TaiFeng stepped in front of the whip and caught it with her bare hand.

"Its you again! Why are you always sticking you nose where it doesn't belong." Wen Chao hissed.

Xichen let out a gasp at the fact his crush just caught a whip with her bare hand. It looked like it hurt.

"Yet again, your getting in my way!Qian TaiFeng,  I really can't stand you!"

"Fine then." She smirked, letting a little spiritual energy gush out, her eyes now a mesmerising golden-amber.

"Kneel."

Pulling the whip harshly, she made Wen Chao fall on his knees.

'Good grief, that was hot.' Xichen thought, momentarily distracted by his crush.

"QIAN TAIFENG!!! HOW DARE-"

"No! How dare you?!" She said, harshly cutting him off, coming closer and closer to Wen Chao's kneeling figure.

"Do you think your above me? Do you?" She asked voice low and taunting.

"Listen closely Wen Chao, there are very few people that have angered me and lived to tell the tale. I don't mind adding your name to my long list of victims." She said tilting his chin up with one of her fingers before flicking it to the side.

Grinning like a Cheshire cat, she narrowed her pupils into slits for a brief moment so only Wen Chao would see.

"So choose very, very carefully what you say next."

'I wonder if she'd be willing to- No! No! Don't go there!' Xichen thought.

Absolutely petrified, Wen Chao slowly got up from the ground, hurridly signalling for his disciples to put Wei Ying down.

Following orders, they placed him safely down and stepped back, not wanting to incur the wrath of one of the greatest cultivators of this era.

Slightly rubbing his arms, Wei Ying stood directly behind TaiFeng in support.

Xichen immediately went to her side, holding in the urge to draw his sword, along with the tent in his pants.

"I will take whatever punishment you had intended for him."TaiFeng calmly replied.

"Er-jie! What are you saying?!" Jiang Cheng screamed.

"What is she doing!?" Zixuan and Huaisang added.

"TaiFeng, what are you doing?" Xichen quietly asked, grasping her hand.

"Its fine, don't worry. Nothing I do is without reason." She whispered to them both.

Stepping forward she went past Wen Chao and the disciples.

"Lead the way, Second Young Master Wen." She said, devoid of any emotion.

"Hah, it seems like your all bark and all bite." Wen Chao laughed, as he was guiding a chained TaiFeng through the dungeon halls.

'I'm going to enjoy ripping him to shreds.'

Stopping at the room at the end where she knew the dog was staying she took a deep breath and prepared herself.

"Let's see if you can survive in here the whole night! Oh, Great Yuzhao Long!" Wen Chao mockingly spat before harshly pushing her in and closing the door, before walking away, laughing to himself.

Looking up, TaiFeng's stomach dropped when she saw the massive wolf towering over her.

Barely dodging a swipe she ducked and ran to her left.

The dire wolf pounced and landed a small cut on her left shoulder.

Hissing in pain, she quickly ran to the side, not being able to avoid a second small strike to her left calf.

Her clothes were ruined and her hair was a mess. By now, the ends of her robes were ripped to shreds.

Soon the wolf swiftly took a strike with its massive paw and sent her flying into the wall. Her back taking the full force of the impact.

Spitting out a pool of blood, she tried to come to her feet.

She knew that she couldn't use her sword otherwise everyone's cover would be blown. So she just kept dodging and kept getting hit for a good ten minutes.

'WHAT'S TAKING HER SO GODDAMN LONG?!' She thought.

Before the wolf could tear a hole through her abdomen three needles came flying in through a window and knocking the wolf out.

"Thank God." She shakily whispered, sinking down against the cold wall.

"Any later and I would have become dog food."

"S-sect Leader Qian." Wen Ning whispered from through the door grate.

"Wen Ning, how is Wen Qing? What's  the situation outside?" She whispered dragging her body towards the door.

"My sister's doing a-alright, s-she asked me to give y-you these." He said handing out a small package filled with herbs and a piece of paper.

"Thanks a lot." She said, putting the herbs in her sleeve pocket. She would need them later.

Both of them sucked in a breath when the heard the sound of someone coming.

Silently nodding to each other, Wen Ning took off without a moment to spare.

'What the hell? Nobody should be coming until the morning.' TaiFeng thought, quickly scrambling to take the needles out.

Putting them in her sleeve she waited, until the beast woke up.

Realizing it would look suspicious if the wolf stopped attacking now, she focused her energy and once again made her eyes go neon yellow with slits.

Hearing the wolf timidly whimper, she inwardly smirked.

"It seems you have the beast under control." A voice retorted.

Immediately recognising who the voice belonged to, she sighed a long and heavy sigh.

"Do you not have anything better to do than to hit on Sect Leaders who have absolutely no interest in you?" She said, not taking her piercing eyes off the wolf for a second.

"Always so harsh." Wen Xu chuckled.

'Why won't he just quit?'

"It seems my idiot brother has locked you in with his pet." He wryly remarked.

"Spectacular observation skills." She sarcastically muttered.

"But at least we both agree that your brother is an idiot."

"Ah, if you were my wife, you wouldn't be in this situation, you know." He sighed.

TaiFeng wanted to throw up over this mans desperate attempts to seduce her.

"Didn't anybody ever tell you tough men don't like clingy women?" She bluntly stated.

He could hear him seething with anger but she continued to maintain her staring contest with the dog. Not even glancing at him once.

Having enough, Wen Xu opened the door and walked inside the cell.

TaiFeng was a little suprised but didn't slip up and continued staring.

Putting a hand on the wall he towered over her.

'What's this supposed to be? Some pathetic atempt at kabedon?'

"Look me in the eyes." He darkly said.

"Can't." She replied, gesturing at the dog.
"I'll lose the staring contest."

Swiftly he reached down and harshly grabbed her chin to make her face him.

Before he could say anything else TaiFeng thrust her right hand forward at light and clenched Wen Xu's neck and pulled him towards her. Their faces now inches apart, her eyes still golden and terrifying.

Staring him right in the eyes, she made sure to tighten her grip so his throat would be bruised just as much as hers was, if not worse.

Although he was being practically choked to death, the look on his face was one of... arousal?

Realizing she had probably just acted out one of Wen Xu's perverted fantasies, she threw him back in disgust.

Wiping her hands on her robes, she stared at him with a burning hate.

Slowly getting up, he hoarsly chuckled, clenching his throat.

"It seems like your pretty feisty as well." He croaked out.

She could see the traces of blood staining his teeth and took great satisfaction in it.

"It's called karma. There's nothing feisty about it." She said, once again turning her attention to the wolf.

He simply laughed at that.

She knew that if he kept talking and straining his throat like this, he could permanently lose his voice. Not that she would mind, of course.

"Qian TaiFeng , oh, Qian TaiFeng . You are an interesting one." He chuckled.

"That's Sect Leader Qian to you. You piece of filth." She spat.

Wen Xu simply chuckled like a giddy madman, slowly exiting the cell.

Once the door finnaly closed and she was sure she was alone, a let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding.

Using her remaining strength, she sent a surge of spiritual energy towards the wolf, which sent it flying and knocked it out cold.

"Serves you right." She said as she slumped back down.

Taking the piece of paper from her sleeves she carefully examined the contents. Once she finished she burnt it with her spiritual energy.

Looking up at the dirty ceiling she let out a long and tired sigh.

'Looks like I won't be resting any time soon.'
