3rd person's POV

Matt woke up with a killer headache and some back pain but nevertheless he still got ready for school what he didn't know was when he rewrapped his wrist the bandage a piece was a bit loose. Let's just say that never noticed but his friends did. As he made his way to the bus stop he saw Jack.

"Hey Jack." Matt greeted as soon as he was in hearing range. "Morn- are you okay?" Jack asked "Why what's wrong?" Matt asked "Dude you have bags under your eyes." Jack pointed out. It was true Matt did have bags under his eyes. "I must've slept wrong." Matt said "Try to catch some Z's on the bus you can sleep on my shoulder if you want." Jack suggested. When the bus cam Matt and Jack say in a three seater Matt was in the window seat and Jack was aisle seat. Matt started to lean his head on the window and fell asleep. Jack saw this and proceeded to carefully guide Matt's head to his shoulder. During the ride Jack would ruffle Matt's hair and check his phone with the volume off. When the bus arrived at the school all the students got off Jack and Matt were the last ones off. They both walked in the entrance of the school with Matt a little bit behind. Nate and Mark were the first people they both saw. "Hey Jack. Hey Matt." Mark and Nate greeted. "Hey guys." Jack greeted. "Hey Nate, Mark." Matt greeted as he went to Nate, placed his head against Nate's chest and hugged him. Nate hugged back "Hey babe you okay?" He asked. "Just tired and a little dizzy." Matt's muffled voice answered. Shane and the others came a few minutes later. "Hey." They greeted "Hey." Mark, Jack, and Nate greeted Matt just waved his hand at them. "Is Matt okay?" Steph asked. "I think so." Nate answered "Matt said he must've slept wrong last night." Jack said remembering the conversation they had at the bus stop.  After the friends went to an empty classroom on the first floor to chat until class started. Matt was still hugging Nate while they both sat on top of a side table but Matt started to close his eyes and fall asleep while his bandages started to drip blood. Felix was the first one to notice.

"Is it me or is that color part of the design of Matt's jacket?" He asked Nate looked at where Matt's arms were wrapped around him, then he noticed the blood. "Matt?" Nate shook Matt but he didn't wake up. Nate then removed Matt's arms and got down from while hold Matt steady he then positioned Matt so he was laying on the table his arm with the bandage fell while it still dripped with blood. Jack then walked over with Mark and lifted the sleeve of Matt's jacket, Mark peeled the bandage and what they all saw, well let's just say it scared them. Matt's wrist was covered in scars most healed, some were healing but one of them was deep and was dripping blood. Riley was the first to speak up "Does he have a pulse?" She asked Shane went to check a pulse on his left wrist "I got one but it's faint and rapid." Shane responded "Mark can you get me a couple of books from the shelf?" She asked Mark then walked over to a book shelf and grabbed a couple of book walked back to Matt and gave them to Shane who then placed them under Matt's feet. "Okay why did you do that?" Mark asked "Face is pale raise the tail of it red raise the head." Shane replied "Oh god someone call 911 please." Nate started crying his eyes out. Stephanie took him to the other side of the room. Jack pulled out his phone and dialed the police.

"911 what's your emergency?" The operator asked

"Hi yes my friends is here lying on a table with blood falling from a cut in his right wrist, he's out cold, and his pulse is faint but it's going fast." Jack answered

"Okay how's his breathing?" The operator asked. "Guys how's his breathing?" He asked the others "Shallow but rapid." Shane replied. "Shallow but rapid." Jack repeats to the operator. "Okay sir what is your location?" "Diamond Bar High School." "Okay sir an ambulance has been sent to your location ETA is 3 minutes." The operator said "Thank you." Jack said hanging up. "We still need to stop the bleeding." Felix said "Quick do you guys still have those first aid kits?" Shane asked "Yeah." Mark replied as he pulled his out Shane snatched it away and opened it pulling out a trauma pad. "Quick someone get a roll of bandage wrap." Riley threw a roll at Shane as he applied pressure to the wound and wrapped it. A groan of pain could be heard from Matt. "It's okay buddy we're here. Helps on the way." Riley said petting his hair. "Someone should go flag down the EMTs and bring them here." She suggested. "Nate and I will do it." Stephanie said as she and Nate walked out the room. A few minutes later the the EMTs busted in the classroom, with Stephanie and Nate tailing behind, scaring the others in the room.

"Where is he?" One the EMTs asked. "Over here." Mark said waving his hand over. The EMTs rushed over to Matt with a stretcher.

"Who ever wrapped the wound and elevated the legs did the good job." Another EMT praised as he checked Matt's heartbeat. "BPM's dropping and fast. We gotta get this kid to the hospital stat. Mike help me out." The EMT said as Mike, the first EMT came and both of them placed Matt on the stretcher and strapped him in.

"Carla get the mask." Mike said. Carla placed a breathing mask over Matt's face. "Will h-he be alr-alright?" Nate asked still teary eyed.

"With the way you guys wrapped the wound and elevated the legs he'll be fine." Carla responded as they wheeled Matt out the room and down the hall yelling at the other students to get out of the way.

Nate's POV
They wheeled Matt out the room. The rest of us followed behind. I had to hold onto Stephanie so I wouldn't collapse on the floor and cry out. I had my eyes glued to the ground. I could feel everyone starring at me I started to tighten my grip on Steph's shoulder. We walked out there was an ambulance and a fire truck where the EMTs met the others. I couldn't or didn't listen to what they said. They loaded Matt in the ambulance. One of the EMTs looked at me Carla I think her name was. "Hey kid wanna ride with us?" She asked "Please." I answered "Mike drive, Jason take shotgun I'll be in the back with the teens." Carla told the other two. "Got it." Jason the second EMT responded. I looked at my other friends. "Don't worry we'll find another way to the hospital Matt needs you more then us." Felix said I nodded at him tears still rolling down my face. I went in the ambulance with Matt and Carla the last thing I saw before the doors closed was Shane talking to someone on the phone. The sirens turned on and we were on route to the hospital. I grabbed Matt's hand. "Best friend?" Carla asked "Boyfriend" I corrected as more tears came. "You know my daughter has a girlfriend." Carla said wrapping her arm around my shoulders. "She was crying like you were when her girlfriend got in a car accident." I looked up at her I could tell my eyes were red. She then pulled into a hug and let me cry on her. I never let Matt's hand go until he was rushed to the ER where they told me to wait in the waiting but before they sent me there they gave me a box of tissues. I thanked them and waited in the waiting room.

Mark's POV
(Back at school when the ambulance and the fire truck just left.)

The ambulance just left. I looked over at Shane. She started to dial someone. "Who you calling?" Jack asked "Someone that owes me a favor." She answered. "Hi there can I speak with a Lieutenant Dodds?......Dodds hey buddy I'm calling in a favor." Her voice was playful at first but then it got serious when she started to talk to 'Dodds' "Dodds my friends and I need a ride,...how the fuck are we gonna do drugs we need to go to Good Samaritan Hospital!" wait a sec DRUGS?!?!?! "You already know where I go to school you and my brother are best friends." She sighs "I'll see you in 2 minutes." Shane hanged up. "I got a ride that coming." She told the others. "Why do you have a lieutenant's phone number." I asked looking at her crazy. "I told you guys my brother's a cop what I didn't tell you was his best friend was one as well." She explained. There was a carb horn we all looked at a black Toyota Highlander the driver window rolled down.

"Get in losers we're going to the hospital." The driver said "Hey Dodds." Shane greeted "You owe my ass after this." Dodds said "Yeah don't get me started on what happened that one time." Shane retorted. Dodds was 5'9, mixed race, instead of a uniform he wore a civilian clothes like what you and me wear a basic grey t-shirt and blue jeans. We all climbed in the car and left for the hospital. When we arrived we ran to the receptionist. Apparently none us us knew Dodds was following us.

"May I help you?" She asked "Hi can we visit a Matthew Patrick?" Stephanie asked "Let's see Matthew Patrick. Ah here he is room 1987." The receptionist then gave each of us a blue visitation sticker. "Go down the hall behind me, then take a left, there should be an elevator take it to the 3rd floor, then go down the 1900's hallway." She tells us. We all thanked her and went on our way. I saw Jack looking at the gift shop. "You wanna Hey something for Matt?" I asked he nodded his head. I looked at the others to see them looking at me and Jack. "I have extra cash." Riley pipped up. We went into the gift shop and bought a yellow Peeps bunny plush. Steph named it Peepachu. We also got Nate a snack just in case. We got to the room in 5 minutes. Felix knocked on the door we heard Nate's voice call out "Who is it?" "It's us." Riley answer. "Come on in." Nate told us. Shane opened the door. We walked we saw Nate sitting on a chair his hand holding onto Matt's. We all walked in I sat next to Jack who sat next to Nate, Shane and Riley stood by the door talking with Dodds, Felix and Stephanie sat on the other side of the bed. Matt was pale with a mask over his mouth and noise. "He looks so small." Jack was the first to speak up. "He's been like this ever since he came out of the ER." Nate told us. "We got you a snack from the coffee shop." Felix said as he handed Nate a candy bar. "Thanks." He replied "They said that they're going to keep him overnight for observation saying that he lost a lot of blood. They barely had enough using the last bag of blood that was his type." Nate added "What's his blood type?" Stephanie asked "They said it was A positive." Nate answered "We also bought Matt a plushie for when he wakes up." Jack said lifting the plushie in his arms. Jack started to tear up I placed my arm around him "Why did he do it again?" He sobbed "Again?" Nate questioned Shane, Riley, and Dodds look at us now. "Matt's suicidal. He tried to overdoes back in middle school. We didn't tell you because we thought he stopped. We're so sorry we didn't think he would do this I understand if your mad and hate us." I explained I expected Nate to be mad at me, Jack, Felix and Stephanie instead "I wish you all told me sooner. I already lost one person to suicide I don't wanna lose another." He calmly said "In a way it's kinda my fault as well. I had a childhood friend Morgan, she was my bestest friend we would do everything together. Talk about boys, cook food, eat ice cream at the mall, go shopping together. I didn't notice the signs. She wore longer sleeves, tired all the time, always saying sorry for something she didn't do. It wasn't till the summer of 8th grade when she tried to kill herself. She was put on life support only for her family to pull the plug a week later." Nate started to cry again. I walked over and pulled him into a hug. "I asked god or who ever's up there for a second chance and I fucked up again." He sobbed I patted his back in a soothing motion "It's going to be okay. Matt's gonna pull through." I told him. "How do you know that?!?" He yelled pulling away and standing up.

"Because Matt found you." Stephanie spoke up. Nate looked at her "What?" He asked "You heard me Matt found you all his life he just wanted to find someone to love and now that he found you he's felt something he never felt before. Love." Steph explained. "It's true." Shane spoke up "Ever since Matt saw you he was always happier." Riley said "Then why did he tried to kill himself?" Nate asked "He probably didn't think you loved him back. That he was nothing but a burden to you." Felix voiced Nate looked at Matt more tears started to fall. "You never were nor will be a burden to me Matt." Nate said. He started to lean his head so their foreheads were touching tears started to fall on Matt's face.

Nate's POV

"I will always love you even when it seems that I don't." I barely whisper with my eyes shut. I just wanted him to wake up, to open his eyes and say 'Hi' or just wake up from this nightmare and pretend nothing happened. Go to school like normal, hang out with Matt after school at my house, cuddle with him at night, whispering 'I love you's in the middle of the night when he has nightmare. "Please open your eyes." I begged. I opened my eyes and pulled away. I checked my phone it was 2:00pm. There was a groan everyone looked at Matt's bed. He eyes were scrunched like he was waking up I started to cry as he opened his eyes.

Matt's POV
Darkness. That's all I saw. I heard voices, people talking.

"Everything's gonna be okay." Mark

"Because Matt found you." Stephanie

"It's true." Shane

"Please open your eyes" Nate

"You're my bestest friend." Jack

"He's stronger then this." Felix

"He's been happier." Riley.

I felt my eyes scrunch up. I started to open my eyes only to be blinded the light and forced to close them again. "Matt?" I looked over to see Nate's tear stained face. I tried to talk but only coughs came out. "Don't try to talk." Jack said "Just rest." Mark added. They're mad at me I know it. I started to tear up Nate saw "Hey, hey baby don't cry, don't cry. I'm here, I'm here." He said wiping my tears away. "I'm sorry." My voice was hoarse "Don't apologize." Nate responded. A nurse walked in.

"Oh I see your awake. I just came to tell you all that visiting hours are over but I talked with the doctors and they said that one of you can stay the night with the patient." He said "Nurse may I have a word with you outside." I looked over to whoever spoked. It was a cop. They both walked outside. "He's a friend." Shane commented. "Nate you should stay the night with Matt." Riley stated "Thanks guys." Nate thanked. Shane left first followed by the rest of them. Jack was the last one to walk out but before he did he left a plushie. "We bought it for you. I hope you like it." He said then he walked out leaving me and Nate in silence. "Matt," I looked over to him. "I just want you to know that you will never be a burden to me. When I first saw you I thought 'There's no way a cutie like you would every love someone like me' but here we are dating." Nate grabbed my hand and looked at my in they eyes. "I will love you now and forever till death do us part." He said more tears started to fall he wiped them away. "We'll get through this together." I nodded my head agreeing. He kissed my forehead "Get some rest I'll be here when you wake up." I nodded again as I started to drift off the last thing I heard was Nate whispering. "I promise." He said. I welcomed darkness again but I had hope with me.
